For repairing blocks it would be cool if some minor fracturing stayed but if you used a grinder to get the block down to a non functional state then repaired from there it went back to being brand new looking
At first glance, seeing the armor blocks deform whilst everything else shatters feels weird but when considering armor is designed to absorb damage to protect what's behind it, it makes sense that it deforms instead. P.s I wouldn't be surprised if fragments disappearing when you walk into them is a klang mitigation attempt
I’d say to reset a blocks original state you would be able to fully repair it but then after press a button or just hold down the welder to use more resources to repair it back to the original state.
Played since the earliest days of Space Engineers, this new early access phase is very familiar. When I started playing there weren't even glass windows yet. Exciting to see what will come.
For repairing, i think a cool look would be to to use a frame to fix the destruction. So lets say you blast half a door off. Now you have the half door and a hole. So you go to repair it. Welding much like you do in SE but when you start to repair, it generates the frame that shows up when you place a block to build just inside the damaged blocked. Then you weld it back up like normal. But once the block explodes, that's it. It's gone. Armor blocks i think should deform like we see since they are supposed to be taking damage. The blocks could use some sort of effects to hide the vanishing but that can come later.
I'll wait till the hydrogen blocks comes into the game. Would be fun recreating SE1 ships with all the details that normally would not be possible. 🙂 8:30 Maybe partly repair it will function again, with the missing pieces. but if you go full 100%, it brings it back to full glory?
I know that pistons and rotors are NYI, but when they are I'd be interested in finding out if the 'no damage at low velocity' system means we can implement gears and clockwork with detail blocks
Maybe 2 types of repair tools. One that does work "fast" but only restores function and the other tha works "slow" but restores the block and function.
It makes sense that blocks made as Armor will Deform before breaking. Because that's generally how Tank armor ideally works. It will bend and deform, rather than suddenly shatter.
I will say that I like that the components like gyros, reactors, and gravity blocks are built into cubes so they can line the walls instead of being awkwardly placed in the middle of the floor
Two modes: a patch mode and a repair mode. The patch mode just puts out fires, fixes dents, but doesn’t replace lost material. the repair mode requires materials but replaces materials while still leaving a “scar” of some sort
it reminds of the start of SC1 when i wached old videos i only new of SC durring planet wars and it around the time that 32 episode had all ready come out so yea i only discovered SE at that time
I didn't start until after the Warfare 2 update, but now I'm approaching 4000 hours in SE1 and I am quite ready to start building hours in SE2!!! The potential for the game and the even deeper moddability than before is so exciting.
The regular armor blocks fracturing sounds like a really weird choice for metal. Especially since bending metal is an iconic part of Space Engineers and separates it from the knock-off and competition.
We're going to need cargo offset conveyors to allow *really* building off the 'large' grid. Also, I'm looking at the engineer model, and noticing that his head is scaled either as though his suit is his skin, or his body is extremely emaciated underneath the suit.
Since they made the faces more visible, even with the helmet closed, it would be nice if they would add at least some level of face customization. Just to give players a little more on-screen personality.
I got the game when planets were announced. I had been interested in it but didnt really see much of a point if the world was going to be so empty. I'll wait until we actually get weapons in SE2 before buying.
i hope if they add rockets that they add 2 variants, armour penning which will pen through armour then explode leaving a tunnel through the armour and damage on the inside and the high explosive one for just impact damage.
Each block that supports fracturing has each possible fracture point built into the model. That would mean every armor block fractured in exactly the same way, where deformation is done dynamically. It would also mean that a bit of damage to a few selected armor blocks could slice off entire chunks of the ship without having to actually *destroy* a single block. Armor blocks are intended to be structural, so fracturing would make ships far too fragile.
The floating bits must be limited for performance reasons. Since armor makes up the bulk of most ships, it may not be CPU friendly to shred them into thousands of individually tracked pieces.
@@Runkiee that would imply they make hydrogen engines use oxygen as well. And that thrusters would actually apply torque which is still my biggest immersion break for the game. They could easily implement thruster torque as removing the torque actually takes more code. "But with thruster torque, building would be so annoying." Nope. First, gyros would max out torque to counter it. Second, thrust balancing would be used to fix the torque. Third, we could actually have gyro-less ships by having thrusters be used for attitude control automatically. Gyros would just allow you to turn without thrust, turn faster than thrusters would allow, or maximize thrust on unbalanced ships. I think it would make the engineering in game more interesting and look less ridiculous.
Do you think when Space Engineers 2 has more content in the next few years, will you make a new colony series on it or will you make a whole new series away from the colony series?
It's still a grid-based system, so only one block can occupy a single bit of 3D grid-space. It's just that the grid size is 25cm rather than being either 50cm or 2.5m.
@@Vessekx I know, but there's still a way. If you place a slope, you end up with half block occupied, if you tell the game that you can use that half block, you end up with either another slope block, making a full cube, or you can place a full cube on the slope, ending up with 3 free half block spaces around the cube. It's a bit complicated for me to explain in written English, since it's not my first language, hopefully you understand what I'm trying to say.
If you want them to wait to release the game, just wait to play the game, let everyone who wants to play it now as is play it as is. Stop being jealous that people are going to have more fun than you making videos about the current state of the game.
"this is very much your 1st access preview of live gameplay from somebody else that's not the developer" yeah no this is my 3rd don't act like you're the only big SE youtuber
We really gotta get a space helmet that isn't just "face dome" Like ffs stop copying each other with the stupid 2001 reference, make helmets like halo's mjulnir armor or fighter pilot helmets and let us plant big gaudy stickers on them. I want flappy bandoliers, scarfs and chaps to customize on my suit. Come on, let us have a style in our clothes, why is seeing each others faces so important in a space sandbox
We've seen the same thing already in every preview of the game. Also, no info on when the other "vertical slices" will be released? Wouldn't be surprised if it takes years to complete the entire game...
It's not surprising since Keen has said it repeatedly already. From Marek's blog: 1.1 is basically complete already. 1.2 and 2 is currently in progress with 2 probably adding the O2/H2 Generator in-game
Yes, solar panels really are the poster boys for our new destruction model! 🤩
I will pay you to buy ksp and make ksp3 but actually good
@@BjornWestdykdifficult. as far as I see Vrage3 does not support moving voxels and well... ksp kinda has a few non-ship moving things. xD
are mechanism blocks planned?(rotors, hinges, pistons)
What about hydrogen engine's
I remind you that We are all waiting for folding landing gear)))
We should not forget that the fighter cockpit started its life as a mod and then became a normal part of the game
90% of the game started off as a mod...

