Geddy and Alex were both 58 in this concert, Neil was 59 and this was the second encore after a three hour show. Three down only 165 more Rush tunes to go. I recommend Natural Science live at the Molson Amphitheatre next. 😊🇨🇦
You should listen to the original studio version - probably my favorite Rush tune of all time just because it's so raw and powerful. A different drummer on the original, but still superb.
Ha Ha ! Welcome to Rush. It'll probably take the rest of your life to listen to everything these masters have made. I'm 58, been a fan since I've been 17 and still working on it. You and I will need another lifetime to hear it all again just to catch what you missed. There will never be another.
🤔 Your comments about the Professors Drum Kit means ...... 🤗 You're ready for Neil Peart Drum Solo (Live in Frankfurt) Video. That last few bars was from a very popular (to rabid fans) Rush tune that was rarely played in full at this point. 🤔Rush "Best Intro Ever/The Spirit of Radio" Live Video starts with Rush combining 40 yrs of their songs into 1 MASSIVE intro to Spirit of Radio. Lucky enough to see them do it in NYC at Madison Square Garden! 🥰🐰
You should watch “Dinner with Rush” from a documentary that was done on the band. It really shows their goofy personalities and what close friends they are.
Yes! Great crowd response -- the Cleveland show was great -- BUT...you HAVE TO see the song called "YYZ", played live from Rio!! Rush in Rio is nothing short of incredible! You will not believe the YYZ performance in RIO!! Do it!!
🤗 More Rush! 🤩 Cool Beans! La Villa was played right before they played this as a finale/encore! 🤯 After a 3 hr show! 😒 Which always amazed me cause after 3 hrs I could barely make it out the Stadium and home 20 minutes away! ☺ Wish I was joking. At least I no longer had to go to school the next day anymore and could call in sick or take a personal work day! 🥰🐰
Just shy of 60 years old, at the end of a 3 hour show (all them, no other opening act) and they can still rock harder than kids half their age! 🤔. Since you seem to really dig Geddy's bass I'm going to recommend Leave That Thing Alone from this same show!
Hope you'll consider reacting to Rush performing "Spirit Of Radio" live in Toronto in 2003 in front of 500,000 fans. They open the song with a short instrumental version of "Paint It Black" in tribute to the Rolling Stones as it segues into a blistering version of "Spirit Of Radio". It is an amazing live performance!
The song they played just before this was Lavilla strangiato. That's how they ended the night. You'll need to see that live version as well, it's just as good.
My favorite live performance of La Villa. Funny how they could change two of my favorite songs with both a polka and reggae intro and make them just as enjoyable as the studio versions.
😂 I can not tell you how many reaction videos I've watched for this tune. What I love about this particular song/video is that the crowd is absolutely going bonkers, at the point where this starts to go off the rails crazy the Professor is just sitting back there like it's just another day in the park and that the boys can pull a song from their very first record and it be the closer in such a unique way 😁👍🤘Cheers to RUSH and all the fans (new 😉and old)🍻😁👏👍🤘🎶🎸🎹🥁🍁
Alex’s solo on the original studio version is even more amazing if you can believe that. The original drummer John Rutsey was only on the self titled Rush album. He was co founder along with Alex in 1968. Geddy was the second bassist in the beginning, was almost tossed out by the manager according to Geddy. 😂😂😂
Yes, this was fire 🔥 🔥🔥 The bit at the end was Cygnus book 1 and there is also a Cygnus book 2. Both are amazing and are story that started on one album and started on another. Also YYZ live in Rio Driven live in Rio Cheers 🇨🇦
Holy SH!T indeed!! Three guys, in their late 50's, absolutely KILLING it, and all that after playing for 2 1/2 hours already! That's how you end a show. I highly suggest checking out the album version for comparison - well worth it. The 'reggae' opening was something they did starting in ~1980 as a different way of starting the track (a fun way of changing things up after playing it at every show since 1974!) The energy has never waned - they always give their fans 110%! Seen them 9 times, and it always ranks as some of the best shows I've ever witnessed. Rush is a worthy 'best band' to get into! You will NEVER be disappointed... Dude, I really think you're ready for their epic masterpiece: 2112! (do the official release from their website: ruclips.net/video/w5jwxrTqoEA/видео.html - it gives the complete story with liner notes!) Cheers!
