who the hell negatively comments on this??? That amount of snow you moved in 5 minutes sitting on your tractor would have taken 20-30 minutes and back breaking labor plus sweating your butt off with a shovel. That machine is more than capable. I grew up in VT for 26 years before moving just south of the mason dixon line and I never want to see this much snow at once again unless it is on purpose. (ski trip or something) thanks for the upload!
LOL! Yeah - doing it in real life gives you perspective. You might think it should go faster, but that's as fast as she goes! And a shovel... 5 feet takes its toll. When the snow's this deep, it just soooo much mass.
I moved from south of the Mason Dixon line TO the NEK in Vermont 5 years ago and love it here. Yeah, I get the snow, especially back in the Winter of 2018-19 where I had 6 foot drifts to contend with. I'm retired so nothing better to do in Winter anyway, LOL. Cheers!

Oh the Cub Bashers ! I have a107 since 1986 & a 1863 that I got in 2010, both bought used and no issues, I found a blower for the 107 but at that time they were only single stage, so I changed the gears on the blower. Alls good.
Really great video showing what a lawn mower can do. lots of posts about the thing falling apart in a few years, but if you keep up the maintenance, I really do not see that happening. People try & do things too quick. You were going about it right, nice & slow, backup & go again & never really needed chains or muddy atv tires. A lot of people don't have that patience. They would have went flying out of the garage into 3 ft of snow, got stuck, had to wait until spring to get it out. LOL. Great job.
That might be fun one time on a Saturday, but not on a week day while you are trying to clear your drive to go to work, that would suck. I've Lived in central Alabama all my life except for two years in Houston, TX when I was 4and 5 years old, I'm 64 years old. I do not know how you guys do it every winter and early spring. The two biggest snow storms I've seen in Alabama, the first about 8" in 1964 or '65 and largest was in March of 1993 I had 18" of flat snow, not snow blown into a drift, that snowstorm in Alabama shutdown all of Planet Earth....well we thought it did. No kidding Birmingham and all of Metro Birmingham was closed for 3 days. Exactly two weeks to the day was the start of spring break and my family was vacationing at Gulf Shores, Alabama, enjoying 70 and 80 degree fun on the beach. I wish you guys all the best removing your snow either by blowing, pushing, shoveling, scraping, or plowing, and remember if it snows all day you get to dig your car back inside when you get home.

Makes me homesick for Maine. Used to clear my driveway with an old Craftsman lawn tractor and blower, took awhile but was fun and relaxing. Yeah, I'm weird like that.

