Hey there Matt and Canva crew. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this much hoped for video for the POD community. Many of the RUclips POD influencers have done their best to try and give their two cents on how to use Canva legally for print-on-demand, but it is sooooooo relieving to finally have an actual Canva produced video that gives the official nod on POD. This video is both simple but comprehensive enough to get the essence of how to responsibly use Canva for POD, and will certainly benefit those who find reviewing the Canva terms confusing. Most importantly, if there are any doubts as to whether or not print-on-demand is permitted by Canva, then this video gives a confident thumbs up, and will neutralize a lot of the speculation out there. So... great job guys! I understand that the POD creatives who use Canva are just a small portion of the varied and expansive types of Canvas users, but thank you for taking the time and consideration to attend to this little subset of your user base. Shout out to POD4Life (even if she might be an AI lol), and nice sticker designs too, Matt - you might want to start your own POD store in the basketball niche 😁 Thanks once again for producing this... and Keep on Keeping on, Canva!
Zim ie, thank you for such a lovely comment ❤ We told Matt, and we swear he got a little teary 🥲 He's such a softy. We really do care about all of our communities and want to make it as clear as possible. And we appreciate that people want more clarification and take the time to ask questions. Thanks again 🙏 ^ml
Sorry to burst your bubble, but what they said in this video indirectly is that you can not use any of the Canva elements, free or pro in your commercial designs. Only private. The overlapping requirement makes no sense since you can't always overlap something with anything and make it look good. Bottom line, Canva should only be used as editing tool. The graphic elements and photos should be avoided 100%. 05:50 design used as a showcase speaks volume of how unrealistic it is.
@@canva Hey again Canva. Hehe, glad I could make Matt teary. Who would’ve thought that basketball stickers and copyright banter could be so emotional, LOL. But I totally get it… Canva serves a lot of different creative and entrepreneurial communities, and the platform wasn’t originally designed with POD in mind. So, the fact that you guys are making the effort to accommodate the POD community - particularly it’s concerns around legal use - is a baby step forward in the “copyright direction” (do you see what I did there 😁). But seriously though, thank you once again for finally producing this video. It’s not a substitute for individuals researching the legal specificity of their own ventures, but it is an answer to the speculative question circulating for some time in the POD community: is Canva allowed for print-on-demand? This video essentially gives a definitive and official: “yes… however…” The “however” is still the individual users responsibility to research and tailor to their situation, to which Matts recommendation to seek legal advice and reach out to support when in doubt is the way to go if anyone is serious about a commercial venture. But the “yes” puts an end to all the unofficial claims out there that misguidedly state that Canva can’t be used for POD at all. I feel a lot of the POD community was yearning for more reciprocation from Canva. So thanks again guys… hope you can do more POD videos in the future of the Brand New Era. Shout out to all the Good Humans out there! Peace out ✌
@@TheSmokyMountainFlowerFarmer People are losing their accounts, and you can't open another one once you are banned, all because of "wrong" usage of Canva elements. Canva giving this vague replies "original enough" and "overlap it somehow" is causing people to risk their income using Canva elements. It is just facts, supported with evidence.
I’m a relatively new Pro user, to Canva. So far, I had only dabbled with a few features…until recently, when a dear friend asked me to make a memorial video for her mother. At first, I wasn’t sure where to start, or wasn’t even sure what app to use. I decided to open up Canva and all of the uncertainty went away! Canva made my video creation a breeze and my friend loves the results! Thank you, Canva!
It is not being lazy or cheat to use premade graphics. That is how artists make money, by creating cliparts for designers and nondesigners to use them in their projects.
Thank you so much for this video. It has clarified so much for me. I already know we’re not allowed to use a design by itself on our creations or items that we want to sell, such as T-shirts. It has to be our own original design that we create from Canva’s elements, not just changing colors or adding a border. Well done on this video! I’ve been with Canva since the early days and love what it has become today!
Glad you've learned lots of insights from this, team! 💝 Your Canva-mazing feedback keeps us inspired in empowering the world to design. We #CanvaLove you! 💗 ^aj

