    NOTE: Alright, guys. Echnaton was of course NOT a deity but the messenger of Aten or Aton, the actual god. This is a mistake on my part, and I apologize.

      is tengri's body the actual sky? or is he just like formless?

    • @KhansDen
      @KhansDen  2 года назад +13

      @@cpt191021 Great question. When you ask Mongolians, they might answer with "yes". But in Turkic Cosmology, Tengri was actually called Kök Tengri or Gök Tengri with full name - and Gök is the term for "sky". Tengri meant as much as "god" or "ruler", and therefore we would refer to Gök Tengri as "ruler of the sky" or "god of the sky". Thus, Tengri =/= sky itself.
      As there seems to be a connection between Tengri and Umay, Erlik and the other deities or entities, we can furthermore assume that while Tengri is not sky itself, he is simply a formless entity and invisible to the naked eye. Much like the many "sky gods" of other religions, like Dyeus of Indo-European Mythology.

    In Korean mythology, there is a god called 'Tangun', transcribed in chinese characters as 檀君. The interesting part is, that these characters sounded as 'tang-gur' in old chinese. So the original 'name' or the original 'sound' of 'Tangun檀君' is actually 'Tangur' or something similar. I think this is somewhat connected to 'Tengri'.

      Honoring the head of the Zionist movement, Theodor Herzl, with the Majeedi Medal by Sultan Abdul Hamid II, was the culmination of a long and deep friendship that Herzl described as great, after the negotiations had resulted in the Zionist movement’s support for the faltering treasury of the Sultanate and for the Sultanate’s negotiations in international forums, especially with their European creditors. In his memoirs, Herzl wrote about his relationship with Abdul Hamid and his sultanate, describing this historical moment after receiving the Majeedi Medal by saying: “When your Majesty graciously accepts the services of the Jews, they will be glad to put their forces at the disposal of a great king like you”.

      I am a Türk from Türkiye. All nations have the same no matter what other Semitic religion was forcefully thought to them. The real Semites are Hebrew, Arab, Aram, Assyrians. All other nations of the world were forcefully converted to Semitic religons (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) from their original believes back in time. Before Medieval ages majority of the world still believed their original religions and kept their cultures. Turk nation spread all across the world is secular. From Central Europe to Africa and Far east Asia to Eurasia, Türkiye. Arabic Islam, Turk Islam , Fars Islam or North African Islam are not the same with eahother. Same goes for types/sects of Christianity and Judaism among different nations. Additiionally people arent divided through religions among the world but the states and alliances and politics force religion. For example Nato forced green belt Islamism when Soviets forced atheism , Arabs and Fars goverments forced a more strict Islam over their own people for political gains. Bharat Hinduism etc. Majority of the world the people are secular. When cult like structures related to politics and goverments are allways more religious even fanatic, compared t the majority of the population.

      Also Yggdrasill, Old Norse Mimameidr, in Norse mythology, the world tree, a giant ash supporting the universe. One of its roots extended into Niflheim, the underworld; another into Jötunheim, land of the giants; and the third into Asgard, home of the gods. At its base were three wells: Urdarbrunnr (Well of Fate), from which the tree was watered by the Norns (the Fates); Hvergelmir (Roaring Kettle), in which dwelt Nidhogg, the monster that gnawed at the tree’s roots; and Mímisbrunnr (Mimir’s Well), source of wisdom, for the waters of which Odin sacrificed an eye. After Ragnarök (Doomsday), the world tree, though badly shaken, was to be the source of new life.

    • @mimszanadunstedt441
      @mimszanadunstedt441 2 года назад +3

      Tree of Life is because our ancestors hid in trees from predators, then because of their defecations magic shrooms often would spread and appear below, so people often would 'meet the divine' while resting in a tree. And they think this is what improved our visual perception enough to gain more confidence on when to go down, and helped humans to distinguish predators and prey in tall grass better. And it is perhaps a very significant part of human evolution, which is why it is so consistent. If a beaver society rose up before human society they might have a common theme of a river of life between different localities and their religions.

