    Rostam is smiling the whole time. He must have enjoyed Matt praising his car. I had a jetta rental car and the man was it so spacious inside and in the trunk. Then to add the GTI flare to it with the GLI. What a capable platform to start with. I love the VW GTI/GLI. I've owned a mk6 GTI DSG and currently own a mk6 golf R with APR stage 1. VW's have nice interiors and refinement for the price. Pick one up used and you get a great deal. That GLI is awesome. I'd rock that too. Nice car Rostam.

    • @smgs921
      @smgs921 9 лет назад +5

      Joe Gioia If you want an AWD VW sedan look into a B6(06-10) Passat. You won't get the 2.0T in AWD trim but you will get the more powerful better sounding 3.6 VR6 which puts out 300hp stock and sounds like a gift from the gods. It is Haldex based though

    • @JGioia12
      @JGioia12 9 лет назад +1

      I currently drive a b5.5 W8. I just think that VW should have carried on an awd sedan that is more sport focused.

    • @smgs921
      @smgs921 9 лет назад

      The B6 is fairly sporty, especially the R36 adjustable sport suspension, launch control, DSG for the 2010 and most parts that fit the GTI and Golf R are comparable. I know what you mean though. The CC isn't bad either. I love that W8 sound though.

    Just watching old Smoking Tire videos on a Friday night and this one really made my night. The dude was so pleasant and humble and Matt, being the professional that he is, enjoyed the car for what it is and didn’t let the “girl car” stigma influence his judgment. This one is definitely going in my top 5 “smiles per mile” TST videos now. It’s amazing how a simple vid with two nice guys having a good time in a little tuned VW can completely turn a car guys day around, something I really needed with the whole country losing its mind this week (and the past 4 months really).
    Anyway, I clicked on this video because my girl has a ‘17 Jetta and it’s a truly great little car. It’s her daily so we chose the 1.4t SE (which was only $169/month to lease with no money down!) and it has a premium interior that’s on par with last-gen Audis and it gets 44mpg on the highway. We live on country backroads and the independent rear suspension soaks up bumps incredibly well while also holding corners with serious confidence. It’s a great little momentum car when you push it to 7/10ths but also super comfortable and efficient. We drove all the competition that year and the Jetta easily beat the Corolla, Civic, Elantra, Forte, Focus, and Cruze in interior quality and features, ride comfort, transmission performance, full tank range, how little road and wind noise gets into the cabin, and especially looks, and it was the cheapest to lease as a bonus. We ended up liking the car so much that we bought out the lease. We’re paying just over $16k for the car once we have it paid off so that’s a heck of a bargain. Plus, it’s been 100% reliable for 40k miles. I do the regular maintenance for the car so it’s actually never been back to the dealership since the day we bought it.
    For anyone thinking of getting any Jetta to mod, there’s actually a hidden gem to look out for. Sure the GLIs are always a great choice but between ‘15-17 there was a 1.8t Sport model with the 1.8l EA888, upgraded sport suspension, special edition 17” wheels with performance tires, heated seats, sunroof, HID lights, factory Nav, and of course: contrast stitching! It’s like the modern day mk4 Wolfsburg and they’re super affordable for the feature set. What’s really cool about the 1.8t Sport is that it comes with a 5 speed manual rather than the 6 speed on the GLI, and that has a ton of advantages of you add a bunch of horsepower (like less shifts on the track, more time in the wide powerband, etc.)

    My 2013 SEL Premium has a fully loaded APR Tune done to it, it's fully customizable as in I use my cruise control stalk in my car to switch between stock 87 octane or 91 octane, or I can tune it on 93 octane or 100 octane race fuel, I'm doing 0-60 in 4.9 and running 13's in the quarter and I'm at 294hp and 276 lb-ft of torque on 100 octane race gas. I've already done a buck forty in 5th at 5 thousand rpm, and I have no governor, 600 bucks plus tax for the stage 1 APR tune, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 😉😉😉

    It seems like he really covered all the bases making still seemed refined (semi quiet exhaust, dynamat, no rubbing issues) even though its modified heavily from stock. As for GLI vs. Jetta, If I'm not mistaken the standard MKVI Jetta doesn't have the independent rear suspension like the GTI & GLI. However, the TDI is the exception in this as the diesel engined cars got the independent rear suspension like the GTI & GLI. The only difference there between Jetta TDI and GLI suspension wise would be springs and dampers. However, this may have changed for the 2015 model year as I'm not entirely sure what the new 1.8TSI cars have suspension wise.

