Remember, Aonuma saw the positive reaction to the OG BotW trailer that had people asking "Is that playable Zelda?!" Zelda being unplayable in TotK was a huge missed opportunity. Tears of the Kingdom should’ve had Link thrown to the past and Zelda as the MC, great reason to go back to low hearts and stamina and a new perspective on a rebuilding Hyrule. At Minimum, we should've had Paper Mario style sections where you play as her.

I respect Arlo playing a CD-i Zelda game for the background footage despite what a pain they can be. I would love a Zelda game that somehow built off of BotW/TotK but focussed on Zelda’s strengths and how she should play as a character. She’s into archaeology, so an exploration and discovery based game reusing previous assets would be awesome! I haven’t gotten to try the Peach game yet but the main complaint I hear is how sparse the gameplay is. If they do a Zelda game, I hope they go all-in.
Here's how you do it: replicate Zelda 1986 BACKWARDS! You start out with full hearts and all items. You enter one of the nine dungeons, place a TriForce piece, hide away a weapon, and bait Gannon's monsters with a heart piece to seal the dungeon. So the game gets harder because you lose items, hearts, and TriForce pieces! Not because the monsters scale. It'll be innovative as you paint yourself into a corner.
I really think this would be a great idea for an indie title or something, on the shorter side perhaps. A lack of enemy variety might become an issue wrt player "progression" over a lengthy campaign
PapaGenos is a RUclipsr more than a guy on Twitter, most people found him for his Smash Bros speculation videos where he broke down all the hints and rumours - he himself is not a leaker generally
TOTK was their best chance to give Zelda her own game. I think it's clear at this point that Nintendo isn't interested; they'd probably misidentify what makes people want a game like this anyway
This I agree with. From interviews with the team it’s clear that Nintendo just can’t make heads or tails of anything their fanbase wants or why they want it in the first place. I mean- they literally wrote off anybody looking for a return to more linear story progression as just “nostalgic” because the unhindered freedom of Breath and Tears is so clearly a direct upgrade from previous titles that had absolutely zero drawbacks at all whatsoever. Or that, perhaps, people actually come to these games for the overarching lore and story because this fanbase and the creators making content for it have a lot more in common with a franchise like Fallout than Mario, and upending shit for the hell of it because it’s too hard to write a story within the very loose confines of their pre-established setup, wasn’t a great idea💀
@@Piiiiiiiiit Considering they took "people want a Peach game" and turned out something that could have been a Barbie project from the 2000s if you scratched the labels off, I can't say I trust them to understand the appeal of most of their IP to non-kids
Hard agree with both of you. I was actually holding out for playable Zelda sections in TOTK before we got a decent look at the game then inevitability but unsurprisingly disappointed when that didn't turn out. I believe this was their best chance to make her playable as they'd spent the two previous games (counting AOC) developing her character as one that could stand on her own and have the skillset to set out on her own adventure, especially with the scientist angle they went for. But instead she's whisked away to the past to help out Rauru and Sonia, which in essence is cool I just hate how *passive* it is from a player perspective. I love how much she actively contributed to saving the world in both titles its just that we never get to live her doing it and have to see it though cutscenes. Again I do think that Nintendo is somewhat trying to give this iteration of the character more agency and motivations but I would 100% prefer it is she was a present/interactable character in game NOW, and actively helping Link save the kingdom. Which is almost what she does but would work better if we saw it through gameplay though I'll admit I'm not so sure how it could've fit pacing wise. In the end I'm sort of glad we don't have a title focused solely on her just yet as given Nintendo's track record with the past two Peach games... I'd be kinda scared of how they'd handle my girl lmao
@@dj.thanatos I've said several times, aside from the non-linearity ruining any sense of plot progression, the biggest flaw of the Memory system of storytelling is it just showed me glimpses of a game I'd rather be playing.
