Going slow on a 50-50 or anything that you put your trucks on is so much harder to me because you are so much more likely to lock on the wrong side and get smoked. One of my friends that’s incredible on rails said something when I was learning 50s on rails that resonated with me, he said “it’s physics, then proceeded to explain if you set your trucks on a round rail the board with fall every time, but if you go at it with speed in a straight line the momentum will take you forward and you won’t go back or chest to the rail”. Once I thought about that I learned a bunch of rail tricks that I thought I’d never be able to do. Any trick off from the deck going because you have no runway would be sketchy to me bro! Respect for making it happen 🫡.

@@brandonwelsh7296 Yeah that was one of my worries when regaining confidence on flatbars for sure! I kinda figured as long as I got over the initial fear of hopping on then the rest would come back to me naturally to where I would just go for it without thinking or hesitating. That was my biggest thing was just getting myself to commit on and stand on top, because I’ve skated so many flatbars and done so many 50s, ESPECIALLY on round bars, that I already knew what to do, but was mentally holding myself back from doing it. You can definitely see in the video where that mental block finally goes away and I start to not think as much!

I could really relate to this! I used to have front and back 50-50s/krooks on rails on lock. But after a couple injuries stopped really trying those tricks and now have a real mental barrier when trying 50-50s on rails!

Like on ledges I have no issues! It’s something about rails that started to mess with me, but I miss skating them and want to get back into it again!

Bro very relatable, I’m putting myself through rail boot camp currently, I was doing the exact same thing as you on the crooks, what I was messing up was I wasn’t letting myself use my toes to pinch it as much and once I figured that out been doing better with them

I'd recommend contacting Keen Ramps, they'll probably have some good advice about how to restore your rail to the best possible condition.

I struggle with rails as well, and with that being said I am in no position to really give any advice, but for the 50 slightly looser trucks and cross-locking definitely helps.

I’m weird with 50’s, like I only do them frontside on rails but do frontside or backside on ledges, but yeah this video was mostly just for me to break the mental barrier that was holding me back from hopping on rails! I usually sit heelside on my frontside ones, but if it moves into a cross lock I can usually still make it work haha

i learned 50s on rails stationary and by learning how to cross lock, my issue primarily is doing it with speed.

When I used to do 50s on rails a lot, I pretty much never cross locked unless it was by accident! I’ve always been a heel side guy.

I am the exact same my mate gave me a small rail to practice on but it’s square it takes me about a hour to actually jump into it but once I do it once am fine then if I don’t get out for a few days it’s back to the same mental shit 😂 I can do it fine it’s just that mental thing where am shit scared that first try same with rails at other parks I won’t go near them because it’s not my rail 😂

I think to improve your 50 50s is speed. If you go fast enough and are able to get both trucks on, you should be able to lock into your grinds better

Yeah my backyard setup makes it tough to get enough speed, otherwise I’d definitely go faster! That deck is about 12ft, so getting one push across a deck that’s warped with nails sticking up to a 6ft flatbar isn’t the most ideal setup 😂

I’ll definitely do some setups where I can fully grind too, my main goal with this video was just getting comfortable with simply hopping on a rail again since I stepped away from them for a while 🤘
