As an Iranian I love seeing two Iranians with totally opposing views and high levels of passion debate without getting bitter. Props for remaining gentlemen
I don’t always agree with PBD but what I love about him is he brings on guests that have opposite beliefs of what he believes in. He definitely believes in freedom of speech and freedom of thought.
His stands on the murderous regime of the shah being better than the murderous regime of the mullahs was truly aweful. It's so unfortunate that some folks keep grasping for a facade that is nostalgia for the past instead of moving forward and plea for true democracy and freedom. There is literally NO room for monarchy in the POLITICAL realm. Why does he even care?? It's done and over with, get over it. He's a Pahlavist as Reza said, I have no respect for that political affiliation one bit, it truly shows a stunt in your political understanding and development and honestly makes me doubt the intelligence of anyone who still fights for the reputation/legitimacy of a monarchy in this day and age.
Fully agree brother. This is the only path forward for us. Even if we only find common ground on the ends, but not the means, is a great place to start. We should celebrate that and emphasize that.
Maybe 5% more emotion, dude the control he has on if you think about how attached to this he is personally. I know for a fact I couldn’t stay that composed and I believe I’m fairly emotionally controlled. I looked up to him, nothing more emotionally taxing to these two guys. Regardless what you believe they are both real men, respect to both ❤❤❤❤❤ nothing but love the world needs more of this then ever.
this conversation went word for word 100% the same way two cubans who get together talk about cuba. Reminds me of hearing my stepdad talk about cuba all the time. In both countries nothing has changed since I've been born.
Same with Chinese families too! Holy moly every family gathering that turns political about the “old country” always results in a shitshow, none of these countries deserve the ‘leaders’ who are running them to the ground
Worst I’ve seen… PBD let the guy finish his points. Argumentative, interrupting… Your emotions are too much for a logical conversation. You don’t need another Adam…
This Mr. Reza looks like he is high on something , my guy has illusion about Iran. This dude didn't live in Iran since 1979 Its like arguing with who's aggree with Flat earth theory.there is no point!!😅
Yeah…except when hes about to lose an argument he instantly resorts to “you have to be naive to believe that!!? Pat has never admitted to being wrong, simply wont happen
@@jtstevenson81 im sure you would. Because how else will you counter logic? By arguing and dancing around it without addressing directly. Youre in denial
@@Abdulrahman-gj5vh Reza didn't make a single logical point the entire time. PBD called him naive because he equated the two sides of being equally murderous regimes. It's a popular refrain on the Left, because you guys love making excuses for criminals. Reza and his ilk are far left douches.
the example of not letting iran get nuclear weapon is like of castrating a man, all so that Israel can go rampage in the middle east without fearing any threat, because the n°1 military in the world has it's back so it can win any NON nuclear war, at the end it's all about who have the biggest gun, it's an existential threat
@@Omar-jy1gr absolutely. Unfortunately there is a group like PBD who white-wash the past and are stuck in a "lost era" which never existed anyway. They are the pahlavists and will die defending the reputation/legitimacy of a family whose name doesnt belong in the political conversation of this day and age. Majority of the people would agree with Reza on this. I'd say max 20% PBD (being generous), 70% Reza, and 10% who are still affiliated with the regime and would like to see both men dead lol.
This is why PBD is one of the best! He constantly brings on people who disagree with him or have different opinions which is what we need! Keep doing what you do PBD don't change
and those generations born pre 1990 needed to be doing what we are doing now, which is uniting and not complaining about minimum wage trying to afford a $1.2M house while driving a tesla hahaha
well...lol..at least you are honest.....this conversation is super important.. so Imagine that Iran is a student who has been accused of cheating on a test. The other countries in the world are the teachers who are concerned about the student's behavior and want to make sure that he is not cheating in the future. To ensure that the student(Iran) is not cheating, the teachers agrees to give the student a series of extra assignments and to watch him closely while he completes the assignments. In return, the teachers agrees to give the student a good grade, not to punish him for past misbehavior, and to give him some extra money. This is similar to the way that the Iran nuclear deal worked, with the international community imposing restrictions on Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions and the release of Iranian funds that had been frozen overseas.. ::PBD:: believes giving money to the parent (government) is not the way to solve the problem cause he argue the parent are corrupt and they dont care for their kid..... ::REZA:: argues that there are reliable systems in place that will make sure the parent will give the money to the student (government to the people)..but they both agree that are no safe way to give the money directly to the student -- TEACHERS(USA) STUDENT(IRAN PEOPLE)
Israel has probably the best intelligence agency in the world, especially on Iran. If Israel said Iran is still working on Nukes their are only two possibilities Iran was still working on nukes or Israel was engaged in a misinformation campaign. One thing for sure is that Israel knows whether Iran is working on nukes or not.
Let's cut the shit The Islamic Republic and the US government will never ever have peace The Iran deal just bought some time The Trump admin just went back to the basic game play. Sanctions sanctions sanctions and more sanctions.
If this topic interests you not and you were "unwillingly" witnessing it, then no offense, but you are part of the problem. It is this attitude that has kept us basically abused daily by this regime and we say nothing. You just wanna eat food and dance and not deal with anything of importance or conflict. I don't mean offend to you personally but to not even have interest in the conversation is really bad bro.
@@amireghbal9892 not every after dinner uncle debate is informative. Most of the times people disagree just to disagree. Love conversations like this. Im not sure he was expecting this type of interview, but it had to be done. If politicians talked like this, we’d find out alot. Great work
Yea but Patrick didn't listen to this dude at all. He was trying to make him pick a side and this dude thinking outside the matrix....he's saying not to pick any side bc is all corrupt
Patrick was all feelings and little facts. You would think he would have a nuanced appreciation of US-IRAN relation. He sounds like a Lindsay graham, or another chicken hawk. His main argument is they-the Iranian regime ‘hates’ us and they said death to America. So we make policies based on political sloganeering. What a simpleton

