You literally don’t need to listen to any other candle makers videos to learn candle making if you watch this channel. SO much information and so thorough and entertaining. Keep them coming!!!
Thanks so much Emma!
It is so nice, too, to see him talk with other creators. Very grateful!
I agree. Wade is amazing in his videos. I've learned so much from him
I don't understand, in that case shouldn't the wicks come with the description i, shouldn't be them testing that? It's a waste of money and time, a lot of money... So I don't understand so many wicks, but they not test9, so how do I know what they good for?? How can you buy the right one? If they don't say where to usr them!!
So they have no control the quality of wicks and what product to use with it?
Your information can't be accurate unless you tell me exactly the wax to use with specific wick... I'm making a war against wicks makers they need to take responsibility for they product!!
I don't even want to try the wood ones 🙄 more problems less money
❤
I hope everyone is enjoying the video and getting some value out of it! I know its a bit long, but there is a lot to talk about when it comes to wicks. Even this video only scratches the surface. ;) Thanks for watching and please subscribe!
That is your best video. Better than the girl and the famous guy with 60k. Don't want to say names... :) Wish you all the success. Your videos are for beginners. BUT for us who are on the road longer and still struggle we should stop watching all the other guys and watch you. Thank you
@@Dwallace-80 Well thank you for the kind feedback! While I've been making candles a long time, my youtubechannel is still new. Only been running a few months. So, yeah... I am not nearly as big as some of the others at the moment. My goal right now is just sharing my experiences, knowledge, etc. Thanks again! :)
No, it wasn't too long because the content was interesting. But I am smiling because you can talk for hours about candle-making in the same way that I wax on about soap making o anyone who will listen!
@@adastrajane Love it! :)
Not long at all because the content was the best one out there. The other videos on youtibe say things we find in the groups or candle science... Or forums
Great video! I've been making candles over 7 years and finally someone on RUclips that actually know what they're talking about! Not just guessing and trying to build an audience to attract suppliers. This is the type of info that newbies need. By the way, I love the analogies!!! 💛
Wow, thanks for the great feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I have plenty more to come. Thanks so much!
I totally agree. I have learned more by viewing these videos than I have watching the other one for more than a year. I still have issues and questions, but Black Tie Barn, please please keep these videos coming as much as possible and always full of quality. I appreciate them so much!!!!
@@courtneyfoster9667 thanks Courtney! That was very nice. Somehow I missed your comment when you first posted. :)
@@BlackTieBarn I also sent you an email not sure if you saw it.
@@courtneyfoster9667 i did. I responded back. :)
"your milkshakes might bring the boys to the yard, but if they can't drink it they'll go home " hahahahaha i understood this whole video with just that !!
🤣😆😅
Do shoe strings and yarn 🧶 burns efficient or good like yarn ??
I died when he said that, hahahahaa
Lmao!! He looked like he regretted it after lol
I’m sitting hear with a box of supplies for my first candle making venture. I had no idea so much goes into the process. I’m so glad I found your videos! I can start with some confidence. I’m hoping it will be as relaxing as my gardening is in the spring and summer months. You’re very informative and chill to watch. Thank you!
Thanks so much Cynthia! It CAN get complicated but it's best to approach it slowly in stages and keep it simple. Good luck to ya!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🕯️ me too !
😅 Same here, but nothing compere to guarding, nothing can give you that feeling of life... Well candles are dead materials, but they so beautiful ❤
I’m about to start a candle business and just trying to make sure I buy the right supplies. What size jars should I buy and what type of wicks should I use. I know I want to use core wicks but what size jars should I use ?
I'd love a video on wooden wicks. The details of this video and channel sucked me in and let me know that I'm far more interested in this craft than I thought I was.
Yah, its a bit additive. I'll add woodwicks to video topic schedule as well. No eta though yet. :)
My only negative comment on your well informative videos is a lack of a visual. I'm a visual learner and I bet others are too. Your videos are chocked full of great info and I find myself going back more often than once. I almost feel like I'm taking a candle-making class (yes I have a notebook going). Keep up the awesome work.
Thank you. I'll try to incorporate more visuals when I can. :)
Where were you in m y life a year ago, when I started my candle journey. this is a topic that is never discussed in detail. thank you for doing this video
Ha! Well, I was here... just not on here. 😂 Thanks for joining in now nevertheless. :)
i think its best to watch your videos twice so i don't miss anything, it also helps to have a pen and a notebook on hand.
Thank you. Yah, sometimes I probably dive in too much. Maybe separate videos. L
@@BlackTieBarn no no, diving in to much is good, really good🥰😅
I just like to make sure i dont miss anything 😁
I'm watching this video a third time just because I want to make sure I didn't miss anything and if I did; to add it to my notes. Thanks for sharing. May watch it again.
No problem! :)
The first 30 seconds of this video has been me( probably most of us) so many times . I was unorganized when I began, and more than once, took a wick out of the labeled bag, got busy then forgot which size I took.🤦🏼♀️ They all look identical out of the bags to me. I'm way more organized and careful now!😁 Thanks for the great video! I appreciate all the wonderful knowledge you and the commenting candle makers share❤️
no problem. Thanks so much!
Wow. This was really useful. Usually when you ask for wick troubleshooting help the typical the response is "do lots of testing." Er, do ya wanna narrow that down a little more? Thanks for the helpful video.
Hit the like button 7 seconds in!!!! This is my life when it comes to wicks!!!!
😂
The beginning of the video... that is so me! I have so many wicks and have NO idea what wax, what candle size they go with, just crazy. Thank you!!!
Lol. Thanks!
Currently in the wick testing phase of my business, & I have a few extra gray hairs lol. Nonetheless learning is so refreshing & this video breaks it down beautifully, my weekend will consist of watching your videos & taking notes.
One of the best candle video on RUclips! Thank you for this!
Thanks Donald!
Best video on wicks I’ve seen so far! Thank you!
Thanks Stephanie. You are welcome. :)
I have listened to this video so many times because it’s one of the most comprehensive and informative videos about wicks on the internet!
I must have listen this video several times and each time I learn something new. Thank you so much for all your videos. I have learn so much from you. I’m a very new candle maker.
Thanks Joni. This was one of my first ever videos. Definitely will be doing an updated one. ,:)
This is an amazing video! I am so grateful to have found you! I have yet to make my first candle, in fact I haven’t even bought supplies yet. My Amazon cart is full of potential purchases suggested in the first video of yours I watched. I had no idea candle making was so complex. I will be watching a lot more of your videos before jumping in and possibly getting frustrated or discouraged. I’m excited to start especially now that I have your guidance. I love your presentation and humor. ❤️
It definitely can be complex at first. But once you get a handle on things, it becomes much simpler.
Would love a video on your wick testing, and showing what to expect from proper burn pools/diameters at certain points.
Amazing stuff again.
Oh I've got one here on the channel I'll link it below. But check put the videos section and you find several on other topics as well. Hope this helps ! :) Thanks Clive!

