1988 PORSCHE 924S SE | Rare car awakes - First Start in Years!

- I bought this Porsche over a year ago that had been sitting for some years. This is a very rare car as 980 were produced and only 500 made it here to the States. I found the org rear seats in the rafters of the barn...yes barn find seats :). Let's try a first start on the old car and see if it will run. I will continue to work on the 924s special edition revival this week and bring you back for its first drive.

'Marty' how long have you been working on cars? 😊 Negative earth cars you remove the negative first then the Positive. New battery in and connect the Positive first then the Negative. It is easy to forget to put fuel in (you can get distracted) so we forgive you for that. Anyway she runs even though she is a little rough but I think if you had been sleeping for as long as this car you would also sound rough! I don't think it is knocking though so that is a bonus. i just recently got my mini dead blow hammer set so not very long :). thank you for the refresher :). It sounded worse on film but i'll get the fuel line fixed and change the oil next week....thank you SR7764

Change the OIL ad some detergent additive to free up the lifters. Timing belt? Drive it a bit then off to the races.

Mike beat me to it !. The valve lifters very tappy…….sounds like a very small misfire too ?. Some cleaning oil through it a couple of times might quieten it down a bit..

I am bring back a 1987 924s My fuel pump was actually still working BUT the fuel lines that are on top of the engine were leaking like a lawn sprinkler... Look really close at yours, or just replace them so they don't cause a bigger problem later... That clacking engine is just the lifters. Put in a good dose of ATF in the engine oil it will go away as soon as the engine warms up... Great video thanks :)
924's are awesome, would love a 2 tone white over red turbo with pinstripe sports seat interior as per the Carrera GT..

Well, you got to hear it run … and it sounded terrible. Sounded about like some the neighborhood kids stopped by every afternoon to drop a few pebbles into the oil filler during the summer of 2014! You could say that engine sound really rocks!

I had an 87 924S very similar to yours. Cool little cars but make sure you change the timing belt, they are interference engines so no bueno when they break.

actually in germany it was called the "housewife porsche". had one 20 years ago for a while. the motor was from audi, i dont recall if it had a porsche logo on the motor like yours.
This has the 944 engine , not the early 924 Audi engine

The issue is rare does not mean valuable these cars a good for the money but there worth even less than the pre s2 944's and turbos
there is no " issue " , it's a rare car and that is cool , period. Clearly i don't do what i do for money as i legit have 2 dollars in my wallet right now lol.
@@5150mxVW well that's 1 dollar more than me and that's good but alot of people don't bother fixing stuff like this especially when it's cheap and parts are not why 99% of the 944's I see are future parts cars sitting under a tree for 25 years

Orileys batteries SUCK LARGE. Wal-mart are far far better believe or not.
Had 2 of their batteries on my dodge 2500 Cummins they lasted 8 years, ON A DIESEL.
