Megan, you might want to consider putting small shelves on the back wall of your pantry spanning each of the side shelves. It would give you a little more area in which to store food. It wouldn't take away your access to what's on the existing shelves and it wouldn't be that difficult to accomplish. I think you have a lot to be proud of for turning your life around and becoming the responsible, loving, productive woman you are now. Keep up the good work. You're doing great!
My mom did breakfast for dinner frequently. She told us it was a treat to have breakfast for dinner. Then as we aged, we realized it was because she could stretch the food much easier and farther. I've experienced different difficulties in my life and cannot begin to understand what you went through. However, I just wanted to comment on the fact that you invited other people to feel disgust for the fact that you had some food waste. You are human and you are raising little humans. Basically, ditto to what everyone else has said. I just feel sick when I clean out my fridge sometimes, and think of the wasted money I spent on the food in the trash. Everyone experiences this. I did not know about your struggles when you were a young adult. I’ve always loved your title, and I thought there might have been a time when you didn’t love your life. I love your videos and have gotten great ideas from you. Your brutal honesty was remarkable, I’ve never seen anyone on RUclips own a ‘mistake’ as you did. I so admire you!

It’s so easy, to overlook expired food, I believe it’s happened to all of us at one time or another. Don’t be so hard on yourself. But I can understand why you feel like you do. I think we should all have more gratitude for having a place to live and food to eat. It’s so easy to take it all for granted
A few things I’ve been doing that I find saves on wasting food is 1)shop online & not walk around the supermarket! I only get what I need! 2)meal plan & check my inventory for what is needed for the meals I plan on making. 3) go thru my freezer for meats for dinner ideas for my weekly meal plan so I use up what I already have:) Thanks Megan for being so raw & honest about ur struggles. I think it’s important for many to hear that perspective bc it’s foreign to them. 🙏🏻😂
I think I might try some target pickup orders this month & see if that helps! Unfortunately, Aldi doesn’t offer that & that’s the store we shop at for the bulk of our groceries

What about using under the shelf baskets for extra storage? I store my bread loaves, bagels, and sub rolls in there. It’s the perfect size for that plus it never gets squashed 😆 It would also free up shelf space 👍🏼

You did an awesome job. Mine is small like yours and i have gone to the long clear bins. Even in my frig so I can access what's on the top shelf. Mine is still a work in progress. Sharing your life experience was very touching. You are a sweet soul.
If you ever get your diy itch for renovation: Looking at how the shelves are in there- from what’s shown it looks like you might be able to take one walls off, maybe trim the length, then put on the back wall so it creates a long L shape with the other side. Then you might be able to walk in with more space and even use the opposite wall for wall hanging of aprons etc.

I just watched fit frugal mom do an entire video about cooking and using expired foods, and it was so good and so like me cooking/using stuff even out of date (not dairy or meats improperly stored of course)
I totally understand not wanting to waste any food we struggled alot when we were first married we had a baby right off the bat so I learned to feed us with between 50 and 80 dollars every 2 weeks so I try to be very careful with my pantry stock but things do slip through have a blessed weekend sweet lady ❤🤟

Just look at how far you have come. Hard work really pays off. I have been making more of an effort to go through my cupboards before making a shopping list and making sure everything is organized. Oh girl! I remember the days of bologna and cheese sandwiches. Going back to last week video. I was talking about my closet and how my husband has over taken the situation. Well…I’m still working in the closet,putting in a few more shelves and a shoe rack, but I had to share with you how many clothes hangers that got relieved from duty 73!!!lol Pantry looks good. Hopefully this will work out for you and the fam. My next thing to get straightened out are going to be my countertop appliances. What an improvement, I have a can organizer too and I love it and it's been the best solution so I'm sure you will love yours too!! We have silimar styles, and I think it turned out fantastic!! Good trouble shooting !!
Hey Megan! It turned out great! I’m watching while I have covid and it’s the second time I got it last time I got it was in 2021 of May and now second time. I’m almost done quarantining Sunday is my last day but today I deeper clean my room get all fresh air in my small bedroom as possible only have 1 window I remember you guys had limited windows too in your room so you can relate. Thanks for the motivation I almost wasn’t going too clean but I’m like nope get your bitt off your bed you’re capable of cleaning put Megan on your phone and clean with her and that’s what I did & I get to go back to work Monday so I want my bedroom all clean and when I come home from work on Monday it’s in Alan fresh slate and I can move on and get better. Want you to know that my family growing up was poor also, so I know that feeling of how you had anxiety of throwing out food I try and not waste any myself but we can only better ourselves and that wooden lazy Susan looks cool I’ve never seen one either. I hope this system functions for your guys pantry you did a great job for your family! 💜😊

