For the 1984 games, L.A. did something very smart and that was asking businesses to start earlier at 6am so as to get more cars off the freeways as possible. At the time, it was one of the smartest things they did, and the second thing they did was to basically tell everyone who lives in L.A. if you don't have to drive, DON'T during the games. That helped big time and the freeways were very little for the full two weeks of the games. That's what they need to do again. They will need to house the homeless and keep them off the streets like the last time when the Olympics came to town in 1984. They need to make it permanent housing actually.
Actually it wasn't that bad back then. Heck even as recently as 2010 it wasn't terrible. LA had a few areas of this population like every other city, mainly around Venice Beach, Santa Monica, and a much smaller Skid Row. But LA metro is huge--if you were a tourist before 2010, you could see a lot of parts of LA metro--Pasadena, Burbank, West Hollywood, Manhattan Beach, Anaheim, Beverly Hills, etc.--and never see a homeless person. It's somewhat still true today. Unlike San Francisco that's had that issue widespread since the 80s at least. It really started becoming a more noticeable issue in LA after 2008, and especially after Cov id in 2020.
Quite true, there were always pockets of homelessness before Covid, but it’s gotten a lot worse since. They basically set up everywhere, and the RV situation is much worse. We need to deal with the homeless people in this city, hosting millions and having them around is going to be a real issue that LA has to deal with.
Ya, both are good options. I live near Ontario Air Port, so it would be a great idea, but I'm sure L.A. would just say they have everything covered, but who knows if that will be true.
Let me correct you. Los Angeles metropolitan area has 5 airports. 1-LAX 2-Ontario Int. 3-Long Beach Airport 4-Bob Burbank Airport 5-SNA John Wayne Airport
When the mayor said car free, she was referring to getting to the various sporting events. It didn't mean there wouldn't be any cars in the city. It might not be as difficult as people think. Why? Because many of the sports venues and iconic areas of the city ARE or will be accessible via the LA Metro by the 2028 Olympicsa. The Coliseum BMO Stadium Expo Park Swim Stadium USC Galen Center Crypto Arena Convention Center Peacock Theater UCLA Olympic Village Pauley Pavilion Long Beach Arena Exposition Park Lucas Museum Space Shuttle Museum Union Station DTLA Broad Walt Disney Concert Hall Music Center Hollywood Chinese Theater Walk of Fame Universal Studios Century City Koreatown Chinatown Little Tokyo Olvera Street LACMA Petersen Museum Farmer's Market LA Brea Tar Pits Those locations will be some of the most visited locations in LA during the Olympics, and they will ALL be accessible via the LA Metro.
Did you notice the big, glaring omission from your list? So-fi Stadium (and the Kia Forum, for that matter) are not on the list, and that's where the main events for the World Cup, the Super Bowl, and the Olympics will all be held. Unfortunately *that* people mover isn't scheduled to be complete until 2030; it kept getting put on hold because businesses in the area didn't like how they'd need to close while the guideway was under construction and keep lobbying to pull funding from the project.
I worked at the 2012 Olympics. What they do is shut down key roads during the event. It's for high end customers only (read: mega rich). You won't like it. So "car free"- pfft, I don't think so unless you're referring to cars owned by the general public.
@@user-nh2bf4to7gyou got that wrong about the people mover it will be open just for the Olympics but it won’t be open to the general public until early 2030
Los Angeles does need a LOT of work. As we know, like in most places that host big events, it will just be temporary "fix". Metro system (Bus & Trains) are not always clean and definitely not safe with all the homeless and "law abiding" citizens that hop on. The traffic is horrible already around all the stadiums and arenas LA will most likely use for the Olympics. Now imagine with an influx of people. Cleaning the streets will be tough as well because everywhere you go the streets for the most part are busy and theres people living in the streets all over the place.
Fantastic video! …Do you plan to credit the writers of the articles you’ve plagiarized? Or the composers of the works amorphously pieced together? All with the explicit use of “open” AI, for your capital monetary gain?
How does that song go? "Knock down paradise and put up a parking lot?" I suppose that high speed rail from Vegas might be an option for alternative lodging and transport.
Best wishes to Los Angeles! Love the city. Hope people get their act together to move the platform to the next level. US’s infra is quite behind, which has hindered progress in people’s lives and further modernization
The biggest problem the US has is that it doesnt really have mixed use zones and medium density housing, which would create more urban centers and make public transport actually viable. Now u either have a sometimes deserted high rise cbd surrounded by low density single family homes.
