    Don't forget to like and subscribe and all that other nonsense. If there's demand for it, I can put out an 'audio only' version without music/visuals; just let me know if that's something I should do.

      Thanks. Even my ads for this video got disabled because of some 'naughty bits' in the wood cut art were detected by AI as 'adult content'... which kinda sucks because this took me a week to make, and I do rely on their pittance to keep the channel running. I will try for a manual review, but the video needs 1,000 views before they will even consider it, which stunts its growth out the gate. To say the least, I'm most discouraged by this new system because it removes all incentive to exert actual effort in making good content.

    A book that I read that honored the historical approach was Edmund de Waal's The White Road. He is a Potter who works with porcelain, and did research to find the history of the making of porcelain. I think it is relevant, and perhaps similar to Alchemy. The details are fascinating: you get into the rooms of hot suffocating ovens, and etc.

    Great video, I lean towards spiritual alchemy personally. I always kind of took alchemy as a kind of "build a bear" spiritual worldview that follows an abstract interpretation of it's language and compares it to personal experiences and insights and for me has made a lot of complex concepts make sense.

    Very well done. It would be interesting to include motivation of the development of science as a way to predict or control the natural world based upon financial remuneration. That an alchemist as a hobbyist while also working as a scribe etc would be motivated very differently than a chemist or biochemaist working for Pfizer.

    I'm really intrigued by this subject matter, so thanks for this! I'm sort of using your video as a jumping-off point before I read Jung's Psychology and Alchemy, which is quite an intimidating book.

    • @TheModernHermeticist
      @TheModernHermeticist  6 лет назад +4

      As interesting as Jung might be, he may not be the right place to start understanding alchemy in and of itself - his stuff is more about using the imagery of alchemy to map the unconscious (and that isn't really what those symbols were initially intended for). In any case, it's still interesting for what it is, it's jut important not to retroject Jung into the distant past.

    My initial exposure to Alchemy was thru Carl Jung... But now I am studying the field of chemistry. Just studying chemistry is a feeling of clarity, and I daresay, ethereal elevation. So that's kind of interesting to note, as a sidebar💜

    • @subrosa4792
      @subrosa4792 4 года назад +3

      Carl Jung’s work would be considered speculative alchemy, or “armchair alchemy.” If you’re interested in chemistry, you would probably like to learn about practical alchemy as well. Practical alchemy is a very interesting subject and has many parallels with chemistry. You should search RUclips for “Robert Allen Bartlett”, he is both a chemist and an alchemist. If you’re interested in both subjects you will absolutely love his work! I don’t mean to dismiss Carl Jung, his writings to do with archetypal energies are brilliant to say the least. However, Jung is not a great starting place, it is extremely advanced. The work of Robert Bartlett and Dennis William Hauck are much better starting points for students of practical alchemy.

  • @MoreMushroomThanMan

    Alchemy is equally physical & ethereal. Alchemy is a mirror image. Alchemy is a representation of the macrocosm, reflected through the microcosm. As with all thing in this simulation, the computer created a convoluted cornucopia of conundrums such as this. All things experienced, explain both the outer & inner realities by reflection. Meditation on this is required to penetrate deeply enough to witness both the simultaneous duality & non-duality, that is inherent in all existence. Rocks into bread, & gold from lead. Allegory so intricate, that it reveals the truth upon further inspection. Good luck. 🍀

      define ethereal. I often hear people use words that sound fancy and I don't fully get the energy yet.

    I think there's some interesting stuff to be found in what the recursive retro-projection which happened at many stages in history (from Arabic to Egyptian etc.) And what that shows about the the human consciousness. Like when you don't make a separation between psychological components and chemical components, what sorts of things does the mind project, and what can those projections of the mind tell us about the nature of the mind.

