My word for the year is Focus. I want to focus on ways to grow this year. As a 75 year old widow who lives alone, I want to focus on growing friends, keeping in touch with family and enjoy church deepening spiritual growth. Enjoy your videos.

I just got my new Agendio planner for Jan-June of 2024. I included a blank currently page at the beginning of each month and have been deep diving into videos for ideas. THIS is the one! I wanted something strong and inspirational and beautiful for my very first one, and you have provided me the idea! “Expand” will be my word for the year - my mind, my knowledge, my capabilities at work, my availability to my family, and the actual footprint of my home.
I typed “January currently pages” in the search bar, watched HOURS of videos, and of course ended up greeting you once again.
    Thank you for the inspiration!

Good video. My word is GRATEFUL. As DV survivor God has blessed me and kept me in a State (NJ) where I have no family or friends and going thru this situation... It was something but one year & 4 months later.... I am so grateful for all of the opportunities and support that have come my way since being in a safe place etc. Next, OMG... You sound sounds like me when i left my husband and moved in my apt. I was like these neighbors are quiet ... But one day... a young lady with THREE (3) kids all under the ages of 6 moved in ...Running .... Screaming... Crying... hahahhaha .... so I feel you on the CHANGE and having to film videos...thank God for EDIT... 😂 TFS Be Blessed

In 2023 , my 60th year on the planer, I'm finally going to 'BE'....be happy, be present, be real, . None is going to love on me better than me and I give myself permission to LIVE...

My word of the year is "Intentional". As a single mom I feel overwhelmed and lost a lot. So I want to be more Intentional with my time and what I feed my spirit, meaning I want to focus on things that will add value to my life and growth as a person, as a mother and a woman. I am starting out easy, less screen time and working out at least 10 minutes a day and keeping a SMALL list of chores and NO CHORES after 7 pm, which is now family time. Your videos have definitely inspired me to plan and track, which is so much fun!! Bring it 2023, I'm ready!!

My word of the year is ORGANIZE! I want to organize different areas of my life including my home, my life, and most of all my finances. Hello Mary Ellen, I like your videos, you are helping me in so many ways. My word for the year is HEAL or PEACE, because I am grieving my son’s death. I’m struggling with depression. I don’t feel like myself anymore. 😢 I am missing my son for the holidays. This is the first Christmas without him. Christmas was his favorite holiday. The hardest part is coming up, his birthday is in January, the 28th😢

I am sorry for your loss . It hurts forever but I suppose it gets manageable. My best advice is to feel it. But don’t let it rule you. Your son would not want you to be in such distress, our family who love us would not want that. I am so praying for you on your sons birthday. Please remember to celebrate him too. I had to do that with my dad he was a big laugh and I honored that at the same time I mourned him. I have a special stone that I hold in my hand whenever I miss him to the point of crying and I speak to him. Another special person I lost a year later and I am doing the same for them. No it’s not fixing the whole in my heart but it does help.

My word of the year is “Boundaries” My love language is acts of service. I love helping & doing things for people I care about. I have been feeling depleted & unappreciated. It. Is really making me struggle with depression more than usual. My goals for 2023 are to say no when I don’t want to do things, prioritize myself, and set healthy boundaries for myself regarding people in my life. Being a doormat is not good for my mental health. What you said about never wanting to leave the house and being an introvert really spoke to my soul. I’ve always considered myself a homebody but Covid isolation really exacerbated my desire to stay at home. I probably need to connect more also. Maybe that will be my word next year!❤

My word for the year is BREATHE. I recently got a lung cancer diagnosis 2 days before Christmas, merry Christmas to me right? Even more ironically I have never having smoked a day in my life. I will be going into surgery in the next few weeks to have the tumor removed taking with it part of my lung. The breathe is to remind me of so many things this year, of the work I'm going to have to do to be able to breathe normally again, of stopping the sheer terror I feel at a cancer diagnosis and to just be present in the moment, a reminder that as long a I can take a breath and as long as I am alive then the fight isn't over.

I have enjoyed watching your content for a while now. I have had some inkling to what you have been going through these past few years through your honesty when you speak of your son and your anxiety.. I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through. Our family lost 4 family members within a few months back in September of 2020 through June of 2021. 3 of them were from the same family which were my 2 cousins and their mom and the other was my cousin's daughter. The grief that still lingers is immense and I feel like it will never end. With that being said, I commend you, Mary Ellen for being as strong as you are and having the courage to move forward and not let your anxiety keep you from doing so. Thank you for being an inspiration to me to try and move forward even though I feel like I can't. Lord knows I need to because my daughter and daughter-in-law are both expecting baby girls in May of 2023. I will keep you in my daily prayers.
OAN: I would like to be entered into the giveaway if possible. Thank you.