Pitches for a few Zelda games: 1. You actually play as 3 different Zeldas, one from each split timeline. The three communicate with each other using the Mcguffin of Nayru. The goal is to combine all three timelines together so that we have the start of BotW. 2. We witness the "Hero is Defeated" timeline and how it ultimately brings us to A Link to the Past. So essentially the Imprisoning War. 3. We play as Sheik within the 7 years Link was frozen in time in OoT. 4. A Zelda game when she wasn't the damsel/kidnapped, aka during Link's Awakening or Majora's Mask. 5. (Tears of the Kingdom Spoiler Warning) The game takes place in the past. She trained on how to use Recall, what else did she learn? She could have been stuck in the past for years for all we know before ultimately making her final decision. They could use the BotW map template again, but if they do, change it enough so it doesn't feel rehashed.
I was hoping that’s what Tears of the Kingdom would have been based on early marketing of the game. But seemed like Nintendo Chickened out. I just hope there’s no “pink tax”. I was excited for Princess Peach getting her own game only to find out it was such a watered down experience meant to be baby girl’s first game as opposed to a high budget, fleshed out, polished adventure that can provide entertainment and commitment (in terms of providing satisfying difficulty progression) for those of all ages. I hope Zelda gets the Metroid treatment as opposed to Princess Peach Showtime
I've been wanting a Zelda centric game since the early days of deviantart where there was a little trend of people making fan-concept art for a fictional Zelda game with Zelda as the protagonist. Irrc a lot of those old designs were like steam punk themed. But i'd take any game. just let me be Zelda!

Before TOTK released, I was really hoping Zelda would have been a playable character with Link. We went through all the trouble saving her in BOTW, I was hoping we would PLAY as her or she would accompany link
To be fair TLoZ: TotK feels like Link just ended up as a Janitor for Imprisoning War and you're just running around recovering from Gloom poisoning and tying up the loose ends... While Zelda had her own EPIC, way more exciting adventure in the past... And we only got to watch some video highlights for it while moping the floor and cleaning up that Gloom spilled all over the place. Seriously Zelda's side looked SO INTERESTING and it is unplayable...
Princess Zelda getting her own game would be really cool. I imagine a game like the old 3D Zelda games, but with spells instead of items and an increased emphasis on puzzle-solving (since Zelda's triforce is the triforce of wisdom). That said, I also want to see more Legend of Zelda games where Zelda adventures alongside Link like in Spirit Tracks.
If they do a Zelda game where you play as Zelda, I think I would prefer her to be more like Twilight Princess Zelda or OOT Zelda. It’s not that I dislike Zelda from BOTW or TOTK, but it kind of feels like we’ve already explored most or all the interesting parts of her character, and we already got a lot of her in the Age of Calamity timeline as well. Skyward Sword Zelda was also interesting, but again I think we already know so much about her and her journey that it isn’t something that needs rehashing. TP Zelda seemed very complex and cryptic. She was clearly aware of the darkness spread throughout Hyrule’s history and even saw herself as a participant in that darkness. She exhibited tremendous leadership qualities and actually seemed like an adult. We see most other Zeldas exist as a circumstance of their situation. Things happen TO them. TP Zelda seemed like more of a force to be reckoned with even in spite of the fact that she surrendered to Zant’s army. She felt calculating. I would love a playable Zelda with that kind of personality but also with the skills of OOT’s Zelda being trained like a Sheikah.
I'd say that with Zelda being the bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom, the game could be more puzzle-focused instead of action-focused. That would be cool, could go the direction of a tactics game with Zelda being the Princess of Hyrule (and in many instances, its ruler), or an adventure game more akin to the series but with a larger focus on the process of defeating enemies instead of mainly sword-focused combat with a single item sometimes being sprinkled in
Are you saying it would be the same style as most Zelda games? Or a tactics style akin to Fire Emblem? I've yet to see an idea for Zelda being playable that actually sounds fun. The whole point of Zelda is Link goes through all trials of the Triforce: Power - Enemy combat Wisdom - Dungeon Puzzles Courage - Actually doing the tasks (Links characteristic) As far as I can tell the only reason people want Zelda to be playable is to play as a girl. Nothing Zelda does Link can't do especially if its a different iteration Link can literally do whatever the developers want him to making Zelda unnecessary for gameplay.