@@BlackTieBarn You've helped greatly. Thanks again for all of your work and knowledge you're sharing with all of us.
Np. Thank you!
I'm trying to find is there a 3 inch thick wick in width and maybe 7 inch in length cause I want a thick flame ??
Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
I love how you teach your craft it is insightful helpful and I enjoy making my candles after watching you
Thanks so much
Wade, you are truly an amazing coach and love the sense of humor you throw into the mix! Thank you so much for all the help you provide for us newbies!
Last night I had a meltdown, me and not my candles, 🤪😅 with some wicks coming loose out from the base in a 3 wick vessel after having poured my wax! Had to quickly pour out the wax back into the pouring pitcher, back on the heat, and rushing to put new wicks in other vessels then pour again. Went w the premiere wicks at that point, the cdn’s coming apart at the base scared me!
Started testing 2.5 months ago and thought I’d be done by now. Well apparently not yet! Crazy the variables affecting everything from one to the other!!!
Sadly won’t make it in time for the holiday sales. Wish I’d started 3 months earlier! 🙃 On the positive side, I’ll def be ready by the next one!!!😅😂
Heck yeah. Just keep moving forward! :)
I’ve been struggling to understand why wick testing matter so much, and this is the best video I’ve seen on the topic!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Love your google/youtube name by the way! 😁
@@BlackTieBarn thanks!!
Totally agree. Wicks are what confuses me in my early learning stage of candle making. If we don't investigate and trial it all its a waste of equipment, time and $$$. All which are so precious. How good is he? Great find!! 👍
That was amazing from start to finish. You’ve really made a difference especially for those like me just starting out. I am a soap maker so the process should be easy, but not without these tips. So important. Doing your homework first is key. I have seen videos where people are plopping their wick right in without securing. They are not helping us by teaching the wrong methods so thank you thank you for being extra specific. Bless you!
Thank you very much. Knowledgd is power and the wrong information is dangerous. So I do my best to be diligent and pass along my own experiences and info. Hoping to help. :)
I've been watching quite a few candle videos. This was my favorite. Milkshake comment was great.
Haha. Well thank you. And I appreciate the positive feedback. It was one of my first ones. :)
I have considered myself a fairly experienced and knowledgeable candle maker until discovering this channel. The more I learn the more I realize how little I actually know.
We definitely learn from one another!!
Thank you your time and all of this information. I have been studying everyday for at least six weeks. You are one of the few that gives exact details and I really appreciate it. I know this will help many people and save much time and frustration. Ci
No problem Cindy. Glad you are enjoying! :)
Those three people who put the thumb down , may be jealous. Go ahead, you are the best youtuber and you have a master in candles maker. Marisol from Tampa Florida.
Lol, thanks. Yes.... I do know of a couple people that give my video a thumbs down shortly after its posted. Childish, but oh well. :) Just here to try and help.
Came here for John Wick, stayed for candles.