I have a question! As a Canva pro user, if I design a t-shirt using Canva elements and add my own puns or taglines, would it be considered my legal creation, or would it still infringe on Canva's copyright?
@@paramjeetsingh3510 What I understand from the video is you need ads a few, at least 6-7 different element, including your pun, into a design, to consider it unique or made by your own. IMO
Hello Canva Team! Thank you for putting this video together and sharing it with your community. I am absolutely glad that your team exists since visual design had been a handicap of mine. Still is, but it’s getting better. I have read and listened to a few messages that attempt to clarify all the ways the licensing terms can and should be adhered to. The question I have to ask is at when would an end user discover they’re in violation? That’s not the aim at all, but I don’t think users should find out at the point of printing or distribution. Eager to read your feedback. Thanks!
Hi Matt - Can you please clarify the content licensing terms around the Canva logo? ie. Can the element "Made in Canva" be placed on a POD product? If not, where can these elements be used? Many thanks.
Just to clarify, KDP requires that you check the box declaring that you own full COPYRIGHTS to your book, not license use rights which is what you have when using Canva elements.
@@PamBrossmanChannel Thank you, Pam. I've hunted around Canva and through my acct details, but could only find a help centre button. After I posted my question, the system came back with, 'No answer'
Hey@@wendymareego to this link: bit.ly/3u84Wax and hit the continue button at the bottom. Here you can ask your question and even upload an example. Then someone from our team will get back to you and assist. From what you've said, if you think it looks completely different you're going to be fine. It doesn't sound like a standalone situation at all. ^ml
KDP is not asking copyright but copyright licence and those two things are not the same. You can't use any Canva elements free or pro because they or their legal team doesn't distinguish between copyright and copyright licence. No author on th planet has copyright over everything inside the book. That would mean authors have to make their own fonts to write book. KDP is asking for licence. Since Canva is not aware of that, do not use ANY Canva elements in your books.
I have a question please! I want to make a journal to sell on KDP/Amazon, and I am going to do it all my own images and design. I want to produce this through Canva. What happens to my design that I upload into canva to make it? Can people take it and use it? Does it fall under your other rules and protects my design in your design software? I am one of these people who really wants the whole thing to be my design. I am a pro subscriber. The jist I get, learn your lesson and do it all on your own design and works. I dont want to infringe on anyones art or things they have made. So what happens to my journal that I upload in your program to then sell on amazon or whereever. It gets saved right? Into your program? Basically, will my design be protected under all these terms you have described? I guess I am worried about making it all my own, from the beginning to the end, and then it gets dispersed everywhere without my knowledge etc. Is there a way to make it in your program and keep it hidden or does it get logged into the templates, graphics etc. and then anyone can use it, edit it? Hope I am clear in what I am asking. Ty so much for all the informative videos and really a great program.
Thank you for confirming what I knew about using Canva clipart and fonts. What is still murky is where do POD sellers have any recourse if their design has been stolen. Since we are not the originators of the work does this mean we can not file to have stolen work removed from other Etsy shops? If we cannot protect our work from being stolen then Canava is not the tool to use to create POD products.
This was a great video and made me feel so much better! I'm so new with all of this. As a matter of fact I had a design that after watching this, I felt I didn't add enough to the content & I deleted immediately! Thank you so much!
I don't use canva for pod but for my own business. We print everything ourselves. from tshirts to mug, coasters, tumblers etc. Do we have to follow pod guidelines? We pay for pro. thanks Hazel
6:08 That's something I struggle with. If I use an element and add some text to it, I feel like I made a creative effort, but maybe Canva disagrees because I only used 1 element. If I use one element 2 times (let's say I have an element and the same element mirrored), same thing. I don't really know how strict the standards are in this. How can I know for sure I can use it? How much needs to be added to an element for it not to be standalone? Is just text standalone?
I was wondering the same thing, because my designs are very modern/simple/clean with white backgrounds, a watercolor element, and text. Did you ever try to contact support on this?
Hey Matt and Canva crew. One question, I haven't found an answer to yet: If I have a pro account, I use pro elements for my blog, which is monetized. What happens, if i cancel my canva pro account? Will the license still be valid or do I lose the right to the image?
Thanks for this helpful video! What if I only use text in my design. Can I use any font from Canva for that? So for example select a suitable font, maybe find out a good color and use it for a statement-t-shirt?
If I write a book in Canva and use some element files (small, in a corner-don’t know pixels, is not a photo but a watercolor illustration) as is but on a page with my unique writing, is this permissible? For example, there’s a full page of writing in two columns and a watercolor image of a sun from Canva in a corner of the page at the top or bottom of one column. Is this ok? Do the words on the page make it mine? Or do I need to type or decorate on top of that sun to “make it mine”? Thanks!
While this video was excellent in explaining the rules, I have to say I will very likely be switching over to Kittl sonIndont have to constantly stress about all the rules. I wish Canva would just charge us more and include the licenses to use for print on demand. If Kittl is doing it, then Canva could as well. I LOVE Canva and will be sad to leave:/
I have a question now. I am using the free version of Canvas. I want to design a t-shirt and download it after design is done but it will appear in the background. I can remove the background from an external app. You do not mind and feel that it is against your rights and theft. I do not waste your designs, but the background does not have a watermark, and I did not read anything about it, but there are people who tell me that the design is mine and that I can remove the background at a time that suits me from an external application, and I want to know if this is allowed or not, and mention a reason?
Can I make my free design of free stuff to print t-shirts and stuff and upload it in the background and remove it externally? Because it wasn't just stolen or did something against rights?
I am still ‘confuddled’ @canva but love the videos. Scenario: I have bought a PLR Canva planner template, but I like some of the productivity and diary layout design pages and tables in Canva - if I use some, change the colours and font - can I include them in my pdf to sell on Etsy?
I have a question about creating printable resources to sell on TPT (Teachers Pay Teachers). Am I correct in understanding that if the design is original and I am not using any standalone elements (unless within the pixel limit), then it is legal to create and sell these resources for teachers to purchase and print, whether or not it includes free and/or pro content? Some examples would be a game board, worksheet, or classroom decor.
Hi Matt, This is so enlightening, it's something I never even thought of. My question is if I create a simple logo using my own uploaded font and a shape from Canva, is that enough to be unique?
Great video. Thank you. But can you do more explaining around the creating and selling Pro Template like a wedding invite can only be canva links and The e-book content is not a template cannot be downloaded and used in another software program. I didn't understand that area of the explanation, at all.

