  • An inspirational educational video based on concepts from the Academy Award winning motion picture 'Shakespeare In Love,' starring Joseph Fiennes, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Affleck, Judi Dench, Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Tom Wilkinson.
    About Shakespeare in Love:
Young Will Shakespeare is the up and coming playwright of the time, but has been disastrously struck by the bane of the writer's life - writer's block. His comedy "Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter" isn't going anywhere and the playhouse is under threat of closure. What Will needs is a muse, and she appears in the form of the beautiful and bethrothed Lady Viola. The path of true love does not run smooth for Will, but the joys and tragedy of his own life find their way onto the page in a moving, witty and spellbinding tale.
Starring, in alphabetical order: Ben Affleck, Judi Dench, Joseph Fiennes, Colin Firth, Gwyneth Paltrow, Geoffrey Rush, Tom Wilkinson

    Great movie!
In the sense of Drama, Romance and Acting.
No arguments why it went for oscars.
Joseph fiennes has daubtlessly brought the character of Shakespeare so vibrant and vigorous, it appears larger than life and animated. Although we know so little true facts about the bard.
Viola is exquisite and utterly seems like an inspiration for 3 of Shakespeare's heroines, Viola, Juliet and Portia.
True description of life and environment of 16th century London. Marvelous costuming and music.

This was wonderful and of course no one should see this until they have seen the movie. In particular, I want to thank Gwyneth for her portrayal of Viola and her understanding of what life truly was all about in those times.
I enjoyed the movie immensely, the comedy, the settings reflecting the times and, of course, the romance. Two lines spoken by Viola in the final chapters of the movie will live with me forever and I trust you will understand no explanations are necessary: "Every word!"
And the other, "I don't know."

      I am with you there!!!
I've always had a fascination with Shakespeare, and poetry in general, thanks in part to my two older brothers, each contributing an influence on my interest and fascination with words. One brother who was just 1 year 3 months older by bringing home a poster size sheet of paper with about 16 words written on it that he had to learn for an upcoming test, two of the words were, neighborhood and eight, and I was so fascinated with the way they were spent with the "ei" standing in for the "a" sound. Later in our teens, him and I would come up with this game where we would talk in sentences of flowery words that sounded important, though they were largely made up,usually of 3 syllables or more, whenever one would stumble in a sentence and couldn't come up with the next exaggerated word, the other got a point- although,I think it was more of a compitition of wits, more than anything else-but it was damn fun!
Around the same time ,my oldest brother would introduce music from bands like Led Zeppelin, that sounded more like poetry than, just rock music, the lyrics make you think in away that the usual noise of rock and roll, just didn't do.
So I thank my two bros.for that- it just goes to shows, what you can learn from your bros.Who'd of thunk it,let alone, knows.✌😏👍❔😆😜

Но, то - что, на самом деле, связано со William Shakespeare, и философия наследия, - диктующее в произведениях, так остается открытым... Как говорил Hamlet: "Быть или не быт"?

For anyone watching this who might be frustrated with their English assignments at the moment…
I teach Intro to Theater, and use “Romeo and Juliet” to introduce students to Shakespeare.
There are a few reasons that people feel like Shakespeare is boring:
    1. The readers/actors don’t know what the words mean, and thus can’t follow the plot or understand the powerful themes clearly.
    2. The readers/listeners of the text can’t “hear” the level of artistry in the spoken words, or the intricacies of the verse.
    3. As to the above, if you remove those obstacles and STILL think it’s boring, then it just might not be your thing, and that’s okay.
If that’s the case, I’d ask you to examine what sorts of pieces of art with which you actually DO connect: what sorts of music/film/TV/video games inspire you? Identify the themes that move you in other media, and then identify the parallel themes in the plays that you’re reading so that you might feel a more personal connection to the older works.
Some themes in “R + J” that are still current: forbidden love, familial abuse, youth violence, suicide, irrational hatred for invented enemies, murder, and true passion.

I love this film. I think Shakespeare would have approved. It has all the elements that he would have enjoyed; love, comedy and tragedy. However, I would have liked them to mention the importance of the beautiful musical score too, because when it is done well, as in this film, it makes the whole thing 3 dimensional. Some clever touches in the script. The colour scheme of Elizabeth’s costumes didn’t feel right though. Too many liberties taken by the costume director. They felt out of place somehow. Fantastic acting. I admit that Gwyneth Paltrow’s English accent was so good that I forgot she was American.

You won't be dissapointed, unless you're one of those who reject knowledge in order to be cool among his mates, which hopefully you are not ! Have fun ! ;)