By the time I get done doing the driveway and all the paths around the house and barn, it is a good hour and a half. Good exercise, and with good equipment, it is fun! Except that wet heavy spring snow.
Rumors have it that he experienced mechanical problems somewhere between the garage and the street where it was assumed he surcome to the elements. Officials called off the search after 3 days. His body was found in April just 50 feet from where the machine broke down!
Last journal entry: ‘Every day we have been ready to start for our depot 11 feet away, but outside the door of our tent it remains a scene of whirling drift. I ran chains and loaded tires when I used a snowblower. When the snow was too high, I just snowblowed the top snow, running over and taking care of the bottom snow later. This took me less time. If I’m going uphill, I’ll do what you did in the video. A lot of snow indeed! Regardless, you did a fine job with the amount of snow you had to deal with!
If you are still using the same arrangement with the long arm to lift the snow blower and having to push down, I found that if you put a side bolt extension at the height your comfortable with, then all you need is to push down only to that bolt level, swing the handle under the bolt and then it's easy to release and you only have to go down as far as you feel comfortable with, no more grunting every time you have to push down to lock it in place.
Maybe you could c-clamp a section of sheet metal to the top of the snow blower, on the inside, to scoop the snow higher than the blower into the blower, so you could clear one path of snow in a single pass. BTW, that's a LOT of snow.
After plowing *(pushing) snow for 60yrs, I became disabled and at the same all of my snow plows were down, so I bought a snow blower. We had a lot of snow that year, JAN 2014, and when I got to Menard's they only had one left and it was a floor model. It cost $700 which seemed like a lot, but it was a 7hp 2 stage with a light and 125volt electric start. There are only 2 problems with it, 1). The Carburetor has always required the choke to be on around 40-50% to stop the hunting. And 2). The primer bubble has stopped working altogether. But, redeeming factors are It has that 125volt starter and the light on the handle so I can use it at night. I have put that thing thru some hellish drifts like all of 2 feet deep, and slush from the county salting the road and plowing a huge glob into my driveway. To me it's a champion! So, I'm gonna drill out the main jet to fix the hunting, and maybe change the oil this year. I already ran a tube from the outside into the inlet of the carb for shooting starting fluid into it, so it starts right up now. * I have 3 pickup trucks w/ front plows and 4 tractors w/ rear blades. Only 1 works, a 1967 Massy Ferguson 165, but it's so big and it's a Diesel. One of these days I'm gonna...........ben/ michigan
I grew up in Northern NY. About 14 years ago they got 108 inches in one 2 day storm. I dug tonnels from the house to the garage and from the garage to the road. The valley got 300 inch average snowfall per year. I left up there in 1971 and haven't been back. I live in SW KY now. 2 snow storms in 10 years that need plowing. LOL
Looks like the surprise 3 ft of snow we received on march 14 in central NY. Doesn't snow all year and bang... there it is... definitely want to get one of these for the husqvarna.
This is a 4 year old video but it was fun watching you have fun with the little tractor that could. I always say the the Whiners would complain if they got hung with a new rope. I had a similar set up here in Michigan but after 2 years of having snow blow back my face no matter how you much you adjusted the chute I found a nice little plastic and metal snow hood and the first time I used it I just laughed at the snow blowing back at me while I sat behind that hood. The only way to clean your driveway is to have some fun doing it and than it's not work anymore.
Having lived through a 4 foot snowfall, when pushing into deeper snow than the blower is tall, the first pass ought to be high for a few feet then back up and clean down to pavement.
I have a XT2 with the snow cab, the 42" 3X blower and chains. I do exactly the same thing you do and work my way out of the garage a bit at a time. I found that after the first initial full insertion, I then back up and take 1/2 width at a time and work my way through it slowly. The only problem I have is my driveway is 90' long at a 30% down grade from the garage which makes it hard to reverse. All in all, these little tractors get the job done. I wish I had a 4X4 tractor but perhaps some day.
Those 3 stage blowers look very promising. I like the fact that the center/middle stage takes load off the auger blades. As I have mentioned many times, MTD/CC under designed the worm gear/screw gear that drives the auger and it breaks frequently on mine. (DIY repair is a must) The same MTD gears that are used on a walk behind are also used in this tractor mounted equipment and the gears can handle the increased loads. I think the MTD gear is under designed for the walk behinds too; they also break according to repair shops, but probably less frequently.
@@Hullspeed I haven't had any problems with the gears however, I do go through 5 to 7 shear pins every year so I always keep a supply of them on hand. I purchase them through Amazon as they are much less expensive than Cub Cadets pricing on their website.
You mention a 30 Degree drop from the garage, to, I assume, the road. I know you can get down that grade but how do you get back up without an AWD or 4wd? I have a 20 degree drop in my driveway and everyone tells me I need at least an AWD.
There are a lot of people who make comments but do not know what they are talking about. I own a walk behind (72 montgomery ward) built like a tank, single stage and never had it clog up once and I also have a 72 sears SS15 garden tractor with a JD 37A snow blower (highly modified) attached to it. After owning both there is no comparison between the 2, I would rather sit and blow snow then struggle with a walk behind. The tractor set up is all fully automated, hit a switch to turn the the shute or the deflector, electric winch to lift the blower. With the amount of snow you got you are doing just fine considering your tractor is more of the lawn series then garden variety which are more heavy duty and better suited for ground engagement accessories. The newer stuff these days is lighter metal and lots of plastic, sure they may last a while if taken care of but nothing like the old ones and they will break parts as you know. People say they would have done it quicker with a walk behind, how? can they push harder then a tractor? When snow is deep then slow and steady is better then trying to do it quick, blades do not work when it is that deep, I have a 5' foot blade and the engine on the tractor is a 18HP Duramax, good for 3- 6'' maybe more. I am more keen on single stage then 2 stage because the single when MODIFIED RIGHT can do a better job, the 2 stage have to many restrictions, the weak point being the impeller because it is a bottle neck that's why you could not throw the snow quick enough, the single stage opening and shute are at least 6'' and can throw a lot more snow. Take a look at the volume being thrown on a single compared to a 2 stage and make up your own mind. And they can throw just as far, my auger spins at 1200 to 1300 rpm's compared to stock 950 and with a taller shute it is on par with a 2 stage if not better. have a good day
So I just built a similar set up just not a Cub. I can see the limitations of the mechanical lift and rotate. I don't expect I'll see deep snow like this in Colorado except for drifts. I am keeping an eye out for a cheap but powerful hydraulic set up for the future. I've only got about $320 in the tractor and blower before the knobby tires, wheel weights, and washer fluid for ballast were added. Best to look for these in the off season.
This is not directed to the owner... First off, I would have let her warm up for a couple of minutes around half throttle, just to let the engine warm up. I also would have treated this storm in 2 stages with 2 clearings. It would have been a lot easier. I also clear about 2'-3' around the front of the garage and all perimeters before I even start my machine. And I never ever leave a car in the driveway to be in the way of clearing because that just adds more cleaning to the job. It looks like you have a very nice set up there and I hope she gives you years and years of help.
Nice setup!! For added traction Winter and Summer I suggest "TerraGrips" Turf tire rubber traction aids, ordered from amazon and they were around $100 for the pair. Put them on my lawn tractor because I was always slipping on hilly terrain when cutting. Wish I had bought them sooner because I no longer slip and can pull out my snowmobile trailer from an incline with ease! Just install them as recommended by deflating the tires, install grips and re-inflate, this way they are nice and tight. Zip tie the connecting chains(looks need) and your off to the races!!

People certainly get enthusiastic about their outdoor power equipment choices. I try to let everyone post their opinions, regardless of whether I agree, if the comment contributes any measurable value whatsoever to the conversation. But anything truly hateful or with inappropriate language gets removed pretty quickly. For stuff that looks like "production hate", there's a button I can click that remove the user from the entire channel permanently; I don't use it very much at all, but it's pretty effective. A lot of it is just trolling, I think. I figure none of us need any of that, so it's an easy and effective way to knock it out. -Best
Snow higher than the top of the rear tires would make it about 24” deep which is quite a storm. I had to blow through snow that deep with my JD 524 walk behind after the property owners Bobcat broke down. I’m going to try having my Toro 520xi and 522xi ready for snow next winter in case his Bobcat fails again.
I have a 42" Berco attached to a 1974 Bradford (Same as MF14) repowered with 16HP Kohler Cast engine. Saskatchewan snow fall on my acreage can be a little or a lot, just depends on how much wind blows it around and drifts it in. I've had days like this and that machine gets through it no problem. It's not a race, and I'd say your doing well with the cub. Some years I could use a truck mounted snow blower, and other years I could probably just hit it with the lawn mower...lol.

I've been out lotsa times in the middle of the night to avoid blowing that much in the morning. . . Dont wanna slip the clutch that long, prefer to let it go in low gear. Not to mention I may have to leave 24/7.
I used to be a volunteer fire/EMS responder; in that case I'd be working it continuously or sleeping at the station. Now though, things are different. I like to get some coffee and bacon with wifey and let the storm finish. Only thing is, you can't let it start turning to ice!
All you need is a flap above your chute that directs the snow back down in the your snowblower and you'd have a chance to not have to back up so often although it would be slower. But it seems you have plenty of power so you should be good to go. That's a heck of a job. There's no snow blade on a garden tractor that's going to work better than your blower in that snow. One would have to get after it when the snow is half that depth. Tell the guy with the JD gator to come to your house and show you how it's done... he'd be there till the snow melts.... lol My son has one and while good, its no match for that snow.

wow that snow is deep and yes it would take time, I've tried this with my 21 hp sears Craftsman, bought a brand new snow thrower at a local auction house. I put chains on it and weights to boot and the trouble with it was it would hang up in certain spots due to ice and I would have to get off and push with someone on it. Then I used a Massey Ferguson tractor with a snow blade on the back and that worked good since the tires were loaded (calcium filled) but the best and the cheapest fix to plowing is my 4x4 ATV with a blade attached on the front. I've got my 250 ft. long driveway done in 20 minutes now rather than the one hour or so with the snow thrower or any other means. I also know when I see a few inches of snow and I'm on my ATV plowing which makes it easier to clear my driveway. Also the ATV is great for other projects. Plus its allot of fun as well.