One more question let's say I want to create a minimalist design so I have selected a photo change it colour to black &white and added text so I can call it my own design or it still called canva design???
Hello Matt, thank you for the great presentation. I do have one question. I could not find "Text to Image" under apps. I am new to Canva and using free version. Thanks!
You should be able to find it in the elements tab now under AI Image Generator?Magic Media. You can find more info here: www.canva.com/ai-image-generator/
Matt, thanks for trying to explain things so succinctly. It is appreciated. I did have a couple of questions regarding use of Canva in publishing (copyright questions). Is there a way to find out which Canva fonts I'm able to use when publishing to KDP? I can use the fonts, correct? Also, can I use Canva's "background colors, shapes, and frames" with my illustrations to publish to KDP? I want to make sure I do things the legal/correct way to maintain copyright of my own material and not infringe on anyone else's copyright, before publishing on KDP. Thanks so much for your help, and thanks again for doing these videos.
I was told by support if we need the sub-license we can't use canva assets. Is this correct because a lot of companies require the sub-license... please let me know as support have been ignoring me for months now.

Hi Matt and Canva. Great video!. I am still confused on the standalone and stock media. If I am making printable download cards is okay to do one element picture with words/ text only? Is okay to do two elements of the same pictures and words / text only? Is okay to do a blank white background with just words/ text NO element picture? Is there any way I can submit samples of my cards to Canva to know if they are okay?
I was wondering the same thing, because my designs are very modern/simple/clean with white backgrounds, a watercolor element, and text. Did you ever try to contact support on this?
Hello! How about using canva recipe templates - means using my own images and texts , but the layout, fonts and graphics such as fork and knife or time indicators stay canva designed - for a cookbook published PoD? Could you pls specify the limits in this case? Thanks!
What about with mockups through POD? For the t-shirt mockup I notice there's a one design use license. Does that mean I can only use each particular mockup photo, ever? So, if I have 20 t-shirt designs, would I only be allowed to use it for one of those?
I've used part of a Canva template, not the text or bg, with my own embellishments, plus another Canva element. I want to use this design for a KDP book cover for ebook, print and hardcover versions. I've given co-creating credit to the artist/designer of the template and Canva. But have I done enough? You suggested, Matt, that we drop Canva a line if we have more questions. I couldn't locate an email addie anywhere here. is it going to be like hunting through a haystack on Canva? Could you please add an email contact to this page. Great vid, BTW. thanks. An Aussie company? EDIT: I can't find any contact info on Canva, just a help centre button which opened a question box that after I filled in came back with 'no answer'.

