As someone who survived early to mid 2010s fandom tumblr I can understand what Gigi is saying in the same way that a lovecraft protagonist can understand the teachings of the great old ones I understand, and that scares me.
I looked it up... Basicaly Ryoga from Ranma 1/2 Or that angel guy from Supernatural whose name I forget. A good person who's kind of a loser and sad. Kinda like a boy/girl failure that's also endeering
I speak english, I am online A LOT (and on Twitter), she gave us an example and even explained what she meant and I still am not sure what she is trying to convey with her yaoi zoomer fujo code.
I am completely evenly split between envying those who comprehend this, and being horrified by them. It's like, "this language seems dumb... BUT I WANT TO KNOW." 😆
They're hard to understand for me and I'm a native English speaker. I think it's largely because they've been doing a voice this whole time to cater to the Japanese audience, which has worked for them to be fair. Their normal speaking voices are clearer but they do have kind of a strange dialect regardless.
ive seen some jp bros said before that Kiara is the easiest to understand out of EN back then, probably bc she's ESL herself and doesn't use as much slangs and tend to speak clearer rather than mumble. will be fun to see such a tier list but i cant do that since i know exactly what gigi is saying with the meow meows and all that memes so it'll be unfair when we already have pre-requisited knowledge 😂
Personally, hardest to understand are probably Mumei when she goes on a rant, Liz a little because of brit slang and Kiara and Raora since they often mispronounce or use words incorrectly. In general EN doesn't have a bancho or miko so I think there isn't much of a difference between the others, I heard maybeee ina for some? but I asked some esl friends and they never had any issues, probably because she's chill and speaks slowly so it's easy to understand her
My opinion as an ESL Very easy: Mori, IRyS, Kroni, Nerissa Easy: Kiara, Gura, Fauna, Bae, Shiori Mostly easy: Ame, Mumei, ERB, Gigi, CC. (They require some listening effort at some moments. Average: Bijou Hard: Ina, Raora Very hard: Fuwamoco
I mostly agree with this but personally, as an ESL too, I'd put Kiara in hard, no offense but kiara doesn't speak the best english (in a similar way to raora) and I'd put Ina in "mostly easy", she slurs words some times but she speaks slowly so it's not hard to understand what she's saying
There arent that many to rank as Hololive EN slowly being cannabalized by Holo JP. I think its down to Gigi, Fauna, Nerrissa, Mumei, Ina*, Kronii,Cecilia and Elizabeth
Sure, I will make it clearer for you. The only reason for creating Hololive EN from a business perspective is to differentiate the products and appeal to the global audience. One of the problems has been Hololive as an organization seems unwilling to accommodate their Prirmary-English speaking talent in terms of travel and other more significant issues as seen with Ina in which the company failed to properly fill out the temporary (NI) work visa authorization forms (and to some degree Ame deciding to end her contract early). As a result, many of the English-speaking talent have moved to Japan for convenience and perhaps an opportunity to carve perhaps a more lucrative niche in the larger Japanese market (hard not to notice Pekora, Korone, and Fubuki get 20k+ concurrent). Most of this can seem subtle (obviously to some more than others), but a noticeable change can be seen in drastic time shifts of Hololive EN. Probably the most recent and distinct is FUWAMOCO who essentially stream in the primary JP time slots of 4 am EST (which is in the 5pm in Japan). This causes serious Logistical concerns as could be seen in the recent Advent collab where essentially FUWAMOCO where out of it early (due to it being early morning in Japan). To her credit, Mori has managed this probably better than anyone it many cases doing 2 collabs a day, but she has proven to be the exception, not the rule. So, The issue of cannibalization is the inherent shift of the Hololive company movement away from the expansion phase and into a much more linear contraction.
Fine ill look it up myself! Edit: WFT IS A WOOBIE? Zoomer slang evolves way too fast, just let your slang cook for awhile before introducing new ones every week. I get it though, tik tok brainrot has garnered a generation with the attention span of a gnat.
I have no idea wtf she's talking about. When she said Nerissa I was like, "hot woman?" then she was like "Reigan and Sandalphon" or whatever and I got more lost than ever. Honestly, at first I thought maybe she was just saying "meme" in an extra cringe way. Like her own, new form of uwu speak or something. But nah, she made negative sense the more she explained lmao. And I only speak English.
You know you are chronically online when you understand Gigi with no problems 🔥
I still don't know what it means...
I asume it means failure but in an endearing way or something idk
From JP clippers I've seen that Shiori is the hardest. Because of the way she speaks and all the Shiroisms. It's not slang it's all Shiori
As someone whose second language is English, I can confirm. I just laugh along when I hear them say English slang
Gigi is a meow meow
As someone who survived early to mid 2010s fandom tumblr I can understand what Gigi is saying in the same way that a lovecraft protagonist can understand the teachings of the great old ones
I understand, and that scares me.
A Tier list would be nice. Not only for Holo EN, but also for other Branches. For example, I heard Baes English gets better and better.
for me as a Ukrainian, Bae's English is easier to understand than for example Ina's. But overall every HoloEN member is easy to listen to
Guys I looked up "Meow meow" :
"Noun, Informal British: A street name for the drug Mephedrone."
Hope this helps people out.
Correlating Nerissa to Reigen made me understanda bit.
Gigi definitely needs a glossary
I looked it up... Basicaly Ryoga from Ranma 1/2
Or that angel guy from Supernatural whose name I forget.
A good person who's kind of a loser and sad. Kinda like a boy/girl failure that's also endeering
Yeah, I was thinking something gay related since she said nerissa then she called Reigen, that's when I understood
So... "Meow Meow" is "endearing girl failure".
I speak english, I am online A LOT (and on Twitter), she gave us an example and even explained what she meant and I still am not sure what she is trying to convey with her yaoi zoomer fujo code.