The 42" snow thrower is part number 190-341-100 (auger mfg. code 1G015G and after). The snow thrower is belt driven (just like the mower deck) with power coming from a forward facing PTO and a belt that runs down from the front of the engine, around two lower-forward pulleys, and back underneath to where the mower deck would be mounted in the summer. The snow thrower assembly then re-transmits the power forward again via a pulley and right-angle gear box, a telescoping shaft, an enclosed cog-chain-cog gear box, and a final shaft going through the rear of the chute to the snow impeller and auger worm gear drive. I purchased both the tractor and the thrower in 2008.
they perform well but do not last. we had a 1998 cub cadet 2135 and it was parted out and junked years ago. the powder coat BS pain literally fell off the machine. dont kid yourself MTD does not make good products look at older machines
nothing makes me laugh harder then watching people fight the wind an eating a ton of snow in a losing fight as a result. FFS dude blow snow in the same direction as the wind, life will get so much better for you.
Greg Ward that's been my take on every snow blower video until I finally got my own. The wind between my house and garage goes all directions, whirling around and gusting almost constantly. Plus I can only move the snow forward, to the east, away from my buildings. Slightly south as my driveway narrows. I can only hope and assume that's the case for others.
You should’ve let the engine warm up for a few minutes because the oil needs to warm up and lubricate properly or it causes pre mature wear on the engine. Nice video though
A little under powered but you had fun doing it I had a 17 horse with a huge blower on it done my driveway in less than a half hour it was about 500 ft to the top of my house gotta love those cub cadets thanks for sharing

that is a lot of snow. wish we would get something like that hehe. i got tired of clearing for hours with the 9hp Honda. witch is an awesome machine. but we got now a brand new New Holland td5 85 hp tractor with a Dunn tv220 blower on the back. loader for it also. sitting warm and nice while play.. eeeh working lol. love that thing :)
its what you want and need i guess. i have a loader on mine so need to have the blower in the back on the three point. its a pull type two step. the td5 is not a huge tractor, but it aint exaclty small either hehe so it works fine for us :)
East American Trains if it were on the front, it would have to be hydraulic and cost more, but since it’s on the back, it can use the tractor’s PTO. Cheaper and easier to use the PTO-no messing with hoses, motors, pressure, and flow.
To those people who are telling this gentleman to go out and buy a diesel SCUT, you've missed the point that this snow storm was a very rare event. Even if I could afford it, I would not spend $15,000 dollars to deal with a snowfall that happens roughly once every 10 years. Snow removal contractors don't do that and neither do municipalities. If everybody else here is just swimming in money they don't have anything better to do with (like invest it for retirement), then I withdraw my comment.
A (new) SCUT with a snowblower is much more than $15k. I've got over $25k in my 1025R for the tractor, loader, 60" mower and 54" snowblower. But I also live in an area that has an average snowfall of over 10 feet and use the tractor for a lot of things. If you have the space and the need they're easily justifiable.
Do you recommend this snowblower? 190-341-100. It gets horrible reviews. I have a walk behinder Ariens 28 HP and I'm not sure if I would also benefit from having the tractor mounted blower on my 2518. I live in Central Vermont and I've never seen snow like this 24"'er you got!!
I don't really. My suggestion is that you read through the comments on this video and my other snow-thrower videos on this channel. There is a lot of discussion on the strengths and weaknesses of this setup.
FYI You should really let your engine ideal for 1-2 minutes then increase to full throttle, and let it warm up some more. Unless your garage is heated. But all in all, us men LOVE to play in the snow with our toys!
Concur. I actually did run the engine for about 60 seconds and shut it off before rolling the camera, but if I show that everybody goes nuts about how I'm going to kill myself!! I've found people get very passionate about engine care! That's good I think. On the other hand, I wouldn't be too disappointed if I had to get a newer better piece of equipment one day! ;)
I have the same setup for my Cubby. Beats waiting for a plow guy. Makes short work of my driveway without having to nurse a sore back at the end. I'm impressed you don't need to use chains on your rear tires. Looks like you might have a couple more weights that I have. Perhaps that's it. I found this setup is not very good at snowblowing paths around my house (like to my oil fill line). The full assembly between the snow thrower and tractor is so long that you can't turn very well. The sides of the snow thrower meet too much resistance with the snow banks. Oh well...you can't have it all.
Yes. Your comments sound really familiar to me. I got chains one year, but I don't like the thump thump thump and it made marks on the driveway - so I never used them again. Traction is an issue and someone suggested I should get snow tires (which I guess are available). I never did, but it's probably a good idea.
@@josiahallen4114 What you do (I'm told) is get two used wheels (or new ones) and put the knobby tires on them. Then you just change the whole wheel with the tire already on it. Then change it back to turf tires in the spring.
Just make the first pass all the way through to the end slowly. And then do half on the spillage and half on unblown snow it would be a lot faster and also easier on the Unit it's self as well as cleaner.
Good video... I just bought a big black snow thrower for my Cub cadet I don't know the name . I also bought snow chains for the rear tires. 46 acres half a mile long driveway 😩😩😩
Hey! I hope it performs well. I tried chains; they help for sure, but they're not fun to use because of the bumpiness. They will also scar up the blacktop if it's an asphalt drive and you spin the tires. Luckily I can barely get away without the chains because I don't have any serious hills (just gentle slopes). Someone else on the channel suggested knobby tires, which made since to me. I've never gotten around to trying them though.