    • @mimszanadunstedt441
      @mimszanadunstedt441 2 года назад +1

      But beavers never would have because shrooms wouldn't grow in rivers, which is likely where they defecate.

Because while kinship names such as 'uncle', 'tagay', 'kufduk' and 'aunt' on the mother's side are found in Turkic languages, the names of relatives on the paternal side belong to a later period in Turkic dialects. Apart from this information; Kagan's decision in the state administration was not considered valid unless Hatun agreed with this decision. In Tengrism, everyone is equal. @@ogropor Tengrism cannot be derived from Turkish... -ism is not a Turkish suffix, Turkish people say "Göktengricilik" or "Göktanrıcılık" which is a false term because such term is not used for god on Bengü Taşlar.
      Now in Bengü Taşlar, we see gods like Yir-Suw, Umay Katun, people pray them, write their their names on tombs. And Bengü taşlar is not only Tonyukuk or Bilge Kağan. But there is thousands of more inscriptions like Yenisei that you should read because apparently you didn't and by saying "probably" you gave a made up information. Now your theory about Kemalists is also wrong because they mention modern polytheistic Altai myths a lot (god-like being like Ülgen) and people still believe in this polytheistic religion (that is made up according to you!) in Altai but this is not because of influence of Greeks or Turkish people... This is just Altai myths maybe with influences of Mongols (as in the example of Ülgen because he is mentioned first in Mongolian sources).

    After many years of searching and questioning the faith I was born into, I recently embraced Tengrism. It’s not so much a formal religion with a holy book, but more a way of living rooted in goodness, harmony, and respect for all living beings. It’s not punitive; instead, it encourages learning from our mistakes, caring for the environment, and supporting one another.
    This journey has brought me a sense of peace, as the heavy burden of feeling unworthy has been lifted from my shoulders. While I acknowledge the existence of evil, I choose to believe in and focus on the good. I’ve come to realize that any belief system that threatens me for making unintentional mistakes or demands material sacrifices for forgiveness doesn’t truly have my best interests at heart.
    As a Turk, 🇹🇷🇹🇷I finally feel content, striving to be a good person not because I am commanded to, but because it’s what I genuinely desire.

      I've seen comment from user "Akyaren" and he is writting this awesome mind opening information about tengri, here's what he wrote :
      "Man, I don't know if you are from a Turkic country by your accent, but you have definitely done your homework. Very well done. I am a Turkish Tengrist/Agnostic and I try to live my life in accordance with the Tengrist way. The beautiful thing about Tengri is he/she/ it (we don't have a gender-based version of those words in Turkish we just say "o" for all) doesn't need your approval, or constant prayer, or your acknowledgement that he/ she/it is the greatest. He/she/it only judges you by your good deeds regardless of who you are, where you are born, rich, poor, white, black, gay, straight, fat, skinny, none of that matters. You are not judged like in semitic religions. And equality is a really important element too. In modern Turkey we have lost the importance of equality somewhat. Yes we are a secular country but we are ruled by the Islamic people and a lot of our culture has shifted to Islamic ways. We have so much female murders and abuse in Turkey. This sort of thing would never happen under Tengrism. And yes we still practice many tengrist traditions, most people do it without knowing because of "örf, adet" meaning customs & tradition. Before the rule of law we were governed by örf. Like today, when the Muslim eid happens and they sacrifice animals, we still dip our fingers in the blood and make a mark on our foreheads. We still tie cloth at trees to make wishes, we still carry the evil eye, many things. There is a somewhat reawakening of Tengrism in Turkey nowadays. I don't think it will ever be as popular as Islam, with 90%+ of the country being Muslim, but more and more people are finding out about their ancestral religion and leaving Islam. And to everyone who newly found out about Tengrism, read more about it. You don't have to convert to Tengrism, but if you understand its teachings and philosophy, you won't need to. Also, in these difficult times I want to say Slava Ukraini for my brothers in Ukraine who are facing a horrible war against humanity by the Putin regime. You will pull through this, we will do everything we can to help you."
      And well guys, this is soo much peace way of live. Tengrism it's for higher mind kind of peoples, majority of human are very obsessed to something to defined as the greatest one, in which is formed to something entity, and taught to worship it and even force the others who's not consider or believe it as their "god" to do so, and even "satanier" (believe me that's pretty good word to describe this) things like kill and destroy the others who's don't want to become their part (cough cough *slam).. there is very Ok reasons to worship to higher entity which as we know it "god", but the taught material and the messages or the order to wreck the others to different from them, are super mankind destroyer. I'm really hope these is much more growths happens to awaken and start to becoming tengrism or any others TRUE peacefully way of life, i mean not talking about "that one" of peaceful religion, cheers 🥂