Thank you so much for finally clarifying this. I was very confused with all the external "helpers" interpretations of these rules. Being very new to POD I don’t want to have to worry about if I’ve interpreted the terms correctly for elements used from numerous places. I already have so much to learn,, I like using Canva because I can do most of what I need within it alone. I want to eventually draw everything myself but it can take me a while to do as I am out of practice and am teaching myself how to work digitally. I can still create my ideas well with the quality of graphics that are offered in Canva. Honestly I usually prefer the elements in Canva too! I would like a explanation on fonts too. Are ALL of those ok to use with a pro account? Especially in a text only design?
Hey there! Yes, fonts are okay to use as well. If you still need help with this, feel free to message us at bit.ly/3Hg33ib so we can look into it. Thanks! ^jm
It is time to swap. No one can legally now upload to KDP as Amazon asks whether we own the copyrights. According to Canva rules if we use any elements of theirs then we don’t own the copyrights of the book we create.
I think Amazon KDP makes you click that you own the copyrights. If so, I don’t understand how I can use any pages using Canva graphics to publish with KDP. ??? So I still feel confused. Please help. Im ready to publish.
If you are designing your own coloring book using canva images, can you have a stock photo as the only element on one page since your overall coloring book is the unique design, or does every page have to be unique aka can't feature a single stock photo?
Does this only relate to products you profit from? For example, if you want to make a flyer for an event do you still have to heavily edit the images etc? As no profit is being generated from using the design as the flyer is free....
So if I have a book that I have created and added some elements (free) from Canva and texts then I can’t put it on KDP as KDP specifically asks whether I own the copyrights.
I am confused. I am a Canva Pro user. If I use a canva pro-template for a poster and I modify it and add a quote to it, to sell as a POD poster on Fine Art America or as a Printable poster on Etsy , is that ok
Two question please: Is it allowed to download Free Content only, edit them and add my own drawings to them using another software application to design a greeting card and sell it in PDF format to my customers so that they print it at home without editing it? Is it allowed to download a mix of Free and Pro elements, edit them and add my own drawings to them using another software application to design a greeting card and sell it in PDF format to my customers so that they print it at home without editing it?
I need to know if I can create book cover files to sell to other authors so they can publish their books with that design. I only use free content and always include information on where the fonts or extra elements come from so they can read up on the licensing, too.
I'm creating a colouring book to publish in Amazon KDP, I have used pro version designs, pasting an image at the centre then other images or the same cropped image around the main image and adding a quote. I was planning to mention the Canva copyright and the name of the designers of the outlined graphics that I'm using - would that still be an infringement of copyrights?
This video needs to be updated with all the new Magic Edit Tools and new AI Tools that would be great. Especially now that we have the Glow Up version of Canva and so much has changed with hundreds of apps now part of the platform.
I understand that I need to combine elements to sell on my POD, but can I add my trademark name on my products that I am planning on selling while using canvas elements?
Hi Matt, Thanks in advance for your time & support. I have some doubts about licensing. Can u please make it clear? Q: Can I use pro elements (icons & images) for making a food menu / invitations & rollup for my client? please help me. Bit confuzed about that. Have a good day :)
Thank you very much for this video Matt and team - found it extremely helpful as there are a lot of conflicting information out there regarding canva use for printables and templates. However can I just clarify or double check a few points? 1. Can you use both Free and/or Pro content in commercial use Printables and Templates, as long as it is not standalone and the template is in Canva? 2. At the 12:00 mark Matt mentions you can use Pro content in unedited format ( i.e. standalone?) in electronic publications... is this only for e-books and why would this be different than for commercial templates and printables? 3. If I create a template to sell in Canva with Pro elements can I export it as a flattened PNG and reupload so that the final template it is uneditable (if for instance only the text should be editable, not the images, can I flatten the images?) Thanks very much for all your help!
I wish they would answer these questions. I got no clear answer when contacting customer support. It's frustrating when they just link to the information already available. Clearly if we understood that fully, we wouldn't have additional questions.
First: thanks for a great video. My question is: as it focuses entirely on “selling”, what if someone doesn’t want to monetize the designs but just give it away for free? Do the same rules apply?
@@canva Thx! Actually I meant situation where someone wants to use unaltered Pro (graphics) and print out t-shirts for free giveaway (= without intention to monetize it). Is that ok or same rules (original design) apply?
Hi. I appreciate your video. I do have a question though. What about the different types of fonts available on Canva? Can they be used freely in books published on Amazon KDP?
I have some design in my website , I’ve been canva pro for yrs so I don’t remember which ones I created or I just got from canva direct, but most of them I’m sure I created them, is there a way to know if they not legal
I think this terrible 😔 license agreement if can't use graphic in our design from liabry.. what is useful of pro subscription? I think it's better to start using another website to do our design
Thank you for this video! Helps a lot! Can I edit templates in Canva for commercial use in KDP’s such as children story books, daily planners, and maybe even physical notebooks etc.? Can I use free edited templates to help create my own brand of online and offline books, notebooks etc.? Would love to hear from you guys.
Hi Canva and Matt! I have a unique scenario that wasn’t covered in this video, which by the way was excellent information thank you so much. I am creating a low content book (journal). On one of my journal pages, I have graphic elements used creatively together to create a unique design with the exception of one element that was not technically modified, but the other elements have been modified as you showed in your examples in this video. With that being said, would that one element that was not modified on that same page be considered a “standalone” element even though it’s technically on top of a background element and surrounded by other modified elements on that page to create an overall unique page design? If possible I would love to show this to a Canva support rep if possible to confirm if my page is acceptable and not violating any Canva terms. Your help is greatly appreciated. I need to confirm if the page is okay as a whole or if I need to still modify that one unmodified element on that page.
I am currently user of canva pro, the images that are not pro, which are completely free? can be used if I add texts to sell t-shirts, mugs and other products?
can i use multiple pro elements from Canva Pro as a Canva Pro subscriber to create my design for POD mug, i recently got notified by Printfy that couple of my mugs are IP reported and I can't figure out why.
Alright, so basically I just need to add a few element into a design, and what I saw is at least 6 -7 element minimum to call it my unique design. More is better. Am I right ?