I think the best thing they could do is 100% make a Zelda game set during everything she went through in totk. not being able to be there during the cool stuff was the biggest issue ppl had with the game, so maybe they are cooking up a new hyrule warriors or even a new standalone title
Honestly, with a few tweaks, Zelda could've been the protagonist in "Breath of the Wild"! The memories in the first game could've easily been Zelda learning about Link, and how HE failed to defeat Ganon!
Give me a Zelda game in the "spirit" of Spirit Tracks, in the sense that you have control over _both_ Link _and_ Zelda, this time a Zelda who can cast magical spells and use a bow; have her actively work together with Link to defeat the big bad.
I'm glad your smoothie was great. Edit: Now related to the video; I would like to have Zelda in her own game, but I think for it to work it will have to be a Zelda we don't know. Most Zelda games have a new Zelda, new Link, but not always a new Ganondorf. I don't know how you can fit Zelda in with the story of the franchise, but I would still like to see something like this.
It would be cool to have a game starring Zelda in the TOTK cannon where you play through the events of her travelling back to the past. Sort of like Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity but not a warriors game.
7:21 While this is often the case, there are times when I think leaking things is fine. Take for example LEGO sets. Often LEGO will do massive adult oriented sets that cost something in the range of $200-500 dollars. These big sets will also usually come with promotional gifts with purchase if you buy them within the first week or so of being out. Problem is, these sets usually aren't officially revealed until less than a month from release. For a lot of people that isn't nearly enough time to save up or work your budget around it to get those promotional sets. Even if there aren't any promotions, if you can only afford one or two sets of that size a year its good to know what all your options are to figure out which one's you're going to go for. However, leakers often report on the price and planned release of these sets up to half a year in advance, which gives plenty of time to get the money set aside for the ones you really want.
If Nintendo is trying to fill the schedule after an internal Switch 2 delay, Wind Waker or Twilight Princess HD for this year’s Zelda release might be the easiest to throw together, and would be really hype. Anything bigger than that I’d think they’d want to wait for next gen.
For a long time I've wanted a Zelda game where the fate of the hero falls to a female character but it's not Zelda. It would be a Linkle situation. I mean why not? Unless it's a direct sequel, each Zelda game has a different person as the hero.
PapaGenos, despite being an entertaining RUclips channel, isn't really a reputable source of leaks. He gets stuff wrong more often than not. But I'm interested to see where this goes.
If you want to eat more spinach, try heating some butter up in a pan and then adding spinach and letting it wilt in the butter (not fry), stirring regularly until all the leaves have gone floppy, but the stems aer still a little crunchy. It's super fast to make (5 mins?) and turns an entire pillow-sized bag of Spinach into a little salty side for two people.
That kind of already exists. It’s called Age of Calamity. You can play as Zelda for many of the missions. It’s an alternative universe though where they do manage to defeat Ganondorf. The gameplay is very linear and has basically no puzzles though so it’s most appealing if you like hack and slash style gameplay
Ya know, since the Zelda team always has a goal of at least one game a year, I’ve been thinking a lot about what that game could possibly be this year. I thought that it would probably be a remake or port, considering that TOTK came out just last year, but hey, I’m here for a new game if they’re making one!
Papa Genos is also a RUclipsr. He likes to do predictions, reactions, and analyze leaks. He sometimes gets his own leaks, though they aren't always right. He talks about his sources though and will mention if he feels like they've been off or stuff like that. It would make sense for Zelda to get her own game in the wake of Peach having her own game though, and it may make for a nice June surprise, as well as fill the requirement for the annual Zelda game, technically
The Breath / Tears version of Princess Zelda is pretty popular so I would see using that version of the character being a big seller over if they tried another iteration.
Idk why everyone's hyping up these rumors as if they were leaks. All it does is set people up for disappointment in the end. Not to mention this rumor is coming from someone who has a track record of being wrong most of the time, so there's that.