The single family zones are the bane of modern city life. The easiest path to solving most of the problems associated with the “garden beautiful” movement from the late 19th century is to overhaul our present zoning codes. Transit should be expanded to include minibuses that serve local mixed use areas of medium density housing and act as feeder routes for rail and tram networks. Private cars will decline when better public transit is in place. Small businesses should be permitted in all zones especially within presently zoned for single families. This is a unique opportunity to really make constructive changes to our unlivable car-choked cities.
There are tons of these mixed use buildings. Nobody wants to live in them. I've lived in condos and townhomes most of my adult life until I bought a single family home in 2015. Nothing beats having a real back yard and knowing all your neighbors. Especially if you have kids.
A lot of the facilities have already been built. What they have to do is get the transportation (airport, between venues) infrastructure built sooner rather than later.
I like the map at 1:59, where they say that there are 4 other airports in los angeles. They show Fullerton and Van Nuys, both of which do not have commercial flights but they do not show Long Beach or Ontario, which are both great airports with lots of commercial flights.
Los angles is an amazing city with 3rd Olympic host and host World Cup of soccer and World Cup for club of soccer.los angles is a place deserve to be glory especially its infrastructure projects
Most establishments around LA metro have public bathrooms making public toilets somewhat redundant. It's not like NYC where almost no restaurant or shop has a public restroom.
At least SoFi and Metro are doing well collaborating strategic entry and exiting. I went to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour at SoFi and both public transit, self parking/ride shares have been moving efficiently and swiftly (no pun intended) in the best way possible. Interested to see how they can optimize with several thousands of fans entering and leaving the venues.
Weird how the video completely deletes two important Los Angeles airports, and added two barely used airports, and this Does not include a host of smaller airfields, including the decently large Santa Monica airport that has a lot of business jets flying in and out
That Airport map is a joke. It’s missing Long Beach and Ontario Airports. AND REALLY - Fullerton Municipal Airport is for small single engine airplanes.
LA can be ready in time. I suggest the city get the projects done at least six months before the opening of the games, and not let it sit until the last minute. They have the skill, the science, and the management to do it - they have to put it together right from the start, with no time wasted. Let's do it LA., I believe in you.
To expect LA to replicate’84 is foolish. It’s a different era & priorities are shifting. To break even on Olympic-specific projects would be a great outcome. I was there in ‘84 & it’d be great to experience the energy that was there back then!
It's worth noting that the Metro expansion and LAX upgrades both were approved and began construction before LA was even awarded the games. Their budgets are completely independent of the games. That's to say, they're not being specifically built for the Olympics. These were going to happen whether or not LA was hosting. In a post 9/11 world, it's safe to assume that security costs will easily wipe away any possibility of LA breaking even much less making a profit. I am, however, fairly optimistic that LA will have another very popular games.
They mentioned LA having four airports, but did they leave out Ontario Airport (ONT), which means the LA region is served by FIVE airports with commercial air service?
If they really wanna make a difference they should add some express lanes on the I-105 that freeway is so congested the green line does nothing to help traffic better off getting rid of it and replacing it with said express lanes
9:41 Paris is by no means smaller than LA. You're only talking about the city proper which would be like only talking about downtown LA. The Paris region Ile de France is comparable to LA size wise and has more than 12 million inhabitants
That old middle area where cars park they should build a mall so when delays do happen people can cross over to shop and lounge around trying a bunch of cool restaurants and eateries that LA has to offer from many popular ethnic foods
2:00 Los Angeles has 4 other airports? Please fix this: We have 5 Major airports: (LAX) Los Angeles, (SNA) John Wayne, (LGB) Long Beach, (ONT) Ontario, (BUR) Hollywood Burbank
@MelloCello55 We got snow. 3rd Christmas Day in a row I'll be Snowboarding in Big Bear/Snow Summit. (Greater L.A. Area) Shaun White, the Olympic Gold Medalist, grew up on these So Cal mountains.
All these infrastructure projects were planned and approved well before the Olympics were awarded. Remember, LA was originally bidding for the 2024 games not the 2028 games. All these projects would've gotten done even if LA had not been awarded the games. These projects were never Olympic specific.
And even if they do get it done, it will just be a temporary "fix", and then after they clean up some of the homelessness on the streets, it will be back to normal or worse after the events
Gee, could this be why L.A. is on fire? Just say'n . This will be L.A. rising up like the Phoenix from the ashes. Convenient that now they don't have all those pesty homeowners in their way. Prayers for those suffering from the fires. I really hope I'm wrong, but too many coincidences are pointing at this and it would be a shining example for the rest of the world to follow suit just in time for the WEF's goal of 2030.
