"I have been deploring the loss of information from ages past." Same!! I envy you, and pictured your path as the ideal for a while now, to learn the living & survival basics as a kid. I wouldn't know how to make a fire, which crops are seasonal, How and why literally ANYTHING. When watching these docus, many of the things explained seem like it _should_ be second nature to any human, but it isn't? Other things are ingenious, - calculated and methodical - developed over hundreds of years and cost so much trial & error, suffering and livetimes, - and now it's all lost within a few decades. Instead we know how to best please tiktok's algorithm. I think kids should be taught the basics of both, what is needed in modern times (how to get a job/apartment/pay taxes/laws.. - which we don't even get that beyond 'how to write CV', - instead you memorize logarithms & exact historical dates - which you obviously forget because it's only ever theory on paper & its irrelevant to real life) - But kids should also learn the basic necessities of, well, how to _actuallly_ live and survive. (how & when to grow crop & breed livestock, build structures, herbology, survival skills, old ingenious techniques, ..) Like most of us, I grew up as a useless paper person, not owning & cultivating earth but walking on rented concrete, knowing mostly theoretical stuff, most of which only exists within our made-up system or to serve a company. And even if you end up in a profession that could benefit you in real life like handcrafts, those are ironically the lesser-paid and less respected jobs. I pray I will some day get out of the hamster wheel and be able to own a small off-grid, sustainable home. Be able to combine the comfort of modernity with the fulfillment and necessity of old times. I hope to teach myself the things that ironically I used to scoff at back then. E.g. I used to pity farmers when their knowledge is so immensely vast and important, and I respect & long for it so much nowadays.

43:22 Child suffering in any nation or era hurts even my cold heart, they are so innocent and don't deserve the horrors that they have been/are subjected to and watching Alex and the crew making toys is heartwarming even though I know it's only a reenactment for a documentary series. I really appreciate their style of presentation and how the crew really put a lot of effort into maintaining the immersion in the various series they have done, capturing the mindset, struggles, emotion, etc in their historical recreations in my opinion adds so much context, far more than other run of the mill historical documentaries that simply talk about the past. I think that's one of the reasons I've been hooked on their series since waking up to EP5 of Secrets of the Medieval Castle thanks to my habit of falling asleep to documentaries with YT autoplay.

The poor dude that said No to going to war was actually brave. It takes a brave person to go to war, but it also demands a different kind of bravery and honesty to say you can't kill your fellow human. He recognized that he couldn't, and accepted whatever punishment he was told he would have to do because his integrity and conscience was also important to him. Seeing these old people that went through war now talking is also so important, many of them are just...dying out. We need to preserve their stories and what they had to do during such dark times, at least to honor their lives and hardships. :(

As a Nigerian whose parents and grandparents suffered unimaginable malnutrition during the Biafran war, it’s sad (and terrifying) to think that just 20 years prior to helping starve millions of innocent people to death the British were doing all they could to escape the same fate. I shudder to think of the tricks and tips they brought to the strategy table after enduring, surviving, and learning from their trauma. The victors are simply the people who won, not the people who were right. Don’t get me wrong, I love this trio and all their series, but it’s so weird to see no one (literally 2 people total out of all their productions) who looks like me-even though a sizable number of people of color were all around the uk for centuries. I equally appreciate and loathe British history because if you don’t look too deeply, you can easily be fooled into thinking they were lovely, harmless chaps with a cute tea obsession. It’s a nice escape from reality until you remember the harm in forgetting.

