I just wanna say one thing: the Rockettes is the most amazing show on the earth. Worth every penny. For me the Christmas Spectacular is a MUST if you visit NYC during the holidays.
I go see the Rockettes 3-5 times a year, the show is that good! Been my favorite holiday tradition since I was little, and it never gets old to me!! Highly recommend also taking the Stage Door Tour (you get to meet a Rockette at the end), and if your budget allows, get their top VIP ticket package (you get dinner, open bar, dessert, a seat in the first few rows from the stage, early entry into Radio City, an escort to your seats, and get to meet two Rockettes/Santa). They are truly a classic part of NYC at Christmas, and while some may say it's too touristy or "that's what everyone does, do something different," just go see them once to experience it. You'll be seeing some of the most talented people in the performing arts industry, and get to see a company that has been an iconic part of this city for almost 100 years!
My husband and I are hoping our first ever visit to New York in December 2021 will be as magical as we have always hoped for. We are already booked on a walking tour of Dyker Heights. We have also booked to see the Rockettes show and The Nutcracker, one of our favourite ballets. We have lots of ideas, let’s hope COVID doesn’t destroy our plans. We are already booked for shows, hotels and our ship back to the uk. I know what I want to see, eat and drink.
It's good to be finally one of the first people to comment! I really want to take the time to really express my appreciation for you and your videos! I am currently studying Architecture & Environmental Design and I plan on moving to NYC from Baltimore, MD to continue my studies. I absolutely romanticize about NYC and you truly epitomize what it truly means to be a NYer. Keep up the great work and thanks for the inspiration!
FYI- I did visit the Holy Apostle Soup Kitchen’s website to sign up to volunteer for Christmas week. Have to admit- was a little teary-eyed to see that registration was completely full for the entire week. Nice to know that so many people care. ❤️
I travelled to NYC from the 🇬🇧 last week & I did most of the things you suggested. I booked the VIP ice skating at the Rockafella, it was worth doing to avoid Queuing & the most amazing experience. The Rockettes were AMAZING, the best show I have ever seen, worth every penny! The highlight for me was defiantly a moonlit carriage ride around Central Park. I would suggest booking in advance it’s a lot cheaper. The trip was defiantly a bucket list moment, so special 💫
During Advent, every Sunday until Christmas Eve, the St Thomas Boys and Men Choir are something to see and hear. The angelic voices just make you feel so peaceful. It's also a good respite from the hustle and bustle. It's on 5th Avenue, St Thomas Episcopal church. It's free, if you want to attend the service. They also do Handels Messiah, which you need a ticket for. Also, seeing the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center is wonderful.
I saw the Rockettes last year & it was amazing!!!! It focuses on the story of Christmas & the Rockettes are a bonus. There is not a bad seat in the place. You will really enjoy it.
The Rockettes is a must! I also thought that at night in the financial district at the Stock Exchange the tree there is gorgeous and does not have the crowds that Rockefeller Center has!
The Radio City Show is AMAZING! It literally should be #1 on your list. The only problem is that this almost the same show every year. (Not that that’s a problem.) You can also find discounts online, at Chase Bank and it’s up at the TKTS booth as well. There are also other X-mas shows to see you just have to find them. Another great thing to do are the “Craft Fairs” (Bust, Renegade, etc) These fairs really have unique gifts-all hand made….
Superb!!! Thank you so much ☺️. There is also the Wall Street Tree 🌲 and the markets at Bowling Green Station. All downtown Manhattan if anyone chooses to venture.
We were there at around the same time as you. We stayed for exactly 26 HOURS and then got the hell out of there. Traveling and actually BEING in NYC at Christmas is such an extraordinary let down...I hope your experience is much different. There really is NO magic, everyone is miserable and angry, no one is happy or Joyous, everyone is just trying to get to their next destination. There are hundred's of scammer's on every street, the food is BEYOND outrageous, we paid NINE dollars for a SIX ounce pepsi! EVERYONE demands a tip, and not a small one either, if they grabbed your bag without asking and carried it 5 feet they want a 10 dollar tip. There is NOTHING magical about NYC at Christmas like you see in these videos or on television, it is FILTHY and NO ONE appears to be having ANY fun...it's a soul breaker and the worst of humanity.
Jon. Have you thought about doing a ''Best Retro New York Diner'' list? Sidewalk blocking tourists need to consume a lot of calories when spending all day navigating the mean streets of NYC.
Went to New York during summer and spent a lot of time following your recommendations! My girlfriend and I are returning this winter and i plan on doing the same! Thanks
Finally rode the Nostalgia train the other day ago. I did the downtown route from 125th (it was super packed but I did get a seat) to 2av and rode it back up. so cool to see folks dressed in 1930s wear
Thanks! We’re arriving 17 Dec and have 2 tickets to two Broadway shows and will check out Pepper Lunch on our first day then wherever the crowd takes us the next 6 days!
So excited for my upcoming trip next week with my bestie! Our first time to NYC and a coworker told me to check out your channel. Thanks for all the tips!
Here in NYC, you hit all the great spots!! We had a blast today hitching a ride around Central Park on a electric bike. Nice ride, lots of info...Thank you for info
Definitely Santa land at Macy's! Doesn't matter your age, santa still greets you with open arms... A magical time for those "tall children" (adults) as the elves put it!!
For anyone who wants to volunteer at Holy Apostle , if the day you want is full, don't forget they could use your help all year round! Everyone's hearts are so generous during the holidays, but you can help the shelters and donate anytime
8:28 I like to watch people's videos in order, especially annual holiday ones. So I paused it and went and found your 2018 Top 5 Xmas Markets. It was a good video, plenty of things I haven't seen in others for Xmas in NYC.
I enjoyed your video very much. You asked if anyone had anything to add. Something for the kids or any fire buffs in your audience. Once each Christmas season, an FDNY Tower Ladder responds to the Fire Museum and "rescues" Santa Claus from an upper story window. Great fun.
Radio City Music Hall Christmas show with the Rockettes used to better when you also got the movie that went along with it. I'm guessing that was long before many of you were born. I remember it and it was a great day in NYC.
I was there last week and honestly it’s as expensive as you make it. If you grab food on the go you can really bring the costs down. I also booked all my trips in advance that saved me a lot
My God, Jon. You'd wait 20 minutes for a hot chocolate!!! 2 minutes would be my maximum. I like to get a hot-choc from one of those little kiosks at Bryant Park and watch the ice skating. Merry Xmas to you and the Mrs.
Hahahhaa, I had to experience it for the viewers.. Truth be told, I'd wait that long just to get in there to buy some gifts for family, then order a hot chocolate/croissant to go.
I have been a subscriber and watching and enjoying your videos for a long time. I plan on making my first visit asap in 2020. Thanks so very much. Keep up the great work. Your videos are very helpful.
#HereBeBarr , I have volunteered at First Presbyterian church in #AlbanyNY a few times for their thanksgiving dinner feast and I gotta say, you will meet the best of people while helping the community at these type of events plus it’s good for the soul
Bonjour Jon....C est magnifique....magique...New York se pare de ses plus beaux habits pour Noël...et quelle bonne idée d avoir mis les sous titres en français...merci pour cette féerique vidéo 🎄🎅❤
Will be in NYC during the week of Christmas! I booked free tours by the foot (one for each day) and a couple of broadway plays. I’m nervous about ice skating since I don’t know how but I’ll definitely visit Rockefeller Center just to hang out. I’m also going to Bryant Park to visit the Christmas Village. Central Park had some Christmas shops set up last year so I’ll visit that again this year. So excited!! 😊
I wanted to go to Dominique Ansel’s bakery but was deterred by the long wait! Gotta try their cronut and it’s seasonal too. Recommend to preorder it though since it will sell out.

