Finally check info from the human being and not an automaton I do appreciate it my brain turns off the minute I get to the automaton and thank you for not giving an extremely long intro about you and your business and all the unnecessary stuff they make you sit through before you get to the meet of the matter
Great question. User permissions are granted on a property by property basis. So if you grant access to website A under website A’s user settings, then the user would only have access to website A and not website B or website C. Does that help clarify?
Thank you, Maria. I'm a website designer and need access to my client's GSC at times. I've done the same steps you've described in this video - asked my client to add me as a user with 'full' permission. Their domain shows up on my GSC as 'unverified' and I'd have to verify with DNS records to prove ownership. I thought I'd simply have access without this step?! Thanks for your help on all matters SEO!
Them giving you access usually works so you don’t have to verify. If they only have one property tho vs. domain verification, you might only have access to that specific property (like vs www) - that confusion has happened to me before. Have them screenshot their screen or send you a loom video. That can usually clear things up. Or do it together via Zoom so you can see they’re doing it right! Hopefully that helps
Hey Edgar, great question. So even when you grant "full" permission, the user isn't considered an owner. If the user goes to your properties setting, they'll see a notification like "You are not a verified owner. You were granted permissions by an owner. If you wish to become a verified owner, please use one of the methods described below" and they'll have to do DNS verification. So if you're worried about that, I wouldn't give someone DNS access AND full permissions in GSC. You can also test this out by giving full permissions to another gmail email account of yours or a loved one, and check the settings from their perspective.
@@hirenjoshi851 that’s my assumption, but I’d do a quick Google search or Reddit search and see if someone has found a solution. Or ask ChatGPT lol I’ve had subscribers do that and have gotten good responses for random tech things
Hi Mariah! Thanks for this. I have added a freelancer to my GSC and given him full access. However, he is not receiving any email from GSC stating that he has been added to my GSC. How is he supposed to access it? Thank you!
Unfortunately GSC usually doesn’t send an access email like Google analytics. The freelancer can just go to GSC (Google it for the direct link) and then your website should now be listed under his properties if he has access.
Hey Mariah--- I have added a user to my console but HOW do they gain access to the site?? they did NOT get an email notification and have no idea how to sign in to access the account....
Yeah Google Search Console is annoying like that. They can just Google “Google Search Console” and make sure they’re logged in with the email that has access and that should work. Or have them to go search.google.com/search-console - that’s the URL for the dashboard
Thanks Mariah! The video was a huge help. Would restricted access still allow someone the ability to view the sitemap and see if something is wrong? I'm considering hiring an SEO expert to fix some indexing issues and they said they need to take a look first. I assumed restricted was the way to go, but I just wanted to make sure that will allow them to see everything they need to see. Thanks!
Hey Lino, great question. Off the top of my head, I don’t recall what restricted includes. What I would do is give them restricted and then if they say they need more access to make changes to things, you can always increase their permissions. Hope that helps!
How do I give a developer access to my my Google Console to create APIs for my website, but restrict access to private info like payment method? Thank you! 🙂
This video walks you through giving access to Google Search Console specifically, which wouldn’t include any payment information. If you need to give them access to your broader Google account, then I’m not too sure! I’ve never really had to do that. Hopefully there’s a Google support doc about it.

Should there be any concern with giving someone full access?
As far as losing ownership or anything like this?

Is there any way to export the users access... Like exporting list of user whom access was given
Good question! Not that I know of, but I’ve never had to do that so I’m not entirely sure
Ahh okay.. As currently have to do manually...

Unfortunately no. I’m not sure why!
