Hi Nick, just wanted to say thank you to properly introducing+encouraging me to start this series. I bought the Mafia collection around launch but have only just started M1:DE now and it's a blast! Atmosphere, orchestra and sense of authenticity sets a new bar. Came across the channel thanks to the amazing Splinter Cell uploads and it's one of my favs! Love watching all your uploads! The situation with Mafia 2 Remaster sucks, I unfortunately experienced a similar level of quality with the Shenmue 1&2 re-releases (ported by the same developer as M2:Re). At this point would you recommend playing the 360 backwards compatible version > the remaster? Thx Will definitely be checking out more of the types of games you like+recommend! Thx again!
Love mafia 2 one of the best 360 games I play still. Its a shame the open world elements weren't fully fleshed out but its good just for the story alone
Oh wow so...I just bought this as a " trilogy " on steam and played the first one......It was big and beautiful and it got me wrapped up in the story once again as I played these games when they originally released...I just loaded mafia 2 and I was like wtf is this...it looks terrible in comparison...
I come at this from a unique perspective. I loved the Mafia 1 remake, it was an amazing remaster and it was one of the games I got to enjoy during lockdown! I enjoyed playing the original Mafia back when it was new, but I got stuck in the "drive in the country" level so I put it aside and continued with my life. Thanks to the availability of youtube, I bought Mafia Definitive Edition and found where I was stuck and was able to continue and beat the game almost 20 years later! I loved the improvements the remaster made. Yes, a little crosshair infront of the muzzle would've been better.
Baldurs Gate 2 and Mafia Definitive Edition and Mafia II are my favourite games ever. I love this vintage feeling and the nostalgia when I play Mafia 1-2.
I remember when Mafia II still held the world record for most F-Bombs in a video game script. I learned this only after I put it out on display at work. Oops.
Huh, I never counted this. I would naturally expect that The Witcher in 2008 came out as a record breaker and that Mafia II for PC few years later wasn't even close to having more F-Bombs. Perhaps The Witcher just stole all of the shock value and than all of it simply passed by me in Mafia II.

8:45 I mean you have NVIDIA Physx activated on Mafia 2 it makes sense that the physics and simulations were better there than in Mafia remake so it's kinda a odd comparison.
Both games are good. I can say that those games are a must play. And I've liked a Mafia game with level of destruction at least the same as Mafia 2 but with the graphic design of Mafia DE.
Mafia II tech is still really cool. I want Mafia II remake though. But my unpopular opinion is that they should redo the story, personally I'm not a fan of Mafia II's story and writing.
I agree with you there. As much as I love the gameplay and responsiveness, the characters were irritating and the plot (Except for that one twist) neither intriguing nor as well-written as DE or OG.
@@renmorpheus Nice, someone agrees! Honestly I find it hard to believe Mafia II was written by Vavra, he only left 1 year before release, and all of the cut stuff was just side mission stuff, not themes/character writing. I excused Mafia 1's issues by saying he was only 23 when he wrote the script, but now I'm having my doubts about him. It's just generic gangster stuff. Vito as a character sucks compared to Joe. His mom and sister aren't all that compelling, neither are the other gangsters, compared to Paulie and Salieri from the remake.
@@henrywinters9496 I mean to be fair, dialogue in OG Mafia was quite bad too, but Vavra nailed the overall plot and the choice of time period helped make it interesting despite the genre trappings. And yeah, there was a human quality to the characters which pretty much only Joe and Henry did in 2 (Kind of sad, really, because the voice work was generally very strong). Pacing also was quite over the place, the plot too loosely connected. DE was definitely a step-up in all these aspects compared to both, so I can only hope Hangar's writers now can do that too with a new game (As Mafia III's plot was rather thin and devoid of interesting plot points) ^^