these words were not written in the bible
Fuwamoco are definitely hardest to understand from my point of view as ESL.
Just above Miko and under Biboo.
they have a very unique accent that I've never heard anyone else with before. It's like a mix of western canadian and... something else idk
Bro sometimes Gigi and Hajime sound just as incomprehensible.
They're hard to understand for me and I'm a native English speaker. I think it's largely because they've been doing a voice this whole time to cater to the Japanese audience, which has worked for them to be fair. Their normal speaking voices are clearer but they do have kind of a strange dialect regardless.
Same for me. Particularly Fuwawa, I love her and her voice but i sometimes struggle to get what she's saying 😂
The Japanese audience has probably already come up with one
ive seen some jp bros said before that Kiara is the easiest to understand out of EN back then, probably bc she's ESL herself and doesn't use as much slangs and tend to speak clearer rather than mumble.

JP fans used to say Gura was very hard to understand because she spoke too quickly.
Im somewhat of a discord kitten my self
Personally, hardest to understand are probably Mumei when she goes on a rant, Liz a little because of brit slang and Kiara and Raora since they often mispronounce or use words incorrectly. My opinion as an ESL
Very easy: Mori, IRyS, Kroni, Nerissa
Easy: Kiara, Gura, Fauna, Bae, Shiori
Mostly easy: Ame, Mumei, ERB, Gigi, CC. (They require some listening effort at some moments.
Average: Bijou
Hard: Ina, Raora

So….. whats a meowmeow?
so meow meow is something like a girlfailure (dont know if there is a male version of it)?esl
What???
what the hell is a miau miau?
is a meow meow the same as a blorbo?
I don't understand what the heck she's talking about
Who’s the skrunkles of EN then if Nerissa is the meow meow
So basically babygirl?
There arent that many to rank as Hololive EN slowly being cannabalized by Holo JP. I think its down to Gigi, Fauna, Nerrissa, Mumei, Ina*, Kronii,Cecilia and Elizabeth
Not sure what you mean here. Does living in Japan, speaking in Japanese sometimes or having collabs with JP members counts as being cannibalized?
Sure, I will make it clearer for you. The only reason for creating Hololive EN from a business perspective is to differentiate the products and appeal to the global audience. At this rate, the most difficult and rare to see is Gura, which is broadcast live every leap year.
I still don't get wtf it means...
Fine ill look it up myself! Edit: WFT IS A WOOBIE? Zoomer slang evolves way too fast, just let your slang cook for awhile before introducing new ones every week. I get it though, tik tok brainrot has garnered a generation with the attention span of a gnat.
woobie is OLD bro that's been around for decades
@@SaiaiChan Maybe im the zoomer.