    In Hungary we still practice tengrism. In the north-western part of Hungary there is a region called “Rábaköz” where it is still a living tradition. Before our nation turned Christian, the people brought the knowledge to this place. We call shamans “Táltos”, and there has always been a chief shaman among them, whom we call “Főbácsa”. They passed down their knowledge from generation to generation. In this region we call tengrism “Yotengrit” which means “the good ocean”. Our word for god is “Isten”, if we break it down it is ‘Is’-> ‘Isz’ which means mind, ‘ten’-> ‘tenger’ which means ocean. Lot of hungarians dont know about this ancient religion and it’s knowledge. I follow the way of tengrism because it gave me that spiritual knowledge I needed in my life.

    I am admirer of Tengriism, both as one who has returned to his own ancestral faith (of my German, Flemish and Spanish ancestors before we were converted by the Church), and one who spent alot of time in Turkey and came to love that country. We the Germanic, Celtic and Iberian tribal peoples of Europe shared alot of similarities with Tengriism. As reported by Tacitus for example, we worshipped outside in the open and especially in sacred groves, and didn't portray the Deities in anthropomorphic form. Totemism and spirit animals, especially wolves (to whom there were many consecrated warrior initiates) and certain birds we shared with the Tengriists. Belief in the Sky Father, whom we gave different names (such as Germanic Ziu from *Tiwaz), coming from Indo-European *Dyeus Pater. Only the Greeks and later the Romans portrayed him in form. I am glad this video stresses the polytheism of Tengriism, because there are efforts to water down/subvert even native, nature-based faiths by turning them into monotheisms. Of course, not every spiritual being was a deity - this too we share with the Tengriists, such as the various land and nature spirits, lake and water spirits, etc..We were animists and lived in balance with Nature, of which we are a part.
    We had a cyclical view and in our cosmology, had the World Tree connecting all the various worlds or realms. Our stories such as about Wodan or Lugus, etc. express alot about traveling between these different realms with all the esoteric qualities that entails. Its interesting that we too (both Germanic and Celtic/Iberian) personified the Moon as masculine and Sun as feminine. I believe many of the similarities between ours and the Tengriists came from a primordial time when we lived side by side on the Steppes as nomads, but also just observing the cosmos and earth. I would love to see the Turkish people I came to admire, and I benefitted alot from Turkish hospitality when I was there, return to Tengriism. Just as so much of our own Paganism and Heathenry survived through folk traditions and folklore despite being Christianized outwardly, alot of the unique customs I learned about in Anatolia have nothing to do with Islam. Its Tengriist with some elements too of Indo-European traditions of Anatolia (Hittite, Phyrgian, Luwian, etc.). Turkic history long proceeded Islam and the Turks would have been a great people regardless of their conversion.

