  • Soooooo, as I have promised, we are going to study English vowels today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To find more information about English letters you can watch my previous lessons!!!!
There are 5 vowels as you know: A E I O U, they are devided into long and short vowel sounds! And we need to know the difference between short vowel sounds and long vowel sounds.
When a vowel sounds like its name (as it is represented in the alphabet), this is called a long sound. A vowel letter can also have short sounds. Let’s talk about short vowels.
    Short Vowels
The most common sound for each vowel is its “short” sound:
    • Letter Aa pronounced /æ/ Open widely your mouth and repeat the sound again please /æ/ - as in an apple. This is an apple.
    • Letter Ee pronounced /ɛ/ - as in an elephant. This is an elephant.
    • Letter Ii pronounced /ɪ/ abruptly - as in a pin. This is a pin.
    • Letter Oo pronounced /ɒ/ as in an octopus. This is an octopus.
    • Letter Uu, pronounced /ʌ/ as in an umbrella. This is an umbrella.
Ok!!! An now let us proceed to the Long vowels (when a vowel says its name). We call them ‘long’ because we hold them longer than the short sounds. Look here:
    • Letter Aa pronounced /eɪ/ ( the same as in the alphabet) as in a plane. This is a plane.
    • Letter Ee pronounced /iː/ as in an eagle. This is an eagle.
    • Letter Ii pronounced /aɪ/ as in a bike. This is a bike.
    • Letter Oo pronounced /oʊ/ as in a mole. This is a mole.
    • Letter Uu pronounced /juː/ as in a cube. This is a cube.
Well, these were vowel sounds and ways of their pronunciation. They are commonly used, however there are many exceptions…….and in this case we need to “ask” a dictionary!!!!
Our lesson is over for today!!!!!!! Thanks a lot for everything!