My sister told me about your channel the other day when we got together to set up our planners for next year. I just LOVE your chattiness and your creativity. I'm leaning toward the word GROW for 2023. I want to grow in faith, knowledge and in my self-esteem. I also want to simplify, my mother passed away earlier this year, and I'm still living with all her belongings. My daughter was killed in 2020, so I need to go through things and just give up things that I'd been saving for her and my granddaughter. There's no point in hanging onto physical items that don't make me happy, so I may have two words. Grow and Simplify. I'd love to be entered in your contest.

New Sub here-and fairly new to planning.
I so understand the feelings of wanting to stay home, especially after losses. I’m the same way. Have lost both my parents now, my MIL, 2 BIL’s, 2 Employers, close friends, and my son. Each loss is a different heart ache. 2022 I lost a BIL and my 94 yr old Mother.
I chose Courage for my word of the year.
Courage to face all the things coming in this new year; Courage to face other people; courage to share my Faith in Jesus; Courage to face any health challenges and financial challenges; Courage to face myself; Courage to say “no” sometimes…
Courage to step out of my comfort zone-maybe do YT or IG posts. ???
I loved your creativity in this spread! Very unique!!

I think my word(s) of the year is going to be “good enough”. Both as a reminder to work on my perfectionism and to take criticism less personally. I appreciate contrastive feedback, but as a teacher I receive a lot of criticism on a daily basis that actually has nothing to do with me (school or district policies and decisions, societal issues, taking out stresses at home on me, etc.). This year my goal is to remember that I am good enough that criticism like that doesn’t detract from my worth, and that I don’t have to do everything perfectly. There are a lot of things in life that only need to be “good enough”, and then I have more energy for the things that are important. I also have a tendency to avoid starting tasks and projects I don’t have the time or energy to do perfectly, so I want to work on doing those things “good enough”.

My word this year is Simplify. My word always just comes to me - without trying to find it it’ll just pop in my head over and over randomly usually starting in December when I start thinking of the new year and a fresh start so to speak. It’s like my mind knows what’s needed. It’s weird.
For me the WOTY is something to hold on to and to give you focus. It reflects your goals for that year and also the mood you want for aspects of your life. It’s not a resolution where you have to reach some end-goal tied into the word but instead it helps focus your goals you have and also your wellness. And although you may not feel like you “used” your word to its fullest potential during the year - I am a firm believer that you are closer to your goal and to realizing your word than you would have been without it.

this year was the first time that i've done the word of the year thing. i've always done (well, attempted to do) like big goals for the year, but i had never really been very good at it. i also have adhd and that overwhelm brain fog can be so incredibly real. so for 2022, i decided to give myself a little grace and chose "progress" for my year because even a little bit of progression was better than nothing at all.
that being said, my word for 2023 is going to be flourish and i think it's a step above progress in my head. using what i learned/achieved last year to dive into the upcoming year.

I'm new to your channel and I just need to tell you how sorry I am about the loss of your husband and your son. Sending positive thoughts to you for your continued perseverance.
I don't always do a word for the year because several years back I chose a "life" word. That word is Onward and I had a bracelet made with the word printed on it. However, this year I decided to choose a word and that word is Brave. My sister gave me a necklace with a pendant saying "Still I Rise" and a mini-charm saying "Brave." That's part of the reason I chose it, but another reason is I just want to be brave again. Since the pandemic, I 'm dealing with so much social anxiety. If I make plans to go out with friends (or even family sometimes), in the days leading up to it I have terrible anxiety. I want my bravery back! Also, I'm writing my first novel and I need to be brave for that too. Anyway, thanks for sharing your word and experiences. I'm now subscribed and I look forward to watching more of your videos. 💜

So, I was thinking "consistency" would be my word. But I have recently moved (after living in the same town for 53 yrs.) and have had a year of craziness, a family death, being a nomad for 3 months, finally moving in(6 hours away from all my friends) and having total knee replacement. From one introvert to another, I love this word. It's part of my WotY too!
2022's word was Reclaim, and yes I did. A lot of work went into every facet of my life -- home/work/personal stuff. Reclaim was 100% the absolute most perfect word.
Next year, my focus is shifting a bit. I know what I want continue working on and I have some lofty goals. I had a long list of words, but I kept coming back to the same three: Appreciate, Connect, and Thrive. Any one of these would be a fantastic word for 2023. I'm going to shake things up a bit -- I plan to use all three and turn them into an acronym. A.C.T. will be my word for 2023. I will appreciate this life, I will connect with folks, I will thrive, and I will ACT on it. Thank you for sharing, Mary Ellen.