      There is no such a thing as Tengrism. It is a recent terminology. The traditional beliefs of Mongols were Shamanism. It has nothing to do with ancient Turkish people's pre-Islamic paganism, before Islam was introduced to Turkish people. Turkish people are descendants of various ethnic groups in West Asia (Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Tadjekistan, and Tatarstan) and Middle East (Levant) and Balkan region (Albania and Cyprus). This RUclips vlog will be invalidated soon by trusted scientific sources. I am Mongol from Mongolia. In addition, there is no such thing as Gokturks. Tengrism is very similar to Animism or Shamanism. We did not pray to the statues or Gods with human like figures. But only thing that was solemn or holy was nature. Tengri means the Sky. Other god that was written in inscriptions is Yir-Suw. While Yer-su means land and water in Turkish. What I mean is, our ancestors knew that it was nature that gave us life. Not a Human-Like god with magic. They respected nature and believed that miracles happen because of the soul of an ancestor, or a mountain or the Sky ! There is also Umay Katun but she appear as a deer just like Tengri appear as a wolf, so they are not similar to other mythologies. This is a much older religion like Native Americans' religion. Influences on Greek, Roman, Middle Eastern pantheons/religions cannot be seen in Tengrism. And This is why I really like it and preserve it. It's so pure. But we don't have books that tell our religion like other religions and this is a sad thing. Kam, religious Tengrists in the past, did not write its all rituals or pantheon in books. They knew Old Turkic script according to Dr. Ercilasun but they did not write...
    Today still lots of Tengrist practices continue in Turkey's villages but they don't know that these things are Tengrist and coming from pre-Islam era of history :D My grandfather was really religious muslim but when my mother told me some of their practices, I was shocked because they were the same that I read in Shamanism books :D

    Man, I don't know if you are from a Turkic country by your accent, but you have definitely done your homework. Very well done. I am a Turkish Tengrist/Agnostic and I try to live my life in accordance with the Tengrist way. The beautiful thing about Tengri is he/she/it (we don't have a gender-based version of those words in Turkish we just say "o" for all) doesn't need your approval, or constant prayer, or your acknowledgement that he/she/it is the greatest. And yes we still practice many tengrist traditions, most people do it without knowing because of ''örf, adet" meaning customs & tradition. You will pull through this, we will do everything we can to help you.

I'm really hope these is much more growths happens to awaken and start to becoming tengrism or any others TRUE peacefully way of life, i mean not talking about "that one" of peaceful religion, cheers 🥂

      1-) The murder and violence of women in Turkey today is JUSTIFIED by the religious types and the judiciary system. Before Erdogan's islamist regime, we were a lot more secularist, and we had way, WAY less violence against women. People who physically or sexually attacked women were punished harsh sentences, but now a lot of the time they actually go free. You wear a short skirt and someone rapes you? You asked for it. Your stalker kidnaps you and stabs you to death? It's happened now, let's just move on. These aren't exaggerations it's how the system has been working under the islamist rule.
      2-) You're talking about war booty, which unfortunately thousand years ago included women and slaves, there wasn't a country that didn't have that kind of thing happening. What I'm referring to is the women's position within the society. Women were free to dress how they liked, free to own property, treated as an equal to men, could rule and be tribe leaders, etc. such as Tomris Khatun, a Turkic warrior princess who was the ruler of the Saka Turks, she battled against Achaemenid Persian Empire and killed Cyrus the Great. This was at a time where women were treated like property in Europe and Middle East.

      2-) i dont quite think that pagans treated women as equal as men. As i know, women usually stayed back with childen and elderly, while men go to war. Maybe more equal than middle east, chinese and europeans at that time but don't forget that they were successors only when there was no male heir. About tomris, she was good leader but there are more paganic male leaders that were also successful, meaning males had more opportunities.

    As a Turk, this made me realize how much we’re connected to our past. Even if we don’t realize it, there are signs of our past everywhere. The word for “God” in Turkish is “Tanrı”, and it is still commonly used despite the fact that us Anatolian Turks adopted Islam and therefore the word “Allah.” (which we only use to address Allah, not other Tanrı’s). I’ve always known there were Tengrist customs and traditions that are still being practiced today, but even names such as “Kayra” (I’ve had so many friends named Kayra), Ay Ata and Gün Ana (which directly translates to Moon Ancestor/Father and Day Mother) just make me notice how much of an impact there still is. Love and respect all religions and beliefs / non-believers, Tanrı (whichever one you believe in, or don’t) loves you.

    Tengrism likely influenced or had a similar origin with the shamanistic beliefs in Korea (not sure how they are called in Korean), Taoism in China, and Shintoism in Japan. The Sinitic people also believed that there was an omnipotent and omnipresent sky god called "Tian" ("Tian" means sky), resulting in traditional idioms like "人在做天在看" (People do things but the sky is watching them). The ancient Sinitic emperors offered sacrifices to the sky each year.
    Not sure why people often group Chinese with SE Asians and imagine Chinese as rice farmers. It's true that Southern Chinese have had significant admixtures with SE Asians and rice is their staple food, however the earliest Sinitic people originated from Northern China, were millet farmers, and according to recent genetic tests on their corpses and skeletons they were closer to Koreans, Japanese, and Mongols than to Southern Chinese and SE Asians.

