I have one. My LGS gunsmith put the Ameriglo Hackathorn front sight on for me. Rear sight stays blacked out , since it's built into the optics plate. I've used the KCI mags and OEM Glock mags , no issues. Added a skinny strip of grip tape to the front and rear center areas of the grip , feels perfect now. One failure to all the way back into battery on the first mag . Otherwise flawless performance fine trigger and just enough extra weight to make range time more fun !
You can add Magpul G17 pmags to you non-compatible list. I tried 5 - none would lock in reliably and two wouldn't lock in at all. They had to be slammed hard to lock and wouldn't eject freely - they had to be yanked hard to get them out. In some cases, even when I thought the mag was locked in it would fall out on the first shot. The ejection pattern with them was a problem,too - about half the cases went straight back into the face. On the other hand, this is the softest and flattest 9mm handgun I've ever shot. The trigger and ergos are great, too, imho.
Yeah man, it was a sad day when I found out that my PMAGS wouldn't work for it... It will take large ammendment2 mags the slope doesn't stop it from locking.

I love the honest review, I don't think there is enough of them these days. I hope you get to do a more in depth review because I do like the way this pistol looks but I would hate to pick one up just to have to send it back.
I love this honest review, been watching it since the day I've wanted an STK 100. Now they actually have the STK 100 ULTRA which is the improved version of this model. I would love to see a review of that model too! 😊
I like this all metal pistol. As a Pistol, it does not need a plate for red dots, which just adds more unnecessary "Stuff" that can be prone for failure. It does need a fully adjustable rear sight with a green Fiber Optic Front Fight... RIA has good chain of title for ownership but needs better QC.
Hard pass. A milled steel frame would have had my attention. Clamshell design held together with screws, cringe. Poorly machined parts, cringe. Parts falling off, cringe.
It looks like the screw at the end of the guide rod was backing out too. No? As for the rear sight, it looks like the notch was simply machined crooked. I'll be real curious what RIA has to say about all this.
This was a very helpful posting. I, too, initially liked this gun, but have concluded it appears RIA has some tweaking to do before this is ready for primetime. Hope to see some follow-up videos from GB on this one, or any successors from RIA.
This is unfortunate. I’ve had a generally good experience with my two RIA products; a 1911 in 9mm I no longer own and a new Lion X4 shotgun (made by Derya, I think) I just put 25 rounds through and it worked great. I’ll know more when I get past the 100 round break-in period. Let’s hope Armscor can work out these kinks.
I waited a couple years for Rock Island to iron out the Tac Ultra FS HC issues. Had to send it back because the chamber wasn't finished smooth and was hanging up the case after being fired. I can now hit an 18" tall steel target at 200 yards with it.
I’ve seen other videos that show the groups with different weights of bullets and 115’s did fine but with the 1/16 twist rate it won’t stabilize the 124’s or 147’s with many keyholes. It’s a good idea that’s not quite there yet.
I've seen ported Glocks do that after 100 or so rounds, so it does happen. In those cases it was the heat causing the failure of the 💩 Glock designed sights.
No, this was a loaner gun and it took quite a bit just to send it back. They never replaced it or offered any explanation for craftsmanship or other issues.

It looked pretty slimey in the table top vid. I would have cleaned it and wiped it down before I went out and shit it. Guns out of the box are NOT ready to go. I see reviewers take em out of the box and shoot em all the time and then whine about something happening. Take 10 minutes and do it right.....
It would be great if you can either make a video or a link to how to remove the hammer and extractor from Walther ppq m2 5 inch 22lr. I can't find one anywhere!!!
Watching your video the ejection was not confidence inspiring either, common issue with these guns. I ordered one from PSA because the price was right at $429 shipped. I felt that I was up for a challenge of building something cool. When I found out that Glock barrels don't fit, pretty much making it not cost effective to build a custom gun on this platform, I quickly cancelled my order. This gun has too many quality and design issues to worth spending money on.
It seems that all of rock islands products come with excessive amounts of oil. I got a revolver from them years ago and it was literally dripping with oil
The barrel twist did nto change on its own. We don't have this firearm anymore, after repeated issues RIA took this T&E sample back and never replaced it.
So, not even windage adjustment in those sights? At least one of the sights ought to be driftable. Oh, one way around the "Glock mag compatible?" conundrum is to never buy a Glock. ;-) Seriously, though, given that a pistol mag passes through your hand, thereby dictating certain ergonomic qualities, telling your pistol designer to work around a Glock mag is a bit of a handicap.
Graham & Teya, given that you folks have tested so many pistols, would you care to judge one above all others. Including best grip, quality, recoil, sights, accuracy. Some clearly are better quality machinings. Cost no object. Best current production pistol? 👍🍺🇺🇲 I guess this example won't be submitted for US service acceptances. What a black eye. 👎👎
We've noticed that with pistols especially there is no absolute answer. Because the individual's hand size, hand and arm strength, and personal preferences can vary so much the best "answer" to which pistol is best is usually just the one you have the most training time with. We have favorites for one trait or another, but with most modern guns being reliable it really just comes down to personal preference.
Was first in line locally in the Philippines in getting this STK.it's a nice gun-flat shooting . Problem i got is the grip. When ur palm is sweaty,the grip is slippery. Waiting for the next version of this.

Take a look at the recoil spring rod. Looks like the retention screw on the end is also backing out.

Doesnt seem like the screw is long enough to have enough thread real estate if you know what i mean. Love your channel graham

We normally test ten different loads in 9mm guns but this gun didn't make it that far
With the slide being parkerized, I wouldn't be surprised if that barrel just had a simple blueing.
Maybe the Gen 3 will be Perfection ?

I had a Rock Island 1911 for a short time. That was enough Rock Island for me. They would make good boat anchors I guess.

I have seen in TFBTV interview that they had with guy from RIA say that yes these are interchangeable with Glock 17 Gen 3 slides and the magazines.

We are too. After some effort we finally got this media sample returned to Rock Island but have not heard anything from them since.
Going to be interesting to see if the bullets start keyholing at a particular weight...

Always buy Glock mags and is assume because there are no backstraps, a Carver magwell wouldn't fit. Sux the front sight fell off.
