  • Hey, fellow BFS anglers! Join me, Aaron Hunt, on an exciting day of bass fishing on the river. In this video, I take you along as I explore one of my favorite smallmouth bass spots. The Bass Forecast app tipped me off that today could be epic, so I couldn't resist hitting the water despite recent iffy conditions.
I start off with a tube lure and quickly hook into a small bass, but as the day progresses, I switch things up, trying different lures like the Berkley Money Badger crankbait and the Bitsy Tube. The bites are few and far between, but that's just part of the game, right?
Throughout the video, I share tips and tactics for fishing in these conditions, including using scent attractants like Procure (alnk.to/90y9dvZ) and varying retrieval speeds. I also discuss the importance of following bite windows and lunar phases, which the Bass Forecast app helps me track.
Despite not landing a ton of fish, it's always a great day on the water. Plus, I get to showcase the sensitivity and performance of my Kistler Hunt BFS rod, which I rely on for its precision and finesse in these situations.
So, come along for the adventure, and let's see if we can hook into some big smallmouth bass together! Don't forget to check out the Kistler Hunt BFS rod I use in this video for your own bass fishing adventures. www.aaronhunt....
Thanks for watching, and as always, tight lines!

Been enjoying you content lately. Im A river rat. Rarely ever fish lakes or ponds. We fish similar as i only fish finesse and ultra light and do so almost exclusively with BFS Gear. I have one Spinning outfit left and it gets used only for drifting power bait or worm chunks for trout.
Also I fish with tubes 90 percent of the time. in fact the whole reason i got into bfs was to fish finesse tubes without the line twist. My first bfs (wasn't even called that at the time lol) was a Diawa Presso. It was Diawa's first area trout bait caster back in the day. Could achieve 1/16th out of the box which besides a modified abu or Diawa pixy there was nothing else comparable. Acuired a Conquest Shallow Special next. Both are awesome reels still fishes well to this day. The presso showing its age more than the Conquest. Three generations of alderbaran and conquests later and i still feel no need to pick up a spinning rig.
As far as you struggling with tubes? I custom pour my own jigs. I figured out a long time ago smaller hooks are the way to go....less snags and even with 6lb fluro a long steady pull will get your bait back without breaking off. Simply bend the hook back and touch up the point with a hook sharpener. As long as you have drag set and proper action rod you will never bend hooks out. I use light wire #4 and #6 hooks for my jigs.Smaller hooks mean less force required to drive hook in and smaller hole helps keep fish pinned. Ive caught 40 inch muskies trophy smallies huge drum and bruiser catfish, on #4 hooks and never lost a fish cuz the hooks straightened. Been doing it for 20 years.
Having a lil thump turn into a 10 min battle never gets old. I primary use 2.5" and 3.5" finesse tubes. I use a 575 Aberdeen for longer tubes to help keep the tube from folding over the hook. catch a lot of dinks, but any predatory fish in the river will slurp a 2.5" tube with a 1/16th jig in it. I named this technique "Dink Dink DONK" lol Try smaller tubes and hooks....also the smaller hooks hang up way less. Hope you start rippn on em with tubes soon!

Appreciate the tips. Definitely looking for smaller tube heads. Been trying the Owners - they are definitely better than the traditional tube heads.

Hey, at least I haven't been losing it since some generous subscriber sent me a better magnetic keeper! :P
Always nice to get out; definitely better than being in an office.

Aaron here is a trick to the Hellgrammite. Instead of hooking them up traditional like you were doing. Hook them up with your hook going through the side of the bait. Rigging it sideways allows you to keep the bait more natural.

      I'll give it a try!

@@AaronHuntFishing pal check out a channel named Creek Fishing Adventures for how I mentioned rigging the Hellgrammite. I am not the one who came up with what I told you.

I just found a free solunar forecast that might be better than the Bass Forecast app: solunarforecast.com/hunting_fishing/best_times/table/united_states/pennsylvania/pittsburgh/

The 2 or 3 days before a front are when I fish, if possible. I still don’t use electronics in the kayak, no motor. I’m young but old school in that sense. This app would give me nightmares about missed opportunities on the water

I don't check it all the time - like I said it rarely pans out. In fact, my 1-year subscription recently expired. Not renewing. But, I often share less successful trips - just because that's my fishing life. And I'm trying to fish this one spot a little more frequently this year just to stay on top of how the fishing changes through spring.

What size hook/weight of those owner tube hooks did you use with the powerbait tube? They come in 3/0 and 5/0 I think?