Although the Mafia remake is an amazing experience I wish they would drop that engine they use. It has some fundamental problems that can destroy the game in a matter of seconds (1) You can kill shadows in dark areas or at high speed. Mostly found in Mafia 3 but seen throughout Mafia 1 is the abundance of dead shadows in which the engine can't calculate the surroundings so ( speeding up to the dam in mafia 1) will result in the ground being jet-black and your charcter turning into a Simpsons charcter with a yellow hue to their skin (2) Vampire mirrors Ever since they started using the new engine with Mafia 3 the reflections in mirrors have disappeared or glitched out entirely this is made even more jarring when you take into account the beautiful screen spaced reflections used elsewhere in the world and the fact these reflections worked in their previous engine (3) WTF its broken The entire engine can break completely at points and even if you delete the game and reinstall it there's still a plethora of problems that perpetuate the experience.
Final Fantasy 15 vs Final Fantasy 7 Remake sounds like a good ideea to do when the game will appear on pc in a few months, what do you think nick? Ah and btw I like your videos
Mafia 2 was the more memorable game imo. I like this series a lot but 2k has just become too cookie cutter as they have progressed. I think mafia 2 looks better too. It's obviously not the same resolution but there is more detail and immersion in the environments imo. Mafia 2 still had a soul at the time. It was running on fumes especially the dlc and not including it in the main game, but I feel like mafia 1 definitive edition was just a meticulous remake and nothing more and falls in line with most modern games that way. It feels soulless. People say it has better gameplay. People are so perfection oriented it removes other factors. I remember having a lot more fun playing mafia 2. It's no coincidence either the snow and cars look better in mafia 2. It just has that extra whatever. No it's not 4k with perfect lighting but who cares. Mafia 1's world feels so cookie cutter in comparison. There are so many little details in mafia 2's world as you move along the story too like different people you can speak to and all sorts of stuff going on. Graphically it's also superior in ways. The character models and everything aren't more advanced. They are just higher resolution. Mafia 2 felt like a living breathing world in ways. Whatever engine they are using is not nearly as advanced or good. As games have progressed these engines they use are not as advanced due to time budgeting decisions.
In fact they are comparing the definitive edition of the two games. This just shows how less attention was given to mafia 2. It is understandble as Mafia defintive edition was a more difficult project.
Mafia 2 had better police system: You have to change clothing ( buy new at store) change car plates in vehicle upgrade shop. Because police remember both. Also you can resist arrest or ticket These dont exists in Mafia definitive. You can simply hide in corner street & police stop chasing You with 4☆ in 5 minutes
I know Nvidia 3D Vision driver support was ended by Nvidia but no mention that Mafia 2 was very good in 3D Visionso has the Mafia II: Definitive Edition lost 3D support now?
The biggest key difference between Mafia DE, and Mafia 2 DE, is that Mafia 1 DE was a completely new game built from the ground up....just...BASED on the original Mafia. Where was Mafia 2 DE is just an upgraded port of the original Mafia 2. So naturally, the one being remade from the ground up is gonna look nice graphically. Mafia 2 DE just re-used everything from the original, so everything still feels a bit dated. Mafia DE had the advantage of being remade completely, as a proper modern day 2022 game.
In my opinion,no,i can describe the game like this:mafia 3 with a mafia dlc with better graphics, the story is fantastic but the animations, sound effects even movements are all from mafia 3.
Mafia Definitive is a great way to get introduced to the series. They're all pretty self-contained though so it's not like you NEED to play any of them in order. I'd save Mafia 3 for last - only because it's definitely the weakest entry

Beautiful Chanel and good source of having motion blur off she we can see the true image keep up with the direct comparisons can’t wait for the GtA trilogy playing this game for the first time it’s fun going back in forth between these games and Gta4 in open world standards
The physics were so much better in Mafia 2
I really wanna see Mafia Remake vs Mafia 3 Definitive Edition
Maf 3 needs a bit more than a face lift but i still love the game
Thx
Will definitely be checking out more of the types of games you like+recommend! Thx again!
Love mafia 2 one of the best 360 games I play still. Its a shame the open world elements weren't fully fleshed out but its good just for the story alone
Thanks Nick amazing content like always .
I always loved the Mafia series . Cant wait for the documentry
I just bought Mafia 3 today and this gets recommended, scary.
Should have bought the trilogy
@@justins8304 😂😂😂
How has this guy only got 340k sunscribers! Wtf get this man a million!
I seriously loved Mafia DE. It wasn’t perfect but it was fun and interesting. It’s definitely worth another playthrough in my opinion
mafia2 de was a retexturing/remastering, while mafia1 de was a remake. The former had to limit certain things for the old engine to handle.
@@marciusnhasty "Mafia 2 broke the Guiness World Record for the most number of times a video game uses the "f-word". The "f-word" is used over 200 times by many characters in the game. The RUclips channel "Rooster Teeth" posted a video displaying proof that the game really did break the record.