Thank you for all of the great information. I have been making & selling candles for 1.5yrs and I am learning a lot. I use CD wicks but want to learn more about wooden wicks so your videos have been amazing. Thank you 😘
Thanks so much. Welcome and thanks for watching!
Wade, by far the most informative video on the internet about all the different wicks! Thank you sooo much! - Krista
Thanks Krista! :)
Can you use a shoe string for candle wick or how about some yarn. And if you twist 3 or 4 shoe strings or yarn together can it create a thicker flame ??
This is one of the most informative videos I’ve seen on wicks. It definitely helped me a lot. Thank you!
Thanks Jen. Planning an updated one in the near future as well. :)

I'm looking to get into candle making because a big box store candle I bought works like garbage. I'm going to do what millions of dollars of research couldn't do, and I'm going to do that through proper wicking thanks to your video! 😎🤘
I have watched this multiple times. You are SO thorough. Thank you much for sharing. Can't for your video on the types of wax for wax melts.
Thank you so much. And that is definitely planned. ;)

Appreciate that. Thanks Shane!
New subbie & candle maker here. Thanks so much for this info. Just started and needed a video that breaks it down.
Thanks so much! Glad you are here!
I just wanted to say thank you, Wade. I'm new to candle-making. For me, it's a hobby, and I have no intention of selling my creations. I just love candles and want to avoid spending all my money at Yankee Candle! I'm using 6006 wax and had tried a CD wick based on a guide I found on one retailer's site. I must have had the wrong size because I was getting a lot of mushrooming, and it seemed like the burn was too hot and too fast. After watching this and reading your responses to other comments, I purchased some Premier wicks, and they work so much better. This makes me very happy! I am learning so much from your great videos. Again, thank you!!! 🙂
Great to hear! Yeah, I'm not a fan of CD for the most part. Thanks for the kind Feedback. :)
LMAOOO AT THE INTRO! 🤣 BUT IM AT THAT STAGE… Then said “Brings all the boys to the yard! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💯 😱 wicks … BUT I REFUSE TO GIVE UP! Patience I know is required! Your channel is gonna hit the roof bc you really teach so well! Thorough always!

"Your milk shake may bring all the boys to the yard. But if they can't eat it, .... they are going to go home." Omg I can't believe u just referenced that 🤣🤣🤣 I can't stop laughing lol. Thanx.
Btw I love your vids. Thank you so much for so many crafted vids. You are awesome and full of knowledge. I apriciate all of your efforts that go into these vids. Just started watching ur channel this summer 2022. You have inspired me to create. Thank you.

