It wasnt just midfield that was a problem. Very poor defending for all three goals. We really miss Mings/Konsa/Pau. And that must affect the whole team

Terrific show Pete, so balanced, realistic and upbeat, thank you so much. The ex-player in the commentary box who used to play for Arsenal , can't bring myself to say his name, was mega-irritating all through the game but when he described the incident leading to the third goal as 'not much of a foul but who cares' (something like that) then I felt there was real biase against us. Anyway we move on, better to lose in the FA Cup than the Prem so a win on Sunday will do very nicely, everything crossed. Love AVFC so much. Keep up the good work Pete. UTMV !!!

Great show and analysis again. All those misplaced (and/or misreceived) passes (and subsequent lack of control) are a clear sign of fatigue. And we simply don’t have options in the squad at present.
For the first time since his arrival Emery looked frustrated, lost and stunned at what he was watching and appeared unable to come up with a solution. Very worrying performance across the board. All the TV, radio and online broadcasters were predicting a difficult night for Chelsea. I was less convinced and in the back of my mind I just felt that sooner or later Chelsea would click and guess what, they did.
Genuinely fear for Sunday’s game. If there’s one team we (Villa) do not want to play right now, it’s Man Utd. Even when we’ve been in good form they rock up and turn us over 😡.

Luckilly we don't have to play teams with as much quality as Chelsea everyweek but we were bad enough for many teams to get something. Agree and I cannot see us getting 3pts on Sunday, in fact at the odds I'll be putting money on it being a draw or away win sadly, we've failed to win 6 of our last 9 now and the three we did win were against Sheff U, Burnley and Boro, all Championship level.
Great show again Pete. You mention "neat and tidy" and "sharp minds and sharp touches" and also talk about bringing players back in, but no mention of possibly bringing back Little Phil from his loan. Football fans have notoriously short memories, but I for one remember several games where he was the sharpest player on the park. Yes, he is injury prone, but he has the quality that we are currently lacking in that drive to push through to the opposition box, and not over or around as you say. He's still a Villa player and may be the missing link that we need to consolidate the enviable position we currently find ourselves in. Just saying.
Absolutely spot on Pete... the drop in performance levels recently is really worrying.

Upgrade Kamara and Luiz? They're the reason along woth Pau and Watkins why we are where we are. 3 bad games and there is talk of upgrading players that we are lucky to have. There is no upgrading those players for Villa. Champions league teams would snap them up. Lets get some perspective.

I've been banging on on another podcast site,that we need a classy and experienced central midfielder.
Also we need to be incisive and make the ball do the work and quickly. We were doing this so well up to earl December. Now we become defensive in our play.
Playing out from the back doesn't really suit us,so I think Emery has to recalibrate. Also recently our high line at the back is going to prove near fatal against sides like Man Utd Liverpool Arsenal,who all have fast players. The Leicester side who won the title would have relished playing against our high line.
Let's trust in Emery to change things a little for Sunday and also the team gets on the front foot from the start,not in the 85th minute!!!

Brilliant job Pete! We are all disappointed with our current form however we will bounce back but we have to be prepared as a fan base to have a few more bumps in the road including Sunday! So fellow Villa fans don’t panic stick with the boys we are in safe hands 👍

I didn`t really understand that, we were comatose as it was.
Great points as always. I was like you just really hoping the run would go on just a few more games but in the back of my mind knew that there would be a correction or sorts. The PL just really started to realise they need a solid plan against us after what we did to City and Arsenal. We just need a touch of luck here and there now, some tweeks and I hope we can still get at least a Europa League place this season which would be satisfactory although perhaps leaving us open to the vultures about Emi and Dougie.
By the way somewhat remiss of you not to mention the last time we beat PM opposition in the FA Cup was 2015, that is just an ridiculous stat and our pathetic cup record goes on.
It was just our basic passing that was the main issue, not enough one touch passing, especially from the back… taking 2 or 3 touches before moving it on, too many occasions the receiver ran in the wrong direction… was like everyone’s atteneas were jammed…
Worse thing though was the teams body language after the goals, same as the Newcastle game, just looked devoid of energy or passion, a bit weird!!

