Looking for a low-cost way to send and receive data messages via satellite? This is it! With a clear view of the sky, the SparkFun Swarm M138 Satellite Transceiver Kit allows you to send and receive short messages at will. This kit works almost anywhere in the world, including the polar regions, far beyond the reach of WiFi and Cellular networks. It is perfect for a variety of low-bandwidth use cases: from connecting people and tracking vehicles, ships, or packages to relaying sensor data for agriculture, energy, and industrial IoT applications. The built-in GNSS receiver in this Satellite Transceiver Kit makes it perfect for many tracking applications thanks to Swarm's satellite network.

these are wonderful devices, I think the one downside is the constellation of satellites is still a little thin, so you might have 30 minute periods of no signal. if you only need a transmission every hour or so it's perfectly fine. if you want to have constant connectivity you might try the rockblock iridium product instead, it is usually achieves lower latency, but costs much more for a year of service and each message is extra. doesn't include the gps either.

I'd love to see some commercial consumer devices using this network... I've been on the hunt for a tracking collar for pets (could also be used for wildlife or livestock), but the data plans are cellular, and still fairly expensive even in now with all the IOT things...

So it rides on Starlink? That's an interesting twist for Musk...and the pricing is super aggressive, no doubt, can't compete on dollars with Iridium data even at the lowest tier
