I absolutely agree. I bought a Dior saddle in Florence in a lovely silk for around $1300 in 2004. It was impractical for me and wanted to sell it in 2015. The market was selling them for $300-$400. I couldn’t sell it for that price. Lo and behold, Dior reintroduced it and in 2021, I was able to sell it for $1900!
Did the same thing with my Prada nylon crossbody bag.
I can't believe that Loewe discontinue Puzzle. It's the Loewe bag. It introduced me to Loewe. It's my favourite luxury bag.
For years I lusted after the Saddle Bag but was still in my working pay the bills years. When I finally was able to indulge in my luxury journey a few years ago the prices for vintage had skyrocketed so much they nearly matched brand new. Ended up purchasing from Dior. I don’t carry it often but I’m absolutely in love with it. (The Helmut photo of the model with the saddle on - Galliano’s inspiration - did it for me) Wish I’d had better timing but no regrets. For some reason the Puzzle bag has never been a must have for me. But now I’ll be very interested to see where the prices go. Always informative & interesting, thanks Dacob!
i regret being born in the late 90s (as if i had a choice) as designer brands were more affordable when i was a teen, but now that im working, the prices are crazy. Its the same for everything else really.
Prices are skyrocketing but the quality seems to be in most cases sinking…
I still don't like the saddle bag, but yesterday's it bag does come back. Now yours is awesome. I still would not enjoy carrying it. I am gonna keep my eye on the puzzle because I have always liked it just could never afford it.
I would wait to see the prices of the puzzle bag develop in the near future
Will be interesting to see which way the puzzle goes since they‘re keeping the „inferior“ version and calling it the puzzle (it was called the puzzle edge before)
Great video! I remember the Gucci brought back the Jackie in 2019. It was also reinvented during Tom Ford era. Gucci recently has been re-issuing a lot of bags recently like the bamboo handle and Diana bags.
And w/ a big price tag...this is why many luxury brand like to discontinue and re-introduce in the future so they can increase the price. This is all part of the marketing strategy.
For some reason when I think LOEWE I think the elephant bag! 😂 which I loove
Cute bag
I love my puzzle bag! The leather is so so luxurious and I love the slouch
I think it's natural in the evolution of a bag in a way. Every brand has that. I remember Fendi in the 00's, the launched so many bags, from the Spy bags to whatever. The production of the Baguette decreased and they launched the Peekaboo and then relaunched the Baguette, with the price increase.
I really think that every brand that had a successful bag has the potential to turn it into a classic or to relaunch again.
When the saddle wasn't that popular, Galliano did the Gaucho and then they started to push the Lady Dior again.
I feel like the Balenciaga first and motorcycles from the Ghesquiere era will comeback.
YSL had so many great bags from the Stefano and Tom era that I still have in my closet. The Mombassa, the Muse 2 were great too.
I've been obsessed by the Vuitton Lockit and the Hermès Paris-Bombay.
Oh yes, I am obsessed with the Mombasa bag too. Its sooo beautiful 😍
I agree w/ you Dacob. I heard the same thing with the Celine luggage nano. According to the sa this bags was going to be discontinued this year but due to popularity this idea was canceled... instead they increased the price. I think the whole idea of re-issue is a marketing strategy to massively increase the price. Also making it hard to get, makes it exclusive and it will increase fomo purchase.
But the brands need to play it safe and increase the prices just the right amount so that they do not price themselves out of the market… some brands are good at that while others are less good at it and some brands in my opinion cannot afford to play those games because they simply are not that popular to begin with… so they risk to out-judge themselves thinking they are more popular and desirable than they really are…
I adore my 2 small puzzle bags. Would never ever sell. I urge anyone who wants one to jump on it or go preloved; please please avoid that watered down version ‘the edge’ Loewe are crazy to do this it’s not like they have a big rosta of classics. The boy bag is no great loss IMHO.
Thanks for the tip BeeRachael 🙏🏻🥰💖
Great video and love the LOTR reference lol! I bet this strategy is what Bottega Veneta is doing with the cassette bag, right now they're in the production era and giving all the variations so at least people are talking about it but maybe in 3-5 years they'll slow things down.