@@canvaYes. But Canva won’t give the copyrights so if a book was edited with Canva, using any elements or fonts then we lose our copy rights over the book therefore we can’t publish through KDP.
Hello there, so please for an animal coloring book for kids made through Canva, if I use an element (say an animal), and put a single line of text under (say the animal's name), is this original to be used for KDP, because a coloring book for kids is meant to be simple enough and not complicated with elements. Will this be considered original?
I would be very interested in that answer as well about fonts. Especially free fonts. I have a pro account but am so nervous about using anything on Canva, especially for KDP
I don’t think so as KDP asks whether we own the copyrights. If you used any Canva elements then you don’t own the copyrights just the rights to use. The problem is that KDP specifically asking whether you own the rights.
Hi, I'm a subscriber and using the video clips for creating my RUclips videos. I am getting mixed information about whether or not it's ok to monetize on RUclips. Also have heard recently RUclips declining monetization with Canvas use. Can you please clarify. Thank you.

Makes sense. I make shower curtains and was hoping seamless patterns would be allowed but I get its not. Off to learn how to make seamless patterns now.
Hi, i'm still confused whether or not i can use free elements combined to make a design for a book cover on KDP? I have watched several videos on this but am still not sure as regards to copyright button on the listing. Thank you
We don’t own the copyrights on anyhing we created in Canva using any of their designs, photos. So… KDP wants us to own the rights. It is time to find an alternative to Canva.
Aug 2024. For those tagging me I have just sent another question to get clarification from Amazon KDP. If they say 'no' to elements and free or pro Canva images I will let you know. The only solution would be to create your own AI Art images which is what I have been doing. If you DO have existing books that may have Canva Pro or Free images or elements or even any other platform like Creative Fabrica you may have to update your books with AI Images to be compliant with the 'must own publishing rights' KDP rules. As soon as I hear back as to whether " I own the copyright and I hold necessary publishing rights" means you can use licensed images as Canva mentions in the video above, I will let you know. 99% of books uploaded to KDP would have no idea that " I own the copyright and I hold necessary publishing rights" does not mean 'license' to use. So if KDP say NO there are a LOOOOOOT of people who will need to update their books with their OWN images or AI Art to be compliant.
Watched 2 videos of them on licence and it feels like still they themselves aren't sure about it. Dont get me wrong. They are extremely helpful but confusing. A design could be unique to me , the creator and could be violation in Canva's POV. There is no telling. Also they talked about ebooks, printables but what about other digital products like planners , journals??? These aren't templates neither they are kdp or PODs. If I export my design ( which contains pro elements) into pdf which is in non editorial form, am i allowed to sell them ?
so this was a good video, but I need further clarification. I create verseart for our ministry and we sell the digital download. We are a large PRO account with over 10 people. I take a graphic of a leaf and resize or recolor it and add it as a background with a bible verse on top. What all do I need to do to the graphic to make it so we are legally compliant?
Also you did not mention KDP publishing and whether we can use Canva anything on that platform. This is the box you must tick when you upload a book be digital or print on demand " Choose this option if your book is under copyright and you hold the necessary rights for the content being published." Does the words 'You Hold Necessary Rights For Content Being Published' Mean that Canva has given us license to use these in our books. Or does hundreds of millions of Canva users have to remove all their books? I have sent this question directly to Canva legal as it impacts hundreds of thousands of people so an answer to how the Canva Usage License Agreement impacts KDP publishers would be really helpful thank you.
Hi Pam, here to help! Can you please share your ticket ID so we can look into this for you? We're keen to give you more details about this over email. 😊 ^cv
@@canva I got a reply and they said it was an Amazon not a Canva decision. So waiting to hear back from Amazon. Their first reply did not make any sense they were treating Canva like 'public domain' content.