Mary Ellen my word is JOY because I too am a introvert and have experienced major loss also. And joy is missing from me. I am sad and lonely and frustrated with family. Divorce is. Fuel and people only think of themselves not their children. I know first hand as a child and as the the adult and now as a grandparent. I have now seen it from all sides…. And I am in the saddest point in my life. I no longer feel joy in all my old favorite hobbies or anything except God. Even in the gift of believing I am strained. So I thought if I see the word and focus on it I can focus on it. To list things I find joy in and reconnect with them. Thank you for sharing your thought process. You picked a great word.

I want to enter…was just thinking the other day I want to get a better handle on budget, especially as we have added several things to our repertoire. So your choosing a budget planner was so perfect!
Covid should be called The Year of the Introvert! Totally understand what you’re saying. If I have too much going and doing for the week I struggle. I need a balance of being home/having down time.

I joined this community January 2020 and God gave me the word GLOW. 2021 it was GRACE and 2022 it has been GROWTH. My 2023 word will be ARMOR - as in the full armor of God. I have not been prepared for the battle that’s coming up but He will protect me, when I do my part. You have been inspirational through all of your ups and downs and I do keep you in prayer. I would like to be involved in the give-away. Be blessed!!!

My word of the year is time. The past five years have been filled with coping with divorce, the death of both parents, the loss of close friends and family and my home. I took constant care of both parents before they passed away and had a job that required me to daily devote myself to supporting others. I thought I just wanted freedom to finally have a "life" after so much heartache and caretaking. Through the guidance of God, I realize that I now have the luxury of time. I made the decision to retire on my birthday and take advantage of the time to take care of ME-whatever that means. I enjoy listening to you and its healthy to share what's on your mind and in your heart. Thank you!.

Hi Mary Ellen!! I've been watching your videos for about 3 years. Even though I've never commented before I do want to say that I love your spreads!! You are very talented!!! II'm not sure what my word is going to be. If I'm being honest I've never had a word. But I want to start on 2023. I would like to enter the giveaway. I also wanted to let you know that you've been in my prayers!! I lost my baby boy Carlitos 10 years ago. I know exactly what you're going through but let me tell you the Lord has helped me so much!!! I started reading the Bible about 4 years ago and I tell you Jesus has healed me!! He gives me strength everyday to keep going on with my life. I know that the holidays are always the hardest, his birthday and the anniversary of his passing. But you know what keeps me going with a big smile on my face? The fact that there's Eternal Life!!! So now I look at it differently. Instead of saying: "It's been 10 years since his passing" I like to say " 10 years closer until we meet again!!" I pray that God heals your heart!! Have a blessed day!! 😘

My word of the year is release! I started words of the year because of your videos. I found your channel when I was new to planning. Your videos have helped me so much. Not only with creativity. But just having someone consistent to watch that shows the good bad and ugly. I chose my word because I have a lot of healing to do. There has been family issues and I have let my weight be affected. I’m using the word release to let go of those things that I hold onto. It’s causing intense anxiety and depression. I want to feel free, and just work on myself and heal from the inside out. I would love to enter the giveaway. That was one journal I wanted to get. I didn’t just yet and decided on the fitness journal!!! Thank you for such wonderful videos and really opening up and explaining what your going thru. You never know when it will truly help someone !!!

Hi Mary Ellen! First of all, my word of the year is "Heal".. I have been following you for a couple years now! I don't have enough time to tell you how much your talking through the videos have meant to me! We are so similar in many ways! I am 72 and live in Wisconsin, but personally, we are quite similar and you have helped me in so many ways! I Especially your video about your son dying. My so died near the same time, at 51 and unexpectedly of heart problems! You have helped me with that grief that I am still dealing with. Also, I am also an introvert, and I have really appreciated you talking about being an introvert, and what that means and how you deal with it. I always was confused and thought some was wrong with me! Now I feel more comfortable with it, and feel better dealing with it! I am OK! I am choosing "heal" because I have just dealt with breast cancer this year Oct thru Dec. I went through radiation and am doing well! I want to get healthy in mind and body in this new year! I have found you a couple years ago since I discovered Happy Planner! Iove your videos and we have similar taste! You always make me laugh (and sometimes cry because you have helped me personally) Of course I also have dogs! Thank you for being there for me!