Even though they have stated they are essentially done with the Breath of the Wild series, a Zelda-led DLC side-quest taking place on the same universe would be an excellent finale for the most-successful branch of the Legend of Zelda franchise

I was watching a video and they started to get on a pretty heavy topic so I shopped around and clicked on this video. It jumped from that video to this video with no delay and that intro was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Arlo!
Cant wait for spinach smoothies in the next Zelda game
UHHH....About that....
Coming back to this video after the Direct is reeeaaaal nice ☺️
Have people still not noticed Arlo's hint in this video? How is it just me? He totally called smoothies in Echoes of Wisdom
Wow, you're right. Either an amazing coincidence or Arlo has sources
That bottom right Zelda looks like she would 100% like to speak to Ganondorf’s manager.
Would that be Demise
😂😂😂
Remember, Aonuma saw the positive reaction to the OG BotW trailer that had people asking "Is that playable Zelda?!"
Zelda being unplayable in TotK was a huge missed opportunity. I would gladly trade The Depths for playable Zelda exploring past Hyrule.
It would've added so much needed _depth_ to the game.
It wasn't a missed opportunity at all. It's a just to appease a vocal minority and it won't improve game sales.

Hear me out: Princess Zelda Showtime, a game aimed EXCLUSIVELY at little kids
it would sell terribly. the kids are too busy playing call of duty, fifa and fortnite, and most of them have never heard of zelda.
@@33LBIt’s a joke.
@@33LBNot necessarily. Parents would decide what game the kids play. Besides how else are the kids gonna hear about Zelda?
@@spiralhalo Many parents are not gamers and simply provide their children with the games they ask for. Children are influenced primarily by other children, not parents, so they play the games that are popular at school. Every child I know owns a PS or XBox and their favourite games are invariably Call of Duty, FIFA, and Fortnite.
@@spiralhalo and sorry, add Minecraft to that list too.
Tears of the Kingdom should’ve had Link thrown to the past and Zelda as the MC, great reason to go back to low hearts and stamina and a new perspective on a rebuilding Hyrule.
At Minimum, we should've had Paper Mario style sections where you play as her.
No, because zelda shouldnt play anything like link and just pasting her over link is stupid.
Or we just get a game that will please most people and stick with Link.
@@Jasonwolf1495 Okay but TotK actually had a whole new gameplay mechanic which could have potentially been Zelda's whole thing. It did also have regular Link stuff but there was definitely more than just regular Link stuff and they could have potentially changed more stuff to differentiate it.
@@Jasonwolf1495 I agree, I would love a dynamic where you use magic as Zelda, and more physical attacks as Sheik
It would be cool to have a switch playing combat style mechanic
They're gonna call it "The Legend of Link"
@@dj.thanatos As soon as I saw her falling down a hole in the trailer I knew 😜
@@dj.thanatos I've said several times, aside from the non-linearity ruining any sense of plot progression, the biggest flaw of the Memory system of storytelling is it just showed me glimpses of a game I'd rather be playing.
Pitches for a few Zelda games:
I bet the footage we're seeing is a hint that Philips CD-I games are coming to Switch Online
Nintendo doesn't even want to acknowledge that those games exist. Lol.
I've been wanting a Zelda centric game since the early days of deviantart where there was a little trend of people making fan-concept art for a fictional Zelda game with Zelda as the protagonist. Irrc a lot of those old designs were like steam punk themed. But i'd take any game. just let me be Zelda!
Aw, heck, that 2nd row, 2nd column pixie cut is extremely cute.
And, yes, I've wanted a Zelda game starring Zelda since roughly Ocarina of Time. That's 26 years.
One day I want to "pretend" to be a leaker. As I definitely do not have inside sources and/or hacked information Nintendo.