2004 Craftsman GT5000 (25 hp) with a 44” Berco two stage blower. I did the following... - Chains - Rear tires filled with winter washer fluid, which added approx 60 lbs / tire - added a sleeve hitch that holds a 42” grader blade - 50 lb barbell plate for each rear tire. Not yet installed but can be strapped to sleeve hitch. It all works fine. I’d like a cab next
Why do you keep backing into the garage the Snows in front of you not behind you put it in first and go at a steady pace the first pass is always the worst then just take half cuts at a time and make progress.
In a deep snow like that, I always clear an "operating pad" outside the garage. That's my first task. Until I'm sure how things are going, I don't make a long single run - for fear that something breaks or I get stuck; then I don't have an easy way to turn around or back up. I need to be able to retreat back into the garage for repairs, if needed. Eventually, I make a long single slow run, as you suggested; just not at first. When I reach the street, I have to carefully backup a little, and go forward, to start making a turn around pad. Then I do the slices you talked about.

That is a lot of snow my friend. Was that overnight or 24 hour.? I have a club cadet the same model I think I rather stick to just cutting grass I live in Alabama. But it beats having a shoveled to do that more power to you LOL
It fell inside of 18 hours! News was forecasting it for 3 days prior so we were super loaded up with supplies. We went to a restaurant the day before and had one last venture out. They had a big sign saying open till 3:00pm; we were having our late lunch and watching the snow start to fall. There was a lot of excitement in the air; the restaurant was happy to have a last little bit of business. Everyone there had a ride home arranged and no one planned to be back for many days. We drove home as the snow was starting to cover over the roads. That night was to be a blizzard (45+ mph winds), so it didn't make any sense to start throwing early because it would just blow around again. I got up in the morning and that is what we found! Yeah, shoveling would be out of the question! Just noooo way... Not even a chance.
i have that much snow packed in my dogs area .. one side fence 8 feet other side 6 feet .. now its 6 feet and 4 feet ..hope we get a warm spell too melt off a foot of snow..
bought the tractor and snow thrower attachment rear weight tire chains debating on the adjus height studs instead of the skid plate after owning a huskee garden tractor and snow thrower cannot wait till wind blown heavy packed drift an prove which was better if it last as long as i will be passed bfore it quits lol most of the snow was a heavy type
It will be easier to make a " Straight Line " all the way to the street. Then come back " Half Way ".... Back and fourth like that, rather than going back / fourth after a few feet. Save Time and Gas just going straight line!
Yep. That's essentially what I did after making a small "launch pad" area as an outside base camp. Then you start the long single lane run, hoping you don't get stuck. When you get to the other end, you have to back up and carefully try to carve out a wider lane, and then an area in which to turn around in so you can get back.
I used to have a CC3186 with the same 45” blower. It worked fine until the snow got towards the top of the housing, then the engine would bog down. I kept the blower and switched to a CC3235 tractor. Then the tractor wouldn’t bog down, but it was moving so much snow, the chute would blow off the top of the second stage. mtd crap. Got rid of it all and hired a plow service- that was worse, you are bound by someone else’s schedule. So, I got rid of the service, and went back to a walk behind simplicity signature pro series. We’ll see how that works this winter.
I've been using a Cub Cadet 930SWE walk-behind with a cab for the last dozen years (or so) on my 120' long driveway and parking area. This 78 y/o guy is getting tired of humping that bad boy up and down the driveway, so this year I picked up a John Deere GT245 (low hours) with a 42" blower and cab, and weights and chains. We'll see how that works out. I notice you're not using chains. Does that work out well for you ?
I like to watch the cub work and this guy is smiling ear to ear. I built a rear mounted plow for my jimmy out of a small JD blade and another junkyard JD blade with a car tire tread for my cutter bar and it works great ! Thanks for your cool video. you get it COOL

For this particular storm, the forecast was calling for an overnight blizzard - so I figured I should just relax until the wind stopped blowing. Trouble is... that's what's waiting for you.
skido and yamaha I have the 2185 and it’s caught on fire 2x’s already, but was able to put it out both times before I lost the Cub. 1st time, mower mule drive pulley bearings went bad and sparked on the bolt until it caught fire. Second time, front oil seal went bad and leaked oil down the front of the engine and trapped grass clippings in the oil. Muffler heat was so much (due to insufficient exhaust shield that the heat caught the oil & grass clippings on fire, cuz I saw smoke as I was mowing. I stopped and shut it down, then blew the fire out, as it had just started. The muffler (always) and engine fins heats up grass and leaves and burns them without starting fire most of the time. Has to be periodically cleaned out. I can’t run the side shields, since I’ll get vapor lock from excessive muffler temps. Muffler glows mildly red hot in the dark.
What model Cub is this? I'm in Maryland too with a 2166 I adapted a snowblower attachment. What size engine do you have? Mine is 16hp and seems underpowered. Waiting for the next snowstorm because I have a new carburetor now, so maybe I have more power too. Great video.
I'm impressed for a rear wheel drive and no chains. It beats shoveling. And you don't have to pay $15,000 dollars for a 700series Deere which will do a faster job.
The forecast was calling for a blizzard during the snowfall, so I figured I would let things settle while I enjoyed my eggs and toast. Still, my neighbor was wondering why it was taking me so long to get going... He's a taskmaster.
Ya I noticed that as well, heated garage or not that engine needs to warm up before you give it full throttle! The controls on that blower suck! The lifting and spout rotation and deflector! I would not be happy with that!!
Heated garage, 10 seconds of no throttle running, another 20 seconds of no load on the engine.... he was fine. " warming up " used to be a valid concern. Not so much now a days.
NoBs yes, his tractor you can warm up as you stated, but what about if you have a (cheaper) lawn/garden tractor with integrated choke and throttle? The throttle has to be wide open to use the choke, and if it’s cold, you have to run the choke for about 1 minute with full throttle before taking off, and affects longevity.
who the hell negatively comments on this??? That amount of snow you moved in 5 minutes sitting on your tractor would have taken 20-30 minutes and back breaking labor plus sweating your butt off with a shovel. That machine is more than capable. I grew up in VT for 26 years before moving just south of the mason dixon line and I never want to see this much snow at once again unless it is on purpose. (ski trip or something)

LOL! Yeah - doing it in real life gives you perspective. You might think it should go faster, but that's as fast as she goes! And a shovel... 5 feet takes its toll. When the snow's this deep, it just soooo much mass.
I moved from south of the Mason Dixon line TO the NEK in Vermont 5 years ago and love it here. Yeah, I get the snow, especially back in the Winter of 2018-19 where I had 6 foot drifts to contend with. I'm retired so nothing better to do in Winter anyway, LOL. Cheers!