    The ultimate sleeper car that was surprisingly fast was a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue with the 3.5l v6 (I'm sure the 3.8L or 3.8 supercharged would be even better). My dad had one and I used to drive it all the time, had a lot of torque steer but it was controllable and that stupid thing would shift into fourth at 120 from a dead stop. I pushed that thing harder than any other car I've ever driven and never once squealed the tires (well in a turn, it'd roast em if it was wet out) I did 3 wheel it once though.

    The bit about the rear suspension is true -to a point-. Until the 2014 model year, only the GLI came with multi link suspension. Lower models had trailing arms. For the 14 model year, the exterior is the same, but the cars now have the same shape soon architecture across the board, and the 2.5 is out of the lineup and replaced with a 1.8t that shares quite a bit with the GTIs 2.0.
    Source? I own a 2014 and it is leaps and bounds better than the 2011 I rode in.

      ***** ReventadorLP1500-2 Likely not the K04.020 (20 series) turbo from the TT225, which won't bolt up to K03 manifold and requires a lot of other supporting mods. It's probably the slightly smaller K04.001 from Borg Warner, which does drop straight in and just needs a tune to run correctly. Realistically this car's probably closer to 280 crank HP, but who knows.

    • @MrNicholg
      @MrNicholg 9 лет назад +1

      Casey Weaver It definitely has more than 280 crank, considering with a tune, intake, exhaust alone gives the MK6 2.0T engines around 270bhp. With the slightly larger k04, I'd bet he makes about 315-330 at the crank.

I have the gti (basically same car in a hatchback body). the problem with these cars is the rev hang that VW built into the cars. the short shifter is useless because you have to wait for the revs to die down anyways. I'm thinking about getting the bilstein coilovers for my ride because of what matt said about this car

    This GLI is too clean. Love the wheels and the stance.

    People are asking why Jetta, why Jetta, for what I care, he can invest the money in a Citroen Saxo. Does it matter? He likes the car and I got to say, it certainly looks nice especially when here (In Europe) a lot of people F*ck these cars up.

    I have two friends making north of 350whp on 93oct k04 TSI. I wonder why he isnt making north of 300whp. I know in Ca the ailable fuel is 91oct, maybe a meth kit can help. I didnt see a throttle pipe on his wheelwell page. I rec BSH throttle pipe. Nice setup on the car, done right.

      AR Taken GLI owner here, definitely considering a water/meth kit. However, when I mix in 3 gallons of E85 with a full tank of 91 octane fuel, the car performs much better. On this specific day, it was quite warm, and there was heatsoak. Plus the A/C was on

      AR Taken Probably a combination of a few things, crappy cali fuel, likely a conservative APR tune and how these cars handle power makes them extremely smooth so they don't always feel quick even if they are. My Passat with 2.0T(same basic engine but older design) feels the exact same going 80mph as it does going 135mph. W/M would definitely help though

      Rost Frost Youre in Cali, GIAC is based in Cali, you could get a test/trial one day tune from GIAC to see if you like it better. If you dont just get flashed back to APR.. GIAC is tuned not only smoother than APR but also better power. btw I really like the setup, first thing i noticed was the grill .. nice touch.

    • @smgs921
      @smgs921 9 лет назад

      AR Taken I would not say giac is smoother and it really depends on which engine you have. Giac is much better on the older 1.8t but Apr and united motorsports have invested a lot more and make better power on the 2.0t

    • @ARTaken007
      @ARTaken007 9 лет назад

      smgs921 I have the same motor in this GLi, I have GIAC tune. Ive driven APR and UNi. I can tell you from personal experience that the GIAC is smoother and has better top end.

    I can see people going GLI instead of Audi for price reasons but why not GTI? Both are very similar in price, except GTI has more aftermarket support and better driving dynamics stock

    Very nice Jetta, I used to own a Seat leon Cupra and I know how much fun you can have with a modified turbo . but for this much cash right now I would go with a BMW 335i .

    the thing is, is that if he bought it new last year, with the K04 turbo that negates all of your warranty for the engine. And doesn't even have a intercooler for it, so that WILL create problems down the line.

    The GLI is just below A4 or 3series but $12k cheaper, cheaper taxes and cheaper insurance. GLI rocks.