Fantastic! When we talk about WWII, mostly we will speak of The Battle of France, Dunkirk of course, the Battle of Britain. They're might be talk of HMS Hood and The Bismarck. For us in America we always start off with Pearl Harbor as if that was when WWII began, everything the US was involved in, then Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the wars end, for the most part. And of course the Holocaust. These things we should continue to talk about, less they be forgotten which would be tragic. But we have a tendency to ignore the efforts and sacrifices made by everyone else who was not on the battle field. And the people caught in the middle were not sitting it out by any means. They were scared, tired, heartbroken, dedicated, driven, Patriotic soldiers by their own right and they deserve the honor of being included and given their place in WWII history. Thank you for the video. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Absolutely amazing! My dad had been in the Sea Bees of the US Navy. I’m a late baby boomer but old enough to have seen and heard things about the war. These series(s) have answered many questions and more. People wonder how the human race will survive disaster. This is how, at least in rural areas.
Remember fondly of sleeping on a feather mattress at my grandmother's house in her attic 2nd floor, I have never slept so soundly. Stories about her father, who was a butcher giving 'old' meat to the people of the community and her cutting plug tobacco in the store. We need to regain this.
@@queenjeski591 Family time, family stories and where we came from. Living with some of the old while of course living with the new, gives you an appreciation of both.
it actually made me tear up thinking about people bounding together and letting strangers inside their homes in a time of need. i’m from sweden and we weren’t part of any of the world wars, so here we haven’t grown up with our grandparents talking about these things. sure, food were rationed and we took in (way too few) jews seeking asylum, but that’s way different from being in the actual war losing fathers, brothers and sons.
Fantastic that they had a contentious objector on the series. If people didn't agree to fight we wouldn't have physical wars. Then politicians would have to compromise.
Just love these, really brings you back to that time. Such a contrast to the USA right now when people won’t take the simplest actions for the good of all. The sense of community and privation for the good of all persists to this day in the way England and Europe have dealt with the current pandemic.
The US citizens weren't terribly affected by the war, they didn't have to work together to survive only the poor soldiers that fought and died. I think that shared experience of WWII explains why Europeans developed a much better social safety net than in the US. I think that is why individual Americans aren't doing their part to prevent deaths, no sense of shared sacrifice. With the invasions Iraq and Afganistan mostly the young people too poor to afford college went, certainly not Don Jr or Ivanka. Even the future Queen drove an ambulance and experienced the blitz.
I think that if there was a real pandemic in which the people in the next house or next block, especially if it was your house (like in 1918) things would've been different.
There were hard times during the war, my mother turned eight during ww II, her birthday present were eight apples, she was extraordinarily delighted. When was the last time you were delighted getting apples?
22:51 As long as it's for own use, no selling, no "gifting", then it should be completely legal, shouldn't matter if you make 1dl or 100L, as long as you consume it yourself.
(how & when to grow crop & breed livestock, build structures, herbology, survival skills, old ingenious techniques, ..)
Like most of us, I grew up as a useless paper person, not owning & cultivating earth but walking on rented concrete, knowing mostly theoretical stuff, most of which only exists within our made-up system or to serve a company.
@@slaveNo-4028 Making a fire with iron or steel with flint takes a lot of diligent practice and some really tiny flammable particles, like wood shavings or shredded dry leaves, etc. If you don't have experience in the woods, get into a club or vetted online group with excellent pics. It's not really so much hard as it just takes LOT of practice and learning.
Ruth, Alex & Peter, Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I love how wonderfully made these are. It's as if we're back in the forties and seeing it in front of us. When it came time to the Christmas meal I was in tears. I can only imagine what a difficult time to be alive but yet rewarding in so many other ways.
Thank you for uploading these
Shoutout to Ruth, she's my hero. 💜 Great job, everyone. I can't get enough of these videos from this channel. Kudos.
I love this quilt or blanket Ruth is making out of this little couchions. It looks so cosy and cuddley. I really would like one of these. ♥️♥️♥️
I have made one. The puffy parts are very warm, but the seams let the cold in.
I don't know why an air raid siren fills me with such dread and doom. I wasn't even born then.
You've been conditioned to associate that sound with something bad happening.
Agree
@@kaitlynjohnson980 And for good reason. Those sirens still exist in many parts of the world, and they will get the attention of EVERYONE if they feel the need to pop them.
maybe in a past life you lived during WW2 😉
There's no sound that spells 'we are fucked' more efficiently than the raid siren. They didn't even have nukes back in the day yet...
44:30 aww I loved seeing Alex flying his toy around with his sound effects too lol seeing his inner child come out in that moment 🥰 adorable
Wonderful Documentary, love watching this group. Enjoyed the Edwardian and Tudor farm docs also. These Docs also show how much we have lost of community and family over the decades.
Check out the series where they go to Gedalon Castle in France. First one I saw.
I'm So Very Grateful for these videos you all have come together and shared with the world. Thank you Dearly for All your efforts . Really Beautiful vids
I can just imagine some of the evacuees response to starfish.
Evac: "oh thank god, we are in the country where the Germans don't bomb"
Local: "oh hey, help me light this thing we use to get the Germans to bomb us"
Evac: "THE WHAT!?"
Local: "Look at it like this, mate. If the Germans are targeting our fires here, ninety-five times in a hundred, they're just going to bomb the fields. Two times in a hundred, they get the river. Two times in a hundred, they get the cows. One in a hundred, they get us. If they drop it on the city, ninety-five times in a hundred, somebody's dying. So we're going to light this bad boy up, then we're going to be taking our arses to the basement, got it?"
You too?
Every show Ruth, Peter & Alex are involved in is excellent. I've learned so much about British history from them. Ruth's knowledge about domestic history always astounds me! These shows are absolutely invaluable.
Per the usual, you guys have done a fantastic job portraying, and creating an engaging look into the lives of the common man in the period mentioned in the title, however the narration levels are mixed in the same way Spotify mixes a good number of their songs. If you wish to fix these issues, simply switch the background audio with what is currently in place of the audio of the narrations. Please keep up the good work!
they licensed it from other people ,so maybe is the licenser's fault ,so i am not entirely sure they can change it as easily
If you search on youtube at : War time farm, there are someone who called themselves TheFarmvids - that has much better sound. The video there is 360 instead of 480 as this one... however, I think it is ok, and much less annoying than this excessive sound! These also have all 8 episodes..
Music should be "BACKGROUND" not foreground in the videos. Other than that, great!

