My younger cousin Nadia passed away last year in July due to suicide at only 18. Growing up, she had always been the biggest Elton John fan, and I had the blessing of being able to take her to her first concert ever back in 2019…just the two of us and Elton. I’ll never forget. On the day of her funeral they were playing a slideshow, and coincidentally when the photo of us from that concert came up, this song started playing. I lost it. Everytime I hear this song, I think of you Nadia. We miss you terribly. 💜🦋
I had a good friend that couldnt give me anything for my 40th birthday so he dedicated this song to me. Im 62 now and everytime i hear the song i think of him.

I just can't explain how this masterpiece makes me feels, I don't even have a partner, single as a Pringle, but I feel in love with the idea of loving someone this hard like this song. I first heard this when it was played on the radio in the latter part of 1970. The catchy lyrics and the melody captured my imagination; the lyrics are still relevant 53 years later and they certainly reflect how one feels about love and relationships. The song that launched Elton's career to become an international sensation and it's probably one of the best songs ever written by him and Bernie.

I can still remember the first time I heard this song, driving down the interstate headed for work one morning out in the middle of nowhere. Man that was forever ago but I can still see the moment in my mind just like it was yesterday, Bernie Taupin has a way of reaching into my mind and writing what I am feeling. I guess that is why he is such a great writer and having had Elton John writing the music and interpreting the song made them so popular and famous.