You can use Canva as editing tool. Do not use any of the graphic elements, free or pro. This is not Amazon KDP. This is Canva confusing Copyright with Copyright licence. Two very different terms. KDP is asking for copyright licence. Meaning entire book as a unit is your creation, not each individual element.
It has changed so much in the last 6 mths my rules is always go direct to the source and ask either Amazon or Canva because then you have it in writing @@lpow08243
Can you make another video and show one or more examples of footage? What you need to change in the video to sell it as your own video, and what else is possible to change in the video.
Hi there! Yes, of course. You could use all of the Pro and Free templates, media, and elements that we have in our library both for commercial and non-commercial purposes, just as long as you use them in a design first, and that you add all of your personal modifications through our platform instead of through any third-party websites. You're not permitted to download and / or use anything from our library on a stand-alone basis. Feel free to take a look at this link to know more: www.canva.com/licensing-explained/. Hope this clears things up for you! 😊 ^gv
They literally showed in video you can't use element as standalone, and you are clearly asking about using money icon as standalone element with changed color and in the video they stated it is not allowed, but in reply, they say it is allowed.
@@MarinaArtDesign No they didn't. read the answer and question again. You CAN use standalone as part of your own design. A book cover will have elements of its own design. Therefore you can use the icon as part of that design.
Hi, I wonder if you can help me with the following: I've been advised by an IP lawyer, that it's not legal to use assets that are covered by other's trade-marks. For example photos of Barbie, Lego, logos of Lego, logos of Ferrari on the car... and even Olympic circles (depicted both on the photo or as a graphic element). Now, each of the above-mentioned elements is available in Canva, sometimes in relatively many instances. And each is covered by the Canva licence (either Free or Pro, for personal and commercial use). Assuming the usage of the picture is part of the design and the picture does not endorse anyone's business or does not present content in a negative light. The question is: is this really ok to use? - If yes and it still comes to the legal conflict -- who is liable? Canva user or Canva? - If not, what is the advised best practice? thanks.
It’s so difficult to get help, every person tells you a different thing. I tried to use the website feature and it kept crashing after follow all the mangled up instructions they provide and getting GoDaddy reps to help. It just about ruined my new business, the help I received was pretty much useless, had to start all over with a reliable web host. Sorry Canva I like your design tool but now I’m afraid to use anything you offer even if it won’t be used commercially. Customer service needs an overhaul. Maybe do a video on each item. Thanks for trying, better late than never.
What happens when I - 1) Take a graphic of a cat and change its colour. 2) Write one half of a joke above it. 3) The other half below it. Have I done enough?
Do you have to be this good? I'm wondering how I can make a perfect design like the sample designs in the video content. I want to be a designer like that too.
Hi, could you please clarify of it is ok to sell finished digital products such a tumbler wraps, or sublimation images, that have been flattened? Can these finished digital products include both pro and free elements? Can the client (exaple my client) use them for commercial purposes and on print on demand products? Thanks in advance
Hello there! Yes, you may definitely use and sell the designs you created. Kindly make sure to read through: www.canva.com/help/licenses-copyright-legal-commercial-use to make sure you meet all the terms and condition. Hope this helps! ^nc
@@canva thank you. I'm aware of the terms and conditions and section 5 in particular. However it is all very unclear to me. My design would be a flattened image in png file format (or svg BUT flattened prior so no elements can be extracted) that my client would be purchasing on Etsy via instant download (not a Canva link). The design would include my own elements+canva pro elements+canva free elements+canva fonts (or a combination of some of what mentione)..... am I allowed to sell this design? And is my client allowed to use them for commercial purposes on Physical items only? Thanks for helping me with this

