I think what helped Magnus turn the corner and get the win was the botez question. Helping him remember how the knight moves was the key here.
lmaoo
botez is the real winner here
Actually a bit of laughter and carefreeness is really helpful in these super tense championships.
haha well done
This comment is underrated!
can’t imagine how exhausted they must be
True. Almost 8 hours of chess must be physically and mentally draining
@@melsy9355 can anyone say why they are playing for so much time?
@@sriprakash7245 because they get bonus time
@@sriprakash7245 I don't know much about the rules so someone else can help but I know they get bonus time after move 40 I think and then get an extra 30 seconds after every move afterwards
8 hours... thats incredible. Its insane actually, sometimes I get drained with just the 3 hour classical games...8 hours is unimaginable. Props to them both
Its like studying for 8 hours
oh wow many people work for 10h+ a day unbulivubul
@@JacobsKrąnųgi would argue that 8 hours of extreme mental work where you can't lose focus is harder than 10 hours of normal hard work
@FlagerMiszcz compare 8hrs at a desk with several coffee breaks and not much activity to an 8hr ultramarathon run - 8hrs of chess lies somewhere between the two, though much closer to the latter
I get drained after just 10-15 mins of rapid
I'm proud of Magnus. This is his first win in the World Championship since 2016 against Sergey Karjakin in Game 10.
He won in 2018
@@NicoWilliamssssssye i think he meant in a classic game
@@leon930 yeah, he won in 2018 against Fabiano, the world championship
I thought the last WCC is 2018 againts Caruana?
@@NicoWilliamssssssye man, read carefully, i said classic game. magnus won against caruana in the rapid after all the classic ended as draws
Appreciate Ian for holding till 136th move..Magnus masterclass💖
He wasn't exactly holding till 136th move, he was lost a few moves before that. But great effort.
At some positions Ian had winning chances. The evaluation bar was swinging from one side to the other, and back…
@@samuelbruyneel both their brains were fried that point

One of the greatest games I've seen
There's a man who knows how a knight moves.
Ng7 was the best move of 2021
:D
L
Chess24 was magnificent in its coverage today.
Crazy how Jovanka predicted Nepos tilt in future WC games 😲
he´s known for tilting in 2nd half
I think the most exciting part is that Ian will now try to win more aggressively, and that kind of game is what suits both of them.
Yup, matches are always better when they aren't tied. A big question is whether Magnus will continue sacking pawns in the opening to try to grab the initiative
@@diggitus
Probably not, magnus will probably going to try to play passively and a more balanced game, that’s also what happened at round 7
Well sadly this comment didn’t age well so far
@@arabbit5625 I do think Ian is trying to be more aggressive, it's just that it's not working :p
Best endgame player of all time
Iam agree
Not just endgame He is the goat
That's a fact his endgame play is simply 2nd to none just amazing 👏
Best player* of all time
Best player PERIOD.
Deep respect for Ian. Both played extremely well. Amazing.
Botez: "How the knight moves?"
Magnus in Game 6:
I have watched the best part of every match so far and watched the whole of game 6 and loved it! I didn't even know I liked chess!
This game was too short for me, couldn't get enough of it, I wish it lasted for a few hours more
Man. Time is short. Both have only few minutes left
Not sure you're trying to be funny but it was almost 8 hours long
ndasmu
@@melsy9355 r/whooosh
Magnus and Ian!
What a Game🙏❤️
Hold your head up high Nepo!! You were part of one of the greatest games in WCC history!!!
one of the greatest game ? with so many inaccuracies from each side?
@@MatRecords great games need inaccuracies.. magnus and Ian played the most accurate game 2 games ago and it was a draw..
@@MatRecords There were innacuracies because the position was very complex. Nobody could play this game without innacuracies.
@@MatRecords Magnus and Nepo also played the most accurate WC-game, which ended in a draw. Nobody will remember that one. The greatest games aren't perfect, there is more about it.
@@MatRecords Most of the greatest games in the history of chess will be full of inaccuracies if you analyse with modern engines. But who gives a shit.
1:07 looks like ian heard the question too
Ian had the character to get where he is. No accident. Look for an exciting game 7 with chances for both sides.
@@agnezserena6293 Yeah.
Maybe that’s why Magnus is so hungry and motivated, he wants to even the score out and make it 4-4. Now that Ian is sadly breaking down psychologically it may very well happen. I hope Ian gets a win or two though. I am really sad for him and can’t imagine the emotional turmoil he must be going through right now.
@Christopher Bradley This comment did not age well. But maybe he'll get a rematch...
