It's a great all-rounder. I call it my Do It All Dolan!! I thought it was good to support a UK based company local to me, and the 'R' lot weren't an option for me.
The disc pads are the Best System product imo i have see thus far , THE RECYCLING but built in incentive by a discount , THANK you , This Video was Great
Another great video. After hearing your comments about Gorilla NRS pads I have just ordered on set to try out to see how I get along with them. Gorilla were very helpfull as I just sent them the spec of my current branks (Tektro) and they came back with their matching equivalent. PS. I mentioned your name to them when ordering.
The axle product seems a good idea. I bought a planetx frame which didn’t have a rear axle. I spotted that Ribble bikes sold the axle but they wouldn’t sell me one as I didn’t have one of their bikes. Managed to get one from planetx in the end. So for that reason I could see it being helpful. It’s also the reason I will never own a ribble bike and they missed out on my last two bike purchases.
Thanks! I'm trying to keep a fair balance between workshop how-to videos, and product reviews. I don't want it to be one of those channels that just pushes stuff at the viewer to buy 👍
Fun video. I've been thinking about making a removable counter in my bike shop for videos as well. I'd love to do more videos in the bike shop instead of the studio.
The RapiLock system is similar to what Pinarello uses on their bikes. I have never understood why you would want to run anything different from a system like this. If my stock Pinarello axels ever need replacing, these will absolutely be what I go with.
Rock Bros bag looks like Zippy !!! Gorilla pad are just awesome and my go to company. I use the ceramic ones and they bite like badger on steroids and bite harder as they get hotter.
Nice video Jon, got a email about that groupset, said happy to review but don’t have a bike for it to go on yet, but would be happy to look at it. Just waiting to hear back 😊
@@ribblevalleycyclist yes mate I know what you mean, I’m half thinking of giving up, frustrating when you take 5 hours to edit video plus the extra time on ride stop starting, taking enjoyment out of it. For nobody to watch. Bleeding that break at weekend if it doesn’t fix it can I pay you to have a look for me maybe talk me through it?
The RockBros handlebar lock actually looks fantastically useful. Clearly designed for a coffee stop where the main thing is to stop someone being able to just walk off with the bike. BUT: does it rattle in the bar? Especially on gravel/rough roads?
Doing the Ribble Valley Ride Expert route, I've done over 100 miles before but never 1900m of climbing. It was boiling last year when I did the 50 and the climb out of Malham was an absolute killer. Trying this year to fuel a bit better (mainly carb loading, sugar water rather than pure caffeine last year). I just wish the gpx files were out so I could plan a bit better.
Hi Chris, They don't like to upload the GPX file, just in case they need to change the route last minute. Just had a look at their very basic route. Pretty sure I can work out the basics of it..... here you go: Will be pretty flat from Clitheroe to Gargrave (Where you cross the A65). Then up over Malham Tarn (BIG!!). Over to Stainforth, and then down into Settle. Out to Rathmell, then Wigglesworth, then Tosside. Then Tossed to Slaidburn. Dunlop Bridge. All of that Wigglesworth to Dunsop bit is lumpy! Then Dunlop Bridge to Chipping. And then back to Clitheroe. All of those villages should help you plan a pretty good representation of the route. Hope that helps. Jon
Hey John, what generic gear ratio would you recommend-? (Sproket count--front and rear Single speed- mild hilly pavement --700x45 tires--- ? Thanks pal! Steve/Texas .
Regard the Gorrila brake pads, Usable brake pad material appears less, due to lip of the holder compared to a brake pad on a flat surface. Can you address?
That is a fantastic point Ram, and was a real pain in the ar$e to answer, as I needed to take them back off the bike 😂😂😂😂 According to Shimano, a Shimano pad has a 2mm deep braking shoe (See Shimano link below). A Gorilla NRS ONE pads shoe stands proud of that metal edge by 1.99mm HOWEVER!!!!!! The Shimano pad requires a pad spring, which takes 0.48mm away from the Shimano’s overall usable shoe depth, taking its usable thickness down to 1.52mm So to conclude, in real world use, the Gorilla pad is 0.49mm ……. Or 25% thicker. bike.shimano.com/en-EU/service-upgradeparts/service-tips.html
Let us know how you get on with it. It has an amount of rigidity to it, so I suspect it’s keeping itself pressed up against the inner of the bars, and not rattling about……. If you get what I mean😬
How would you torque and lever style thru-axle? You don't need to, just use common sense. But if you feel you need to, the RapiLock is 6-8Nm, it says it on the side.
This thru axle thing feels like too much faff. And it's not really all that light. Just measure your old axle and order exactly the same but without any locking attachement. Even when riding without multitool surely place for a single small allen key can be found.
Ive never been disappointed by Rockbros!
Looking like they do some okay stuff 👍
@ribblevalleycyclist the Bar mitts for cold weather are fantastic.
Liked the new counter and the product review content. Missed the usual arm waving and pointing though, you will never please everyone 🤣
Cheers Frank, made me chuckle 🤣
As a fellow Dolan rider it’s nice to see one on the channel.