Seems obvious having lost three of our best defenders with the best retention and attacking ability unais plan becomes a dead duck. The offside trap was noticeably missing. That says no leadership at the back either so maybe that’s a factor. Longley was also targeted as he gets the ball a lot and is more isolated with Moreno upfield. Pressing is high has always been a decent tactic for teams that’s not new but our inability in tight spaces is showing without the better players at the back. No surprise Unai has targeted defenders since arriving it’s the key to his tactics. No excuse for the terrible passing and timid pressing/marking but pep’s tactics wouldn’t work with Bournemouths players would they.

Cash needs to stay in that rb position, he’s been poor going forward lately he ether loses the ball or stops to pass it sideways, I do feel we need to tweak things slightly now and again maybe we go 3 at the back bring in that extra midfield player.

Midfield three are the problem neither have the legs or are willing to do the hard yards to get back when Villa end up facing their own goal...a lot on Sunday will depend on how United approach the game..there will be an expectation for them to attack Villa and press high which could give Villa the space to hit the front man...but if they have any sense and Villa continue to tactically play the same way they just need to set the trap in midfield and with both Villa full backs high get all the space they need to hurt Villa
Not the reason we lost, but the ref was terrible. And only 4 minutes injury time?
Once again our strike rate is poor. Only 1 in 3 shots on target. Theirs was over 1 in 2.

Villa have been found out, they cannot mix it with teams who are up for it. A full house, on the box and that’s the performance we get, what an embarrassment. Men against boys. Kamra was not the only one.

I think the simple answer is our midfield is getting murdered every game now and I think we’ve always struggled with an aggressive press on them. But I agree with you Emery’s system has been figured out now by opponents and we need a tactical response to this. Keep seeing people blame Matt Cash for this? Can someone enlighten me as to how it’s him??
Pau Torres playing would t have made any difference, the issues are tactical. I’m beginning to worry that Emery might be a bit stubborn, he must have seen our midfield wasn’t working but he still didn’t change it or make changes at half time ?

It was the Newcastle game all over again, same result and same performance. We just didn't turn up at all, Emery wanted the cup but the players didn't.

Seems like you put more effort into making this video than Villa put out on the field - I mean you really could have just put out the Newcastle episode, changed the graphics and did 5 minutes over dubbing 😉 I took the afternoon off to watch the match and was so deflated after it. I hope they can turn it around and at least get 1 point off ManU. After ManU the next few games should be easily winnable - hopefully they’ll get another winning streak in … I think the rest of the season is going to be a hard slog - I hope they can hang on with a European spot.

We are a team who plays out from the back and the only difference is we no longer have konsa torres digne at the back. Instead we have cash moreno lenglet and Carlos these 4 can't beat the press its as simple as that.

unai emery needs to start putting his foot down and start dropping players and i dont even know if he brought an extra striker he should have done that they can forget the league in fact they can forget about top 4 its not good enough.

@saimo2498 All fans have their readons for the teams they support, be it history, a game they watched the first time, a relative supports them the teams history or even the colour of their kit and many other reasons. Not all fans outside of Birmingham are glory hunters as they are normally the fickle fanbase who change their following to the latest team doing well. Oh, by the way, Villa 4th in the pl is hardly mid table.

Pete has one of the biggest Villa channels with quality content. I think it's safe to say that a big percentage of villa fans are in fact from the midlands

How do you know he hasn't seen any of his work during his visit to Birmingham? I'm sure the sponsorship didn't happen overnight with the odd email. Maybe he did or didn't, but without the facts, we don't know. Try the company out, and that'll give you a better idea as to how good they are. First-hand experience, you can't beat it