Since the first day I started following PBD I used to think of Patrick as an intelligent person. Sadly, this interview exposes that an intelligent person can become so stupid when his judgemental is clouded by sentiment of blanket hatred for a country hates so much.
Very often he is proven wrong on his opening statement with facts and interrupts alot when guests are smart when is his own right wing guests he let's them talk more
Of course, like all the other Americans, he’s being an American as well. I don’t think he knows much about Shahs Regime. If he did he wouldn’t be such a staunch supporter of Reza Shah.

Only Reza's thoughts were informative. Half a day of his life, wasted on talking to PBD but at least the people who follow PBD got to hear a smart guy explain foreign policy as regards Iran, for a change.
Is there any time Patrick answer a question? This is a really good and respectful conversation, but could be more good if he understand people has other position or he can listen and understand the other position.
From what I see no. I don't understand how his podcast is popular. Interupting and calling his guest neive is a common theme from what i have seen., while being afraid to entrain ideas you disagree with.
As a viewer from Samoa🇼🇸 I’m a massive fan of Patrick and what he’s doing to the MSM…I know alot about whats happening in the world from PBD podcast. FYI, in this debate I am impressed how composed Pat is and the other guy was getting frustrated to the point he was swearing alot😂
To be fair Patrick was putting word in his mouth when the guy refused to choose the previous (slightly less murders) regim over current ( murders) regim and said neither .
But if you truly understand the history of the Iranian Revolution you would be very frustrated at PBD too and I actually commend Reza for being almost saint-like here with his patience in even being able to speak and explain his rebuttals and reasoning to PBD....As a viewer viewing this painful debate I'd wish I can reach my hand into the monitor and choke some damned reason and reality into PBD.

He was indirectly defending mullahs. Isnt it strange he is asking for a nuclear deal (giving mullahs billions) and less sanctions? He is a slimey puppet.
Exactly! Patrick is showing how emotional and delusional he is when it’s the U.S government (CIA) which overthrown the democratic elected president back in 1954 and installed the Shah who was an oppressive American PUPPET. The current Iran leaders are the RESULT of America’s FAILED foreign policies throughout the world. They create more problems than they actually solve.
We are already in the big crash , inflation is a catastrophe. This CPI report is a colossal failure. To bring the housing market to a halt, the FED will have to pull all the stops . The unfortunate issues is that the other market are being decimated. If you want to stay green ,you have to rely on a lot of diversification. Currently up 15% and being carful. Still a better deal than leaving it in a savings or checking account yielding 0-1 percent interest.
People believe their currency has the worth it does because they have no other options. Even in a hyper-inflationary environment , individuals must continue to use their hyper-inflationary currency since they likely have minimal access to other currencies or gold /silver coins.