Planets were live for less than a week when I started. Don’t think I’d have the same passion for the game if it wasn’t for alpha early access.

I was playing Space Engineers before Planets. This remake looks amazing.
I remember the very early days of Space Engineers before weapons, when you could just build ships and smash them together.
SPACE ENGENEERS II came out before GTA VI
I know that pistons and rotors are NYI, but when they are I'd be interested in finding out if the 'no damage at low velocity' system means we can implement gears and clockwork with detail blocks
Ooh I hadn't thought of that, something to test later on

Hi captain this is the most exciting news I've had in a week
Spaced armor is going to be really good in SE2
thanks jack your making me feel old cos i played the 1st game roughly when it 1st came out XD
The star wars ships are going to be so much more fun
Agreed!
I will say that I like that the components like gyros, reactors, and gravity blocks are built into cubes so they can line the walls instead of being awkwardly placed in the middle of the floor
I fear the clang lag
well the clang comunity is probebly happy you can't have SE without clang
Ah the good old days, me and my friend decided to build a ship and try to get to the edge of the universe, iirc there wasn’t survival yet!

I would like to see how it would look. Maybe somebody will mod that in.

I think that hands welders should have the "patch" repairs and block welders fully repair.

i want to build a ship only using 0.25m blocks lol
Keen Throttle Control and Head Tracker plz
I really wish Armor Blocks fractured as well. I hope that's going to be a thing in the future.
It wouldn't be Space Engineers without massive frame lag when ships crash into each other.

It would be nice if armor would subdivide itself into smaller chunks when damaged as the engine clearly allows it.
Each block that supports fracturing has each possible fracture point built into the model. That would mean every armor block fractured in exactly the same way, where deformation is done dynamically. dude it would be SICKKKKK if the armor blockis flaked or something or melted if it was an energy weapon.. Please Keen
I hope my computer can run this it looks amazing!
i'm not quite sure what to think about the new engineer being agent 47
The inside wiring kind of looks like a borg ship.

not a glitch the parts that are broken off despawn for optimization reasons