I have a107 since 1986 & a 1863 that I got in 2010, both bought used and no issues, I found a blower for the 107 but at that time they were only single stage, so I changed the gears on the blower. Alls good.
Really great video showing what a lawn mower can do. lots of posts about the thing falling apart in a few years, but if you keep up the maintenance, I really do not see that happening. People try & do things too quick. You were going about it right, nice & slow, backup & go again & never really needed chains or muddy atv tires. A lot of people don't have that patience. They would have went flying out of the garage into 3 ft of snow, got stuck, had to wait until spring to get it out. LOL. Great job.

That might be fun one time on a Saturday, but not on a week day while you are trying to clear your drive to go to work, that would suck. I've Lived in central Alabama all my life except for two years in Houston, TX when I was 4and 5 years old, I'm 64 years old. I do not know how you guys do it every winter and early spring. The two biggest snow storms I've seen in Alabama, the first about 8" in 1964 or '65 and largest was in March of 1993 I had 18" of flat snow, not snow blown into a drift, that snowstorm in Alabama shutdown all of Planet Earth....well we thought it did. No kidding Birmingham and all of Metro Birmingham was closed for 3 days. Exactly two weeks to the day was the start of spring break and my family was vacationing at Gulf Shores, Alabama, enjoying 70 and 80 degree fun on the beach. I wish you guys all the best removing your snow either by blowing, pushing, shoveling, scraping, or plowing, and remember if it snows all day you get to dig your car back inside when you get home.
This is awesome, bottom line is, he's getting it done and no one had to go out and shovel. Also, confession time, when the kid in blue waved, I waved back at my computer screen. Yes, I haven't had my required dose of coffee for optimal function, but also I am from the South, and when somebody waves, we wave back, it's just what we do. Makes me homesick for Maine. Used to clear my driveway with an old Craftsman lawn tractor and blower, took awhile but was fun and relaxing. Yeah, I'm weird like that.

Clearing snow is relaxing. I have a 28” walk behind Ariens and a 300’ long gravel driveway. By the time I get done doing the driveway and all the paths around the house and barn, it is a good hour and a half. Good exercise, and with good equipment, it is fun! Except that wet heavy spring snow.

Rumors have it that he experienced mechanical problems somewhere between the garage and the street where it was assumed he surcome to the elements. Officials called off the search after 3 days. His body was found in April just 50 feet from where the machine broke down!

I ran chains and loaded tires when I used a snowblower. When the snow was too high, I just snowblowed the top snow, running over and taking care of the bottom snow later. This took me less time. If I’m going uphill, I’ll do what you did in the video. A lot of snow indeed! Regardless, you did a fine job with the amount of snow you had to deal with!
If you are still using the same arrangement with the long arm to lift the snow blower and having to push down, I found that if you put a side bolt extension at the height your comfortable with, then all you need is to push down only to that bolt level, swing the handle under the bolt and then it's easy to release and you only have to go down as far as you feel comfortable with, no more grunting every time you have to push down to lock it in place.
Looks like it works well but the controls look flimsy.
Maybe you could c-clamp a section of sheet metal to the top of the snow blower, on the inside, to scoop the snow higher than the blower into the blower, so you could clear one path of snow in a single pass. BTW, that's a LOT of snow.
After plowing *(pushing) snow for 60yrs, I became disabled and at the same all of my snow plows were down, so I bought a snow blower. We had a lot of snow that year, JAN 2014, and when I got to Menard's they only had one left and it was a floor model. It cost $700 which seemed like a lot, but it was a 7hp 2 stage with a light and 125volt electric start. There are only 2 problems with it, 1). The Carburetor has always required the choke to be on around 40-50% to stop the hunting. And 2). The primer bubble has stopped working altogether. But, redeeming factors are It has that 125volt starter and the light on the handle so I can use it at night. I have put that thing thru some hellish drifts like all of 2 feet deep, and slush from the county salting the road and plowing a huge glob into my driveway. To me it's a champion! So, I'm gonna drill out the main jet to fix the hunting, and maybe change the oil this year. I already ran a tube from the outside into the inlet of the carb for shooting starting fluid into it, so it starts right up now. * I have 3 pickup trucks w/ front plows and 4 tractors w/ rear blades. Only 1 works, a 1967 Massy Ferguson 165, but it's so big and it's a Diesel. One of these days I'm gonna...........ben/ michigan

I grew up in Northern NY. About 14 years ago they got 108 inches in one 2 day storm. I dug tonnels from the house to the garage and from the garage to the road. The valley got 300 inch average snowfall per year. I left up there in 1971 and haven't been back. I live in SW KY now. 2 snow storms in 10 years that need plowing. LOL

Looks like the surprise 3 ft of snow we received on march 14 in central NY. Doesn't snow all year and bang... there it is... definitely want to get one of these for the husqvarna.
This is a 4 year old video but it was fun watching you have fun with the little tractor that could. I always say the the Whiners would complain if they got hung with a new rope. I had a similar set up here in Michigan but after 2 years of having snow blow back my face no matter how you much you adjusted the chute I found a nice little plastic and metal snow hood and the first time I used it I just laughed at the snow blowing back at me while I sat behind that hood. The only way to clean your driveway is to have some fun doing it and than it's not work anymore.
Having lived through a 4 foot snowfall, when pushing into deeper snow than the blower is tall, the first pass ought to be high for a few feet then back up and clean down to pavement.
No, the first pass should have been when you only have a foot and a half, doing it 2 or 3 times is faster than doing once with 4 feet.
I have a XT2 with the snow cab, the 42" 3X blower and chains. I do exactly the same thing you do and work my way out of the garage a bit at a time. I found that after the first initial full insertion, I then back up and take 1/2 width at a time and work my way through it slowly. The only problem I have is my driveway is 90' long at a 30% down grade from the garage which makes it hard to reverse. All in all, these little tractors get the job done. I wish I had a 4X4 tractor but perhaps some day.
Those 3 stage blowers look very promising. I like the fact that the center/middle stage takes load off the auger blades. As I have mentioned many times, MTD/CC under designed the worm gear/screw gear that drives the auger and it breaks frequently on mine. (DIY repair is a must) The same MTD gears that are used on a walk behind are also used in this tractor mounted equipment and the gears can handle the increased loads. I think the MTD gear is under designed for the walk behinds too; they also break according to repair shops, but probably less frequently.
@@Hullspeed I haven't had any problems with the gears however, I do go through 5 to 7 shear pins every year so I always keep a supply of them on hand. I purchase them through Amazon as they are much less expensive than Cub Cadets pricing on their website.

