I'm a violin teacher in England. Some of my best and most rewarding moments in teaching have been working with Adults - often learning alongside their children. My oldest ever pupil was one Donald Freeman, who was 93 years old [seriously] when he came to me. Well Done!! .You've just spent 7 years of your life in one of the best possible ways. For me, the Bach solo Partitas and Sonatas are the Mt. Everest of the violin repertoire - there are harder pieces, but none greater. And one of the many great things about playing the violin is that you'll never get it perfect - so there's always more to aim at, and you'll never get bored! I spent a lot of the Covid lock-downs working on getting through the Bach Chaconne - my own personal target was to get through it without stopping, to a standard I, [and perhaps only I ] was happy with, and without spraining my left wrist... I loved your commitment to the cause, and also that you could smile at yourself when you went for a chord, and it didn't quite come off. I always tell my pupils that violin playing is hard, but it ain't Brain surgery. When we get it wrong, nobody dies; so just go for it! Best wishes for your future learning - keep it going!
Thanks for the lovely words. It was indeed a mountain to climb, and I had to learn so many techinques, develop so many intuitive masteries along the way. It fed back into everything else I worked on, all the time, and each time I came back it was slightly easier. I think its probably the best music every written, and it gives me so much pleasure just to play it. I'm glad others seem to dig it too, and I'm so humbled and grateful. I know so many others have trodden this path, and I know what it takes to get there. I've loved every second, it's really been a guiding light for me over the past 7 years experiencing UK Austerity on the blade edge. I'm going to go find some nice acoustics and play it for people. If it can make people stop, listen, and forget the world for a few minutes, and be happy, then I've achieved my goal.