I was in London seeing the War of the Worlds stage tour at the exact same time Rush came to my hometown for their Clockwork Angels tour. Although I loved the WotW show (it was genuinely incredible), I probably would've stayed here for Rush, particularly since this was their last live appearance. Opportunity costs are sometimes too much.
That’s crazy I didn’t know this was that old. I could have guessed it was from the newer stuff it was that good. They had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hand.
@@bdc1117 yep, and if you watch the animated video for "Spirit of Radio" from the official channel, you will see a nod to Donna, who was that disc jockey that discovered them.
5:56 I was lucky to get a front row ticket directly in front of Geddy's mic at the Mohegan Sun stop on this tour. I want to say it was summer 2010? I also saw their R30 and R40 tours, with less desirable seats. This tour was somewhere between those two. Meaning they'd been around for 30+ but not quite 40 years at this point.
You NEED to watch Neil Peart's drum solo called Der Trommler, specifically the Frankfyrt Germany one..... as a Drummer, It will be a trip. Their concerts were a soul changing experience, I was lucky enough to see Snakes and Arrows tour and the Time Machine tour, No one ever sat at their concerts, the whole venue would be standing room only since even though there were seats, everyone stood the whole time.
Love your reaction... we got you hooked! You have no idea how deep this rabbit hole is! Next you could try The garden from the Clockwork Angels tour... this is the last song of their last studio album... simply beautiful performance. Another one that you will have to try is 2112... a 20 minutes song.. a masterpiece! if you try it I suggest the comic book / animation version... it will help you to follow the story .. have fun! Oh! and The spirit of radio it's a banger the comic/animated version is very great too! sooo much great songs... 40 years of greatness!
Neil's kit is basically two different kits. The acoustic side is based around DW drums and Sabian symbals with some Rolland V-Drums and pedal and pad triggers sprinkled in. The E-Drum side is based around Rolland V-Drums with a few acoustic toms sprinkled in. The entire kit is built on a riser that can rotate 180 degrees so he can face the E-drum kit or the acoustic kit forward depending on which song they are playing. He uses a round throne so he literally just stands up and turns around as the riser rotates. What is unique about Neil's E-Drum setup is that they get extra shells from DW and mount the Rolland V-Drums inside them so they look more like an acoustic drum set. They have been doing this for years and now Rolland and pretty much all of the E-Drum manufacturers produce acoustic-looking kits but it started with Neil and his drum tech mating Rolland V-Drums to DW shells.
The final little riff at the end came from Cygnus X-1, The Voyage, the final track on their Farewell to Kings album. You need to listen to it, and follow that up with Cygnus X-1, Hemispheres, which is the first track on the Hemispheres album. Not that they had to worry about people wanting to buy Hemispheres, but "The Voyage" was a clever cliffhanger, which makes listening to Hemispheres a must.
The very end was from Cygnus book 1 which is from a much older album called Farewell to Kings. To think how hard they played here after all these years. This was the last song of a 3 hour show. Imagine that….pop bands can’t play for 30 minutes these days. Lol.
I have had the pleasure of following from year 1....simply the best My take on the dryers....some bands use props like flash and bangs to make up for their lack of talent.....Rush says look at us.....look at our talent
Not bad for a guy with arthritus in his hands (Alex) at the end of a 3 hour set. problem is when you have seen Rush live then watch other bands with multiple musicians you always feel short changed but never at a Rush show they give 110% for over 40 years

😆 We're all older now! 😂And they made the audience feel like a bunch of 14 yr olds at every show for 4 Decades! 🥰🐰

First time in the USA. Rush was played on the radio in Toronto before that. =)