Magnus needs to thank Andrea for reminding him how the knight moved, that was clutch
not funny
I knew Carlsen's endgame prowess will lead to victory. I have enough confidence in Ian to not say before the entire WC started. Ian might make an epic comeback but I think Magnus has it overall.
When you can back yourself to outmanoeuvre a 2,782 to win a theoretically drawn position you know you’re on a different level.
Indisputable best end game player of all time and probably to ever live.
Bs. You haven’t seen my endgame play. Give me a Queen, two rooks and eight pawns, and I’ll be queening one of those babies easily against a lone king.
Maneuver*
@@wisco9er536 No
@@wisco9er536 Ah yes. American English is apparently the standard. How about no?
@@delirious.5722 wow I didn't know you could spell it like that that's pretty neat
Truly Master of Endgame
Ian is no slouch though, still games left. Let’s see if Nepo can do it.
Finally Magnus win the first winning game in this match
Actually he was lost in second game
@@petar1094 in this game also, around 20 - 40 move Nepo could make some winning chances
@@petar1094 Clearly not considering Nepo couldn’t beat him lol
@@przemor1150 Yeah but he was slightly better, and in second game he had g6 and after that he was much better but he play c3... Than he allowed Magnus everything after Qc2 game was draw...
@@patstaysuckafreeboss8006 Yeah man hahahahahaha 😂, actually he is so afraid of winning Magnus 😂
"Magnoose, what is best in life?"
Magnoose: "Crush your enemies. See them driven before you! And hear the lamentation of the Nepo!"
There is something called endgames,
1. Beginner Endgame
2. Intermediate Endgame
3. Advanced level Endgame
4. GM level endgame
5. Super GM endgame
Then, at last comes:
6. Magnus endgame.
He has shown the world multiple times, why he is the GOAT..
Magnus is a treasure of chess !!. Fantastic victory :)
Im completely exhausted just watching ..I can't even imagine how tired they must be....
They're literally blinking back exhaustion. Respect to both.
Thanks for showing this part of the battle. Appreciate it.
The commentator suggesting the pawn push would result in a draw… lmao
Instead Magnus moved the knight which the same commentator then says is “sophisticated”
Game 6 of every World Championship is apparently crazy, reminds me of Fischer Vs Spassky Game 6
Nepo did chess a favor unlike Magnus who wants to take no risk and just play for draws. Nepo took the risk - made the position unbalanced and forced himself to find the winning lines. I can definitely commend that.
that does you no good if you lose. especially at the wcc lmao
Magnus literally played unknown opening in game 6 and sac pawns in early games
people are not giving the respect he deserves
It takes 7 hours to win against Ian in the main stage. If that doesn't excite you for the following days, I dunno what will.
Best player ever and I enjoyed every second of that match.
Nepo's crazy expressions like when Kasparov blundered and shook his face like a hound dog lmao 🤣
Well, Nepo's not gonna go down easily! 8 long hours! That must be pretty much draining for both players! Awesome game, and a world record one!
It's funny how they kept complaining about the draw game and once magnus got win everyone suddenly change side and start complementing him lol
Epic game. Now the battle really begins.
Yep, now Ian will have to press. Hopefully we get to see more desicive games.
@@sumting_wong_witya1029 I don’t know about pressing against Magnus in classical. He is too accurate if he has time to calculate.
David is such a friend and admirer of Magnus you could feel his excitement through the screen
Too soon to spoil in the title, so glad I'd already seen it when this came up
At some positions Ian had winning chances. The evaluation bar was swinging from one side to the other, and back…
It's because magnus is sacrificing pieces to be in better position. Computer can detect that.
I was really looking forward to watching this when I got home from work. I still will but thanks for spoiling it in the title, jerk
I am here after Dibg clinched the wcc and defeated non other than Jan
Ian
That was intense. REALLY intense. Well, not really intense. But pretty intense.
Good old days when magnus was still the world champion❤❤
One of the great games in the history of chess for sure.
I'm still for Nepo. Go! You are the best challenger of the last years
:(
The play was absolutely insane!!!
Nepo had it in the middle of game but made few mistakes.
@@DoorordonotThereisnotryRex Nepo is not a brave player. He isn't agressive. If he decide to risk it all, he will have it. Plus, Magnus has bigger stamina, he waited him and waited and got it. Magnus opening was risky, unusual. Nepo answered very well at opening and had him. He overpowered game but for a short time. I was disappointed how everything overturned that easy and stupidly. Magnus put him on wrong path and he won. I am not a fan of Marcus neither of Nepo, but top chess deserve more excitement.
I like that they had a GM sitting in as commentator (Simon Williams) and they're interrupting him
No one cares about gingers
I need a beer.
And now the match will explode, awesome.
Nepo have to proceed to Plan B, attack.
Magnus went Ultra Instinct.