I agree about Loewe and the Puzzle and possibly reissuing it at some point. These handbag companies play these games. I'm old enough to have seen all kinds of bags come and go and pop up again. I have my three original Puzzles and will hold on to them. The first one I bought around 2017 for $900 in the size small. All of mine have feet and I think all of them have the D-ring. The second one, a size medium, was bought a few years later and the other size medium was bought last year. I also had a size large, but it was just too big and heavy so I sold it. It was in mint condition.
As for the Dior Saddle, you had a good eye to jump on a vintage one. I remember when KarenBritChick jumped on one years ago, when folks no longer wanted them, and at a really low price. A lot of bags that are now classified as vintage are made better than a lot of more recently made bags. I bought a lot of bags during the 1980s and early to mid 1990s. Folks these days don't seem to be patient enough to hold on to their bags instead of constantly buying and selling fast and then on to something else.
As for Dior, I didn't buy the Saddle bag back in the day as it didn't suit my life style. What I wanted back in 2006 was the Dior Double Saddle Gaucho bag, similar to the Saddle, but with a western vibe. It was hard to get back in the day, even in Europe. But, I stayed patient and landed one, in the reddish-brown color, last year from a private owner and for a little over $600 total. It was in mint condition. The ones that were on other websites had asking prices in the $1,300 and $1,400 range and higher although some were as low as in the high $400 range and up. The prices were all over the place. From what I have read, the original price of that bag was around $3,600. I have a feeling that at some point, Dior might re-issue it and I can't imagine what the price would be as it is solid leather and has a lot of metal medallion charms hanging from it. At least one of the medallions has the profile of Monsieur Dior on it.
As for Chanel, in the mid-80s, I bought a small flap bag at the rue Cambon boutique in Paris for less than $700. I held on to it for a good decade and then sold it to someone who really wanted it. Since it was a small flap, I had outgrown it. It was black leather, with gold with black leather chain, and limited edition as it could only be bought in France. As for Chanel flaps, I was born when the original 2.55 came out. LOL!

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us 🥰🙏🏻💖 Its great to learn all this information about pricing and styles from different years and collections and brands.
@@SuperDacob I really enjoy your reporting. You are quite knowledgeable on both handbags and how the handbag market works over the years and decades.
Greetings from Los Angeles
Of all my luxury items, my 2.55 is the most loved!
Its a beauty 🥰
I love the puzzle 🧩 to pieces. The edge I really do not care about. I do not understand Loewe. Hopefully will be brought back like the saddle…
Maybe its all about the money in the end… profits profits profits…
@@SuperDacob yes, I think so too.
I will never part with my Puzzles!! However, the past 3 seasons I haven't been excited about their collections
Which colors and sizes do you have in your puzzle collection? 😍
Looks like they are keeping the “edge” and discontinuing the regular puzzle. This is very sad, just kill it off, don’t do this cheap version. Luxury really is dying
Thats what it looks like…
your theory makes perfect sense. i will be watching the price trajectory of the preloved puzzle during the next few years. thanks
Thank you 🙏🏻🥰 its best to observe the price tendency of these bags after their discontinuation before buying too soon. 💖🌈
Love you too DACOB!❤ hahahah Yessss very good topic!! Really had me thinking!!! ❤
Thanks Jess 🥰💖🥰💖🥰🎉🎉🎉🌈💖
The discontinued Louis Vuitton original bumbag is wildly expensive, though. I can't find one pre-loved less than $3,000! I can't buy it. And the new version looks nothing like the OG and can't contain as much.
The 2018 monogram canvas bumbag? The one I have? Its been discontinued?
@@SuperDacob Yep! That one. It's not made anymore😞
@@SuperDacob yes it’s long gone and very desirable!
Hi Dacob! what do you think of the newest Dior Saddle Bags? I have always wanted one but never wanted to spend the $$. I'm looking at one now for 4,200.00 Over priced I am sure but should I follow my heart?
