I tried out the AP2 714 and the APEX irons on the launch monitor. The APEX Irons were consistently longer and easier to target. Not by a lot but enough for me to make a decision to buy the APEX irons. The 6, 5 and 4 irons are longer by 5+ yards and very easy to hit from anywhere on the course. They both feel solid and smooth at impact.
Are the Callaway Apex irons in any way a reincarnation of the old Hogan Apex irons? I get crap from all my buddies for using my old worn Hogans but I love how they play. I thought the Hogan company was bought by Callaway a while ago but am not sure. Any information on the topic will help in my search of a new set of irons.
Just a note Matthew, most of your videos seem to have volume or noise coming through on the right side, not sure if it's something to do with youtube, however when the video s almost finished I get volume or noise on both sides. Not sure why that's happening.
Hey Matt great review thank you! I am making what seems to be a big upgrade from my 2006 big Berthas to potentially the apex. I am about a 10 handicap, do you think I will have a problem controlling the apex? The berthas are a bit forgiving if I'm correct. Thank you so much!
Like your reviews. Help me out here. I was all set on the AP2s, then the Apex's caught my attention --and then the Apex Pros Which are easier to hit (and higher launching in your opinion --tha AP2s or the Apex pros?
have tried loads of trial clubs at my local range over the years. Seriously nothing has impressed me as much as the Apex forged irons. I can shape them anyway I want and the distance - wow. Took the 6 iron to my course - par three 185 yards - my mates were like 'no chance, you will never hit that thing 185 up hill to the green' They had their utilities out (one even had a choked down 3 wood). Good to walk of with any easy par after just missing the birdie............ok its a 5 iron in loft but they didn't know that - love that it gets in their heads that I can hit this thing that far - getting measured up on the trackman on Friday - intend to order these after the fitting.
Hi, i have the 2013 AP2 712's and when hit correctly they feel like butter. The club head is smaller but their surprisingly easy to hit. I am not a low handicapper and tested a lot of clubs, and these were actually the longest, Callaway's came in second, just love how they feel when hit, hit em and you'll know what i mean.
Hi there I notice on your review that when you sum up at the end and rotate the club in front of the camera the Apex Iron has a bored through shaft like lots of previous Callaway irons. I remember my old Big Bertha irons had this. However my new set of Apex irons do not have the bore through so how come yours do on the video??
Hey Matthew, I'm in the market for a new set of irons this year. I'm a 6 handicap and narrowed down to Callaway Apex and Nike covert 2.0 forged irons, which would you choose? Thanks and keep up the good work.
I have issues with " tennis elbow" wich graphite shaft do you recommend for the Apex? My " RAZR Callaways are 300s and my elbows are suffering 10 HDCP.
I'm a believer in the Recoil shafts. I've been playing them in my Apex irons since July (660, F3 stiffness) and I couldn't be happier. I play stiff shafts in my hybrids and woods, but the regular flex performs admirably in my irons. Top priority, get fitted. With the extra cost, and the various options of weight and stiffness, get the right shafts the first time, rather than forever tinkering. You'll save money in the long run.
***** My HC is at 5. Playing with 710 AP2. Looking to upgrade. Demoed the Apex irons and really liked them. But have heard a lot about the MP64 and the MP54. Just need a little guidance.
Hi Matt, Am planning on buying apex iron set and with graphite shatfs. I am wondering about including the AW in the set, or should I keep to my Mack Daddy 2 52 degree and just get up to PW for the apex? What are your thoughts?
Ive tested the apex pro a few weeks ago, looks sleek at adress and was very nice to hit. But if id go with the apex i would choose the non pro version. i love your reviews, maybe you should do a in the bag. i bet you are a nike player, like me. :-)
Jeez Matthew, isn't it about time you put a set of those Apex in your bag???? Haven't seen you hit a ball with them, that you haven't tried to hit. They seem to do everything you've asked of them?

Love the additional details. Keep up the great reviews.
Thank you!
Wouldn't a comparison with Apex Pro been more accurate? 712 vs Apex and 714 vs Apex Pro?
Brjann Brekkan no
thanks a bunch, im getting for either apex pro's or ap2's on thursday.
Good luck with it!
Love the Apex irons. Great review. Bought the 3-pw and now have to wait for ths snow to melt.
Ha ha! enjoy when it does!

I would not say they look like the Hogan apex. But you would not be disappointed with them if upgrading!

Thank you for the info, I will look into it!
Nice review Matthew i tried some AP2 the other day dont know if they were 712 or 714 but they feel really nice.
Thank you!
Hi Matthew! Great review, would you say the apex is "fatter" than the AP2 or they are pretty similar in looks when it comes to the top line?
I would say similar in looks!
Excellent review as always.
Thank you!

Thank you!, the Apex are an awesome Iron, you will not have a problem with controlling them!

like your review.... it helps. Do you have a review with the driver. between Ping i5 and tailor-made sldr? thanks

Mine is a demo iron, I can install different shafts in the same head

I like them both the Nike are more progressive and the Callaway feel more powerful.
Great review ! One thing I would like you to do, is an address view of the clubs? So we can compare looks
Thanks....
Thank you, I will!
Great review, would like to see apex vs. nike covert forged 2.0. I think they are very similar clubs, forged/game improvement category.
Thanks
Thank you, Yes I will!
I have issues with " tennis elbow" wich graphite shaft do you recommend for the Apex? My " RAZR Callaways are 300s and my elbows are suffering 10 HDCP.
The recoil is a good shaft!

I need to change my wedge this year titleist sm5 or nike vr forged ?
Not seen the SM5 but the VR sits well at address
Top review Matt 👍
Thank you!
Nice review
Thank you!
Between the two, which iron do you prefer?
Apex
Love my AP 2 with project x shafts.
What are your thoughts on Apex vs MP-64?
The MP64 would be harder to hit but more workable and lower flight
***** My HC is at 5. Playing with 710 AP2. Looking to upgrade. Demoed the Apex irons and really liked them. But have heard a lot about the MP64 and the MP54. Just need a little guidance.
The MP's would be a progressive move forward from the AP2
Thanks!!! Well done!!!
Cheers!
Which iron did you prefer?
Loving the Apex at the moment! I need the forgiveness!!
Hi Matt,
Am planning on buying apex iron set and with graphite shatfs. I am wondering about including the AW in the set, or should I keep to my Mack Daddy 2 52 degree and just get up to PW for the apex? What are your thoughts?
I like the act when you draw the ball.
chi chi rodriguez!!

They have performed well! Two of my work colleagues have just ordered them
IT NEEDED TO BE AP1 VS THAT OR APEX PRO VS AP2
I will be comparing as well!
apex iron Always!!
Well done. Thank you!
