The Warning concerts have basically become multi-thousand person sing-alongs. Just watch any recent fan shot video. And not just a few songs, EVERY song in setlist, regardless of language.

@@brucekaraki1832 Nah, there are moments where the band intentionally stops singing so the crowd can sing a line, like in Money, and it sounds like no one knows the song. It's a matter of raising the crowd noise in the mix at the right times.
It's a glaring mistake in the mix of this otherwise perfect concert. It's not the band's fault, it's the crew that engineered the final mix.

One of my favourites. Written by Pau after a friend had tried to convince her to blow off her commitments to the band to instead hang out, because "you guys aren't going to make it anyway". A pissed off Pau is something special indeed.
The last time that an angry Pau picked up her pen the results were even more spectacular. Their critics had been accusing the girls of being cultural traitors because they only wrote their lyrics in English. A then 17 year old Pau wrote the band's first song in Spanish in response, in defense of herself and her sisters. Rather than wait to include the song on their next album, they recorded it immediately and released it as a standalone single.
They debuted the song in their hometown and recorded the show. Pau delivers a stunning performance, singing with conviction, with her lyrics projected on a screen behind her to make sure that her message to those critics was clear. Pau is fearless, and the song and performance are a highwater mark for the band for me.
That performance is one their channel, called Narcissista - Live at Foro Didi in Monterrey.

Dany works hard to get the emotion correct that Pau was experiencing when she wrote this song... it is about a childhood friendship breaking up...
basically the story is that someone said something like, "come hang out with us. that band thing won't amount to anything. why are you wasting your time?" well, you can imagine how that went over... TWA like to joke that the moral of the story is "Don't upset Pau or you may be memorialized in a song" 😹

Since this video they toured a second time with Halestorm then did a tour through Canada with Three Days Grace, actually invited Dany to join them on stage and sing a TDG song with them, then Colombia and Peru. They started off this year doing 4 shows with Muse before doing a leg through the US again then joining Muse in the UK and France. While in Europe they also did shows in Germany, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Spain. Just finishing up a leg through Mexico after doing two songs at the MTV Video Music Awards where they made quite a splash on some of the best dressed lists and a short tour through South America. In the middle of all of that they managed to record their as yet unreleased 4th studio album.

    • @BrentTharp
      @BrentTharp 10 месяцев назад +1

@@PaleHorseShabuShabu SO MUCH PRACTICE. I mean, it's not just tone and negotiating the physical dexterity. It's coming in on offbeats and other kinds of timing. It certainly helps when your drummer keeps impeccable time, but I think the main thing is that they are completely dialed in WITH EACH OTHER. I saw an interview where they talked about when they first played as a band. A producer or manager told them they still had to learn how to go from being three people playing their instruments separately on stage to becoming a cohesive, organic unit. I see that now when they make eye contact on a change or when something could be going sideways, and I can hear it when they adjust to each other's playing without it being obvious. Despite Pau's ferocity on the drums, several times I've caught her laying back on bringing Dany back in when the timing slides a little. I've never seen a pro drummer truly panic when a player is off, but I've seen many be too aggressive in bringing them back in. And that's likely because they know they can't be trusted to do so. I don't think Pau has any concern that Dany won't come back in, so she just stays on the kit and waits. That takes a LOT of trust. I think that's part of the sister power. Okay, I'm stopping. I have no idea why I just wrote a book in response to your reply. Your one word obviously triggered me. But I guess "practice" also leads to trust.

Paulina wrote this song in response to a friend who betrayed their friendship. When Paulina left a gathering because she had to rehearse with her sisters, the friend said, "Why? They aren't going anywhere." That didn't sit well, and this is the outcome. Dany has said the difficult thing for her was figuring out how express Paulina's meaning in the song.
I have to disagree with you on the point of their confidence. None of them have ever lacked confidence in playing or performing. They played classical piano recitals when they were 5 and 6 years old. They opened for Def Leppard in Mexico City when they were 12, 15, 17 and were invited by the band to open for them in Guadalajara.
Their stage performance has improved as they practiced moving around with their instruments, but that doesn't mean they lacked confidence when they were younger. They have said they had to practice hard at getting used to moving around with their movements. A better word to use would be comfortable instead of confidence with their stage presence.

I imagine it takes a while for you to believe what people are telling you. At first, a young band is in awe of the headline acts, but with experience and time they begin to realize that yes we do belong here. Yes, we are as good as the headliner.
It has been the thrill of a lifetime watching these girls become the musicians and women you see in this video.

Awesome analysis. My only thought is that i believe they are mostly influenced by male rock stars, in about the same ratio that there are mostly male rock stars throughout history. They have their female idols, but most are male, and that might also be part of the happy accident that fits with their own vocal ranges. So much magic that just worked out right!

