Squarebody Chevy Dual Exhaust Installation and Test Drive - Flowmaster American Thunder

- Опубликовано: 3 июл 2024
- Here's a very fun video featuring the first upgrade to my "hand me down" Chevrolet Squarebody Pickup Truck ... the Flowmaster American Thunder full dual exhaust system. Kit 17742
I'll run through the complete install, including the only tricky part... adapting from the H pipe to the stock down pipes on the small block 350 in this truck.
Couple things to consider when ordering a kit for your Square body Chevy... even though this is a 1976 C20, not the more common C10, it doesn't have catalytic converters so the kit was an easy fit but the Amazon shopping filter said it wouldn't fit this vehicle. So do a bit of detective work to make sure you order the right option for your rig!
Here's a link to the AutoEdits Amazon store www.amazon.com/shop/autoedits
In the shopping list for Square body Truck is this kit. Any shopping you do after starting on this page helps sponsor this channel... so grab a set of my favorite Grease Monkey Bones gloves or some Lucas fuel treatment while you're there.... THANK YOU!
Here's a link to the Flowmaster (Holley) web page, it's where I'll be shopping for a ton of more stuff for future upgrades to this truck...
What should be next???
Thanks so much for watching!!!

Challenge for Jason's fans. Who can top that?
DUDE!!! This level of support feels so dang good and is so appreciated... Thank you!
$4.99. Who’s got next?
@@red07ls Yeah buddy!
@@red07lsheck yeah. Thank u
Howdy Everyone... Thanks so much for being here and watching!!! Please hit the thumbs up for me if you like this one, I had so much fun making it!
I wore my earbuds for this video! Your truck sounds really cool. The placement of the exhaust tips looks killer; who cares about the spare wheel? Toss it in the bed, tie it down...and enjoy! What a great mod!
Do you still have large marge?
Had to sell the Mustang a few years ago 😢
Keep these old trucks alive!🤟
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I to love these trucks
Heck yea! 2 videos in 1 week. Really missed your content. Keep em coming. Thank you Jason! 💪
Thanks! Will do!
Bet it's quite to you because now the pipes point away from the cab even further than prior.. out the sides you'll hear it more.. cool!❤
In high school, I loved the square bodies that had the side exhaust. In the cold, you could look out the side mirrors and see the exhaust puffing away. Yours is cool too, of course. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
That's one of the things I love about being a "car person" Having fun memories attributed to a vehicle or even a sound.
Hell yeah! Don't ever stop these videos! Great stuff every time!
Alright! Talk about a very rewarding upgrade. I like the center exit, nobody else running it like that.
Heck yeah!
Great video and fantastic upgrade!! Love that sound.
I love the joy and happiness you bring to your videos keep the fun up.
Thank you, I will!
I think it looks and sounds great coming out the center like that! Well done
Thank you! Cheers!
That is a very clean square-body. Straight out the back is always better for cruising, hear it when you want to, and quiet when you don't, lol
🤘
Great job! Sounds awesome!
Thanks a lot!
Would like an update man. Sweet ride!
Thanks! Will do!
enjoyed the video. I've always been a Flowmaster fan...and your upgrade looks fantastic. Especially liked the attention to detail with the bolt-on hangers! Merci
Thanks! 👍
The truck sounds great, awesome upgrade!!
Thanks 👍
This is the kind of video that makes me want to work on my own ride. Thanks for sharing 👍
Go for it! That makes me very happy to hear.
very stoked for this. Over here in the Appalachian mountains, i see these trucks all the time but they’re rarely taken care of.. To see this one in such good shape and to know you’re going to give it the justice it deserves is just fantastic!!
I hope so... LOL!
Excellent video! Very well put together.
Thank you kindly!
Jason! Another great one dude! Excellent quality of video. Fun. 🤙
Thanks so much!!! Just had fun with this one.
@@AutoEdits I know you’ve said it before in a vid but you used to do video work for MotorTrend?? Your style of filming and editing along with the music is very professional.
@@1RoadGarage I did work there for a bit on a couple of shows... mostly Dirt Every Day. I appreciate that you notice!!! When I watch your stuff, I'm always SOOO impressed by the amount of detail you get. I know that takes time and the fact you always deliver is pretty inspiring!
Sounds good Jason. 👍
Thanks!
I watched your channel a while back on your 3rd gen camaro, I didn't even realize that was you until I went back and watch some of your old videos. I found your channel again because I just picked up a 78 c20 and was searching c20 videos. I'm excited about your c20 project. Keep up the great work
Howdy! That is really cool to realize how long I've been tinkering away at this and glad you're back!
Truck sounds great!
Thanks!!!
Is really cool that they make a lot for an older truck. Great sound, and no drone is pretty surprising. Oh, and that wide angle lens in back makes it look like a drag car with super wide tires.
Ha!
Thanks! Challenge for Jason's fans. Who can top that?
So nice of you! I really appreciate the super thanks and challenge but I think your hollering into an empty room over here... 😂
Sounds perfect
I love this truck I really want one I'd keep the after market exhaust at the back and make a frame for the spare in the truck bed with fog lights On the roof blacked out would raise it 2inch with chunky mud tyres and a blacked out bull bar with light bar and electric winch cable
Excellent suggestions!
Nice work brother sounds like butter love the idle sound 😀
Thanks! I still love it!
Sounds like a scene out of Mad Max when you give it the beans. Great looking and sounding truck.
It does!
I just inherited a 1992 F150 from my father-in-law with 53K on it, looking forward to upgrading the exhaust to this system, sounds awesome, great video man!
I still like the sound a lot!
Sounds great!
I'm super happy with it!
Can't go wrong with Flowmasters. I put them on all of my vehicles.
They have such a deep selection of vehicle kits... the most of any other brand and I've never been disappointed in the fit!
Nice truck. I have 1973 K10 4 speed and recently had 2 1/2 dual exhaust put on and dropped 2 super 10s about 2 or 3 feet behind the cab. You can definitely hear it.
Very nice!
Thanks!
DAAANG! 🙌
I like to think this particular exhaust system was made for the square body specifically😂
I would completely agree!
“Butt Dyno” just became a part of my vocabulary 😂
🤣
that sounds good
I love it... and it looks great to!
Yay Jason. Good to know you're alive. Was concerned since haven't seen snything from you in a couple of months?! Good ol' dual exhaust upgrade is a must for any self respecting car guy or a gal.
Good to see your awesome video!
Yep, I was really having a tough time and just trying to push through. This was a fun one to make and I hope for better times.
@@AutoEdits Hope everything turn out well for you. Hang in there brother.
Thank you!
If you want a little louder and more rowdy, swap in a Comp Cams Thumper Cam, lifters, rockers, that will give it some more bark. Exhaust sounds great.
It does need all of that... but it's gotta pass tailpipe smog check here in CA.
Like the Truck, it's cool.
I agree!
I just love to see you welding! #squarebodybuddies
It felt pretty dang good to roll out the ol' metal gluing together machine 🥽🪄
Do you think it’s so quiet because you moved the pipe out the back?? I think it sounds great and love the look of the whole truck!! Great video as always👍🏻. Keep them coming😀
Yep, absolutely and I like that about it. Thanks dude… I’ll keep at it… glad you’re here!
Middle is bad ass
Hey thanks!
I definitely would have ran it the same way in the rear. 👍🏻
Right on!
Getting rid of those "pee shooters", love it!
Now we straight axle it and add a divorced 205 transfer case
Wow, now we're talking!
👍👍
🙌
hmmmmm I know that freeway entrance intersection lol....looks like VP.
You got it!
@@AutoEdits had to get off the 14 and take SH there to bypass a wreck one of my Sepulveda VA trips
Great vid got a question do you think this exhaust is loud enough for the neighbors to hear idling and when you pass by people cars and houses they car hear u?
At idle it's pretty mellow but still louder than stock.
Great video I have an 86 c10 stock 350 thinking about this exhaust. I live on a backroad and do cruising speeds around 55 u think people will hear me coming in a distance?
It's pretty healthy sounding.
Have you ever used that exhaust paste on the slip together joints? It is supposed to help prevent leaking.
It doesn't leak so I don't need that stuff.
welding required in certain spots?
You could do it with clamps but it's easier for me to just weld it up.
Are we getting a Squarebody update?
I'm having a difficult time getting out to make videos but am getting closer.
Have a '77 Big10, 350 that looks a lot like your truck. Looking for a quiet exhaust kit that will give me better MPG and can be easily installed like the one in your video. Also, is there any benefit to running pipes out the side vs out the rear? Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Cheers
Pipes out the back or side is just personal preference. It's a bit quieter in the cab with them pointed out the back.
What parts numbers are those nice job

