I spent about 2 hrs yesterday at my club doing a club fitting. I hit them all. AP2, Apex Pro, Ping, Mizuno and the Forged Nike. We put the Apex Pro shaft in the Apex and it performed better than everything. I was able to get about 5200 rpm on the 6 iron on the track man at the club. Can't wait for this golf season now!
Best irons I have ever used. Had them for ~8 months now and couldn't be more pleased. I love them so much, here I am re-watching this video anyway. They feel, sound, and look fantastic. I highly recommend them... (13 ghin handicap)
Absolutely amazing irons. For any one on the fence about these clubs, (high or low handicap) they are worth every penny. I have about 15 rounds in and still can't believe how good these clubs feel. Beautiful sound, great control and feel. Thanks for the review Mark!
Ordered these with UST Recoil shafts fantastic given me 15-20 yards on a 6 iron. Just love them. Tried Titleist AP1, Mizuno JPX EZ Forged , Speedblades and I20's in swing studio and on range. IMHO Blew them all away and great feel.
These irons are perfect for mid to low handicappers who still need some forgiveness but like the looks and feel of a forged blade/players iron. I had these fit with a stiff shaft and +1 degree of lie, and i gained a club and a half in distance over my last set of RBZ irons. The dispersion was also surprisingly low. These are great clubs and I would highly recommend them.
Just bought a combo set: 4-6 Apex, 7-P Apex Pro. Very solid set of clubs! Extremely forgiving and provides maximum yardage for a players capability. Highly recommend!
Fantastic irons...I gained 12 yards with a 6-iron and GS 95 S300 shafts over my vr pro combos and still had tight dispersion and consistent distances. Cally has a winner here!
I recently bought a set of these irons and they are great. Firstly I have had my first ever hole in one, won the second division medal - moved up to division one, then came second in the next medal. Seriously my iron play has changed dramatically in terms of distance and accuracy. I bought the 4 - AW set. At the range today and my PW was going 135 yards!
I hit these at the golf show in my area back in February, while I did not have a launch monitor for the numbers. But side by side comparing the feel, sound, and look with JPX EZ, TM speedblade, I absolutely love the APEX. These would be #1 on my wishlist, now if I could just win the lotto....
I bought these with the KBS TOUR c-taper 130X shaft, and they are just amazing!! Best shaft and club I have ever played. I play at 8,2 hcp, so for "low" hcp players, they are fantastic! It gave me at least 10-15meters with extra length to each club!!
I have these irons in my bag and just love them. The feel solid but not too solid. Recently had a tee shot go right into some trees and was able to hit 177 yard high draw with a 7 iron (normally would use a 6 for this type of shot) out and over the trees to within 5 feet on an elevated green and I typically have a hard time hitting a draw. Can't say enough about these clubs, they are just awesome.
I recently purchased these clubs. I am a 3 handicap and spent no less than 4hrs over 3 sessions with my fitter. I switched from the original AP2's with Project X 5.5 shafts. Things to note, the True Temper XP95 stock shaft in this club is absolutely fabulous!!! I can't state this enough. I demoed these with KPS, Nipon, Project X Flighted 95, etc. When you migrate away from this TT XP95, distances come back to normal. TT has a great shaft on their hands in the XP95. Its high launch, high spinning but doesn't balloon. I'm expecting you'll see everyone offer this shaft soon. Secondly, you can't build a blended set with the Apex Pro and Apex and keep the XP95 shafts. This is extremely sad, because they look great together. The Apex iron is paralleled tipped, Apex Pro is tapered. In addition, the Apex iron are 3 degree stronger than the Pro's. You will end up bending the hell out of your Apex Pro, thus messing with the bounce, in order for it to gap properly. Plus, you will need to carry a different shaft in the Pro's. I found the Project X95 was the closest in feel, weight and flight characteristics. I ultimately decided to carry the Apex down to a PW. The dispersion was much tighter than the Pro's and 3/4 swings with the Apex hit some pretty key distances for me in the lower irons. Bottom line...you have to hit these clubs. The feel, distance, look and sound are one of a kind. I've carried Titleist irons for 25 years, and now I'm in a set of Callaway Apex.
The entire KBS line felt very stiff to me. I'm 85mph with my 6 iron. I was excited to try the KBS Tour 90, but I would say it was my least favorite in the KBS line. The Project X95 was my second favorite. Good feel, not desperately firm, like the original Project X, but its flighted, so in a players club the trajectory should be down in the 8-pw.
Great Irons, just tested and purchased after a fitting with Doug Emma at True Spec Golf in NYC, fantastic feel and distance. Many thanks for the review. Neil T
Epic club. Surely going in your bag Mark? :) As for earlier comments on spin: I changed out the shock shaft to a Project Xi - no up charge from Callaway - and got the desired spin.
