Back in the day, the way I would benchmark any computer was by answering the question "how many barrels can I explode in GMOD and not crash this thing?"

That probably work alright back then since most had single core or dual core cpus.
Source engine isn't multi-threaded, so doing it on a cpu these days is kind of pointless since it will only use one core of your 4, 8 or 16 core cpu.
Check task manager and you'll see what I mean.
I went for the nuke mod for that.
Honestly the Kleiner model didn't feel all too out of place in most of those realistic maps (except for the scanned locations) he still looked out of place but not as much as you'd think at first thought, just goes to show how good the human models were in Half-Life 2
not really, he looks almost as cartoonish as TF2 player models
@@damsen978 That's a drastic conclusion. TF2 has a specific cartoon look that exaggerates almost every body part they have. HL2 characters have pretty realistic proportions and look fairly good.

Hey, thanks for using my map in the video, I appreciate it! As an amateur gmod mapper, with gm_construct_2022 being my very first map it warms my heart, seeing something i've put about a month of work into, be recognized.
For anyone interested in further developments, i have huge plans for an update, as well as a new map, being fusion between flatgrass, construct and bigcity, however motivation dried up for the past year and it takes some astronomical lengths to optimize these kinda things, something which i've been unable to do properly for this particular map for the 4 months i've worked on it, despite vast usage of anything i could get my hands on in terms of optimization, as some areas just flicker due to the sheer amount of vertices visible, as well as invisible water and broken skybox, despite all leaks fixed and hour long map build times through hammer itself, making things actually gruesome to work with. If anyone has some tips, i appreciate it!

if you still wanna tinker around a bit, arc9's Escape from tarkov ported weapons are great, pairs really well with any body cam mods because it uses some space age technology that allows anybody from an outside perspective to see exactly what your view model is doing, including a third person camera attached to your head/body, they call it "Third person inverse kinematics" and it really feels good to play around with

@@derekcorndogsHalf Life 2 is the game Gmod is built inside of. That's why it's called Garry's *Mod*, because... It's a mod. It started as one, at least, as most masterpieces do.
Half Life 2 is a pretty solid game that runs on the Source engine, and Gmod vanilla uses props and textures from that game. HL2 is apocalyptic, which is why every prop looks dirty/improvised.

I remember seeing this small channel of someone re-creating sh00tings in gmod using super realistic addons, it was really fucked up but so weird with how much detail was put into it

What i like about gmod realism is that its still a sandbox. Too many tactical shooters feel restricted for me

yeah, i like it because you could be shooting soldiers one second to running from a nextbot another second.
Arma is still fairly sandbox-y, although limited to the military setting, of course.

I'd also recommend V92 Head Bobbing, Shadow Company PM/NPC, BSMOD Stun Animations, Mighty Foot Engaged (Cuz it adds dropkicking), Fully Dynamic Animated Blood, Realistic Combine AI, Hemorrhage, Nemez's Combine Soldiers (UHD Armor), VManip Vaulting, Realistic Inertial Redux, Heavier Ragdolls, MW2019 Bullet Impact Sounds, Extended Render, View Rolling, Actual Screen Blood, Better Fall Damage, Grenade Shock FX, 4Bit's Explosions TLOU2 Edition, CoD MW2019 Sound Pack, Dynamic NPC Squads, Better Particle Enhancer, Fragmentation System, Realistic Bullet Decals, Advanced Combat Rolls, [Just about any XDReanims mods], XDR Cod IW idle animations, VManip Quick Grenades, Fading Wounds Fix, and Bullet Crack Effect. These mods do not conflict with one another or the ones in your video. Imo GMod cannot die unless the fandom does so.

insertion 2 is honestly just such a good map
i feel like people forget the entire point of a sandboxwhen they ask "why not just play this other game instead?". having all of these mechanics, aswell as the freedom to create what ever scenario you want with whatever environments, weapons, and enemies that you want is so much fun.
I don't have enough creativity for these sandbox games sometimes. One thing I do really like doing is exploring unique maps from the workshop though. That's usually what I do whenever I play Garry's Mod. I was never big into RP and I usually encounter a lot of jerks on there that think they're so high and mighty like admins.

I love Ratlobber videos. They have this weird Adult Swim, ADHD, Nostalgia swamp vibe to them. Really unlike anything else on the platform now but also oddly familiar in this inexplicable manner.
I completely agree. I think it's the intro and outro shorts, and how they look purposefully dated, with the weird spinning 3D models, old internet-era font usage, and the cartoon drawing boards. All he needs now to truly send it back in time is the occasional time-lapse of a busy street at night, with the shutter speed changed so that the cars create those cool light-beams.

i bought gmod from a garage sale and the guy gave it to me for free, i booted the game up and hyper-realistic kleiner looked at me and choked me through the screen

It's legit crazy how flexible the source engine is, just turning gmod into a AAA game without paying a single dime is insane.
hl2 is considered a aaa game especially for 2004, i remember being impressed in 2014

7:14 I don't know when this was recorded but in there is a weapon base called 'Arc9' made by Arctic. Someone ported most of Tarkov's weapons using Arc9 and it by far is the most 'realistic' weapon mod out there. Ammo jamming / Misfires, hundreds of different attachments, etc.

irl operators can get 30 shots in like one inch without much issue but in tarkov it's like we're new gun owners who are like "WOAW THIS KICKS"

@@predzoru I found it finally but man I wish they had a specific recoil slider for Tarkov, I'm fine with the recoil on others but Tarkov just doesn't feel right

I could've never seen more better Ratlobber video than this. I suggest continuing GMod Realism, (you probably won't,) because I binge watch people installing Realism mods.

Seeing Insertion 2 hit me with powerful nostalgia. I've spent a month with distant relatives in a very similar looking Swedish suburb once. It was the last summer before things went really bad too. I'll have to download that map and walk around...

Source looks pretty good for A GAME ENGINE for GAMES (and animations) its good enough not to look bad to enjoy for a long time
If you have an rtx card I think it's possible to put the files from portal rtx in to Gmod and get actual ray tracing in it

I like using Arc9 and Full body first person. It's a bit glitchy but it gives a very authentic head cam look.

Even if it is graphically dated by todays standards, compared to most other games at the time, like halo 2 for instance, it really is impressive just how good it looks for 2004, even holds up a bit today
yeah, the technology half life 2 handled was years ahead from its time. their physics and facial expressions feature still holds up to modern times.
@@-kstyle Half Life 2 today is not the same as Half life 2 in 2004. The source engine has gone through multiple updates since then, including HL2. They were still pretty good for 04 standards, what was most impressive were the physics and the facial animations.

just as a side thing, CSM im pretty sure stands for Cascaded Shadow Map (or well more so it's to help fix issues with realtime shadows map tech that they use to actually get the shadows rendering from the sun, some crazy stuff and i can barely understand some of it) i cant remember how to explain it fully but it basically is taking the real time sun shadow tech from CS:GO and shoe horns it in a way into gmod, its pretty cool stuff

As a Swede, it was incredibly cool to see such a realistic Swedish map.
I was honestly very confused when i saw the green co-op sign. Like, I didn't know if it was a reference or just a fluke. But now that I think about it, it's quite obviously a reference.

This is the first time I have seen Inserion2, and I immediately recognised it as Sweden even before I read the signs. It’s very tastefully and beautifully done.
That atmospheric house Map looks like a Map that my friends and I used to chill in, in vr chat. Like eerily so.