I have read almost all your replies to comments 😁 and I have to say I really admire the time you take to answer all the comments. Thank you for all the valuable info. I have been testing for 2 months now and with your valuable info, I have been advancing 😊. Doing all this to gift my candle creation to family and friends for Christmas but loving it so much, that I might consider start a small business.

I learned so much useful information in this detail-filled video. I sure wish I had the knowledge gained from your videos in my arsenal when I started my glorious, frustrating, pocket-book draining candle making journey! Thanks for giving us such quality content!
Ha! Trust me... I feel the same way. Always frustrating when looking retrospectively isn't it?! Lol
I love the info you provide , thank you and blessings to you and your loved ones
Thanks!
Best honest video!!! I'm testing IGI6006 and I'm messed up between ECO4, ECO6, HTP 93 and HTP 104. I gonna try all your recommendations
Thanks Angela. My goal will always be to actually help, not mislead. I find way too much bad advice out there just to get an audience. ;/ I am glad you enjoyed the video and hopefully some of my suggestions help! As you know, there are so many variables (even ambient temperature and humidity). So, sometimes it is just about getting a good starting point and experimenting from there. :) Feel free to subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. I have much more content coming down the road. I will be relocating over the next couple months so things will get interesting, but I promise to keep content flowing. ;) Thanks again for your feedback, Angela!
My goodness, this is exhaustive. Good work, thank you.
Yah. Sorry... I got carried away. 🤣
Haha milkshakes! Great analogy totally understand it. Just started candle making as a hobby and seriously considering a business. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Awesome Gina! Good luck. Happy to have you here!
@@BlackTieBarn how soon should i smell the scent of a candle while burning?
@@fancymonroe9231 That is really going to depend on the wax type and the size of the jar. Large wide jars with multiple wicks you will start smelling very quickly (15 minutes or so). Small jars with one wick might take a full hour. Everything else in between. I wouldn't judge it negatively if you aren't smelling anything within in the first 30-45 minutes though.
The intro was funny. Great information! Thank you!!
😁 thank you!
Hey Wade....one of the more informative wick videos I have seen. Through my journeys of using joy wax, I have found that the premier wick is one of the best. In my pillar candles I go with LX wicks which work well. Couple of points....I find that liquid dye effects the wick as well. I have switched to candlewic dyes that don’t have that turpentine smell that other manufactures have. Once again.....thank you for such an informative video on wicks.
Great tip! You are right... and not sure if I mentioned it specifically, but dye definitely can affect wicking for sure! I agree on the Premier wicks. I use them and htp exclusively with soft parasoys like joy/problend 600. Thanks for subscribing!
Are you getting good throw with Joy Wax? Im not getting any scent. I need the secret.
Complete newby here. Your vid was brilliant. Going to binge-watch them all. I had no idea there were different types of wicks until I tried to order some, and then I had no clue what to get! I'm a soap-maker and my customers have been asking me for scented candles. Everytime I add a new line (bath bombs, wax melts etc) my sales go up. So keen to give candles a go.😊
Haha.... I bet. Sounds like considering another product is a good idea. That's great you are doing we so far. My biggest tip for candle making... patience. It can be a frustrating process. Lol
Okay Wow. There is a lot to wicking. LOL. I wish I had you on speed dial or as my very own consultant. I’m gonna have to watch this over and over again. Thank you for making this and all of your other video for that matter. This is Very much appreciated and helpful. I just placed my first order to start the Testing STage....wish me luck. Take care and all the best!!

The vids I've watched have been super helpful!

