- Will (Joseph Fiennes) struggles with the story and title for his yet-unwritten new play.
In this scene: Will Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes), Philip Henslowe (Geoffrey Rush), Christopher Marlowe (Rupert Everett)
About Shakespeare in Love:
Young Will Shakespeare is the up and coming playwright of the time, but has been disastrously struck by the bane of the writer's life - writer's block. His comedy "Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter" isn't going anywhere and the playhouse is under threat of closure. What Will needs is a muse, and she appears in the form of the beautiful and bethrothed Lady Viola. The path of true love does not run smooth for Will, but the joys and tragedy of his own life find their way onto the page in a moving, witty and spellbinding tale.
Starring, in alphabetical order: Ben Affleck, Judi Dench, Joseph Fiennes, Colin Firth, Gwyneth Paltrow, Geoffrey Rush, Tom Wilkinson

Joseph is beautiful
This is the trailer for this film. Perhaps the teaser.
Yeah cuz Romeo could've easily been from aboriginal Australia.
Joseph is so handsome, beautiful and talented. His eyes are so expressive and exquisite with long eyelashes. He is perfect for this role.
the Special today is a Pigs Foot marinated in Juniper-Berry Vinegar served on a Buckwheat Pancake
Stop, you’re making my mouth water.
This movies script is underrated I mean listen to joesephs delivery of some of those lines. They flow so good
It's not underrated, it won almost every Oscar. It's one of the most highly rated movies in history.
Someone knew what to give an Oscar to. This really was so edifying. People think it's posh shit but nothing could be further from the truth.

LOVE JOSEPH FIENNES AND RUPERT EVERETT WITH ALL MY HEART AND ALWAYS WILL
Joesph Fiennes ...did a fi-en-e job, with this "Rich" part 👏
Kit: So what is the story?
Will: Well, there is this pirate...
Kit:😶
The screenplay is so brilliant. Tom Stoppard, the great playwright, was involved. For Shakespeare lovers, there's so much to be unearthed. And while exaggerated perhaps at certain moments, much of it reflects the waysof things at the time. For example, the insignificance of the "author." If you look at the quartos of the plays, you'll see the prominence given to the producer over the writer. And at the time of writing Romeo and Juliet, Marlowe was the bigger name. The part about Marlowe coming up with the idea might not be accurate, but it reflects the idea that Shakespeare did not come up with many original stories, though of course the characterizations for the most part reflect one of his great gifts as a writer.
Everyone talking about Joseph Fiennes and Rupert Everett, but I think the barman stole the scene.
yeah there is a "jaguar's earlobes" thing going on. I consider this an honorary award for monty python.
1:36 yeah that's like how 90% of practice writers' pitches go.
The "Barman"....it´s the best.

Why Rupert Everett didn't get a credit in this movie?
He didn´t wanted to be fallowed by zombies to the late 1500's
I heard a rumor that it was a shout-out to the conspiracy theorists who claim that Marlowe wrote Shakespeare's plays.
@@danielshea2068 The great playwright Tom Stoppard who co-wrote the screenplay said they were showing Marlowe's influence on Shakespeare's career. They were the same age but Marlowe had already exploded onto the scene with epic plays. Shakespeare's early Henry VI plays are believed to be a reworking of Marlowe's plays on the subject. In the movie Shakespeare even says that to Gwyneth Paltrow's character after Marlowe is killed. Marlowe's short career had a big impact on Shakespeare even though Marlowe was killed at the young age of 29 and Shakespeare would continue to write plays into his late 40s. They must have known each other but it's unlikely that "gentle" Shakespeare would have hung out with him. Marlowe has often been described as the type of person who is "mad, bad, and dangerous to know." Sorry for the long reply but the influence Marlowe had on Shakespeare is a fascinating subject that has nothing to do with silly conspiracy theories.
@@qthelost "Mad, bad and dangerous to know' is Byron. Anyhow, given how small and tightly knit the London theatre scene was, it's very likely Will and Kit knew each other quite well. The New Oxford Shakespeare credits Kit as a co-author of the Henry VI plays, which makes sense as collaboration was very common.
Marlowe was, very likely, dangerous to know, given his suspected atheism and was probably killed by his own government.
As for the conspiracy theories, I agree that they're silly, but one can easily imagine Stoppard playing with the Marlovians.
@@crabbieappleton Yeah I know. But it's hard to read anything about Marlowe without hearing that phrase because it applies to him so well. I was just reading a good biographical article on Marlowe that was titled "Mad, Bad, and Dangerous to Know." Historian Michael Wood even used it in his documentary In Search of Shakespeare, again because the phrase fits him so well.

God, I would follow Joseph Fiennes to the moon and back. He's a gorgeous human being
I believe Everett was once the World's most beautiful man. At least, I always did find him so🙂

Shakespeare noob question: Who the f is Ethel? Is he an actual character in Romeo and Juliet? Isn't Juliet's father Lord Capulet?
Or is this some early draft of the play made up for this movie?
um... Ethel is a woman's name, traditionally, so...
"Juliet" was a much better choice 😀
(n.b. - this scene is entirely fictional)
I remember Ben Affleck saying it should be romeo and Juliet. Perhaps this was before that scene.
Yeah this is just an early draft of the play made for the movie. He changes Ethel to Juliet later in the movie.