Hollywood has never looked magical. There's a reason locals don't recommend it to tourists (there's so many more interesting places to head to, see, and explore around LA metro). But tourists insist on going to Hollywood. I did see that Hollywood wanted to revitalize the streets there adding medians, trees, greenery, etc., but last I saw that was put on hold.
LA is gonna rock way harder than Paris. We need The Dare to Launch the O.C. And none of that funky religious stuff from the artsy goth Melrose types. We'll see everyone in Hollywood for the afters.
All of the work they are doing right now are things that should have been done years ago. In other words, I am glad there is a reason to finally fix all these infrastructure problems! (Especially LAX!!! That airport is a nightmare!!!)
Time to finally build that public transport infrastructure. I lost so many friends to L.A. traffic. Literally. They all moved from L.A. and out of state because of the traffic. We actually lose highly educated and skilled human resource because of traffic. Insane.
The more long term the infrastructure becomes, the better. The airport improvements sounds great for this. The 27,000 more buses and dedicated lanes... Sounds like a nightmare. This can technically be an opportunity to build out rail that can be a "viable" long term alternative to cars if it can be designed to go - significantly - faster (including the time it gets to and from station by walking). What I see happening instead is a lowest cost temporary solution, where everything is moved back into the current travel hellscape afterwards. Ironically, this just throws away money. The better the investment for long term infrastructure use and improvement, the more money the city will recoup as well as profit. Someone should run the numbers on how much money is lost in LA from the horrible commute. And "carefully" run the numbers... Which means include things like "lost opportunities" which aren't currently on the ground today.
Now we see why things are the way they are today in LA. Prayers to all.

@@danmur2797 Its bad after newsom stepped in.
Hell yes to the permanent housing 🙏🏻🤞🏻
If people are smart they will fly into John Wayne, Burbank, or Ontario.
Ya, both are good options. I live near Ontario Air Port, so it would be a great idea, but I'm sure L.A. would just say they have everything covered, but who knows if that will be true.
Those are great, but LAX offers many more direct flights.
@@ChrisHCxxand it’s cheaper to land at LAX

Yes but Burbank is not international.
Your kingdom come. ( Jesus of Nazareth)
We need express lanes on subways that are most important and lines from Santa Monica to long beach would help.
My city …. Los Angeles will be ready!!! ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Oh really
You are part of why LA just burned to the ground.
Let me correct you. Los Angeles metropolitan area has 5 airports.
1-LAX
2-Ontario Int.
3-Long Beach Airport
4-Bob Burbank Airport
5-SNA John Wayne Airport
Im from LA and thr place already has a shit load of people. Its going to be insane seeing that many more people convergivng to LA!
The politicians just fixed their population "problems".
The Coliseum
BMO Stadium
Expo Park Swim Stadium
USC
Galen Center
Crypto Arena
Convention Center
Peacock Theater

Those locations will be some of the most visited locations in LA during the Olympics, and they will ALL be accessible via the LA Metro.
Thanks for putting together this list of Metro accessible sites.
BTW SoFi is being served be EV busses and a people mover.

How does that song go? "Knock down paradise and put up a parking lot?"
I suppose that high speed rail from Vegas might be an option for alternative lodging and transport.
It should be a little more convenient for the LA 2028 Olympic Games comparing to 1984 Olympic Games 😊
Best wishes to Los Angeles! Love the city. Hope people get their act together to move the platform to the next level. US’s infra is quite behind, which has hindered progress in people’s lives and further modernization
Yea everything is burning now in 2025!!
The biggest problem the US has is that it doesnt really have mixed use zones and medium density housing, which would create more urban centers and make public transport actually viable. Now u either have a sometimes deserted high rise cbd surrounded by low density single family homes.
We have plenty of medium density in LA.
I think they found a Solution
Did anybody else pause it at 1:08? Yeah that’s OJ holding the torch my only question is, is that A.C. Cowlings in a white Bronco behind him? 😂😂😂
10:38 What train from LAX to Santa Monica are they talking about? Maybe some time in future, not yet.
Remind me again how many public toilets the city of LA has?
Most establishments around LA metro have public bathrooms making public toilets somewhat redundant.
It's not like NYC where almost no restaurant or shop has a public restroom.

At least SoFi and Metro are doing well collaborating strategic entry and exiting. I went to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour at SoFi and both public transit, self parking/ride shares have been moving efficiently and swiftly (no pun intended) in the best way possible. Interested to see how they can optimize with several thousands of fans entering and leaving the venues.