It seems to me like it is the first time I have seen PBD lost his cool and not listen to someone. Big topic for Patrick and I 100% get it. But you both were talking alone at one point. Hope Iran will find a way to topple this hellbent regime.
As a Venezuelan I empathize with the Iranian situation. It's frustrating to see that any effort by the international community only makes the regime stronger.
"Iternational Community" being a handful of Nations with no choice but to agree with the US and UK regimes, a handful out of 214 countries and territories. It's such a term of delusion.
It's not exactly like that.. In fact when talking UK and Russia you're talking about the one and only true conflict which has been constantly for about 2 centuries.. except for 4 occasions in which they made an alliance all of whom involves Iran at its center.. the WWI, WWII, Iran Nuclear Program and the 2020 events.. But you got one thing right which is that the US is the younger BIGGER brother of the UK
Not related to this video but since you're Venezuelan Ever watch the show Hunting Hitler on the history channel? Just got through watching 3 seasons and was surprised about how many Nazis ended up in Venezuela, Uruguay, and some other places in South America. As well as how many leaders supported them. It's even a possibility Hitler ended up there himself. Ever hear about any of that or know any Germans that their families came around the 1940s??? Also makes me wonder if that's why America was involved in coups in South America. That led to the governments being overthrown.
Man i love how you use Farsi words ! I speak to my children the same way and this year for first time after 30 years I have one Persian student. I tell her one or two Farsi word between our conversations and it just makes my day❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

Fascinating conversation Patrick. Thank you for bringing him on and having a civil conversation. Finally having two people who actually lived in Iran giving their opinions is such a fresh air. @Regis Johnson you are aware the nuclear deal was solely founded on the hope (lol) that a country that kill women for not wearing a burka corrrectly would liberalize and not want a nuclear weapon after like 15 years of trade and exposure to western media. The deal was not in perpetuity, it had an end date, at this end date Iran would have more money, knowledge, and scientist - after china failed to liberalize, you are really saying a further extreme Iran would do so in less time?
@Regis Johnson believe me, I know sanctions do not work. And neither will “liberalization” (most societies view the west as decadence and collapsing) There are two options, either “we” (the United States military) make it so they are not nuclearly armed, or we allow the leaders of the nation to pursue what they deem is correct and hope that mutual assured destruction still works (as it has for 70 years) I am in the latter camp

The ones with affiliation are the ones we need to worry about..... You legally immigrate to a country and become a citizen then you need to assimilate. Like Lonnie said, no room for hyphenation.
That’s because the “Persians” living outside of Iran are they only Iranians who want no affiliation with their government. The majority of irans love their government and don’t want to live abroad. Apply 1% of your brains capacity

Patrick missed the point that Reza was making about stimulating the Iranian economy and how that would help the Iranian people. This would empower the people of Iran to push for change. Patrick seems to be lost in his hatred on the current Iranian regime and his love for the United States of America.
@@DanReh thank you for your insight. I saw that too. But my interpretation of what Pat was saying is that he wanted to know how the money would get into the hands of the people. Because what it sounds like is, it has to go through the corruption of the Iranian regime and the money would not go to the people. That’s just my take on this conversation (video clip). I am definitely not educated on the history of politics in these countries. 😊
@@DanReh also just curious…what Rez is suggesting for the Iranian people, is that the same strategy the US tried to do for Afghanistan and it’s people before we exited a couple years ago?
@@Candice-Tara The strategy in Afghanistan was invasion through military force. We are not talking about military invasion here. So, it’s not the same strategy as Afghanistan. And Afghanistan was a disaster on many levels but I digress. What Reza is doing in this video is defending the JCPOA, which is the Iran Nuclear Deal under the Obama administration. Reza argues that removing sanctions from Iran is a good idea because it allows for policies that lead to the economic liberalization of Iran. I’ll give you a quick example. One of the items that is currently banned under the sanctions on Iran are carpets. So, if you are a carpet maker in Iran, you cannot sell your carpets internationally. You are cut off from the international market place. All sanctions do is hurt the Iranian people, not the government. The government is able to make money though black markets. Now the government is more powerful and the people are less powerful. It’s become almost impossible for Iranians to rise up against the government. Reza makes the point that 45 years of sanctions has made the people poor and the government rich. The policy of blanket sanctioning Iran doesn’t work. Removing sanctions gives the Iranian people access to the international market place, which leads to economic liberalization. The Iranian people start becoming powerful because they are making money and gaining capital. Patrick keeps arguing the money doesn’t go to the people. But it’s does, through these economic policies. However, these same policies also benefit the Iranian government. Patrick is completely blinded by his hate of the Iranian regime and he doesn’t see the big picture. He is complete caught up in the 150 billion dollars (which is part of the JCPOA deal, and is money that belongs to Iran anyways) going to the Iranian regime. He just doesn't seem to understand that Iran would have to pursue economic policies that would benefit the Iranian people. His "brilliant" idea having the US government stage a coup. This is nuts and will get a lot of innocent people killed.

