- Okay, so I've been itching to drive a number of Mercedes-Benz new models recently and today we have the opportunity to take this 2017 Mercedes Benz CLA45 AMG and put it through its paces. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline 4 producing 375 HP and 350 LB-FT of torque being sent to all four wheels through AMGs all wheel drive system. It was a great day on the straights and into the forest corners, and the car really impressed me, if only with a couple of forgettable traits.

Why am i so in love with this car
I think that inconsistency with the gearbox is just how dual-clutch transmissions work. As in the computers are always calculating the next shift you're probably going to make. So when you downshifted it was fast, but when you tried an upshift right after and while not accelerating it was slow. Since the computers expected that either you next shift will be another downshift or that you'll accelerate before wanting an upshift.

i love that mercedes actually well engineered the internals. many cars that are factory turbo dont make as much power as they should. since the engineers know they are going to slap a turbo on they under engineer the internal components, and what you get is lets say a madza protege, factory turbo making something like 140hp. but more hp than an evo or sti without much more curb weight proves they really outdid themselves with the engineering of this car. i want one. i drive a regular Mercedes now but its bucket list for me to get an amg... this might be the one.

Holy shit that's insane! 375hp from a 2.0 liter Inline-4. That's almost 200hp per liter, and 100hp per cylinder.

Sergio Aguirre notice how the ones you mention aren’t stock tho. CLA45 can reach 500+ with turbo upgrades and tuning.
Just got this car and it is really fun to drive....mashing on the pedal is an instant smile generator. I have a 2017 WRX and a 2017 Z06 ...love'em all.

I think what he meant to say is that when the car was released it had the highest output per litre of any production car ever. The EVO X FQ400 does not count as it did not leave the production line as a FQ400.

I still have my 2014 CLA 45. Just drove it from California to New York. It performed like a champ and kicked butt.. I like the 93 octane back East. I have not had to replace anything on it I never broke. I have been rough on this car, a lot rougher than my 911 Carreras, and the AMG jams on. I have hit boulders, branches, deep water and whatnot and it keeps on ticking. Not fickle. The Germans got it going on: AMG!
Hey. I saw alot of comments how CLA 45 have problems with turbo? It’s that true and did that happen to you? Alot said that turbo will broke every 3year.

First thing I'll be doing with my 2017 I'm buying next year is a muffler delete. For $900 it makes the car sound so nice even being a 4 cylinder. Have it done on my 2014 cla250 with a multitude of other upgrades and it sounds as good as a V6

At the moment i have a cla 250. Really thinking about moving on to something more agressive. Before the Cla i had a BMW 6. This car was amazing and really cool in turns. Also my cla at the moment is front wheel driving.

When in S+, the computer is still controlling the upshifts, that's why you had a delay. My C63 does the same thing

Lol just bought one, a 18 with 17k miles on it as a "winter beater". I hope it'll do it's job with the AWD paired with winter tires! Taking delivery in a week. Can't wait!

@@Ozut1 Overall yes, love it. Only annoying thing is it's kind of a dog off the line unless you use race start. It behaves like your slipping the clutch on a manual which is annoying...really my only complaint. It's f'n fast and good looking otherwise! One more thing, the infotainment system is lacking....not touch screen and kind of behind on that for the time. They've updated it now but for 2018...cmon man.
@@hellcatpekes8974 100% my thoughts man. I am tossing up between cla45 and an sq5 or s3 and although cla45 is faster, audi have had the digital dash touch screen display etc since 2016/17… its nuts it took mercedes this long to put it into their top of the range models..
I think in Canada doesn't have the A Class, in Mexico is better the A45 than the CLA 45, I don't know why Canada don't have it, basically is the same motor but with a hatch body. Regards from Mexico ;v

Shooting brake is 30kg heavier. The weight distributionis a bit better in shooting brake. The rear is a bit softer in "shooting" than in coupe or A45. It is as in GLA45. I have one not equipped with to many features so it is actually lighter than most of cla45 coupes and close to most of well packed a45. It is lifted version as on the video. Tranny had to be exchanged under warranty some years ago other than that booletproof. Sad that "shooting" was not available in US.

But thinking about it the feature inside of the car and is a luxury brand low price enter level model so is not bad. 4 cylinders like EVO is just performance or tuning, people who buy Mercedes dont just look at power, more interest at comfort, features, looks, flexing and other things. And Mercedes quality is not bad

Looks like a great car for the money. Fast. However, after driving a V8 for so many years, the sound of this 4 cylinder, as impressive as it is, doesn't do it for me.

FQ400 isn't a stock car, I mean it has a modified package that tune the evo to have 400hp..I think the stock evo 9 only got 280-300ish hp I assume?
Riza Wibawa Of course it's stock you dummy. It's just a version of the normal Evo, more powerful. Plus the 4G63 is way more tunable than the CLA45's engine.
Mitsubishi doesn't make the Evo anymore, let alone the fq400 or fq440. The CLA45 AMG is the quickest accelerating 4-cylinder car on the market today.
All things considered, a stock STi is technically faster if you even out the specs.

Yes, but AMG has to have a robust warranty and a car that won't break in the first couple of years. That's what I meant by that.
well, companies that build engines often also give some sort of warranty. but having factory tune (i dont know if we can call this engine tuned? since it was built with this ps in mind) and dealership warranty is always nice, i agree. i wonder how much more can it handle with stock internals. block is aluminium probably?

Not as quick as the numbers suggest. They run a 12.7 Quarter. A stock Audi S3 does a 12.9 with supposedly a lot less power. It should be significantly faster.

Is there a way you can turn off those crackles? Does it only do it in sport plus mode? It was getting annoying hearing it all the time. Would only love to hear it during spirited driving but not really cruising.

acmurda84 you can't say that this sounds like shit. It is on the Internet recorded with a mic so the real life sound is a huge difference. It is more a sound of a bass . It's a really dark sound and also the whole sound is like all the other mercedes v8 cars
Gearbox not the quickest. Got to be kidding. The AMG Speedshift DCT changes gear in 0.1 seconds in every gear.

it's a well know fact that an engine with more mileage on and tired loses bhp as it ages and gathers miles covered.
@@davec8730 strong as in still idles smooth, runs efficiently, no metal on metal sounds & when I put my foot down in 3rd gear, I’m doing prison speeds in 4 seconds lol. More than strong enough. Remember these come factory with forged pistons, forged rods, forged crank, closed deck. Stock hp is nothing for it

The front wheel drive CLA and GLA platform uses a different version of 4Matic, with up to 50% to the rear.
Its not the 4matic as it was before. Its basically the modern interpretation of many 4wd systems when only one axle works at the time and when the computer decides the other axle joins through the Haldex clutch. Just like SUVs. Permanent 4wd is very rare today.

SubieBoy my car does 0-60 in 4.0 secs. 12.2 quarter mile. I bet it can beat it. I've roll raced with an BMW X6 M 565hp and we were neck and neck. And I eat Subarus for breakfast. They like to race me for some reason.
Randy R Hey I saw your video and you really went nuts with the exterior. Those mods are actually making your car slower because of the added weight with no extra functionality. Also, the bodu is designed to have one of the lowest drag coefficients on the market today so adding those mods mess up the airflow.

nojo294 ya I get the point of the potential slower car.. but how much tho? 0-100 mph lacks behind by 0.1 secs or so I’m not worried about that. The look, big spoiler, side vents are already light as they are because of the carbon fiber.. it’s like adding 2-4lbs of weight to the car which is nothing. The look alone can fool people to think that it’s really fast and not to mention the crazy pop and crackle the exhaust make. It just looks good to me and I always want to stand out from the crowd.