Your very detailed charts on all things wicks that are included on your website are super valuable and informative. I appreciate the work that must have gone into those. You could put links to those charts here in your description since this vid is all about wicks. Thank you. And yes, sometimes it takes a longer video to cover as much as I want. :) I promise they aren't all that long. :)
Thank you for this informative video. I am a new candle maker and so far have found that HTP wicks are very versatile. Also, you can get the Premier wicks at Aztec.
Thanks Erica. Yeah htp wicks are versatile. And you are correct about Aztec, I just have always ordered mine through Flaming Candle. Thanks for coming by and for the comment! :)
I’ve rewatched the opening of this video several times. It’s hilarious!!!!! (It’s me at the moment 🤣)
🤣
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have experienced all the things you explained with LX wicks, using 6006 wax. The flame gets higher, and stalk gets longer....and my biggest issue is the soot. I hate the way it looks so dirty after burning! I didn't know if it was my wax or my wick. I was on the hunt to move to CD wicks because I had read another candle maker say they experienced less soot with it...but after watching your video, I am going to try to Premier 700 wicks. I'll follow up and let you know how next batch of testing goes! Thank you again for this video, can't wait to see more! I'd love to hear more of your tips and tricks as well as informative info like this video on types of wicks that is not easy to come by.
Excellent! Happy to help and happy to hear you got some value from the video. Yes. I would recommend premier 700 wicks or htl wicks before CD wicks. CD soot and smoke more than the others and need trimmed religiously.
Thank you for the feedback and stay tuned... I'll have more coming for sure. If you haven't already, subscribe abd hit the bell icon for notifications so you will know as I post more! :)
Thankyou, you have really helped me. I'm a complete novice. I would like a video on wooden wicks though.
I know this was posted a while ago but I wanted to provide some information about cheap wicks. I had issues with wick stickers and figured out yesterday what I was doing wrong. But I was doing a test and had already put 3 wicks in, had the wax to less than 170F and the wicks all three of them, started to float. They actually all came out of the metal holder. Cheap Amazon wicks. I’m going to crimp them all so it doesn’t happen again. Next time, I’m buying from a supplier. Thanks for the great video, lots of valuable information.
Hey Elly! Yes... good wick tabs and crimps make a big difference. Thank you for sharing.... and for being here! :)
You’re amazingly informative. Love you analogies
Thanks!
ok Wade...that was a longggg video but...SO WORTH watching!!! lol :p Thanks you so much for taking the time out o share and teach. You're awesome!!
😆 Thanks! And yes it was.... too much to cover quickly. I would have felt like I was doing an injustice to the content otherwise. :/
Just looking into candle making myself and came across your video and want to say it was extreamly informative! I love that it was long actully, as there was a lot of very detailed and useful information that way!
Liked and subscribed!
Thanks so much!
Great video!!! Nice to have a professional doing videos!!
Glad you liked it! I hope you subscribe as well. Lots more to come. Thanks for your feedback, Leslie! :)
Thank you very much for this video. One of the best I’ve seen on wicks since starting this journey. You were able to speak on my level.
Great. Thanks for the feedback Michael!
Great show! Invaluable information: Fun format!
Ty!
That analogy had me laughing out loud! Especially when you mentioned the boys will leave....lol!
🤣🤣 awesome lol
Thank you so much for being so thorough in explaining this! This was really helpful!
No problem!
Do shoe strings and yarn 🧶 burns efficient or good like yarn ??

Learning Something new Need To Known About Candle wick Great Teaching Tool
Thank Crystal!
Super great informative video! Your analogies are excellent :) One thing I would add is a little picture or clip of the wicks as you bring them up. :)
Yep. This one my 2nd video ever.... was learning the video making part as I went. I didn't think images of the wicks would be that helpful though as most wicks look the same or similar. But definitely next time. :)
30seconds in that summarized my wick journey with limited budget. Okay, I'll continue watching/listening.
😁🤣😆 Love it. This was one of my first ever videos and was so fun. Can't wait to do another dedicated wick video down the road. Thanks for watching. :)
I didn't hear anything about beeswax here. Great video about wicks for the general audience.
I don't use a ton or have ton of experience. But most use cd or square braid wicks with straight beeswax
Dude this has been sooo helpful sooo over these eco wicks in the igi6006..so I know I'm new at this but I've been using uv glue for securing my wicks..lil dab then put in an hit it with 365nm uv flash light it's cured in a few seconds..put a strong magnet down an use that for minor adjustments..it handles high temps no prob..but thanks again!
Thanks! Glad you liked it. And yah, that sounds like a great method!
I love your candle making business