I love PBD, and do not understanding politics in Iran, but I think in this case PBD let his emotions get the best of him. Even though Reza is more animated, his points make more sense and PBD didn’t have a strong rebuttal so he just keeps going back to the money even though Reza said multiple times that the money was never meant to go to the people. Very interesting conversation for sure.
you are absolutely right. personally PBD comes across a bit too woke.. PBD: "So you support negotiating with a nation that hates america?" Reza:" we dont negotiate with country that just love us we negotiate with everyone"
Patrick, as an Iranian, it's important that we have diverse perspectives. We can disagree and still coexist peacefully. There's a spectrum of Iranian viewpoints, from those similar to yours to those aligned with organizations like NIAC, and even those with ideas like the Iranian regime. By engaging in open dialogue and tolerating different opinions, we can foster growth and progress.
Love seeing discussions like this. I see no bad blood, just a passions conversation. Both people wanting the same thing, but have different ways about it.
In this case, PBD was schooled by Reza. He couldn’t comprehend Reza’s argument that the free market will give access to the people of Iran and the sanctions is killing the people of Iran!
I agree 100% ... we just got back from visiting Iran. From speaking to common people of different backgrounds, I feel the people would be a lot happier and self-sufficient if they had access to the free market. Regardless of the government, people just want to live. America does not care about THE PEOPLE, the sanctions are hurting THE PEOPLE. With America, it's always about self-interests.
@@davidchang5265sure you may be right! But, sanctions are not helping the people either. The sanctions ought to end. But it won’t because the powers that be do not care about the people.
@@davidchang5265 and how is sanction gonna help the people? Just look at the history of the US in the international stage, u can’t be serious if you think the US cares about the people of these other countries. They want control and they will get it at all cost, as history has proven.
Patrick speaks out of emotions while Reza speaks facts. Both the Shah and current regime was/is based on dictatorship and any critisim was met with severe punishment. Now the argument Reza is making is both regimes were bad while Patrick indirectly saying he would pick the lesser of 2 evils because he personally experienced the treatment under the current regime as he was too young to young to understand what went on during the Shahs regime.
It is insane how it took just one chat to expose how ignorantly arrogant, extreemly biased and disturbingly chauvinist Patrik is. I had lots of respect to him prior to watching this video.. Ps: I am not Iranian and judging solely based on his reactions here...
in this interview I noticed that Patrick is not that sharp. You can tell his lack of deep thinking on this topic. He can't surpass layer 2 and I think him not having studied anything is the reason for it.
I'm from there, and I can guarantee it with my life that Patrick is right. What Aslan is saying sounds good but, in actuality, strengthens and enriches the regime. A lot of people like Aslan are puppets and useful idiots of the Islamic Republic.
Like it or not , you are the Iranians the average American connects with the most. Please continue this dialogue!!! We need more and more of this !! Thank you