@@MarinaArtDesign You are literally just going through all the comments and leaving trash.
Synopsis: Take inspiration. Be original. Don’t be lazy and cheat. Got it! 🙏🏼

IMO
Thank you very much for clarifying this (and for doing it in an engaging way). You definitely know how to speak to creative types.
He basically said it is OK to use free elements if you stack them up. You can't use PRO elements.
What do you mean you can't use pro elements? He didn't say that
Hello Canva Team! Thanks!
It makes sense BUT I also feel I need to NOT use anything... for fear of infringement!!!! SO many "if" or "possibly"..... oh my!
Just sent this question to Canva support to get a definitive answer.
Oh no! I've spent about 6 months reworking a Canva design. I think it now looks almost completely different. I need expert advice.
Thank you!! Canva Pro is absolutely the best tool for everything graphic!!
Awesome! This is the video I was looking for to get a better clarification on the terms and conditions of using Canva.
Thank you so much for this! It is super helpful, very simple and clear explanation with examples.
We pay for pro.
thanks

Scenario:
I have bought a PLR Canva planner template, but I like some of the productivity and diary layout design pages and tables in Canva - if I use some, change the colours and font - can I include them in my pdf to sell on Etsy?
I have a question about creating printable resources to sell on TPT (Teachers Pay Teachers). Am I correct in understanding that if the design is original and I am not using any standalone elements (unless within the pixel limit), then it is legal to create and sell these resources for teachers to purchase and print, whether or not it includes free and/or pro content? Some examples would be a game board, worksheet, or classroom decor.
You are correct!
Yes sir it has just helped cleared my confusion. I greet you CANVA TEAM!
Always here for our amazing users, Michelle! We got you. 😉 ^nm

Yes these are ok to use with KDP!
Can I use a template from Canva book covers for my father's book or what can I not use?
I was told by support if we need the sub-license we can't use canva assets. Is this correct because a lot of companies require the sub-license... please let me know as support have been ignoring me for months now.
Still don't understand if I can make printable planners and sell them on Etsy? Can I? Or not?

You shouldn't use free or pro elements. If you import your own graphics then yes, you can use Canva as a editing tool.
Hey Matt, thanks it's pretty clear now ❤
I've used part of a Canva template, not the text or bg, with my own embellishments, plus another Canva element.

Thanks! ^jm
Way too many restrictions. I’m saying this as a Canva Pro member, Kittl will overtake y’all if you don’t loosen up.
It is time to swap. No one can legally now upload to KDP as Amazon asks whether we own the copyrights. According to Canva rules if we use any elements of theirs then we don’t own the copyrights of the book we create.
Does the ‘different in 3 different ways’ rule of thumb apply here? Eg 1) change colour 2) add a second image 3) add or change text
Best video ever!!! Thank you so much for making this one!!
Yay! Looking forward to more designs with you. 🤩 ^ss
I think Amazon KDP makes you click that you own the copyrights. If so, I don’t understand how I can use any pages using Canva graphics to publish with KDP. ??? So I still feel confused. Please help. Im ready to publish.
It is clear I think. We can’t use Canva to create anything for KDP
If we have created ourbown design etc. When an external pod platform asks if we have the copyright what would the case be?
I am confused. I am a Canva Pro user. If I use a canva pro-template for a poster and I modify it and add a quote to it, to sell as a POD poster on Fine Art America or as a Printable poster on Etsy , is that ok
Two question please:
Is it allowed to download Free Content only, edit them and add my own drawings to them using another software application to design a greeting card and sell it in PDF format to my customers so that they print it at home without editing it?
Great video! Clarified so much I didn't understand. Thanks!
3. If I create a template to sell in Canva with Pro elements can I export it as a flattened PNG and reupload so that the final template it is uneditable (if for instance only the text should be editable, not the images, can I flatten the images?)
Thanks very much for all your help!
Yes I would also like to know this??
I wish they would answer these questions. I got no clear answer when contacting customer support. It's frustrating when they just link to the information already available. Clearly if we understood that fully, we wouldn't have additional questions.
Thanks... understand it much better now
First: thanks for a great video.
My question is: as it focuses entirely on “selling”, what if someone doesn’t want to monetize the designs but just give it away for free? Do the same rules apply?
Hey David! This will be considered as just sharing a design. If you have further questions, feel free to message us at bit.ly/3Hg33ib. Thanks! ^jm