I've been waiting for this review for a while. So glad to hear that you like them a much as I do. The distance from these is truly amazing, at least for myself. Definitely going to pick these up soon for the start of the season.
Attended a Callaway Demo Day today -- honestly, I thought I had found the best iron ever when I bought my 800 Pro's -- but the feel, weight, length, flight of the Apex truly blew me away! I still love my 800 Pro's, but these Apexes are at least as nice and very powerful and workable.
Ive had my X20's for 7 years now and i still truly love them, shot 79 today and I'm happy but i feel its time to move on and I'm always terrified incase i move to the wrong club for my swing and regret it but i think i will just go for the apex irons as the reviews seem excellent.
I had my eye on these irons for a while. Finally made the switch yesterday from my callaway x20 tour irons. I averaged about ten yards farther carry on the Apex. Can't wait to hit them on a course soon!
+Sam Parker I found them to be just as forgiving as my x20 tours; maybe not as forgiving direction wise, but I didn't lose as much distance on miss hits. I'm trying to get adjusted to the feel; more muted for me on impact, but it can definitely tell (or hear at least) when I've absolutely nailed a shot
I went to the store to buy AP2's. I tried Titleist AP2, Mizuno JPX850 forged, Mizuno EZ Forged, Callaway XR Pro and Callaway Apex. The Apexes were easily the best feeling of those for me. By far the easiest to hit and maybe second to the JPX850 Forged when I hit it flush. It was close, but it's hard to beat Mizuno when you strike it perfectly. I just bought a set of the Apexes today, can't wait to retire my 15 year old DCI981s and take the Apexes to the course.
So, I just spent my Christmas present at the Galaxy. I spent about 2 hours hitting a dozen different clubs. I ended up choosing these honeys. I am a mid/high handicapper (ex softball player) and for me they felt like I was hitting a home run with every swing. I've been holding out for about 15 years playing my Titleist DCI Blacks so the jump in technology was huge. I did the custom fitting and ended up with a +.5 in length, and +2 lie in the KBS C tapered S shafts. On the simulator I was carrying the 6 185 yards and dead down the middle, that's a 15 to 20 yard gain and way more accurate All that being said when I get them in 2-3 weeks and get a few rounds under my belt I hope I am as pleased. For now they are a beautiful looking club with great balance/feel and a sound that is just phenomenal. I'm on pins and needles waiting to play them.
awesome irons, bought a set today. Spin speeds were so much more consistent than anything else i tried (Mizunos etc), and was getting 8-9 yes further with a 7 iron than others i tried. Forgiving yes, but they really leap off the face, and in a good way. Cannot wait to take them out on the course tomorrow.
The Callaway APEX will def be my next set of Callaway's, such a beautiful club, currently using the RAZR X Blacks and RAZR X HL's...............LOVE LOVE LOVE Callaway Golf,@Mark Crossfield love your videos, by far the best golf club reviews on RUclips
I've definitely hit and seen these irons often being that I work at a serious club, and I have to say, mark isn't kidding with the lines, the x forged is the same way, they are both white completely and they look fantastic down by the ball
mark - thx for all your reviews. you do a great job, lots of very helpful info. been playing mp54's (w/ kbs tour reg flex) since last fall. 63yrs old, elbows deciding to start hurting a bit. went shopping thinking i would FOR SURE get something with a graphite shaft in it. tried everything, saved the apex pro for last. i liked it a lot. went back the next day and looked at and hit the regular (non pro) apex forged. WOW. not ugly at all, hardly any offset. very forgiving (noticeably more so than the apex pro). but the BIG SURPRISE was that i DID NOT LIKE graphite in any of the irons i tried. TOO DULL, TOO MUTED, NO FEEL. whereas the TT XP95 shaft FELT GREAT! SMOOTH! just the right weight. just to be on the safe side i have ordered one 8iron from callaway w/ reg flex (i went thru the mizzie shaft-fit procedure). if i like it (as i expect i will), i'll fill the set. may even add the gap and sand wedge options. CHEERS
Hit some at the local golf Smith store. Wow. These irons are hot. I'm a 170 yard 6 iron guy with muscle back blades, but the apex was 205-207 on the launch monitor.
Thats the juiced Golfsmith / Golf Galaxy launch monitors for you (they'll admit if if you ask them). You'll pick up an easy 10-12 over your current six iron on the course.
Friend of mine has these had a hit with them the other day and they are an awesome iron with a great feel if I wasn't so ping bias on irons I'd be getting the pro version
I have these irons. I'm 17 and can hit the 7 iron on these clubs 160 compared to a ping eye set 7 iron 145. About a 16 handicap, not the best player but these irons are the best clubs over ever used. Along with titleist 913 fairway woods and an r9 driver.
Mark I think your heigh issue is probably due to the cranked loft. I'm going to get a combo set of 4-6 apex and 7-pw apex pro. Callaway will weaken the lofts of the apex to match the pros as well. Can't wait. Great review.