    This I love. His voice is steady and the information is good, though while I can understand it, many may struggle with the bigger words.
    That was a problem that was mentioned at one point.
    This is where I do believe that having mediation between different groups or levels of understanding presenting the same information but in different styles can be beneficial.
    For example an uneducated person which I myself am but have always been a lover of reading, or was pre children, may not be able to digest all the language used.
    It's not dumbifying the information but rather considering the individual or community.
    This is where movies with a storyline and adventure within it can be beneficial.. because people can learn without realising it.. but just because because a movie is entertaining there's no reason it can't be educating aswell.
    I would suggest this is why many struggled with school.
    Not because they were stupid, but there are things can block a person from listening or wanting to learn.
    I don't have a mind that often retains large blocks of information.
    However if something means something to me then I do.
    That could suggest that the heart has a lot to do with learning not just the mind.. but how does the mind and heart work together?
    It's known they can conflict.. the heart says one thing the mind says another isn't that foreign to a lot of people.
    Determining which one to follow can be the issue or balancing between the two.
    Surely even the scientists have that at times though the emotional rendition of release of that may be very different.. for some reserve their feelings when actually caring for someone, and others shout it from the rooftops.. neither can be said to be right or wrong to the individual if that's how they feel..
    Though it can be asked why does an excited love scare people? Or is it that it's waiting for the love high to end and then what do you have?
    Feeling comes and goes.. that's normal due to stresses and other commitments.. right I need to go deal with this now.. shift into this mode emotionally and mentally...
    Fuck I digress.. alchemy is a very interesting subject though.
    I guess my question is why does interaction with another either release the positive or negative within another in such a strong way whether in the positive or negative? People obviously have certain energy levels that either do or don't work together in the same environment..
    To understand this could be a very great way to being about a genuine peace within community overall.
    The approach is subjective but not negative. His gait is good and steady, though not flat.

    Come on man, this is when science lost its way. Eliminating the very consciousness ,affecting all that is done in this realm, performing the work, results are skewed to worthless. You can't pretend half of existence doesn't exist, if that makes any sense.

      It did to me. Derived from the PIE skei (to cut, slice), science inherently relies on separation which basically deals with effects and not causes. Only the empirical has any value and anything leading up to it is brushed aside and done away with. Aside from that one free miracle, that is. *BANG*

    gonna sub cos i like hearing fellow knowledge seekers talk about their views, i am envious that i may not explain my knowledge to others it would need faith and understanding that which i find FEW are capable of, even the small occult Rudolph Stiner book club i joined, they just didn't shine with the same vibrancy i was expecting

      U can suppose science as a local alchemy...applicable but limited by the models by which it was built...it could be upgraded, but until it embraces the whole expression of reality as the model of its applicability...including spiritual dimensions and universal consciousness, within its grasps

    • @subrosa4792
      @subrosa4792 4 года назад +4

      He was saying that “according to Hume and Popper” determinism is not achievable. He wasn’t stating that as a fact or as his personal opinion. I suppose you would have to spend some time learning about their research in order to understand their conclusions. The author/narrator is giving a lecture here about different alchemists and scientists and their philosophies in the context of the history of alchemy. He’s not stating that any particular philosophy or viewpoint is correct or incorrect.

    • @brandonfuller4413
      @brandonfuller4413 2 года назад

      Saying anything proves something as true is dependant on your definition of something being proven as true, what is truth other than commonly agreed upon observed outcome? A less scientific example would be something like, if I felt sad, and told you I was sad, is it true that I am? How does the other I am communicating my emotion to know I'm being truthful? They can't know unless they are me, yet it would be unreasonable to think I am lying so it would be assumed that my sadness is true despite not being able to test and observe the emotion I'm feeling

    • @brandonfuller4413
      @brandonfuller4413 2 года назад

      Now this doesn't mean that I think truth doesn't exist and science doesn't prove anything, it points out one of the things being talked about earlier in his video, when he gave the example of newton and Einstein getting into a hypothetical argument about mass because the word meant two different things to each person due to different paradigms