Alex was getting emotional reading about the toys.
I love how at the 54 minute mark in the dance hall Peter and Ruth are still struggling with the fox trot after their lesson 😂❤️
"Stuffing is my favorite part of a Christmas dinner " says Peter..lol I couldn't agree more
Peter always the'normal' guy&nice manners- not an actor or did much of the narrative aside of the castle ones
I got goosebumps when that woman sung god save the king…I actually teared up too! Great series, love Ruth, Peter and Alex, really enjoyed all the series. ☺️ thanks for uploading 🥰
I watch this episode over and over again I’ve watched all of them. It’s a wonderful piece of history that we are able to see reenacted. Everyone is here Ruth, Alex and Peter. I love Henry and Colin being back.
I am just grateful for the mind shift and examples of the human spirit that we somehow had to find during COVID
21:16 henry is zoomin across the field there lol
Thank you Absolute History - Ruth, Peter and Alex. Beautiful
I feel like having lived through two covid years, I understand a little bit better the desire to make a holiday extra special.
47:15 I'm so glad I finished my breakfast by this point in the video...
Don't get me wrong, the music is way too loud and awkwardly mixed, but it isn't THAT bad. Definitely still worth watching!

Please inform us on what the British had to do with your tribal war. And what the hell are tribes doing in the 20-21st century anyway?
@@indy_go_blue6048 you're either a very unskilled troller and need a better hobby or you are stupider than your average walnut. Whatever the case may be, I suggest you reassess your life and find out what went wrong.
The Indonesian people were under British rule at this time.
IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY.
Only when British crown left their country and they were given the option were they allowed to migrate to British soil. Thus the dark skin people.( been less than 100 years)
I thoroughly enjoyed this.
that improvised toy is like ''daad... the airplane is cutting my fingers, and little sister has already lost three nails''
Thank you for this extremely informative video. You did a great job.
We need to regain this.
regain what?
@@queenjeski591 Family time, family stories and where we came from. Living with some of the old while of course living with the new, gives you an appreciation of both.
Every time I hear about evacuees from London it reminds me of the book ‘Goodnight Mr. Tom’. Time to read it again and cry my eyes out.
The "background" music is so loud, the captions can't pick up the narrator. It just says [... music...]
@Robby Dey when lol
it actually made me tear up thinking about people bounding together and letting strangers inside their homes in a time of need. i’m from sweden and we weren’t part of any of the world wars, so here we haven’t grown up with our grandparents talking about these things. sure, food were rationed and we took in (way too few) jews seeking asylum, but that’s way different from being in the actual war losing fathers, brothers and sons.
The background music was wayyyy too loud. You couldn't hear what the narrator was saying.
Fantastic that they had a contentious objector on the series. If people didn't agree to fight we wouldn't have physical wars. Then politicians would have to compromise.
I love seeing how all the normal people there really came together! Our best friends across the Atlantic! Love the UK!!
I used to watch these on viasat history on TV when I was about 8 and now I found them .omg the comfort and nostalgia
Hahaha I got such a kick out of the foxtrot lesson that I got my dancephobic husband to do it. Even he couldn't believe how easy it was lol.
I absolutely love this series. The different eras and the different experiences.
I Adore Ruth!!...What an Angel of a human!!!....

These farm series are PRICELESS! Each one is a gem...however...whoever the sound tech is needs to be SACKED!

but the music isn’t even in all the narration, and when the music is played, it’s such a small amount time in comparison to the whole episode.
@@queenjeski591 Exactly. This is why I don't feel it's important enough to complain about. If we couldn't hear anything the entire way through, then sure. Another reason to admire and appreciate the stalwart courage of the British during WW2. I have the greatest admiration and respect for Winston Churchill and the Royal Family, who refused to flee London during the bombing blitz. I hope the millennial generation will "wake up" to the sacrifice and determination of the "greatest generation". It takes character, patriotism, fortitude and a strong faith in God to survive a struggle of that magnitude.
