Watching people react to the Beastie Boys is my new favorite youtube pastime. So many people, whether in the hip hop community or not, have no idea how good, and important they are. LL, Chuck D, Nas, Biz, Pete Rock, and so many more will tell you that Beasties are some of the best to ever do it. Not even mentioning their the best rap group ever.
Beastie Boys are one of the top selling hip hop artists of all time, in the top 10, I believe. They were the first hip hop group to have a #1 album on Billboard charts.. the fact that they only have 600k subscribers on RUclips doesn't mean much. They are one of only a handful of hip hop artists in the Roll N Roll Hall of Fame, I'm not sure you can say you'll be "shedding light on their catalogue" they are massive already.
Yeah, they are massive, but there is a whole generation that doesn't know them because they haven't done anything new since 2012 and won't be doing anything new without MCA. If people like Teez can bring them new recognition and fans, then that is great. The Beasties should be heard by all hip hop and rap fans. They were among the OGs of the genre.
The sampling here is Jeremy Steig. He's a jazz flautist. He played the flute on a Bill Evans record. I think I have every single thing Bill Evans recorded. And there is one with Jeremy Steig. So I recognized that in this song.
You should learn about them closely. About their history, directing their music videos, their alter-egos. Also their charity work and it's huge trail. They fought not only for party but for humans rights. Beastie boys world will amuse you, that's for sure. #ripmca
The Beasties (by their own admission) started off as a bunch of literal PUNKS that partied, tore up hotel rooms, saw women as objects, etc. And this was encouraged by Def Jam Records. When they broke off to do their own, they changed (grew up fast), and became super respectful to women, and became activists for a number of causes, including a FREE Tibet, etc. These cats switched styles with every single album. They have torn up the industry since 1983, and didn't quit until MCA passed away from Cancer in like 2012, I think. 4 decades, they brought Hip Hop / alternative culture to the masses!!! These guys are legends, damn near any rapper alive will back me up. Public Enemy went on tour with the Beasties and Chuck D thanked them, and he honors them all the time. They toured during the first album a lot with Run DMC, since Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin put them together and signed them to Def Jam, with LL Cool J and others. So much respect for them...and no. Not because of their skin color. Just in general. Oh...my first 3 Hip Hop cassettes I ever bought were, "License to Ill" by the Beasties, "Bigger and Deffer" by LL Cool J, and "Crushin'" by the Fat Boys (bought all at the same time when I was like 11.
You had a take a real Sure Shot during the recording, better than putting some Root Down, man you should Get It Together and quit Sabotaging your videos.
Lol... probably from drinking too much Brass Monkey.... while Fighting for His Right To Party... and getting No Sleep till Brooklyn with a guy named Paul Revere...
Mike D on Drums. Adam Horovitz slangin that guitar. MCA droppin the BASSSSSSSS. They actually PLAYED the Instruments. DONT TRY THAT AT HOME Hip Hoppers. Smoother than a Hot Dog with no Mustard.
Yes, they're all about good vibes, having fun but laying down tight grooves. Always doing shout-outs instead of fighting. I hope you get down all the way with this group, because their deep album cuts are where it's at. Try Flute Loop and Super Disco Breakin'. There's so much more to love.
Nice job. Beasties are pure hip hop. The fell in love with on the streets NYC when it was just starting to bubble. They blade their own trail they don't bite anyones steez. As for their dress when check you head came out in 1990 they influenced a decade of dress especially for surfers skaters snowboard..... The were the first wearing beanie hats they were rocking vintage adidas and puma biz markie clued them to the spot with new vintage stock shoes left over from 70s and 80s. They were early with the work wear like Dickie's and Ben Davis. Had their own line called Xtra Large. Imagine they released their first hip hop track in 1983 called Cookie Puss. They got in so early only a handful of people were doing it. Last everyone reacts to the same songs may I suggest 2 so you have some originality. Too Many Rappers Feat. Nas and/or Don't Play No Game That I can't Win Feat. Santi Gold. Thank you and Respect.
Nice reaction, Teez. Waiting for someone to go poddy was a first for me but it was raw and funny. I appreciate your appreciation for the boys. Though they did some nice live performances on Letterman, sometimes the sound mixing was sub-par by the show's production. One really good one to check out is (ironically) "Ch-Check It Out" - [Live on The Late Show with David Letterman 6-14-04]. That performance was very unique for the show but right up the boys' alley.
I really never dislike videos, because I appreciate the effort. If I were to dislike a video it would be because it was trying to be too fake, never for being too real.
God bless you bra,,, beastie boys are my alltime favorite and i loved hip hop from mid 80s to 2000! Geto boys, brothalynch, slick rick, tribe called quest, and black sheep. Love real hip hop, oh and early 90s cypress hill!!!!!
By the way I haven't listened to The Beastie Boys for a couple of years but listening to your infectious manner about them as been making me listen to their back Catalogue, Nice one!
I washed my hands guys! I swear! And y’all are right! I’ll do a better lyric and production breakdown next time! Still thoroughly enjoyed this record 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
"That guy right there" you are referring to is MIKE-D. ADROCK is the one in the white tee and black and white cap. MCA is the one in the light brown cap and flannel overshirt and has the low, raspy voice rapping about never on the mic with the pantyhose. I had to get you up on their names because you CANNOT watch the Beastie Boys without knowing who's who.
New sub.. found you thru the B Boys! 😘 Just finished going thru your previous reactions of them & LOVE watching your enjoyment. Hip hop groups from 80s & 90s ALL studied them & they were their a huge inspiration to those groups.. I grew up listening to these guys. My college roomie's ( from Queens ) brother was in their running circle and we had fun when I went home with her on breaks!! 😏 Check out: Posse in effect Slow and low Brass monkey ( a live version) Girls Hold it now hit it YOU WILL LOVE THEM ALL!! Love going down this rabbit hole with you. Love from Alabama ❣
Fun fact... its impossible to find a reaction of beastie boys where the reactor is not smiling and/or laughing Also “im not wearing pants”... 1 minute later “im sorry guys, im big on fashion”
That part about showing their respect to women was, for them, an apology of sorts from the mildly misogynistic lines on the first album. In their book, they talk about how on the first album they were pressured to amp up that kind of attitude, which never settled well with them. They wanted to make up for that so they added that line to this song.
Licensed to ill , on the 1985 RAISING HELL Tour with L.L.Cool J.Run D.M.C. n The Beastie Boys all on Rick Rubins DEF JAM Label, if you said you whrre a Big L.L.Cool J fan..
Get It Together ft. Q-Tip is the most fire track off of this album, hands down. Professor Booty is also another stellar track. The beats on Ill Communication are fucking insane.
Personally, the leaving in real time doesn't bother me at all. Mr. Video does that too and I find it hilarious at times. You should be jealous to know I have a vintage green v neck ringer T with striped ribbing but mine says "Happy St. Pat's Day" and I wear it whenever I want because I love it.
Fun fact...beastie boys were the opening act for Madonna. MADONNA. Let that sink in. It didn’t go that well though because the fan base was way off....but still. Madonna!
#teezmcgee, what other artists did your father recommend that you neglected to listen to? Also you took a "shot" in the perfect song reaction... "Sure shot"
🔥🔥. That's right whip the subs into submission, "this is what I do, or how I do things". Alright then we hear you. 🤣🤣. Just joking, nice one by the Beasties.
Teez said "they are having so much fun!!" That's one of my favorite things about the Beasties too!! ✌🎵❤