yeah i agree
Neither is Mafia 2, and it still did everything better.
if that’s the case then all of them aren’t open world
@@DurangoCzechoslovakia Mafia 2 had diners, restaurants, gun stores, clothing stores, car mechanics etc. and had an open world environment
@@Stormertheboy that’s my point
Both editions are great but I think mafia 2 (not even the def edition) has some of the Best winter maps I have ever seen because every time the maps don't give a good feeling but when I played mafia 2 it felt like the map was very real to 90s and felt very excited because we could rob stores and interact a lot and repair random peoples car it felt like interaction was a lot in mafia 2. pretty all it depends on what game are you trying to seek. if you're trying to seek an interactive and a good story game I would recommend mafia 2 and if you're trying to find a game with a lot of action and updated graphics then mafia 1 (def) or mafia III
❤️❤️ love your work
I can’t wait to see the GTA Documentary video
it's funny the apex physx is high but doesn't even affect vito's clothes. while in original mafia 2 with physx off u still can see the clothes physics
The Nvidia effects were downgraded in the MAFIA 2 "DEFINITIVE" .The original Mafia II has better physx than most 2021 games. If you guys don't believe me,go replay the game max out.
@@agentsmith6161 people struggled to have maxed settings in original game, but the physx was too heavy, i only got 12-15 fps by just turning on low physx settings

Thank you for doing a mafia documentary! That's awesome!
Dear, subscribe and learn a lot really💞👉
I just love that intro sound
I waited for this. Knew about it through the community polls, they were a great idea :)
I just finished #1 and was amazed with the graphics and such a great story! then I started #2 and was so disappointed in the down grade in graphics especially the characters, you'd think it should be better than the first but nope! And the story doesn't get you invested in the characters like the first.
It sucks that the cloth physics are broken in Mafia 2 DE.
Also, no photo mode in Mafia DE
Something funny I noticed in the Mafia 1 remake was that during the bank heist mission the moneybags you take has a picture of Louisiana on it. It seems Hanger 13 used the Mafia 3 model for Mafia 1

It’s a reskin of M3, of course a lot of the bugs would be ironed out

Original Mafia 2 is still best looking Mafia game.
This game has a Awesome vibe.