Like the new counter layout. Some really interesting product reviewed too. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Julian, will do!
Thanks for the demonstration of the interesting gadgets!
Thanks, Mischa. Will grab a coffee on the weekend ride 👍☕️

Thanks, glad you liked it. Off to tidy the workshop up, and fit mine to the bike 👍
Fabulous content!!!! Love the counter! Loved it without the counter!.... keep filming! Ribble valley is a long way from Texas!
Lucky you!
Yeah, but most of us would love an opportunity to go for a bike ride in Texas, Steve!!!!! Glad you're liking the content 👍

I’d never own one either……… But I can’t really say why, as it’d involve me opening a can of worms!!!!
I always enjoy your informative videos!
Glad you like them!
Yes, much better layout of the studio space. RockBros products are staples here in the US, always well made and reasonably priced.
Thanks for the feedback, Victor. To be honest, I'm impressed with the RockBros quality..... will feature more of their stuff I think
I got my throw axel 5 years ago from AliExpress, still works perfectly on my MTB, only cost 15£ each.
Wow, that was a fantastic deal!!!
Thanks for sharing this video🎉
My pleasure 😊
I have the rock bros cable lock and absolutely love it..
Very brilliant I bought two. One for my future bike as well 🤗😂
Great video. Just discovered your channel. Lovely stuff!
I have to admit, I like the style of your vids and your gestures 😎
Thanks, Thomas...... Loving all the positive comments 👍
I just love the axles I don’t need them but I’m getting some. I just love the engineering of them cheers👍
Exactly that☝️. They're a beautify crafted thing.
Great new setup
Thanks, Michael, I think it just works better, so will keep it

Go for it, it's easy to do. make it removable, though!
Keep doing it in your style John, good content.
Thanks Steppings, will do! 👍

If it does rattle you could probably get some of that internal cable housing foam sleeve to put on the cable.
@tomconway6808 Off down the pub on a gravel route. Will report back…… probably tomorrow though 🍺🤪
Good vid.
Thanks!

@chriseldridge6721 No problem. Enjoy your day 👍
Had the Rapi lock type axel that came on my Bianchi soooo much easier to use
It came on your Bianchi...... That was a good result!
@@ribblevalleycyclist I have since found 'Switch components also do similar ones for approx £35 but dont look as good quality as the Rapilock ones

Which out front Garmin mount do you use please ? Thanks, Tim
Hi Tim, It’s a K-Edge on that bike 👍
@@ribblevalleycyclist Thanks Jon, much appreciated, I am considering trying a stem bracket mount that uses a pair of the holes on the bar clamp. 👍
You weighed the handlebar lock without the end piece left in the bars?
Which would weigh probably about the same as the bar plug it replaced

@@ribblevalleycyclist Thank you for checking this out. That makes the Gorrila pads an even better product choice.
Does that lock rattle inside the handlebars? I bet it'd get annoying surely?
Ridden a few times since, even on trail, not heard a peep out of it. You think it would rattle, but it doesn't.
@@ribblevalleycyclist that's all that was stopping me from getting one. Guess I'm buying one right now

Thanks, Andrew, appreciate your thoughts on the subject 👍
The bolt cutters you showed would not be very good at cutting that cable, for stainless cables you specifically need steel wire cable cutter 😂
Noted 😂😂
Thanks for your sharing !!! #ROCKBROS #ROADTOSKY