      That's because the stereotype was formed during the colonial era of the 1800s, when most of the western world had exposure with Chinese people only via far south seaports such as Guangzhou and various cities in Fujian province. It was impossible to access China via the north because of the Russians so the only exposure was to the southern Chinese. It didn't help that most of the Chinese who settled in the west during the last 150 years were also Southerners.
      The Russians likely has a different impression of the Chinese, where they see them as more Turkic-like peoples rather than SE Asians, they even refer to the Chinese as "Kitay", a word derived from Khitan, an ancient para-Mongolic people who lived in Manchuria and Mongolia from the 4th through 13th Century A.D. It's kind of like the blind men trying to describe what an elephant looks like.

    • @weifan9533
      @weifan9533 3 года назад +2

      @@legendarypussydestroyer6943 The western stereotype is definitely wrong, the Russian stereotype is closer to the truth. Ancient Sinitic people, according to genetic tests, were closer to Koreans, Japanese, Mongols, and some Turkic and Tungusic peoples than to Southern Chinese and SE Asians. In fact before the concept of an unified Han ethnic group had been proposed in the early Republican period, people from Guangdong and Guangxi had never been called Han or Sinitic, instead they were called "Turen" (Natives), "Liren" (Li people, possibly etymologically related to Hlai), and "Liaoren" (Liao people, possibly etymologically related to Laos). Back in the ancient and medieval eras, the name Han was only used to refer to peoples from the Yellow River region. For instance, in the 13th century Yuan Dynasty the Mongols only called Khitans, Jurchens, and Northern Sinitic as "Hanren" (Han people), but they called those from the south of Yangtse as "Nanren" (Southerners). In brief, Southern China had always been different from Northern China, and shouldn't be simply regarded as a continuation or extension of the north.

    Tengri being a god worshipped by steppe people... it makes me remember that the Indo-Europeans were a steppe people. They also worshipped a sky-father god, whose name was Dyeus. Dyeus is the ancestral deity to all Indo-European sky fathers, and they all owe their names to him. Zeus, Jupiter, Teiwaz (Týr), Devas and the Daghda are a few examples.
    Tengri may me the same as Dyeus, but not derived from him like Zeus. Tengri and Deyus might be of the same origin, a VERY ancient religion followed by VERY early humans.

      Yes. There were clearly nomadic migrations happening from the steppes to Europe and Caucasus and vice versa. Many of the Turkic traditions were influenced by the Iranic tribe of Scythians who were settled in north west Iran and migrated east in their clashes with the Achaemenid empire. The king of Persian empire "Cyrus" is called Koroush in Persian and was according to herodotus considered the "father of Persians", interestingly, we Turks have a myth about a man named Oghuz Khan who's name is Qorsho/Kurush and is the father of the Turkic peoples and lived somewhere between 800 and 900 AD. The Scythians also had many similarities in their clothing style to the Turkic according to Greek historians. Their shared usage of Horse archery and light cavalry is also an interesting point to consider. All in all Turks are Scythians who lived in middle east/Europe long ago and migrated east, only to invade back west and settle in.

The sign for that was also used toghether with other words, to simbolise its heavenly or divine nature or its divine connection. Example: Ka Dingir 𒆍𒀭 - the Gate to Heaven (Gate of Gods),
    while the same Dingir (𒀭) would appear right before a name - if that was a name of a god:
    𒀭𒊩𒌆𒄢 is Dingir Ninsun or Ninsumun - the Goddes Ninsun
    Worth noting however, that the symbol 𒀭 was used for both "Dingir" (by Sumer) and "AN" (by later Akkadians) - where An was the All-Father
    Still a great video about a religion, which also was followed by Hungarians (Magyar) - thank you