You mention a 30 Degree drop from the garage, to, I assume, the road. I know you can get down that grade but how do you get back up without an AWD or 4wd? I have a 20 degree drop in my driveway and everyone tells me I need at least an AWD.
There are a lot of people who make comments but do not know what they are talking about. I own a walk behind (72 montgomery ward) built like a tank, single stage and never had it clog up once and I also have a 72 sears SS15 garden tractor with a JD 37A snow blower (highly modified) attached to it. After owning both there is no comparison between the 2, I would rather sit and blow snow then struggle with a walk behind. The tractor set up is all fully automated, hit a switch to turn the the shute or the deflector, electric winch to lift the blower.
With the amount of snow you got you are doing just fine considering your tractor is more of the lawn series then garden variety which are more heavy duty and better suited for ground engagement accessories. The newer stuff these days is lighter metal and lots of plastic, sure they may last a while if taken care of but nothing like the old ones and they will break parts as you know.
People say they would have done it quicker with a walk behind, how? can they push harder then a tractor? When snow is deep then slow and steady is better then trying to do it quick, blades do not work when it is that deep, I have a 5' foot blade and the engine on the tractor is a 18HP Duramax, good for 3- 6'' maybe more. I am more keen on single stage then 2 stage because the single when MODIFIED RIGHT can do a better job, the 2 stage have to many restrictions, the weak point being the impeller because it is a bottle neck that's why you could not throw the snow quick enough, the single stage opening and shute are at least 6'' and can throw a lot more snow. Take a look at the volume being thrown on a single compared to a 2 stage and make up your own mind. And they can throw just as far, my auger spins at 1200 to 1300 rpm's compared to stock 950 and with a taller shute it is on par with a 2 stage if not better.

So I just built a similar set up just not a Cub. I can see the limitations of the mechanical lift and rotate. I don't expect I'll see deep snow like this in Colorado except for drifts. I am keeping an eye out for a cheap but powerful hydraulic set up for the future. I've only got about $320 in the tractor and blower before the knobby tires, wheel weights, and washer fluid for ballast were added. Best to look for these in the off season.
This is not directed to the owner... First off, I would have let her warm up for a couple of minutes around half throttle, just to let the engine warm up. I also would have treated this storm in 2 stages with 2 clearings. It would have been a lot easier. I also clear about 2'-3' around the front of the garage and all perimeters before I even start my machine. And I never ever leave a car in the driveway to be in the way of clearing because that just adds more cleaning to the job.
It looks like you have a very nice set up there and I hope she gives you years and years of help.
My experience with this setup is that it's all or nothing. If there is much snow under the tractor, it get's bogged down in terms of traction.
Nice setup!! For added traction Winter and Summer I suggest "TerraGrips" Turf tire rubber traction aids, ordered from amazon and they were around $100 for the pair. Put them on my lawn tractor because I was always slipping on hilly terrain when cutting. Wish I had bought them sooner because I no longer slip and can pull out my snowmobile trailer from an incline with ease! Just install them as recommended by deflating the tires, install grips and re-inflate, this way they are nice and tight. Zip tie the connecting chains(looks need) and your off to the races!!

I try to let everyone post their opinions, regardless of whether I agree, if the comment contributes any measurable value whatsoever to the conversation. But anything truly hateful or with inappropriate language gets removed pretty quickly. No, I've got a Gravely 8179KT with a 44" snow cannon and a Pro 16 with a 36" cannon. Far superior machines.
Snow higher than the top of the rear tires would make it about 24” deep which is quite a storm. I had to blow through snow that deep with my JD 524 walk behind after the property owners Bobcat broke down. I’m going to try having my Toro 520xi and 522xi ready for snow next winter in case his Bobcat fails again.

I have a 42" Berco attached to a 1974 Bradford (Same as MF14) repowered with 16HP Kohler Cast engine. Saskatchewan snow fall on my acreage can be a little or a lot, just depends on how much wind blows it around and drifts it in. I've had days like this and that machine gets through it no problem. It's not a race, and I'd say your doing well with the cub. Some years I could use a truck mounted snow blower, and other years I could probably just hit it with the lawn mower...lol.

I've been out lotsa times in the middle of the night to avoid blowing that much in the morning. . . Dont wanna slip the clutch that long, prefer to let it go in low gear. Not to mention I may have to leave 24/7.
I used to be a volunteer fire/EMS responder; in that case I'd be working it continuously or sleeping at the station. Now though, things are different. I like to get some coffee and bacon with wifey and let the storm finish. Only thing is, you can't let it start turning to ice!

All you need is a flap above your chute that directs the snow back down in the your snowblower and you'd have a chance to not have to back up so often although it would be slower. But it seems you have plenty of power so you should be good to go. That's a heck of a job. There's no snow blade on a garden tractor that's going to work better than your blower in that snow. One would have to get after it when the snow is half that depth. Tell the guy with the JD gator to come to your house and show you how it's done... he'd be there till the snow melts.... lol My son has one and while good, its no match for that snow.

wow that snow is deep and yes it would take time, I've tried this with my 21 hp sears Craftsman, bought a brand new snow thrower at a local auction house. I put chains on it and weights to boot and the trouble with it was it would hang up in certain spots due to ice and I would have to get off and push with someone on it. Then I used a Massey Ferguson tractor with a snow blade on the back and that worked good since the tires were loaded (calcium filled) but the best and the cheapest fix to plowing is my 4x4 ATV with a blade attached on the front. I've got my 250 ft. long driveway done in 20 minutes now rather than the one hour or so with the snow thrower or any other means. I also know when I see a few inches of snow and I'm on my ATV plowing which makes it easier to clear my driveway. Also the ATV is great for other projects. Plus its allot of fun as well.
The tractor is a Cub Cadet GT2550 with a Kohler Command, 2 cylinder, air-cooled V-Twin OHV. Engine power is 22 hp (16.4 kW) with a shaft drive to a rear heavy-duty cast axle for propulsion. The 42" snow thrower is part number 190-341-100 (auger mfg. code 1G015G and after). The snow thrower is belt driven (just like the mower deck) with power coming from a forward facing PTO and a belt that runs down from the front of the engine, around two lower-forward pulleys, and back underneath to where the mower deck would be mounted in the summer. The snow thrower assembly then re-transmits the power forward again via a pulley and right-angle gear box, a telescoping shaft, an enclosed cog-chain-cog gear box, and a final shaft going through the rear of the chute to the snow impeller and auger worm gear drive. I purchased both the tractor and the thrower in 2008.