Lovely looking club, what are the comparisons in spin/distance and playability with the rocketbladze tours? I find the Taylormades feel very firm off the face
Mark, thanks for your great videos. Could you please compare the Callaway Apex irons to the new Callaway XR pro irons? That would be a very helpful comparison. Thanks and keep the informative videos coming.
Mark... which would you prefer X-forged or Apex? Used to play Hogan Apex Plus irons and Callaway Apex are nothing like those, for those that think Callaway's purchase of Hogan was going to result in Hogan like clubs. Just went and hit X-forged vs Apex... winner was going to go against Ping S55 for purchase, but decided nothing will be better than the Apex (I have never purchased a Callaway iron). Both X-forged and Apex are great feeling clubs (Apex a little "clickier"). Distances between the two were about the same (Apex maybe 1-2 yards longer carry) with dead center face contact. I would comment on forgiveness between the two but truth is I hit the Apex in dead center almost every time (only a few just off the center) and struggled to do so consistently with X-forged. Can say X-Forged should only be for the low single handicapper. Apex felt a little heavier which I liked and gave me a better sense of the club head. I will be putting it in the bag. Both were stock and standard everything from Callaway. Just wanted to give some constructive comments for anyone debating the two and get any other feedback.
Hey mark. I enjoy watching your videos and they help me a lot. I'm a power hitter and I have a tremendous gap in my irons/wedges (pitching wedge - 165 yards / 52 wedge - 120 yards). Can you do a video on how to properly "knock down" clubs like you do in your vlogs? I always seem to still hit it the normal distances even with half swings. Any help is appreciated.
***** Very good advise. One thing I would add too is to look at the shafts in your PW and higher lofted wedges. I have X-hot pros 45* PW and 50* AW with Project X flighted shafts. My wedges are Titleist Vokey, with standard shafts. I had a club fitter test all my clubs and he told me that the wedge shafts play a bit firmer than the rest of my irons. You may want to try testing your wedges with the same shafts as your irons. Just an idea. Hope you get it worked out.
hi mark, and thanks for this excellent review, would love a comparison between apes, i25 and ap2:s. it seems from your videos that the distances are actually spot on between these, would like to know if you have any other factors that separates these
hi mark, thnks, excellent review what is your take on this vs ap2? and possibly I25. from your other videos, it seems these 3 all carry same distance? when i was trying these out, i got too high launch with apex and i25 while the ap2 kept the ball down under the 20 degrees launch angle (for 6 irons). also, i encountered som "hot" shots with the apex that flew 12-15 yards more than the others. love to get your feedback on this
I use the Callaway Diablo forged irons now. I have always liked them well. Good distance and playable. I did try the X Callaway and I didn't especially like the shaft. The Diablo used a Uniflex 1100GH (S) shaft. However, I don't know what that compares to now. Does anyone?
Dear mark, I have G15 irons and I want to change my irons. My handicap is 19. I have tried the apex irons and they go further with more back spin!! Can you please do a video on your yardage difference between these two irons! Please Please Please do a vidoe.
Hi Mark, would you say these irons are suited for mid or low handicappers? I am playing off a 14 but over the winter have been working with my pro and he has improved my ball striking and now I'm thinking about a change this season...been using the XHots for past 4 years and starting to get the itch for a change between these or the XR's.
+Jim McGirr I would say they suit perfectly for mid to low hcps. These have been in my bag for a year now, I was 15hcp when I got them and I absolutely love them! They offer very nice forgiving for a forged iron and feel great when hit off the sweetspot. I also love the looks of them, not too small, not too big. Perfect iron in my opinion!
Hi Mark, great reviews, love your videos. How do you think these compare forgiveness wise to the TM Rocketbladez tour irons? I need help on days when I'm not striking it well :)
Not speaking for Mark, but the Apex gives a golfer more help with mishits and a bit more distance off the face, it will give you a slightly higher launch angle (but not by much) as oppose to the Pro version giving you a little help but not as much and a slightly lower launch angle. The Pro version needs a more reliable contact so is more a single figure players club as a generalization, the Apex more forgiving so gives a bit more help.
yeah this seems to be the trend thats why they all claim to have more distance cause they roll out. Can't speak for everyone but I like my irons to "bite" quite fast on greens. I love having a lot of spin on my irons
***** To be fair, these lower spin rates are also giving big carry numbers too. But you are right, playing on a Links Course going into a green with the long irons is going to be very difficult to control the ball into the Greens, and greens that have water or hazards around them, in the Summer when they are firm are going to murder to hold with long irons. Like you, I'd gladly sacrifice some distance with an iron, for some extra spin to hold the greens, and not have so much roll out.
