- Without a doubt, the biggest and most expensive review since starting the channel. I've had a few recommendations to try the Glasshouse restaurant at the Grove Hotel in Watford. Many of you have wanted me to review an expensive buffet and today is the day. The buffet is priced at £65 for Friday lunch and £82 for weekend hours. Let's give it a go!

I am subscribed to over 500 channels - mainly food, as I worked in catering for 20 years; five of those years in Michelin-starred restaurants. I was trained as a chef by two Michelin-starred dudes, but my back went out and so my days in the kitchen were curtailed. Anyways, I'm just trying to qualify my main point: I know how restaurants work, and I really enjoy your polite and kind attitude to reviewing these establishments. We're possibly of a similar age, and it is very pleasant to see someone that values simple decency. I hope your channel grows and people remember the value of being simply kind and polite.

I just love how absolutely polite and mannered you are to the servers, so humble and likeable. I do the same thing whenever I am being served by anyone as much as I can.

I can't think of any situation when I'd be rude to a server, unless they were rude first. Even when things go wrong, that's life! Roll with it.
I've got to say Gary I would have given it a full 10. Not just because the food was to die for but because of the whole experience of it in such fantastic surroundings. When you go out for a meal, especially for a special occasion as it would have to be for many of us, it is nearly as much about the experience as the food. What a fantastic ambiance.

I concur....As I find it quite annoying when off camera voices constantly interrupt or try to narrate the video...I prefer in or out not on the side

9.5 for me because the quality was “exquisite “! across the range of dishes #1 , #2 you dressed up for the occasion and #3 your hair was perfection my compliments to your hairdresser. Just love seeing you spend your money and enjoying doing so . Another great review!

@@GaryEatsgreat review as always ! If you want to check out a few other “fancy places” you have chewton glen down in Dorset ! Or you have coworth park in Surrey not far from Heathrow ! We often just go in for a lunch, even a burger and chips!! Yes pricey but quality and surroundings are on a different level !
Another place I would recommend for a burger and chips is cut at 45 park lane in London, burger and chips for about 30 quid ! Have had it probably over 100 times over the years it’s been open! Never let me down once !

@@gtaswfc4684 as they say each to their own ! I’m not wealthy ! Live in a 4 bed semi ! Don’t have a mortgage anymore , decent job and like to enjoy life ! Nothing wrong with treating the family to a nice meal now and again ! I mean I saw another uk reviewer a few days ago who reviewed a burger from a van in Dublin for 25 quid and he was saying that was the best thing he has had, while eating it off a bonnet of a car !!!!
I’m careful with my money, but when I spend it , I spend it on quality and not quantity !
When you think at how much a steak dinner costs these days, and that is for just one piece of meat, the selection and quality of food is astounding. Your careful control of portion size was interesting to watch as was your choice. We all noticed the attentive nature of the waiting staff and serving chefs.
When it comes to a score I think that it should be nearer 9.5, but that's just me. Hope you had a relaxing time after you finished your dessert, What cheeses did you opt for?

I thought the same thing. £65 probable isn't that much more than what you'd expect to pay for a steak and chips at Hawksmoor - and for certain cuts, maybe even cheaper.

Oh my, oh my, oh my! I nearly swooned with delight over all that delicious goodness. My favorite roast meat is lamb, followed by pork and beef tied for second place. Everything was sheer perfection in both presentation and service. This is a gem of a buffet and one that should be experienced on a special occasion once in everyone's life. I would give it a 10. Great video thanks Gary. I worked at that hotel in 2008, there were 99 chefs spread over seven kitchens. If you’re prepared to pay that for a meal then I think you should go to the Ritz Hotel for my suggestion of afternoon tea. Great review. Looking forward to the next one!

I went there for lunch and it really was the best meal I’ve ever eaten.
That is easily the most varied & impressive buffet I have ever seen.

I agree,most Buffet's don't impress..unless u a middle of the road ' it is what it is,' for average type price! .But this place the food standard&service is very High!
Was unbelievable quality fraid i couldnt afford it but can tell it was worth it ...couldnt help but clock the family behind you working out that table must have cost four hundred pound for two hours meal serious money

Best i have ever seen buffet wise - love that they have some Hake, a very underrated fish which i absolutely love. Brilliantly filmed too as it really brings across how friendly and professional their staff are

The Grove is very plush. The England football team quite often stay there before big games. Buffet looks decent.

The buffet is superb, as are the bars there. Top venue.

For a special occasion this is worth a visit. For the quality and choice, and if you can eat plenty, it is worth the money.
Calorie deficit for a week before you visit

9/10 too, but that fizzy wine wasn't free!😂
I liked everything you had that didn't involve red meats, shellfish and raw things!
The desserts were obviously the best!
I would have parked myself at that station and stayed there!!

(141) WOW. A "once-a-year" type of experience. The one that you have a dedicated money jar that you religiously put "X" amount of money into during the year to cover the expense so you can enjoy a guilt-free gastronomic field day. And lamb is my favorite roast. What an incredible treat, Gary. MANY thanks for this upload so we can all tag along to enjoy such a rare treat. 😃

@Gary Eats, I can't thank you enough for taking on the tough tasks not many, if any, of us would care to do: your devotion to this I find overwhelming!!!😆😆🤣🤣 ALL the food looked totally WOW and I think you were being more than a bit churlish in rating it anything below 10: just LOOK at the decor, feeling the ambience, quality all through the place, incl service, friendliness of the chefs/servers, free glass of prosecco. An EASY 10, mate.

You always try and be fair and generous in your reviews whether the place saying thank you or the ones where you were disappointed asking you to come back and give them a second go?

Value for money doesn't automatically mean cheap lots of cheap food places are not value for money

Wow, its very difficult to know what to say. So much variety and yet all of those individual components of astounding quality. When you think about what you actually get for your money with regards to location; setting; the calibre of the staff and the excellent food, then you realise it really is not over-priced. It got a 10 from me the food looked delicious and the fact you could help yourself and cater for your appetite is a plus. The ambiance of the place and the decor gave it a warm and inviting feel, in particular the curved seats looked really comfortable. The location and the surroundings of nature adds to the experience and last but not least the service overall, the presentation, the love and care that has gone into creating this feast for all the senses.

Wow, what a fabulous place. You did really well managing to try most of it. So much choice. You really can stuff yourself silly. I think it's good value for money personally because the quality is right there. I'm giving it a 10. It's a shame folk no longer dress up when they go out. That is all part of the occasion for me. A fair review of what I saw and reasonably priced. Buffet meals suffer a bit because it's left served without being eaten straight away. The "apple" was a work of art.

Drowning the yorkshire pudding in gravey will do it for taking the crispiness out of it! I personally love them hot from the oven with melted butter. Keep the gravey for the roasties & meat.

Afternoon Gary , that looked really good value for money and the food looked fantastic, very cheap as well compared to a burger size peace of steak and 5 chips for the same price

That has to be one of the best restaurants that you have been to . It all looked very nice . A bit on the pricey side form me but for a treat fisrt class .I have never seen such a large selection of good food .
