  • A "Steam Dreams" railtour from London (Victoria) brought this world famous locomotive to Salisbury for the day, A Hampshire countryside circular tour also ran from here during the afternoon. The video records the departure and arrival of the latter and the return railtour to London plus a number of maneuvers including the final turning move. I have also included some of the more interesting modern traction which happened to be working during the day.

Graham, the mix of shots emphasised Salisbury’s continuing place on the UK rail network. The main guest consist, being manoeuvred around, must have taken a great deal of concentration and persistence. I saw another feature, also published on YT, that showed the Flying Scotsman at speed at various points, but your ‘rushes’ have alternative views with greater time to show the beast at close quarters. Thank you for sharing you work.

Hi Peter, I was only there for the afternoon so I missed it arriving and the first turning. At Salisbury you do get the time to appreciate it at close quarters rather than see it rush past in just a few seconds. The other advantage of being at the focal point is that you increase the chance of obtaining sunny pictures. It was a challenge trying to second guess the next manoeuvre of the loco and stock.
      Best wishes,
      Graham
