The only person who knows how to use the board at my school is constantly busy so I have to learn by myself essentially, this video has been the most clear and easy to understand explanation yet! Thank you for making this!
thank you so much for this! i’m a lighting designer and have been called to make a show at another school with a different type of board (this one!) than i’m used to, so this is really helpful :)
This is so helpful! Thank you so much! I'm managing a black box theatre and I'm just learning all the tech things and this is a really great tutorial to learn from.
I can certainly try that. Our lighting booth is a bit far away from the stage itself, but I'll see if I can get creative and figure out a way to show you.
Great video, I’m looking for your second part to the light board that goes over the left side of the board But I cannot find it. Is there another video?
Hi Corinne, first time Assistant Director for a High School Musical here! We have an element lighting board for our theatre, and last year we had a director who took care of lighting entirely herself. However, she is not here this year, so I am starting from scratch! This has been SO incredibly helpful. However, I do remember last year, she mentioned something about "wiping" the board before starting cues for a new show. Do you have any experience with this or knowing what exactly needs to be done when starting from scratch? Thanks SO much in advance!
Hello! I'm glad you found the video helpful! When you wipe the board, you have to repatch all of the lights again which can be very tedious. I really only recommend this if you've moved a lot of lights around. Otherwise, I wouldn't personally wipe the show. I would delete all of the cues except cue #1 (which is usually house lights or a blackout anyway). To delete cues, you push the delete button the board, and then select the cues you want to delete. You can say "delete cue 2 thru 100 enter" it will prompt you to hit enter again to ensure you want to delete them. You can also record over existing cues. So if cue #1 isn't what you want, you can set up the lights the way you want them in "live" mode, and then "record cue 1" again. It will prompt you to hit enter twice to verify that you want to record over the cue. Hope this helps!
On the bottom right of the screen there is a menu where you can turn the console off, save, save as, etc. I agree that the renaming process isn't very intuitive. Double click on save as, and then go to Show File Archive. If you keep clicking through the folders, you'll eventually be able to rename the file. You may also see numerous saves from previous shows. You'll want to delete those at some point to clear your hard drive. I also recommend saving your show to a flash drive in the event of a hard drive failure. Good luck!
On the bottom right, there is a menu where you can save, save as, etc. There should ben an option to power down your console. If you don't see that menu, look on your console, and push the display button twice. The menu should come up.

This desperate theatre teacher fervently thanks you!!!
Amazingly fast and efficient, much needed, I wish I could like this 5 times, thank you!
Thank you for sharing this. Especially great for those of us who need a hands-on approach versus reading a manual.

Glad I could help!
You're a lifesaver! Thank you! You explained it so well and gave the logic behind why it's done a particular way. That helps tremendously.

do you ever think you could do a demo/showing the lights get used?
I can certainly try that. Our lighting booth is a bit far away from the stage itself, but I'll see if I can get creative and figure out a way to show you.

Can you tell me how to rename a file. I can't seem to figure it out and the manual's directions don't seem to work.

How do you power your lighting board off?

Lovely video and a lovely women.

5:00 Uh oh did I just hear the B word?
It's true! I referred to it as a bulb instead of a lamp. :)