Very true Don! Its funny that I actually like TW's early covers of songs like Pretender by the Foo Fighters or Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crew or...dare I say...Atlas Rise by Metallica. There is a quality to Dany's voice and Pau and Ale's backing vocals that I just find both pleasing but also strangely classic in sound. Also amazing that with HYCAD...when Dany belts in her upper register I get chills and my first thought was Ann Wilson. They're just getting started.

The thing about The Warning, they have opened for bands (Deff Leppard, Killers, Stryper, Moderatto, Eruca Sativa - both in México and Argentina - and recently Foo Fighters, Guns&Roses, Muse) and getting to festivals in Mexico, California and Texas since 2015/2016 where apart of receiving negative comments for being female rockers, they also have to figth to be taken seriusly being so young at the time (Dany 16, Paulina 14 and Alejandra 11). So they always have great energy in stage: " it doesn't matter if there is 10 people in the venue or 10,000 you give it all".
Fortunely, since early in their carrers most of the times there are somebody of the TWA in the venues getting some emotion back from the audience

This performance is from August 2022. I saw The Warning open for Halestorm a couple weeks before this. I can tell you that The Warning TOOK the stage and made it their own for the 30 minutes they had. I was in the pit on the rail, and a huge number of people around me said "Who they hell are these gals? They are awesome. I need to check out more". I then took the opportunity to talk with a couple dozen of them.
These women have taken a lot from many historic rock acts (Floyd, Foo, Queen, Muse, Billy Joel, Elton, many others) and forged a sound of their own that simultaneously calls back to the past and points to where rock is going. I think they are leaders in a new generation of rock sound. For me, if the future of rock sounds like this, then I am all in. They are indeed very true to themselves. For those of us who grew up on album rock, they are a refreshing breath of fresh air.
Yeah, being a three piece can be cleaner, but the flip side is there is no where to hide. The fact that they are also sisters and have that innate near telepathy also works in their favor on stage for sure.
Two weeks ago I was at their shows in Monterrey and Mexico City. The amount of crowd noise, singing (and crying) along with The Warning, was as loud as I have heard in any group in any venue. Made both Dany and Pau cry at different points. As with their instruments, they don't try to do anything vocally that isn't them. They all have alto voices. I really enjoy that they lean into what they have and do it well.

I have a decent voice. I can sing every song TW does without straining my voice. That is another draw for fans. Many of us can sing. They compose melodies WE can sing. 60s and 70s songs were sung mainly by male tenors. I could not sing along with the music. It was higher than my range. I saw them at Gilford, NH in July a little less than a month before Teatro CDMX. I had a similar experience with the crowd in that they had no idea who The Warning was. They were there for Pretty Reckless and Halestorm. During the breakdown of equipment between TW and PR I went out to the smoking area and became the center of attraction because everyone was asking questions about TW and I had most of the answers. PR was into their second song before we went bach to the concert pavilion. Everywhere they go, they convert fans. Everywhere.

These young women started their band as little kids, and music is almost all they've done since. They are wise beyond their years. Paulina writes most of their lyrics, but the band collaborates on the entirety of their works. They do this as a labor of love and passion. As someone said here earlier, DON'T PISS OFF PAU, or she'll write a song about you! She and Taylor Swift could probably find a lot to talk about, despite their musical genres being different. Listen to "23" and "Revenant" from this same concert. Pau sings both, mostly solo. Pure Pauer.

Just Dany alone on the stage with her guitar singing “When I’m Alone” and then Pau on stage with a piano, but also a string section, singing “Black Holes” followed by “Breathe.” The crowd reactions are so supportive and singing along that the performers have to stop performing and cry a little and acknowledge the fans. Since Pau sings lead on a few of the songs she has also developed, more or less, the same confidence and stage presence as Dany. From this same concert the 3 songs Pau sings lead on to react to are Dust to Dust, Narcisista and REVENANT. It is also very apparent in some of the more recent fan videos with Pau and a Grand Piano being alone on the stage singing Black Holes and Breathe (they are fan vids so lower quality with not great audio).

If you're following the trajectory then the MTV awards show of Evolve shows where their stagecraft has got to. Or you can go back following the Foo Fighters thought to their amazing early cover of the Pretender when Ale was only 11 or so.