an old farmall cub or super-a with a blade works just fine. they will outlast a nuclear war. my cub is a 1948
they perform well but do not last. we had a 1998 cub cadet 2135 and it was parted out and junked years ago. the powder coat BS pain literally fell off the machine. dont kid yourself MTD does not make good products look at older machines

nothing makes me laugh harder then watching people fight the wind an eating a ton of snow in a losing fight as a result. FFS dude blow snow in the same direction as the wind, life will get so much better for you.
Greg Ward that's been my take on every snow blower video until I finally got my own. The wind between my house and garage goes all directions, whirling around and gusting almost constantly. Plus I can only move the snow forward, to the east, away from my buildings. Slightly south as my driveway narrows. I can only hope and assume that's the case for others.

You should’ve let the engine warm up for a few minutes because the oil needs to warm up and lubricate properly or it causes pre mature wear on the engine. Nice video though

that is a lot of snow. wish we would get something like that hehe. i got tired of clearing for hours with the 9hp Honda. witch is an awesome machine. but we got now a brand new New Holland td5 85 hp tractor with a Dunn tv220 blower on the back. loader for it also. sitting warm and nice while play.. eeeh working lol. love that thing :)

its what you want and need i guess. i have a loader on mine so need to have the blower in the back on the three point. its a pull type two step. the td5 is not a huge tractor, but it aint exaclty small either hehe so it works fine for us :)
East American Trains most really large tractors don't have a PTO on the front, just the back and center...
East American Trains if it were on the front, it would have to be hydraulic and cost more, but since it’s on the back, it can use the tractor’s PTO. Cheaper and easier to use the PTO-no messing with hoses, motors, pressure, and flow.
To those people who are telling this gentleman to go out and buy a diesel SCUT, you've missed the point that this snow storm was a very rare event. Even if I could afford it, I would not spend $15,000 dollars to deal with a snowfall that happens roughly once every 10 years. Snow removal contractors don't do that and neither do municipalities. If everybody else here is just swimming in money they don't have anything better to do with (like invest it for retirement), then I withdraw my comment.

Right On. Get the tool you need 95 percent of the time and take care of it. If a rare and massive event happens, then take your time and deal with it.
A (new) SCUT with a snowblower is much more than $15k. I've got over $25k in my 1025R for the tractor, loader, 60" mower and 54" snowblower. But I also live in an area that has an average snowfall of over 10 feet and use the tractor for a lot of things. If you have the space and the need they're easily justifiable.

Do you recommend this snowblower? 190-341-100. It gets horrible reviews. I have a walk behinder Ariens 28 HP and I'm not sure if I would also benefit from having the tractor mounted blower on my 2518. I live in Central Vermont and I've never seen snow like this 24"'er you got!!
I don't really. My suggestion is that you read through the comments on this video and my other snow-thrower videos on this channel. There is a lot of discussion on the strengths and weaknesses of this setup.
FYI You should really let your engine ideal for 1-2 minutes then increase to full throttle, and let it warm up some more. Unless your garage is heated. But all in all, us men LOVE to play in the snow with our toys!
Concur. I actually did run the engine for about 60 seconds and shut it off before rolling the camera, but if I show that everybody goes nuts about how I'm going to kill myself!! I've found people get very passionate about engine care! That's good I think. On the other hand, I wouldn't be too disappointed if I had to get a newer better piece of equipment one day! ;)

I have the same setup for my Cubby. Beats waiting for a plow guy. Makes short work of my driveway without having to nurse a sore back at the end. I'm impressed you don't need to use chains on your rear tires. Looks like you might have a couple more weights that I have. Perhaps that's it. I found this setup is not very good at snowblowing paths around my house (like to my oil fill line). The full assembly between the snow thrower and tractor is so long that you can't turn very well. The sides of the snow thrower meet too much resistance with the snow banks. Oh well...you can't have it all.
Yes. Your comments sound really familiar to me. I got chains one year, but I don't like the thump thump thump and it made marks on the driveway - so I never used them again. Traction is an issue and someone suggested I should get snow tires (which I guess are available). I never did, but it's probably a good idea.

@@josiahallen4114 What you do (I'm told) is get two used wheels (or new ones) and put the knobby tires on them. Then you just change the whole wheel with the tire already on it. Then change it back to turf tires in the spring.

Why is it moving so slow?
Just make the first pass all the way through to the end slowly. And then do half on the spillage and half on unblown snow it would be a lot faster and also easier on the Unit it's self as well as cleaner.
Good video... I just bought a big black snow thrower for my Cub cadet I don't know the name . I also bought snow chains for the rear tires. 46 acres half a mile long driveway 😩😩😩
Hey! I hope it performs well. I tried chains; they help for sure, but they're not fun to use because of the bumpiness. They will also scar up the blacktop if it's an asphalt drive and you spin the tires. Luckily I can barely get away without the chains because I don't have any serious hills (just gentle slopes). Someone else on the channel suggested knobby tires, which made since to me. I've never gotten around to trying them though.

2004 Craftsman GT5000 (25 hp) with a 44” Berco two stage blower.
I did the following...
- Chains
- Rear tires filled with winter washer fluid, which added approx 60 lbs / tire
- added a sleeve hitch that holds a 42” grader blade
- 50 lb barbell plate for each rear tire. Not yet installed but can be strapped to sleeve hitch.
It all works fine. I’d like a cab next

Why do you keep backing into the garage the Snows in front of you not behind you put it in first and go at a steady pace the first pass is always the worst then just take half cuts at a time and make progress.
In a deep snow like that, I always clear an "operating pad" outside the garage. That's my first task. Until I'm sure how things are going, I don't make a long single run - for fear that something breaks or I get stuck; then I don't have an easy way to turn around or back up. I need to be able to retreat back into the garage for repairs, if needed. Eventually, I make a long single slow run, as you suggested; just not at first. When I reach the street, I have to carefully backup a little, and go forward, to start making a turn around pad. Then I do the slices you talked about.
The machine is setup for a driftcutter.
You don't have to backup.

