So yeah my grandmother is South Vietnamese who supports the North Vietnam (Still alive today in her 70) that told me stories about her times in the war and there a part about her father (my great grandfather) is the team leader of the tunnel diggers during French Indochina War, she told about him having to facing many patrolling French Soldiers while his Comrades is digging, it also part of the plan from Ho Chi Minh to build tunnels leads to underground of the French Fortresses to strikes from the inside, after the war against the French, American and their's allies came in to face, they started to bombing raids all over the villages and more (Operation Rolling Thunder) So one day my grandmother is running away from the bombing raids and heading to the tunnel that her father's team built to take shelter in, she told she saw a person got blowed up from the bomb too during running, after a while the Tunnel Rats began to coming to my great grandfather's tunnel, they starts to going in deeper as my great grandfather stepping up to protect his comrades, his remains family and the villagers taking shelter, he first yell out "Chuột" (Rat in Vietnamese) when first saw the Tunnel Rat, they managed killed some of the Vietnamese Soldiers but my great grandfather managed to killed the first Tunnel Rat and other one escaped, he did saved the people in the tunnel, there are more stories about my grandmother and her family that I can shares more if you guys want to, but it quite harsh for her to remember all of it again but she enjoy sharing them with me to learn something as I did
The French were fighting to retain their colonial empire over "French IndoChina" beginning after WW2. The USA supported France's effort to retain their colonies due to the fear of communism spreading. That is why the Americans took over the fight after France gave in.

When my grand dad was 16, he lied on his enlistment form saying he was 18 so he could escape the gangs in LA and when he got to Vietnam, the Marines made him a tunnel rat. He’s still alive and kicking to this day.

I have huge respect for all veterans, but Vietnam Vets always have a special place in my heart after working with so many of them when I was younger. They were fighting a war, that for many years after the US still called a "conflict" only to come home to be spit at and persecuted for not dying in a war that they were drafted into.
Im Australian and worked in a city pub. We had an old quiet cleaner that was a Tunnal rat. He drank a lot as to be expected
Unfortunately the tunnel entrances were very difficult to find as they were well camouflaged and in obscure locations deep in the jungle. Also all tunnels had multiple entrances so finding all of them was even more difficult. Good video guys!
Rather, fortunately they never found the tunnels. Americans had no right to be there.
I worked with a VC soldier that was a tunnel rat. He told me he went months without seeing the sun as he underground. He said his favorite month was when his tunnel collapsed and he was stuck under a US Latrine. He could run out and get food from the trash and there was lots of steak and beer in the trash. He worked night crew and stayed away from most Americans. He was evacuated when Saigon fell and became an American. He was caught after that month and he talked so they used him for intel and such. He was so happy to be captured, his feet were jungle rotted black and they were still black when I worked with him. I was his boss so he had to talk to me.
SEATO (South East Asia Treaty Organization) was formed in '54 in response to the French defeat and withdrawal. It was formed in order to keep communism from spreading in Asia. Therefore, Australia, NZ, South Korea, Phillipines, etc, (signatories of the treaty) all contributed in Vietnam... although it was 99% American effort.
The South Koreans actually put up a fairly large force in Vietnam despite still recovering from their own civil war.

@@DannL18 well they we're paid to fight ; what you see today korea is partly TKS to Vietnam war where Korean get aid for sending man to fight in Vietnam like alot of aid and the soldier get paid too ( aka solved work issue ; get the soldier train and experience ; get aid for road and other project in Korea )

Now we have remote control gadgets with live feed cameras that we can stick a few pounds of C-4 on and send them into the tunnels until we get them to a place we want to blow up. And the "speed boost" button is no longer for speed, it's used to detonate the C-4. They should put a short recording on them that says, "Say hello to my little friend" just before the C-4 goes off. LOL.

I met a combat medic from the VW and he told me he saw a tunnel rat who was trying to crawl out of a hole and as he was halfway out they put spears through him horizontally so he couldn't leave. Then they started to just carve shit into the guys body.

The difference between Afghanistan war and this is that we Vietnamese never were a threat to anybody, just living our lives and then the french nd americans decided to come and kill so many of us.
Việt minh basically refers to members of the Vietnamese communist party and their army. Việt công are the socialist party of Vietnam, but they basically worked together to unify all of Việt Nam. Long story of how the Việt minh somewhat betrayed the Việt công. If anyone visits Việt Nam, there is a place northwest of Sài gòn (Hồ Chí Minh City) called Củ Chi, where you can actually tour tunnels two levels deep (they made the tunnels larger for visitors, below that the tunnels are very small, but the network, with escape tunnels into the river, is quite impressive. I have a lot of admiration for those tunnel rats and the stories they told.

Yeah if what I hear is true then vietnam soldiers used to sneak through three layers of patrol around the american camps and then sneak into tents just to take a dump on their chest, soldiers wake up to the smell eventually and be traumatized that a guy was close enough to slit their throat just to do that instead

One of my old employers is a Vietnam veteran. He told me a story of how tunnel rats uncovered a VC stash of medicine donated by the faculty of UC Berkeley.
That I can believe, seeing how Berkeley is a socialist university.

freedom of whom? The US was fighting a war to retain the French colonizer of Vietnam, the reason why the Vietnamese support communism was BECAUSE OF THE FRENCH, they didn't want to leave. And the US backed up the French so...what Freedom are ya talking about? American should have not involve in that war in the first place because it has nothing to do with American and its people's freedom. Same with Afghanistan, Iraq and other wars that American ever involved with....unnecessary wars that has nothing to do with the people in America accept American big industries and corporations. Basically if other nations doesn't want to sell stuff or buy stuff from America the CEO of all these big companies will lobby your politician to make war with the nation. THAT IS WHY MOST NATION HATE THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT. That's what happened in Libya and Iraq because Gaddafi and Saddam didn't want an oil deal with the US and dont wanna sell oil to the US companies for a cheap price so America invaded them. As simple as that. It has nothing to do with FREEDOME.
