Yes!!!!! You are such an unstoppable and strategic runner, Tim!!!!! Stay safe and strong. 🙏
You have plenty of time to feed data into Stryd to come up with a race plan for Chicago, they even have the course file already uploaded into the Race Calculator. For now, just run, let the data build up. Once you are sure you are safe to really push yourself, the 3min/12min CP test protocol is probably the easiest to get a good initial CP. Or just run a max effort 5k, which is even easier, but maybe a tad riskier than the 3min/12min max efforts. But if you aren't ready to push that hard, don't worry about it. Just run, build that aerobic base again, build the leg muscle/tendon/ligament strength again. Don't chase trying to refresh the PDC (Power Duration Curve) till you are truly healthy and ready. Once you have a decently accurate CP, you'll have a good benchmark to go into the marathon, approximately 88-89% of your CP given your previous marathon experience. Maybe higher, I generally end up in the 91-92% range, but I'm really bad at pushing myself on CP tests, so as a result we feel my CP is always underestimated.
Echoing @timrenhold3698 comments. You will need a CP test to keep your PDC somewhat accurate. Might be a while before you can go hard enough for that. CIM would be a good course to use the Stryd on. It's downhill but VERY hilly. Rollers basically the whole way. Lots of runners complained about how bad their quads were wrecked at the end. Plus lots of runners along the course stretching during the race. LOL Nobody accurately described how many hills there were on that course. Of course, I'll forever love it because that is where my 26.2 marathon PR is from.
I like to run with the power screen on, keeps my pace and effort consistent with flats and inclines no matter what the training effort is. Stryd training is amazing and really helped me this last couple of years. The race estimate has been pretty spot on and on the day does a great job if you have uploaded the course, pretty much like pace pro on garmin. I've also found I've been injured far less if at all when on plan. Good luck with it buddy 👍
Hey thanks for the info. I greatly appreciate it. Have a great day.
I am running CIM this December. I will be training with Stryd training plan this time around as well but I will have to start training specifically for it in early August as I have some vacation coming late July. How do you like your Mount to Coast S1?
I’m liking them a lot. I’ll likely keep them in my rotation after I’m done reviewing them. Have a great day!