But I never use it, because the bucket/auger takes drifts 22" high.

I believe that improvements have been made since I purchased this unit. I would do some research to determine what is best now. The three stage systems look interesting and reduce the issue of too much torque stress on the auger axle, but I'm not sure if there are any tractor mounted designs.
The tractor is a Cub Cadet GT2550 with a Kohler Command, 2 cylinder, air-cooled V-Twin OHV. Engine power is 22 hp (16.4 kW) with a shaft drive to a rear heavy-duty cast axle for propulsion. The 42" snow thrower is part number 190-341-100 (auger mfg. code 1G015G and after). The snow thrower is belt driven (just like the mower deck) with power coming from a forward facing PTO and a belt that runs down from the front of the engine, around two lower-forward pulleys, and back underneath to where the mower deck would be mounted in the summer. The snow thrower assembly then re-transmits the power forward again via a pulley and right-angle gear box, a telescoping shaft, an enclosed cog-chain-cog gear box, and a final shaft going through the rear of the chute to the snow impeller and auger worm gear drive. I purchased both the tractor and the thrower in 2008.

That is a lot of snow my friend. Was that overnight or 24 hour.? I have a club cadet the same model I think I rather stick to just cutting grass I live in Alabama. But it beats having a shoveled to do that more power to you LOL
It fell inside of 18 hours! News was forecasting it for 3 days prior so we were super loaded up with supplies. We went to a restaurant the day before and had one last venture out. They had a big sign saying open till 3:00pm; we were having our late lunch and watching the snow start to fall. There was a lot of excitement in the air; the restaurant was happy to have a last little bit of business. Everyone there had a ride home arranged and no one planned to be back for many days. We drove home as the snow was starting to cover over the roads. That night was to be a blizzard (45+ mph winds), so it didn't make any sense to start throwing early because it would just blow around again. I got up in the morning and that is what we found!

i have that much snow packed in my dogs area .. one side fence 8 feet other side 6 feet .. now its 6 feet and 4 feet ..hope we get a warm spell too melt off a foot of snow..

It will be easier to make a " Straight Line " all the way to the street. Then come back " Half Way ".... Back and fourth like that, rather than going back / fourth after a few feet. Save Time and Gas just going straight line!
Yep. That's essentially what I did after making a small "launch pad" area as an outside base camp. Then you start the long single lane run, hoping you don't get stuck. When you get to the other end, you have to back up and carefully try to carve out a wider lane, and then an area in which to turn around in so you can get back.
I used to have a CC3186 with the same 45” blower. It worked fine until the snow got towards the top of the housing, then the engine would bog down. I kept the blower and switched to a CC3235 tractor. Then the tractor wouldn’t bog down, but it was moving so much snow, the chute would blow off the top of the second stage. mtd crap. Got rid of it all and hired a plow service- that was worse, you are bound by someone else’s schedule. So, I got rid of the service, and went back to a walk behind simplicity signature pro series. We’ll see how that works this winter.

I've been using a Cub Cadet 930SWE walk-behind with a cab for the last dozen years (or so) on my 120' long driveway and parking area. This 78 y/o guy is getting tired of humping that bad boy up and down the driveway, so this year I picked up a John Deere GT245 (low hours) with a 42" blower and cab, and weights and chains. We'll see how that works out. I notice you're not using chains. Does that work out well for you ?
I like to watch the cub work and this guy is smiling ear to ear. I built a rear mounted plow for my jimmy out of a small JD blade and another junkyard JD blade with a car tire tread for my cutter bar and it works great ! Thanks for your cool video. you get it COOL

Kidding aside - you are correct that it's a mess when it gets that high. And... if you let it ice up - you're toast. For this particular storm, the forecast was calling for an overnight blizzard - so I figured I should just relax until the wind stopped blowing. Trouble is... that's what's waiting for you.
Ice isn't that much of a problem with the 3 stage.
that looks like my dad's lawn mower and do you have problems in the fall with leaves getting on the muffler and getting on fire
A friend of mine lost his lawn tractor that way. I've never had any trouble.
skido and yamaha I have the 2185 and it’s caught on fire 2x’s already, but was able to put it out both times before I lost the Cub. 1st time, mower mule drive pulley bearings went bad and sparked on the bolt until it caught fire. Second time, front oil seal went bad and leaked oil down the front of the engine and trapped grass clippings in the oil. Muffler heat was so much (due to insufficient exhaust shield that the heat caught the oil & grass clippings on fire, cuz I saw smoke as I was mowing. I stopped and shut it down, then blew the fire out, as it had just started. The muffler (always) and engine fins heats up grass and leaves and burns them without starting fire most of the time. Has to be periodically cleaned out. I can’t run the side shields, since I’ll get vapor lock from excessive muffler temps. Muffler glows mildly red hot in the dark.
What model Cub is this? I'm in Maryland too with a 2166 I adapted a snowblower attachment. What size engine do you have? Mine is 16hp and seems underpowered. Waiting for the next snowstorm because I have a new carburetor now, so maybe I have more power too. Great video.

I'm impressed for a rear wheel drive and no chains. It beats shoveling. And you don't have to pay $15,000 dollars for a 700series Deere which will do a faster job.

Ya I noticed that as well, heated garage or not that engine needs to warm up before you give it full throttle! The controls on that blower suck! The lifting and spout rotation and deflector! I would not be happy with that!!
Heated garage, 10 seconds of no throttle running, another 20 seconds of no load on the engine.... he was fine. " warming up " used to be a valid concern. Not so much now a days.

NoBs yes, his tractor you can warm up as you stated, but what about if you have a (cheaper) lawn/garden tractor with integrated choke and throttle? The throttle has to be wide open to use the choke, and if it’s cold, you have to run the choke for about 1 minute with full throttle before taking off, and affects longevity.