I agree.. Pat was lowkey the same as those he claimed are happy with the tension in the region. He acts like he cares about the Iranians then proceeds to say send weapons. So to him, I'll say this.. Listen, big boy.. Syria is your most recent example as well as Libya. How did that turn out? Assad is still there and only the people have suffered deaths and injuries while the regime remained intact. In Libya? Qaddafi died but now they have rogue militias and literal human slave markets. Don't sit there and try to fool the average Joe that that is your first solution ffs. And I'm middle eastern, and I'm telling you this as you sit on your high horse talking about weapons this revolution that. If your government dared to send us weapons, the people would not be on your side regardless of their stance with there regime. Ask Iraq too. But hey, typical hardcore capitalist who finds virtue in imperialism. I'm not surprised. And you dare talk about "naive" while you ignore recent events.
@@popo12920 it was not, don't rewrite history. Shah's crimes cannot be hidden despite him having the duplicitous media's backing. The current gov't of Iran cannot be cleanly analyzed because of all the propaganda from Shah-leaning outlets.
It was obvious he would say send weapons. That’s when we know who is who as Iranians. Sending weapons while collectively punishing everyone is literally what Irans enemies like Israel and Saudi Arabia want. He basically offered the Bolton/Pomeo plan for Iran which is the same as Syria. To weaken and destroy the nation as a whole.
As an IranianI I find it interesting that both of these guys have left Iran many years ago when they were only a kid and when the population of the country was 1/3 of what it is now. Lower poulation always means more facility richer people, less problems etc. For example we only have almost ten million Afghan refugees living in the country so the situation is very different from what they have in their minds. By the way I find Reza more reasonable in this debate. The problem with PBD is he thinks very idealistic and he forgets the fact that the country is heavily surrounded by Isis, Taliban, Al Qaeda etc. Any revolution or instability of the country can lead to a HUGE disaster for ordinary people. These terrorist groups did not exist when he left Iran and the situation was totally different. Also he thinks only the Clergies(Akhounds) in Iran are morons and deceitful and the American politicians are Saints and honestly I dont think so.
I agree with you fully! Where I lost respect for PBD, was when he pleaded to the Israeli government to start flooding Iran with weapons about a year ago during the protests. It’s not like he hasn’t seen what happened to Lydia and Syria. What he proposed would lead to millions of deaths and I’d never forgive him for that absolutely stupid plea! So there.
Patrick is an instigator, he not only "Capitalist", he is an Imperialist as well. The USA, Britain destroyed Iran is the early days, Iran does not have a history within the past 200 hundred years to be sailing or riding across the world, enslaving people, committing genocide, annihilations, assassinating leaders, overthrowing administrations, stealing resources and filing their greedy pockets etc. The Shah is no one to speak of. Had not for the West, they would not be having this discussion. Patrick has no standing in opposition of Iran, or support for the USA, his position bias and hypocritically misplaced. The Nuclear programme, Iraq and Libya are good reasons why N. Korea hold on to their weapons because, if they destroy them, NATO will be at their doors.
What a truly excellent discussion between two men with different opinions on certain issues, but both with great love for Iran and its people under despotic rule.
This was an excellent discussion and very profound because amid the disagreements and the raising of voices and passionate debate one was able to discern what the main points of contention were. This is 100 times better than anything you will ever read on the mainstream media