Hi. I appreciate your video. I do have a question though. What about the different types of fonts available on Canva? Can they be used freely in books published on Amazon KDP?
Only free fonts, avoid using pro.

You can't use them "stand alone".
Hello if I add my own photos to an existing background on Canva with some texts to it. Can I use it?
Thank you for this video! Helps a lot! Can I edit templates in Canva for commercial use in KDP’s such as children story books, daily planners, and maybe even physical notebooks etc.? Can I use free edited templates to help create my own brand of online and offline books, notebooks etc.? Would love to hear from you guys.
No. According to KDP rules. If you use any elements to create the end product from Canva then you don’t own the copyrights for the end product.
Excellent video. Thanks a lot.
Can I use a royalty free image from elsewhere and work with on the canva workspace? Would I be infringing on Canva's copyright law?
I am currently user of canva pro, the images that are not pro, which are completely free? can be used if I add texts to sell t-shirts, mugs and other products?

Will this be considered original?
I wanted to know about Text to image creations, that if we can use it for commercial use. Thanks for clearing it out
I would be very interested in that answer as well about fonts. Especially free fonts. I have a pro account but am so nervous about using anything on Canva, especially for KDP
@@lynnjacobs8554 So am I. Now we can ask them if we have any doubt. on the link mentioned in the video

I don’t think so as KDP asks whether we own the copyrights. If you used any Canva elements then you don’t own the copyrights just the rights to use. The problem is that KDP specifically asking whether you own the rights.

So happy this has been helpful for you, Ja! 😊 ^ep
Hi Matt
Great video, very informative
Just to be clear,
I have made a logo using a Canva template
Turned it 90°
added a background colour, my name my intials and my own "motto"
Is this now my own personal copyrighted ©️ logo ?
Or does it still belong to Canva ?

Makes sense. I make shower curtains and was hoping seamless patterns would be allowed but I get its not. Off to learn how to make seamless patterns now.
Appreciate your feedback, Kat! We'll make sure to add seamless patterns to our roadmap. Thanks! ^nc
Thank you. This was very helpful.
What is the rule of using word art?
Thanks Matt! Great info....😉
Thanks Matt, it was very useful but what about the fonts. Can we use them i POD? If my design consists only of letters can I sell it?
Use only fonts that are free and you are good. But avoid using any element since it is pointless to risk your business.

That would be fine since you used multiple elements to create the design.
Also you did not mention KDP publishing and whether we can use Canva anything on that platform.
This is the box you must tick when you upload a book be digital or print on demand
" Choose this option if your book is under copyright and you hold the necessary rights for the content being published."
Does the words 'You Hold Necessary Rights For Content Being Published'
Mean that Canva has given us license to use these in our books.
@pambrossmanchannel Did you happen to ever get a definitive response from Amazon?
It has changed so much in the last 6 mths my rules is always go direct to the source and ask either Amazon or Canva because then you have it in writing @@lpow08243
Thanks Matt!
Great video !!!
Can you make another video and show one or more examples of footage? What you need to change in the video to sell it as your own video, and what else is possible to change in the video.
Canva I have a question, can I use an money icon on my book cover but changing the color of the icon
Combining multiple contributors' elements into a new design. Does the design then become our work?@@cerianpostle
Hi, I wonder if you can help me with the following:
I've been advised by an IP lawyer, that it's not legal to use assets that are covered by other's trade-marks.
What happens when I -
1) Take a graphic of a cat and change its colour.