Nick930 'n' Chill my guy!
No it can’t be…
Mafia II:
-best open world graphics
-has more interactivity
-best map with other armed gangsters roaming around the city you can mess with
- has no annoying racing mission...
Mafia DE:
-best story
-best facial textures
-best shooting mechanic
-has melee weapons
-free roam with no need to buy dlc
free roam with no need to buy dlc? What game in the series requires you to buy DLC to freeroam?
@@Nick930 I think he means the Mafia II DLCs and those side missions :)
They were cut from the main game.
Damn, Nick always delivers
8:45 I mean you have NVIDIA Physx activated on Mafia 2 it makes sense that the physics and simulations were better there than in Mafia remake so it's kinda a odd comparison.
Both games are good. I can say that those games are a must play. And I've liked a Mafia game with level of destruction at least the same as Mafia 2 but with the graphic design of Mafia DE.
I Think You Should Make A poll For Us To Vote At The End Of The Video For The Best Sound Design
Great idea
Mafia definitive edition looks so goood
Mafia II tech is still really cool. I want Mafia II remake though. But my unpopular opinion is that they should redo the story, personally I'm not a fan of Mafia II's story and writing.
I agree with you there. As much as I love the gameplay and responsiveness, the characters were irritating and the plot (Except for that one twist) neither intriguing nor as well-written as DE or OG.
+ Personally, i think the gameplay is very boring.
@@renmorpheus Haden blackmen (hangar 13's writer) won several awards for best story telling... He is also the boss of the company, i thing that's a good thing
Wait, that's not how Mafia 2 sounded when I played
Wait, is your other channel, Benchmarkking?
Who disliked? What more do you want from this guy? What didn’t he cover, what didn’t he say? What do you expect? You dislike mafia ok but this guy only reviews them.
I disagree with the explosions. In mafia 2 the fireball looks bad and 2d in comparison to mafia de's. Pause at 8:27
After playing the remastered mafia, I was hoping the definitive of mafia II had the same graphics when I bought 😞 still a great game however
I really wish this trilogy got a PS5 upgrade. Been putting off playing them until I can play at 60.
Its why I held off buying the mafia 1 remake tbh
Maybe series x can do this fps boost thing.. that would be so good
@@sean7332 I’m super jealous of the FPS boost mode. Wish Sony would show a little more love to older titles.
@@samuelkeene1589 it's unclear currently just how many games will be getting this but the fact they don't need to have the developers themselves do the work is pretty crazy , I hope more ps5 devs give fps upgrades for you
Ya might have to get a series X for that one, or a powerful PC
They just gave up trying to make M2 DE on par with the quality of the first. In fact, it got progressively lasier after the first with 3 just having a different lighting system - which I'll admit it needed - but it clearly just felt like the care wasn't consistent across all games.
Great video .. thank you!
Mafia ll. is my favourite
Although the Mafia remake is an amazing experience I wish they would drop that engine they use. It has some fundamental problems that can destroy the game in a matter of seconds
(1) You can kill shadows in dark areas or at high speed.
Mostly found in Mafia 3 but seen throughout Mafia 1 is the abundance of dead shadows in which the engine can't calculate the surroundings so ( speeding up to the dam in mafia 1) will result in the ground being jet-black and your charcter turning into a Simpsons charcter with a yellow hue to their skin
(2) Vampire mirrors
Ever since they started using the new engine with Mafia 3 the reflections in mirrors have disappeared or glitched out entirely this is made even more jarring when you take into account the beautiful screen spaced reflections used elsewhere in the world and the fact these reflections worked in their previous engine
(3) WTF its broken
The entire engine can break completely at points and even if you delete the game and reinstall it there's still a plethora of problems that perpetuate the experience.
Just finished #1 I started #2 and I was like “ew”
Do you plan on doing the XIII (13) Remake comparison Nick?
That's how Mafia: Definitive Edition works!
Why didn't they use the Team from Mafia II for Mafia III, sometimes i get the feeling they didn't even play the second part :(
Can't imagine how good GTA 6 will look and feel to play! 🤯😍

7:09 This place looks like the opening area in Man of Medan
Mafia 2 had better police system:
You have to change clothing ( buy new at store) change car plates in vehicle upgrade shop.
Because police remember both. Also you can resist arrest or ticket
These dont exists in Mafia definitive. You can simply hide in corner street & police stop chasing You with 4☆ in 5 minutes
In the mafia definitive edition sounds, it sounds a little more weaker than mafia II, but it has amazing reload animations
I know Nvidia 3D Vision driver support was ended by Nvidia but no mention that Mafia 2 was very good in 3D Visionso has the Mafia II: Definitive Edition lost 3D support now?
They went from looking like dolls to sculptures of clay
Clay usualy looks like skin, idk if that was a compliment or not
How did you get the gander looks so good I put all the settings on high and it still doesn’t look that good for mafia 1
I'm so pissed the removed the clothes physics in Mafia2
Man I wish they completely remade mafia 2 is 2021 man how hard would it have been 🤦
It is hard lol
which game would you prefer for free roam? not just the beauty of the city but also things to do.
Mafia DE had the advantage of being remade completely, as a proper modern day 2022 game.
the mafia series is one that I've wanted to get into for a while now. would mafia definitive edition be worth picking up?
In my opinion,no,i can describe the game like this:mafia 3 with a mafia dlc with better graphics, the story is fantastic but the animations, sound effects even movements are all from mafia 3.
Mafia Definitive is a great way to get introduced to the series. They're all pretty self-contained though so it's not like you NEED to play any of them in order.
I'd save Mafia 3 for last - only because it's definitely the weakest entry
@@rosanaandrade922 man, at least stop spreading bs, hm?
It literally feels nothing like mafia 3. Everyone who played the game knows that, but of course you din't