Good morning, Mary Ellen. I would love to win the new budget journal. I didn't care for their previous layouts but I've been liking the looks of this one.
Sounds like you've had quite the journey. I think the shut down turned a lot of people into introverts. I always thought of myself as an extrovert but I've come to the conclusion I like people on my terms LOL. Either I want to socialize or I don't. I live in the middle of no where. A trip to my favorite coffee shop is the one thing that drags my behind out of the most once a week. LOL
My word of the year is Consistency. I want to be more consistent in my social media marketing, my writing, my journaling, my decluttering. My psychic suggested we put Evolutionary in front of our word of the year because we will be continually evovlving through the process.
    Happy Planning!

I can relate to your commentary on being an introvert. The older I get, the less I want to go out. I am such a homebody. It takes so much for me to go out socially. But when I do go out, I feel better. I have had a hard time coming up with a word. But as someone else commented, I think I am going to use Focus. Focus on doing more reading and less time on social media. Organizing. Budgeting. Health. Creativity. All the things we set for ourselves the first of the year. Would like to enter the giveaway. Wishing you a wonderful New Year!

Maryellen, Were we twins separated at birth??? So MANY of the things you have said in this and other videos (like last year's self-care letting go video) , from introvert to chronic pain, to ADD, to depression, to past trauma, to grief, to RUclips channel, to wanting to help others, to ... to ... so many of the little things you mention are exactly what I have been dealing with all my life (60+ years). The planning and reading self-help to change yourself to not being happy when you don't measure up to your own expectations for yourself.. I "should" all over myself all the time. I want to be as brave as you are to be open on my channel about these things too. I'd love to have a conversation with you sometime, just to know we are not alone in feeling as we do. I'm doing your Letting Go list this year!! Genius! Maybe I can share my "Ta-Da" list idea with you. If you are interested in a conversation and have any time at all, PM me and I'll send you my email. Thanks for reading this. W

Hello Mary Ellen! I have watched your video twice and read all the comments trying to figure out my 2023 word. I was starting to get anxiety trying to find the perfect word. 😮 I too am an introvert and have ADD. I love being home and enjoy being by myself doing my crafts. My husband is the opposite. He gets his energy bank filled up by being with people. My health is a hot mess! I finally found my word for 2023. I liked Deb Whitmore’s word and explanation of “Restore”. One area that I need to restore is financially. I will like to be entered in drawing for the Budget notebook. Thanks for all your great videos. 🥰. Happy New Year!

My Word of the Year is Dream. We've had so many deaths and losses (we were even homeless for a few weeks) in the past 3 or 4 years. All these losses showed me that life is too short. My huge goal for 2022 was to retire early so I could concentrate on other things...my dreams...one of which was to finish writing my novel that I started years ago. I accomplished the goal to retire in November. So, my big goal in 2023 is to finish that book!

I'm thinking that my word of the year should be either intention or purpose as I want what I buy to have a purpose, I need to buy intentionally and not impulsively, because we, as a family, have goals for travel and to renovate certainparts of the house. I wish to stop procrastinating and use my time with purpose and intention, I need to stop "wasting time" all the time and intentionally make blocks of time in my day so that I can accomplish what I want in my house, my projects, my health and mental health and I feel that I don't always have a purpose in mind at a point and let myself get distracted to the point where I have wasted hours and didn't even notice. I would love the opportunity to enter the giveaway ❤ and don't worry about having such a lengthy vid3o, I love watching real time planning and tought process because that way I don't feel weird it takes me a lot of time

My word this year is “present”. I want to be present, focused and centered in all my moments this year.
Grief causes us to detach very often and I took it and ran with it. I love my home so I enjoy being in it most (like you) and the pandemic shutdown allowed me to enjoy my days with my kids (grown up) and husband. Last year I realized that I wasn’t “connecting” with my friends and extended family and I made a big effort to do so. This year I want to go further and make sure I’m present and focused so that the people I love feel important to me. It takes making lists of people I’d like to see and then monthly reaching out and making dates. A little work but a lot of good times have happened because of it.
Present- this year I will be present in all of my moments 😊