This video was great! I have a coat closet that I’m turning into a pantry because my house didn’t come with one. So it’s kind of awkward like yours. Did you put the shelving in yourself? If so, where did you get the shelving? Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Looks great! I have also had to do several pantry organizations...still don't have everything right. I am interested to know if you really do end up liking that can organizer. I had one and it just didn't work for us.
I think that moving one side of shelves to the back creating an L shape would give you more space, you can then add a wall mounted can holder which has a very slim profile.
The Walmart brand storage containers do work, they aren't made for grabbing by the lid top bc they will pop off and make a mess. If you would have had them in the front instead of having to grab over things you wouldn't have had a mess. Please give them a chance again in a different location possibly. I am truly not trying to critize you, I have those containers in my home and I love them and they work great....And just to let you know that when I was in a hurry I have grabbed them too quickly and the top did come off and I had macaroni all over the floor.....But that was my mistake for grabbing too close to the top. Loving you video and wishing you the best, it's looking great. From the sounds of your story you have turned things around for yourself, keep up the great work.
How is this system working now? Have you changed anything out? Particularly interested in the jars with the black lids as far as keeping the food fresh?
Where did you get the stackable clear storage containers that you emptied but I don't think refilled and used? I think there were Pringles in one of them.
Some processed foods that you do not get through are ok. I dislike having meat or produce I have to toss. I try to freeze stuff so it does not sit in fridge then get tossed. I’m only one person so it’s hard to figure out. I give food away . Either what I make or if I have more than I need. Be kind to you! ❤❤❤❤hugs
I'm so sorry you had you go thru that. No judgement I grew up with very little food certain times of the month but my mom tried she became very frugal and creative eating from the pantry until the next month when we'd get government food supplies the next month. Those staples were very important

We had some & I didn’t like them. They got super messy & didn’t offer much storage space for us 😊

I grew up in a really poor family, I worked really hard so my family is well fed. However, I feel so satisfied when we go through all our food.

We have a pretty tight food budget too. It helps us to actually eat through our food when we don’t over spend/shop at the grocery store

Going back to last week video. I was talking about my closet and how my husband has over taken the situation.
Well…I’m still working in the closet,putting in a few more shelves and a shoe rack, but I had to share with you how many clothes hangers that got relieved from duty 73!!!lol
Pantry looks good. Hopefully this will work out for you and the fam. My next thing to get straightened out are going to be my countertop appliances. I have more appliances the countertop space.😂

What an improvement, I have a can organizer too and I love it and it's been the best solution so I'm sure you will love yours too!! We have silimar styles, and I think it turned out fantastic!! Good trouble shooting !!

Hey Megan! It turned out great! I’m watching while I have covid and it’s the second time I got it last time I got it was in 2021 of May and now second time. I’m almost done quarantining Sunday is my last day but today I deeper clean my room get all fresh air in my small bedroom as possible only have 1 window I remember you guys had limited windows too in your room so you can relate. Thanks for the motivation I almost wasn’t going too clean but I’m like nope get your bitt off your bed you’re capable of cleaning put Megan on your phone and clean with her and that’s what I did & I get to go back to work Monday so I want my bedroom all clean and when I come home from work on Monday it’s in Alan fresh slate and I can move on and get better. Want you to know that my family growing up was poor also, so I know that feeling of how you had anxiety of throwing out food I try and not waste any myself but we can only better ourselves and that wooden lazy Susan looks cool I’ve never seen one either. I hope this system functions for your guys pantry you did a great job for your family! 💜😊

The previous home owners put the pantry shelves in, but I do plan to redo it in the spring/summer

Looks great! I have also had to do several pantry organizations...still don't have everything right. I am interested to know if you really do end up liking that can organizer. I had one and it just didn't work for us.
I’m loving it so far! We don’t keep an excess of canned goods, so this one has been perfect for us!

I don’t think this was supposed to be a pantry, but the previous owners converted it into one.
I think that moving one side of shelves to the back creating an L shape would give you more space, you can then add a wall mounted can holder which has a very slim profile.
That is not in our plans
The Walmart brand storage containers do work, they aren't made for grabbing by the lid top bc they will pop off and make a mess. If you would have had them in the front instead of having to grab over things you wouldn't have had a mess. Please give them a chance again in a different location possibly. I am truly not trying to critize you, I have those containers in my home and I love them and they work great....And just to let you know that when I was in a hurry I have grabbed them too quickly and the top did come off and I had macaroni all over the floor.....But that was my mistake for grabbing too close to the top. Loving you video and wishing you the best, it's looking great. From the sounds of your story you have turned things around for yourself, keep up the great work.

Yes, we’ve got some plans for this pantry…just not ready to do it yet.
Some processed foods that you do not get through are ok. I dislike having meat or produce I have to toss. I try to freeze stuff so it does not sit in fridge then get tossed. I’m only one person so it’s hard to figure out. I give food away . Either what I make or if I have more than I need. Be kind to you! ❤❤❤❤hugs
I wish we had space for a second freezer. That would definitely save a lot of produce
I'm so sorry you had you go thru that. No judgement I grew up with very little food certain times of the month but my mom tried she became very frugal and creative eating from the pantry until the next month when we'd get government food supplies the next month. Those staples were very important
We do that sometimes just to try to get as much out of our pantry as possible, nothing wrong with being frugal ❤️
