Went hiking in Nepal with some Australians. I had no idea about this song, but it came on in a bar and they were suddenly possessed... like they'd been summoned to the dance floor. It was one of the most memorable bits of the trip 😂

This has been an Australian thing since the 1970's. Very cultural. In all the dance clubs back then and onwards. Weddings and school dance feature it too to this day. Didn't know the rest of the world were missing out on this great fun dance.

I just learn about this from a friend of mine in Australia. He was shocked in the US it wasn't a thing being the song itself.

I had NO IDEA about this dance and this tradition til I read Wikipedia. For some reason I started crying. Happy tears. To think of the pain that song came from, and seeing it turned into something so joyous. Makes you believe in humanity again.

    RIP Tina. ❤
Mind blown that today I’m only realising this is an Australian thing! Before today, I thought it was global??!!!
Every time the song is played, just have the need to get up and do the dance (with roller skates on)
Thank you Tina for the song that paved way for an iconic party dance.

The best time I've ever had doing this dance was at a wedding where the DJ made it slightly faster every verse and by the end it was me in stiletto heels and two guys as the only people remaining doing it at quadruple the speed. So much fun!

It's sad to say but other countries have always admired and loved black music and black artists more than America has. Back in the 50s white kids were not even allowed to listen to black music so America is way way behind other countries when it comes to black music and artists. Sad but true.

been nutbushing since the song came out. A fave on the dancefloor no matter ur age or what part of oz ur from... its all the same. My first blue light disco at the age of 12 and this was one of the standard dances. You could have an empty dancefloor but as soon as the first 2 bars are played the floor is packed!