I do not like the new saddle bags. And I like their prices even less. Haha. But having said that, its your money and your call. 💖
Wathing this bc I’m contemplating buying a 2004 Saddle bag. It’s Galliano’s floral limited edition. It’s $2,000 do you guys think the price still worth it to buy in 2023? I’ve been thinking about it every single day for months and worrying someone would buy her out before me 😭
$200.00 seems like an absolute steal looking back !!! Btw love your makeup Dacob 😊
Thank you very much Angie 🙏🏻💖🥰
@@SuperDacob what's your go to brand for makeup? Just curious 😊
I remember in 2004, I had Dior blush and lipstick that came in a case mini gold saddle bag case. I honestly thought they were super cute.
That is super cute but they discontinued that style a long time ago. No?
The Boy Bag is KLs bag. VV stays loyal to him. She doesn‘t dare do discontinue it… just my opinion
I only heard they will discontinued the color “sand” from puzzle bag, now the original version too? I’m gonna hold on to mine, the original is so much better 😊 thanks for another great video
Jesse always broke the news first, with the Gabrielle, neverfull and now Puzzle.
Yes! Definitely got her finger on the pulse 💓
I love my boy bag!❤
About Boy bag. It was time it looked out of fashion but now I am thinking of buying it but only in size small. Really love it 😊
Just be very careful if you are buying a new one from boutique… inspect the leather and quality very carefully.
It gonna crash! None of the these so called "new classic" bags have retained their value (monetary or prestige) over time. Just ask Celine, Chloe, Prada, Dior, Gucci, etc...the list is endless
I agree. Long terms its a bust.
I have mini puzzle in gorgeous blue and white, the color combination and leather quality are amazing.I have always wanted a medium one in tan. Now I am sad,but I am gonna get one if the secondhand price crashes🤩🤩
Yes, we are not only thriving, but we are definitely skyrocketing!
Maybe it’s popularity has waned and I agree that 2nd hand prices will fall if it has fallen out of favour. The prices of LV Capucines in the MM size are astronomical new but 2nd hand, because it’s not popular, it can be found for a song! Loewe already cut back on Puzzle details, getting rid of the feet and the wider section on the strap so they do change thing up. I have the ‘edge’ puzzle, tri colour with a beautiful woven handle… and it needs these details because in a plain colour with the ordinary handle, it’s just too simple a design. The original version with the leather on leather has much more interest in a solid colour. They do have new releases of it alongside the edge version so I’m not too sure it will be discontinued. 🤷🏻♀️
when a bag 'revives' that intensely ... i wait.... once the peak is over I think about if I want it or not. And no, Maria G, i wont be buying from you. Ill be buying from the golden era with John.
Hear hear! 🎉🎉🎉 John Galliano x Dior era foreverrr 🥰🥰🥰
I believe Loewe is still going to produce the Edge Puzzle bag.
This analysis is fascinating
Thanks Jessi 💖🥰 All these bags and designs undergo massive brand marketing strategies and big money is invested in their success
Hi Jacob💖 I’m your new subscriber and I love watching you❤
Hi Sam 🥰 Thank you for subscribing to my channel and welcome to the fashion bunker 💖
Thank you for Galliano
Galliano all the way
FYI , I hate the never full. Bye bye
Speedy and Alma are iconic
I am not a fan of the neverfull. Would not purchase it either.
Discontinued bags look dated imo I won't chase after one if its not made anymore
Great points
Thank you 🙏🏻💖🥰
🤩🤩🤩
🥰💖💖🌈
Interesting comparisons. Great point about how they “should” keep it in the lineup as a classic, even in smaller batches. Hope they reissue soon! I struggle to understand why they’d totally stop production of the OG Puzzle. You’re right it IS Loewe to most.
Under the LVMH umbrella how can anything be not profitable enough / too expensive to produce? They literally charge whatever they want. Oh, you only make a 95% profit on a $3,500 USD Puzzle?! Just increase it, again. 🙄 Duh. It’s already almost doubled in three years!
I like some of their others but the Puzzle is my fave Loewe. 🤦♀️ The Edge isn’t as technically intricate or versatile. So even if they keep that it doesn’t do it for me at this price level.
Imagine a tabletop Actual puzzle where all the pieces are still connected, and you just have to turn them to complete it. Oooh, fun. 🥱