christmas in NYC and the whole northeastern US is very special, it has a very romantic atmosphere, maybe the climate and architecture.

I was in NYC last week, and the Rockette show is one you shouldn't miss. Just beautiful.

Thanks we’re going !
The blossoming hot chocalate and the window displays impressive 👍👍
Thanks Mick !!
I’m visiting NYC this year in December. Thank you for this video. It’s going to be helpful. 🙏🏽❤️
Don't forget to look for "Actionkid" that would be a highlight for sure!
The Rockettes is a must! I also thought that at night in the financial district at the Stock Exchange the tree there is gorgeous and does not have the crowds that Rockefeller Center has!
Me and my son going to NYC on this December does anyone know with a good place for kid?

All of the different ice skating places would be my favorite also all of the Christmas lights
Dyker Heights is just plain beautiful.
I go multiple times from Sheepshead Bay.
Can make a whole day out of going to Dyker Heights and start off with some great food out in South Brooklyn
THat's an idea worth exploring !
DIAPER HEIGHTS!!
I am going to NYC December 23-7 for the very first time. I want to serve food to the homeless!! Thanks for the link
Superb!!! Thank you so much ☺️. There is also the Wall Street Tree 🌲 and the markets at Bowling Green Station. All downtown Manhattan if anyone chooses to venture.
Bro this video is perfect timing!! Were headed to NYC tomorrow with 3 kids under 6 for the 1st time..should be a blast!!!
Enjoy !!

Thanks Jon and Adriana great video! I had the pleasure to ride those trains before they became nostalgia!
Thanks for the ideas!!
Jon. Have you thought about doing a ''Best Retro New York Diner'' list? Sidewalk blocking tourists need to consume a lot of calories when spending all day navigating the mean streets of NYC.
Actually just the other day I had a similar idea.. walked by Tick Tock Diner near Hudson Yards.
@@HereBeBarr Great minds think alike.
Currently sitting at jfk waiting to fly out. I spent the last 4 days in nyc, and I hate when I have to leave. Nyc during the holidays is my favorite!!
I find it too busy during the holidays. A real pain in the arse.

Hoping this year will bring more normalcy during the holidays
Your videos are so useful! 🙏

I like ice skating at Chelsea Piers. You can see up and down the Hudson from the windows.
Definitely Santa land at Macy's! Doesn't matter your age, santa still greets you with open arms... A magical time for those "tall children" (adults) as the elves put it!!

woooooow,MERRY CHRISTMAS

Something for the kids or any fire buffs in your audience.
Once each Christmas season, an FDNY Tower Ladder responds to the Fire Museum and "rescues" Santa Claus from an upper story window.

Wolman Rink is now as expensive, I believe! $35
I love the Rockettes!
Would it be possible to find out more on Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, especially for this year? Thank you for the holiday season ideas!!