Next upgrade/mod, call LMC Truck and get yourself a decent looking rear bumper lol.
I’ll look that up!
Next a Bluetooth radio with speakers
how much of a lift
You went from a straight through muffler to a chambered muffler, that’s why it’s a little quieter.
Also, I would have went with something like Magnaflow instead of chokemasters/dronemasters.
It's only quieter in the cab and it's way louder out the tailpipe than the glasspacks, which is perfect for what I wanted. Magnaflow doesn't sell a kit for this vehicle (why not???) and Flowmaster has the most kits available and the absolute best fitting bends on the market by far. Love the Magnaflow on my Jeep but the tail section from the resonator back is not as precise as my older Flowmaster American Thunder kit was. For reference ruclips.net/video/oV8w2zQAOHk/видео.html
@@AutoEdits that’s understandable. I like the sound of Flowmaster, especially on older vehicles like the square body, I just don’t like the drone that they are known for and I’ve personally experienced.
I like the deeper sound of Magnaflow but I just wish they were slightly louder.
@@bdtaylor1979 It is one of the great mysteries of the universe... trying to get that no compromise sound 🤣
@@AutoEdits yeah, 99.9999999% impossible 🤣. I’ve had more mufflers than I can remember trying to find it but hasn’t happened yet 🤷♂️
Like the tone but not loud enough for my taste
I hear ya... the easy way to change that is put the "Outlaw" cans on instead of the Super44s. Those are the one's I took the chrome tip off of and were a bit too loud on the Mustang project. Another thing I noticed is that since the pipes exit all the way out the back... the noise is projected outside the vehicle but is mellow inside.
@@AutoEdits I have an 06 Silverado but I’m currently on the search for an 87 k10. I’ve got true duals and no mufflers. I’ve got mine coming out the back at 45° angles so you can hear it a little more in the cab. Can’t wait to see what other upgrades you do on your truck.
Nice vid! What is the kit#?

Flowmasters could be cool for a vehicle that warrants it, but in many cases, the vehicles that have Flowmasters aren't worthy.
Am I first?
By a mile... you even beat me to my first comment 🤣🤣
The interior sound is quieter because the tips are aimed straight back 8 feet behind you.
Yep, and I love it for that! I just expected the cans to resonate a bit more in the cab but they didn't at all.
@@AutoEdits best of both worlds.
Did you try straight pipes
