Thanks John, I am so encouraged by your raw and honest discussions about mental health. I finally decided to face up to my stress and anxiety getting signed off work last Friday. I have been given meds but holding off as worried about side effects stopping me driving. Will start next week after going to play golf with my 86 year-old dad in Bristol - I live in Kent! I will be channeling my inner Big O to get through this. Thanks for being there for all of us.

Well done superb video, came to your channel through wayne dewey, when you guys played at St Mellion. You guys who do these RUclips videos, don't know, I think how important they are, I often golf alone, practice but more for mental health reasons. I have an autistic10 year old son, disabled partner (serious car accident) and highly anxious 13 year old daughter. Your videos along with real golf, golfmates etc remind us of the golf community out there. Playing golf on my own is my going to church, phone off, no communication, just me a ball, a field with a flag. Golf days you guys set up (I know the real golf day is cancelled but I still paid and am going to play with Wayne really looking forward to it) are a chance for that community to engage with each other. You guys who put yourselves out there week in week out provide that platform. You should be proud of yourself. 👏

    Well done John.
To talk about your issues ad play golf is never easy. But you're never on your own 5000 subscribers like, love and care about you. If ever you want to talk I am here for you.
Just like your golf, take it one hole at a time, try to forget the bad bits, remember the good ones and keep moving forward.
    Stay safe and thanks

Keep up bringing your content to us John. I think your helping not only yourself but all of us who struggle with mental health issues.
The fresh air and solitude have great benefits sometimes, but we also need the love and support from our loved ones. We will overcome and embrace our fallible times.

The healthiest place I can be mentally is out on the golf course. I can work out in 4 hours all my problems. Golf is so much like life. I little bit of luck every now and then and then a bit of dissapointment when you least expected it. But you get out of it what you put into it. Effort and trying is rewarded, maybe not today bit down the line somewhere. I talk to the trees and tell them what's on my mind, it generally sorts me out before the end of a round.

As someone who has never felt able to talk about it, it really does help to hear others talk about it so it is appreciated.
Sending you my best wishes and hope you find yourself in a better place mentally soon John.

Firstly, Stay strong 💪 mate !
I've always admired your honesty when it comes to talking about your mental health problems.
We need to get away from this perception that men shouldn't have feelings or be able to discuss them.
I have lost three people I knew well in the last 10 years.
All hadi decent jobs, accommodation, cars etc.
All of them appeared to be OK
All of them were in their 30's and had their lives in front of them.
We have to keep talking and supporting!

Bravo John on being so open and honest, to many of us try to hide away when the chips are down and not talking about how we are feeling, being out in the open air is one of the best remedies and playing golf is an added benefit, when I was working (now retired) and things were getting tough it was my go to place where i could just chill out also my wife would get us out for walks and not sit at home and fester...
Also John along with your wife, you have a really good bunch of friends around you, which is brilliant who are looking out for you 😀 .
Onwards to the next vlog on your Cornish quest 👍

Ok so this was probably the most difficult of days to be filming. I’m so proud of you and your efforts to hold this together but remember it’s ok to NOT be ok.
This illness does not have a quick fix and you must allow yourself time to rest and repair.
We’ve had some great times and some not so great, this being one of them but I’m here, will always be here. I will hold your hand and walk this path beside you.
Never forget I love you and being vulnerable is a very brave thing to do and be xxxx

I often play by myself these days but actually find it quite cathartic. Just being out as you say is very therapeutic. I don't beat myself up so much either and am able to compartmentalise, managing to take positives even on the bad holes. Eradicating myriad swing thoughts is always the key for me. You seem to do likewise by yourself, the majority of the time playing well especially your putting which is so solid. It's like reading between the lines tho, knowing there are darker thoughts, but also understanding that you are a fighter. Golf can be a friend, it can be anything you need it to be. Hopefully, it seems to work for you in many ways. I also feel lonely despite having wonderful friends and family at times, so I can emphasise. keep it going John, you are much valued.

My mother was a great psychologist, she used to say it is very difficult for many people who do not suffer from these type of health issues to understand it. Just because someone should be happy, doesn't mean to say they are. It's an illness of course and one that takes time and care and help to sort.

I can relate to the feeling lonely in a room full of people analogy. However, I remember those things most important to me (wife and daughter), small circle of good friends, good work colleagues and actually enjoying my job. Obviously golf, when I get the chance to get out, football, travel etc etc Much more positives than negatives since I got cancer out of the way! Stay strong Oggie

Good on you John for getting out there and putting the vlog out… not a true Buccaneer myself but trying to support you where I can and solidly behind your RUclips efforts.
You’re a genuine high handicap golfer putting real content out there. It doesn’t always have to be great golf (but it is nice to see Neal et al on the channel regularly)😂

Hang in there Big O, you’ve come this far, and clearly had to overcome an awful lot, which shows how strong you are 💪 I found going to local support groups and doing some volunteer work extremely beneficial, Men’s Shed is good if you have one near you. Getting out talking, laughing, playing board games got me back into the world and massively improved my mental health. I don’t have anywhere near as much anxiety, catastrophizing, panic attacks as I had the previous few years. Golf helps a lot too, and you’ve really improved. Good luck 👍💪🌞

Nice video John. Love your openness about mental health. I'm having a bit of a rough time, at the moment, and will be following your example. 1/2 a day holiday on Thursday and will be on the course on my own, don't care about the golf, just to get out in the fresh air and hit some balls. Thanks, mate.