fr i would looove an actual, full-length zelda adventure, really hoping we get one. let us save link for once!! have ganon(dorf) realise that these link fellows keep getting in the way of his plans or something
Princess Zelda: Showtime i think
Before TOTK released, I was really hoping Zelda would have been a playable character with Link. We went through all the trouble saving her in BOTW, I was hoping we would PLAY as her or she would accompany link
I like how you had to specify "princess" in the title since it would look quite silly otherwise lol
I'm so happy for your smoothy experience 👍🏻
The whole point of Zelda is Link goes through all trials of the Triforce:
Power - Enemy combat
Wisdom - Dungeon Puzzles
Courage - Actually doing the tasks (Links characteristic)
As far as I can tell the only reason people want Zelda to be playable is to play as a girl.
Who’s here after Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was announced?
Me
Honestly a timeline where the Hero (Link) gets destroyed/captured and Zelda has to save the world herself would be amazing.
I may be the only person in the world that doesn't care to play as Zelda. I enjoy the idea of being the hero that saves her.
The rumors were true! Arlo ate spinach!
a zelda game with zelda as a playable character? take my money!!! been wanting it forever
we love a smoothie
Smoothie time.
Give me a Zelda game in the "spirit" of Spirit Tracks, in the sense that you have control over _both_ Link _and_ Zelda, this time a Zelda who can cast magical spells and use a bow; have her actively work together with Link to defeat the big bad.
The Legend of Link. Starring Zelda as the MC
I am so happy for you, Arlo, that you got to enjoy such a wonderful smoothie.
An avocado is a wonderful addition to any smoothie.
i want the next mainline zelda game to do what cadence of hyrule did and let you choose between playing as link or zelda at the start of the game
A saving Marin from being trapped as a seagull forever game, you say...?
I am very pleased with this rumor, I can't wait for all the cool art people will make for a Zelda focused title
Agree!!
THIS AGED PHENOMENALLY
I'm glad your smoothie was great.
Edit: Now related to the video; I would like to have Zelda in her own game, but I think for it to work it will have to be a Zelda we don't know. Most Zelda games have a new Zelda, new Link, but not always a new Ganondorf. I don't know how you can fit Zelda in with the story of the franchise, but I would still like to see something like this.
It would be cool to have a game starring Zelda in the TOTK cannon where you play through the events of her travelling back to the past. Sort of like Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity but not a warriors game.
And now I want a smoothie. Thank you, Arlo.
Very easy title “the missing link”. If they don’t use that title they are fucking up big time.
ooh fun idea!!
Finally, The Legend of Link.
A smoothie you say???
Papagenos is not a leaker. He discusses leaks, rumors and news.
PapaGenos, despite being an entertaining RUclips channel, isn't really a reputable source of leaks. He gets stuff wrong more often than not. But I'm interested to see where this goes.
Hot take I wish leaks never existed. I’m good to wait for each project as they come without little hints or rumors
A BotW prequel during the war against the calamity would be a fun Zelda spinoff.
I’m into that super short cut, so cute
I love the dichotomy of him talking about outsourcing Zelda to another studio while showing a Zelda playable CD-i game on screen.
Princess Zelda: Showtime 😲
The Breath / Tears version of Princess Zelda is pretty popular so I would see using that version of the character being a big seller over if they tried another iteration.
Idk why everyone's hyping up these rumors as if they were leaks. All it does is set people up for disappointment in the end.
Not to mention this rumor is coming from someone who has a track record of being wrong most of the time, so there's that.
My love for Arlo content is greater than my hate for leaks 😂
Glad you had a great smoothie, also yeah spinach doesn’t mess up the taste for me at all, I really like smoothies :D
There's something about the combination of the CD-i game with the Wind Waker soundtrack that really works. Weird.
A moment of appreciation for pixie-cut short-haired Zelda.
The Legend of Link - The Adventure of Zelda
Thanks for the idea on how to use my super huge bag of spinach that is going bad.
Even though they have stated they are essentially done with the Breath of the Wild series, a Zelda-led DLC side-quest taking place on the same universe would be an excellent finale for the most-successful branch of the Legend of Zelda franchise