Same with Chinese families too! Holy moly every family gathering that turns political about the “old country” always results in a shitshow, none of these countries deserve the ‘leaders’ who are running them to the ground

16:00 “You are defending khomenei“ after 16 minutes of conversation Patrick shows that while Reza is talking he is not listening. During that he only prepares his next argument. 😂 what a joke
*BEWARE OF REZA!* He doesn't support Trump or the populist Republicans.

What a fun discussion to observe. Don’t know a ton about Iranian politics, but it’s a good thing they live in America and can discuss these things freely
It seems to me like it is the first time I have seen PBD lost his cool and not listen to someone.
Big topic for Patrick and I 100% get it. But you both were talking alone at one point. Hope Iran will find a way to topple this hellbent regime.
Yup agreed
Hope the indoctrinated citizens in the west will find a way to topple their secular liberal everchanging moral regime
I enjoy Patricks discussions. Animated and genuinely engaged with great curiosity. This was a fun episode.
It's because they're designed that way..
The $150B was to provide the regime with immunity against an upcoming Trump administration...

Fascinating conversation Patrick. Thank you for bringing him on and having a civil conversation. Finally having two people who actually lived in Iran giving their opinions is such a fresh air. Most of the time we hear Americans or Israelis talking about it. Hearing both of your prospective was very refreshing. Keep the amazing work!
As an Ethiopian, this reminds me of the conversations that the old heads have debating whether Haile Sellasie's Empire, Derg's socialist junta, or Woyane's "pluralistic democracy" were the best conditions of living. I love these type of conversations man. Whichever side you're on, you can't deny that these two love Iran very much just like those countless old heads I heard in these restaurants.
How do they love Iran if they want it to become a vassal of America?
Ethiopia would be a richer and safer place today if Haile Selassie was never murdered in secret during the coup of 1974

@TechDeck your comment got blocked by YT, I can see it though. You’re absolutely spot on!
He's a featherweight ,he knows nothing about the history of things ,i mean basic historical facts you get from reading ..
@Regis Johnson believe me, I know sanctions do not work. And neither will “liberalization” (most societies view the west as decadence and collapsing)
There are two options, either “we” (the United States military) make it so they are not nuclearly armed, or we allow the leaders of the nation to pursue what they deem is correct and hope that mutual assured destruction still works (as it has for 70 years)

@@Coral_dude what you guys are experiencing is the power of propaganda. Brett David is one of the best in the business on the level of Ben Shapiro and Steven Crowder. He does a very good show of making himself seem objective and open to different ideas and such but ultimately he's just pandering to his audience just like most in American media.
The effect of someone watching him insult another guy and then complimenting him for the opposite is evidence of how powerful his techniques are. The ones with affiliation are the ones we need to worry about..... You legally immigrate to a country and become a citizen then you need to assimilate. Like Lonnie said, no room for hyphenation.

Reza Aslan is a traitor. Plain and simple.

you are absolutely right. personally PBD comes across a bit too woke..
PBD: "So you support negotiating with a nation that hates america?"

I agree 100% ... we just got back from visiting Iran. From speaking to common people of different backgrounds, I feel the people would be a lot happier and self-sufficient if they had access to the free market. Where I lost respect for PBD, was when he pleaded to the Israeli government to start flooding Iran with weapons about a year ago during the protests. Damn son this is a great interesting podcast 💪💪🇮🇷🇮🇷🇮🇷
very niceeeeeeeeee!
That’s the wrong flag. There should be a 🦁 in the middle you garbage government supporting clowns
PBD: btw Hitler and Mussolini who was better
Me: Neither
PBD: How dare you pick Mussolini
Hahaha..very funny
Yeah, that question was a bit absurd.
I usually end up agreeing with PBD, but I honestly felt like he didn't do well in this one episode, and that was my "hol' up" moment with him
😅
Shah and Khomeini are not like Hitler and Mussolini
Shah was more like Ben Salman or Sheikhs of UAE and Khomeini was like Ben Laden and Hitler
So Sha wasn't a murderous Dictator?
The guy with the degree knows exactly what is going on on those nuclear deals
I love this guest. He's knowledgeable and bright n has a great grasp of the FACTS.He is so entertaining and engaging. Soooo refreshing. I'm thinking of buying "An American Martyr in Persia" . "Make America Great, Again" ....Persian-style lol
I like this man so much he’s so articulate and well written. I learned a lot
As someone who knows very little about Iran, even I could tell that PBD was being quite dogmatic and himself the naive one but props to both for civil conversation.
I loved hearing them talk about revisit in Iran. You can see the hunger for such a visit ❤
nobody cares what american think about iran .. they have lots of resources beautiful country leave them alone they will take care ..better USA focus on thier internal mess issues
bottom line.... people leave Iran.... for a reason
Patrick clearly got emotional. I was impressed when I saw Pat debate Neil Tyson and how he kept his cool. That objectivity was not present here
I agree got real emotional and used his emotion to express himself and made the man choose .. who tf would choose any of those regime lol crazy
@@fabolousjada5070 youd be surprised how many Iranians unironicaly support the shah. It’s ridiculous
@@fabolousjada5070 Shah is worse
Because it’s his country. Every Iranian you have ever met has had this kind of debate in private at home over dinner. Now it’s public. No way you can stay objective and level headed if Iran was your country
@@alireact1827 Shah was the best shut up. People left Iran as soon as Khomeini came into power