Weird how the video completely deletes two important Los Angeles airports, and added two barely used airports, and this
Does not include a host of smaller airfields, including the decently large Santa Monica airport that has a lot of business jets flying in and out
Van Nuys and the Fullerton airports are nothing compared to Long Beach and they’re missing the Ontario airport completely as well
That Airport map is a joke. It’s missing Long Beach and Ontario Airports. AND REALLY - Fullerton Municipal Airport is for small single engine airplanes.
Also, John Wayne
Yes I would add John Wayne which is closer than some eastern airports. Also SD is going to play a major role.
Little mistake!
The train going from East LA to Santa Monica is not the A line, it is the E line(Yellow/ new gold line)
No wonder they had these fires starting😮😮
Why use AI voice? Just use your own voice!
10:38 I hope SNL does a sketch from 'The Californians' about the Olympics.
Well they did a Mormon skit when Utah hosted in 2002 since it LA Scientology jokes will definitely go in
Trust me it will be funny as hell. Best of all Los Angeles citizens will still have a good laugh with it as well.
No mention that the 84' Olympics were a private enterprise. Peter Uberoff a successful businessman was in charge. Not some government bureaucrat.
@@TheLute70 to be fair. The 2028 Olympics are also privately funded just like in 1984.
Very interesting
They mentioned LA having four airports, but did they leave out Ontario Airport (ONT), which means the LA region is served by FIVE airports with commercial air service?
Interesting 🧐
If they really wanna make a difference they should add some express lanes on the I-105 that freeway is so congested the green line does nothing to help traffic better off getting rid of it and replacing it with said express lanes
9:41 Paris is by no means smaller than LA. You're only talking about the city proper which would be like only talking about downtown LA. The Paris region Ile de France is comparable to LA size wise and has more than 12 million inhabitants
Sad for the homeless. The Homeless ALWAYS disappear in Olympic cities....... Where do they go???
That old middle area where cars park they should build a mall so when delays do happen people can cross over to shop and lounge around trying a bunch of cool restaurants and eateries that LA has to offer from many popular ethnic foods
2:00 Los Angeles has 4 other airports? Please fix this:
We have 5 Major airports: (LAX) Los Angeles, (SNA) John Wayne, (LGB) Long Beach, (ONT) Ontario, (BUR) Hollywood Burbank
John Wayne is in OC

Yeah this is definitely going over budget and over time 😂
But it will be useful for the city and a much needed improvement. So the city gets the final laugh on this.
All these infrastructure projects were planned and approved well before the Olympics were awarded. Remember, LA was originally bidding for the 2024 games not the 2028 games.
All these projects would've gotten done even if LA had not been awarded the games. These projects were never Olympic specific.
With the Problems of LA's Measure M, this comment is a giant understatement.
@@trevorthefoamer220What problems?
And even if they do get it done, it will just be a temporary "fix", and then after they clean up some of the homelessness on the streets, it will be back to normal or worse after the events
Gee, could this be why L.A. is on fire? Just say'n . This will be L.A. rising up like the Phoenix from the ashes. Convenient that now they don't have all those pesty homeowners in their way. Prayers for those suffering from the fires. I really hope I'm wrong, but too many coincidences are pointing at this and it would be a shining example for the rest of the world to follow suit just in time for the WEF's goal of 2030.
Yes look at the places that is burning and connect the dots on the LA smart city 2028
I was at Hollywood yesterday and let me tell you it does not look magical.. but I am excited to see this new changes for the Olympic!!
Hollywood is not magical at all. 😢
If the Plump Chump, is still around he could open the games!
Maybe he’ll participate in some of the events!
The ten metre high dive comes to mind!
Triple Lundy right into the living room he occupies rent-free in your mind.
LA is gonna rock way harder than Paris. We need The Dare to Launch the O.C. And none of that funky religious stuff from the artsy goth Melrose types. We'll see everyone in Hollywood for the afters.
Of course. The stage doesn't get bigger than LA!
All of the work they are doing right now are things that should have been done years ago. In other words, I am glad there is a reason to finally fix all these infrastructure problems! (Especially LAX!!! That airport is a nightmare!!!)
Just saying A line is Long Beach to Azusa not Santa Monica that’s E line
💯💯💯💯
Whose here after the fires?
Start by getting rid of homelessness. Too many people living on the streets. Also clean up the streets. The city is filthy.
And some streets are not well maintained either.