After Magnus sacrificed his Rook for Nepo's bishop, he decided to become a computer
People of today, you've just witnessed history. This match will be talked about by learners and enthusiasts of chess way after we are gone. The same way we learn about Fischer and Byrne, from the 50's when most of us weren't here yet. Imagine that!
i dont think so ,,, its longest game and ian missed some moves that gave him a huge advantage and finally blundered with Qe6 ,, yes its a great game but not a memorable historical one ,, just give a couple of months we will forget it just like the other great games ,,
@@harshkumarf4379 lol
@@harshkumarf4379 time will tell, my friend. You might be right, but if this is the only victory on classics, it might get its importance.
I'm here to prove you wrong. This was memorable
I would make an analogy to Android 17 vs Piccolo lol… equal power, but one is mechanical and has endless stamina and the other eventually wears down. Alternatively Exodia vs Zork.
great comments as well - an 8-hour entertainment I won't forget :)
Will never forget the feeling seeing tablebase go from draw to mate in 60 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
This game's a contender for Carlsen's immortal game.
I think this was the game which ended up the motivation for him to defend his title one more time. Probably the first one where he thought of this idea.
He’s been champion for the last 10 years, undisputed.
I mean look at his face in this video. It looks like he almost got dried up playing it for so long. Plus, He needs a good opponent now. Maybe he’ll challenge the next champion.
That's why he is called the endgame genius
what i learned from Magnus's victory: *Nepo is a Beast*
Exhaustion is a major factor. As more days pass, it'll be of the utmost importance because both are equally well prepared and sharp. It's just who can keep it for longer. Like boxing.
Don't spoil it, many people didn't watch it live!!!
Il est toujours champion du Monde,il est à part,Magnuuuussssss
I remember that one tv commercial of Marlboro or lucky strike cigerette idk. In this ad, the guy who was about to lose a chess match suddenly take out a cigerette and smoke.. then he did a check move and beat the opponent.
Now I'm a heavy smoker. but still dont know how to play chess well.
🤣
Magnus is my boy.
The monster
Nepo handles the situation like a world champion and let’s see if he can clinch a win of his own as the games largely seem in the balance. Magnus is the Mohammed Ali of chess, always finding a way to extract a win from a technical draw.
1:09 has to be the most on-point question ever. It was all downhill for Ian from here on
"Is this loss going to make Nepo crumble?" Well, it did
You guys both have 1 hour on the clock, use it well
Game: *lasts almost 8 hours*
That might be sufficiently frustrating to convince him that persistence is futile.
U can see the pain in their eyes they just wanna sleep
Alternate title : it took 7 hours for magnus to beat ian in a classical game.
There's time when Magnus have 3 minute left. Super clutch
Bbb.but.. why? The title is a massive spoiler and RUclips just thought I had to see it..
Baoth of them determined to win no matter what and finally we have a winner.
Absolutely sane. Absolutely in his right mind. Absolutely logical. Absolutely sound, convincing, and strong. Some lessons to learn for us mortals. It is not for the crazy world of lay people to judge the genius.
she was right. this is where ian started to crumble.
Woah. Now this makes things more exciting. Ian will play white pieces and maybe make a surprise opening this time.
I think this was the game which ended up the motivation for him to defend his title one more time.
He’s been champion for the last 10 years, undisputed.
I mean look at his face in this video. It looks like he almost got dried up playing it for so long. Plus, He needs a good opponent now. Maybe he’ll challenge the next champion.
"No stalemates." I would hope the world champion doesn't stalemate in that position lmao.
1:07
Nice foreshadowing.
Andrea to magnus on game 5
" How does the knight move"?
Magnus: finishes off ian with a knight move on game 6
Could sb explain me, how the tournament plays? Are they playing till the first win or they have to get certain amount of points or what?
14 classical matches. Draws give 0.5 point to both player. Victory give 1 point to the winner. After the all matches who has the higher score wins
Both are awesome, played for 8 hours
Take your pick, Magnus, Tyson, Jordan, Game 6
MC legendary performance!
I do not understand the rules, why did they stop match midway?
@Johann Sebastian Bach it is still not checkmate right?, why did they stop match
The greatest ever❤️Also Nepo is a toughie❤️
everybody will lose energy in long game
FIDE should determine such this game and add other solution
I was there!
I Lost with the thumbnail LOL
Spoiler in the title, soooo uncool
I’m glad I just went to sleep 😂
ian had the winning chances (maybe not exactly winning but great advantage) and he missed then he blundered right at the end with Qe6 instead he ahd to go Qc2 or Qb1 ,, although that is tough and with exhausted mind that can occur ,,
Keep spoilers out of your titles.