A little info about the girls…
They are 3 sisters from Monterrey, Mexico.
They fell in love with rock music when their parents bought them the video game “Rock-band”. That’s how everything started 10 years ago.
    - 👩🏼 Daniela (Dany) Guitar and lead vocals.
    She is 23 years old.
    She is sponsored by PRS.
    She loves donuts 🍩.
She is a sweetheart, very loving girl and disciplined, she has the best voice for rock music in the industry today. Only Lzzy Hale can compete with Dany.
On tour she always has to have fresh fruit. 🍉 🍌 🍎 🍊
    - 🧑🏻‍🦰 Paulina (Pau) Drums and vocals.
    She is 21 years old.
    She is sponsored by Sabian.
    She collects Anime and Vinyls.
She writes almost all the lyrics for the band.
She is a genius firecracker 🧨
She is an amazing drummer and she can sing while she plays, very difficult thing to do.
She has a tremendous voice that transmits a lot of emotion.
She is the lead singer in many of their songs.
She is going to make you cry when she sings the song “black holes”. Prepare the tissues 😢.
    - 👧🏻 Alejandra (Ale) Bass and Vocals.
    She is sponsored by Spector.
This girl is the youngest (18) but she is the tallest.
Ale is a tremendous bass player, she is a clean, clear and consistent player.
She sings well but she doesn’t like to sing.
    She prefers the backing vocals.
    She loves Takis chips (fire).
NEVER put pineapple in her pizza 🍕, she will get mad 😠.
She is very reserved, but very smart!.
When things are going out of control in the band, she is the voice of reason.
She has super strength powers, she can break an apple with her little bare hands 💪🏻 🍏.

Yeah I mentioned that in the reaction but I cut it out because the intro was way too long. It’s a tragic situation made more so because that tour would have been astronomically powerful for The Warning.
They’ll still get to where they’re going. It just may take a little longer.

TW's secret sauce heavily depends on songwriting. You'll notice that this song, for example, does not follow a simple standard format to start with (half tempo chorus, for example). And then "Mayday! Mayday! This ship is going down"...Where the eff did that come from. Totally unexpected and surprising the first time you hear it.

Before you hit play, I looked at your previous The Warning reactions, and I didn't see any reactions to a live performance. I'm just curious how can you gauge their comfortablitiy and stage presence in this clip, compared to a time before this, without having seen them live before? Unless of course you have seen them live off camera. Just curious. I recommend a watch of their 2023 MTV VMA live performances. If you want to see their current stage presence, man, they blew the roof off of MTV like it was just another day at the office, especially with Evolve!

So about a year ago I did this..
      ruclips.net/video/70F9R_sQ4Ns/видео.htmlsi=1GxNX29Dpuqn7AMJ
I had to really look for it on RUclips. Oddly it didn’t come up when I typed in “PrymalChaos The warning” I had to specifically type in Money as well.
Really with that observation I was strictly going off memory from that reaction. And looking back at it now, It is an incredibly subtle shift. I think I probably only recognised it because I know what it feels like. The older performance is still extremely confident and powerful. I think it’s just a shift in attitude from “we want you to see that we deserve to be here” to “we deserve to be here!!”
The Warning really are a force of nature. Both now and then.

I’ve done Choke, Disciple, evolve, Money - Live, and now Animosity. Sometimes the search on RUclips is a little sketchy.
Money is the performance I’m probably referring to but I feel like I’ve have watched a few other live clips here and there off camera. 😊

@@PrymalChaos My bad, but still same era, same EP (Mayday) and album (Error) over all. I highly recommend taking this rabbit trail down to their early days if you REALLY want to see some progression, as well as see how awesome they always have been. Also, check out their VMA performances from this year. Did I already mention they blew MTV's roof off like another day at the office? It's the holidays and I'm broke so I can't buy a request, but you should treat yourself to some AWESOMENESS! haha!

The first time I saw the warning live was when they opened for Halestorm and The Pretty Reckless. At the end of the night walking out of the stadium, all the buzz in the crowd was about The Warning. The crowd that came for Halestorm left wanting more of The Warning.

You might appreciate this: at the livestream when The Warning released ERROR (their latest album of course), near the end Ale looked directly at the camera and said "Be sure and listen to *all the songs*, and *in order*." And I was like, YES. They are so modern but are such a throwback, too. Albums matter! And oh man, the fans singing - you got to catch them in person some time, even the best live recordings don't quite get it. Oh and, just for reference, the lyrics here are from Pau - she starts many if not most of their songs (I know, right?!?!). I love your analyses. Do more, if you like! THANKS!

Pidgeon-holeing this set of women on a specific sample is not to do them justice, nor to recognize their real creativity. ( I am not saying that is what you do. In fact I think you are one of the people that recognize , at least, the insane potential). Rock, Prog rock, metal, punk and almost classic laments are amongst what we have. What is to come , I hope , will shift us to new musical places. That's what I feel anyway. And I am up for the ride. Remember these women did a great concept album when they were in their early teens, which, as a whole, pretty much defies "genre-fying". Maybe musical theatre ( that will ruffle a few)

The Warning have been able to grow organically. Yes, they have had spurts of growth after opening for Foo Fighters and Muse, but for the most part is has been steady growth. The fans they have gained from that work seems to be sticking around and looking forward to their next album. That don't seem to have many fair weather fan.