Swelex SoSl So, a ball being hit with a PW @ 9000rpm will be more affected by wind than a ball hit by a 4 iron @ 4000rpm?? Sorry, that is simply untrue. The is no Physics behind that. The ball won't grab so much on landing because the ball has come into the Green at a shallower decent angle with less spin too, and this can be a problem on firmer greens with longer irons. The wind affect is irrelevant to the equation. Take a look at the average PGA Tour numbers and the average spin rates with a 6 iron is 6231rpm, Marks' was 4177rpm, decent angle was 45* with Mark, and 50* average on Tour, the combination of these two factors result in more run out on the Greens with this type of Iron. If the wind was 'grabbing' a ball with more spin, then I would think the guys on Tour who do this for a living would be aware of it, and bemoaning the inaccuracies with their Irons. To be fair though, Mark did say, he would want to tweak these numbers to suit him. People are becoming obsessed with distance, and fooled by the OEM's Marketing and their ego's, forgetting the game is about accuracy in getting a little ball into a very small hole. Spin can be your friend, so use it when its there to help, even if that means giving up a few yards, and it perhaps hurting ones ego a little. The number put on the scorecard will be a great healer for that ego damage!
Hello Mark Crossfield Mark Campbell here I was hoping you could check my swing out and give me tips haha tho I cant figure out how to send it to you so pop over to my channel and have a look thanks brother
Mark, if responses to comments are too much to ask, then you are what us Americans refer to as a Diva. Maybe your too good to respond to your followers.

I agree they are hot. My 6 iron is my 170 club too, and at my coach's studio I was hitting the Apex 6 iron 190-195.

Lovely looking club, what are the comparisons in spin/distance and playability with the rocketbladze tours? I find the Taylormades feel very firm off the face
what shaft did you have in the 6i? and what shaft options are there when purchasing a set?
Would this be the mizuno mp54 or jpx 825 pro equivalent.
Thoughts on Apex compared to the JPX EZ Forged and Nike Covert Forged?
I just bought these. Good video. My numbers were essentially the same. +14 yards over my MP52 (and tested MP54).
Mark, thanks for your great videos. Could you please compare the Callaway Apex irons to the new Callaway XR pro irons? That would be a very helpful comparison. Thanks and keep the informative videos coming.
Hi Mark,

any chance of a review with the recoil shaft in it, thanks

You may want to try testing your wedges with the same shafts as your irons.
Just an idea. Hope you get it worked out.
hi mark, and thanks for this excellent review, would love a comparison between apes, i25 and ap2:s. it seems from your videos that the distances are actually spot on between these, would like to know if you have any other factors that separates these
hi mark, thnks, excellent review what is your take on this vs ap2? and possibly I25. from your other videos, it seems these 3 all carry same distance? when i was trying these out, i got too high launch with apex and i25 while the ap2 kept the ball down under the 20 degrees launch angle (for 6 irons). also, i encountered som "hot" shots with the apex that flew 12-15 yards more than the others. love to get your feedback on this
Have you ever tried the Cobra S3 Pro irons?
Mark, bag these Apex irons. Cranked up distances with a forged feel and very good looks. No brainer, surely?
hi mark, im a 15 hcp, i want to now if the apex pro is a club for me( im a felling player). can you recomend me a set of irons??
I use the Callaway Diablo forged irons now. I have always liked them well. Good distance and playable. I did try the X Callaway and I didn't especially like the shaft. The Diablo used a Uniflex 1100GH (S) shaft. However, I don't know what that compares to now. Does anyone?
so what are the apex irons market 28 handicap 20? handicap ?lower ?
Mark, your opinion on Apex vs. Apex Pro?
Not speaking for Mark, but the Apex gives a golfer more help with mishits and a bit more distance off the face, it will give you a slightly higher launch angle (but not by much) as oppose to the Pro version giving you a little help but not as much and a slightly lower launch angle. The Pro version needs a more reliable contact so is more a single figure players club as a generalization, the Apex more forgiving so gives a bit more help.
Wow! Such low spin numbers yet again. Good luck trying to hold firm greens in the Summer with a 4 iron!! Lol.
yeah this seems to be the trend thats why they all claim to have more distance cause they roll out. Can't speak for everyone but I like my irons to "bite" quite fast on greens. I love having a lot of spin on my irons
*****
To be fair, these lower spin rates are also giving big carry numbers too.
***** The problem with a lot of spin, can be the height, which means that wind will "grab" the ball more.
Swelex SoSl
So, a ball being hit with a PW @ 9000rpm will be more affected by wind than a ball hit by a 4 iron @ 4000rpm??
What I meant by more spin, is higher ballflight...
played the ben hogan apex irons for years. Bit of a shame they made the topline chunky. More of a seniors club than for ambicious mid/low hcps
they sure sound like great clubs but im a mizuno man through and through haha
I generally love better players blades, but I think these are prettier than the pros.
