I think the reason for the 0 score for going first is so that if someone is at 9 points they still have to play and can't just launch their marble and win.
I was very surprised to see that the 1975 original version does indeed score 1 to 4, just as Tom wished this one did. I do see your point though, so now I’m wondering if the change is a good one or not…
Tom, in Sultan’s Wishes the Sultan is a dog because the designer had a dog named Sultan and after he passed away he wanted to create something in honor of him, and made the game around fulfilling his wishes.
Order of Invention is the only game I’ve ever played with Tom (at the Dice Tower Retreat) and since I live in Singapore, it might be the only one ever, so it’s a winner for me!
I think for Beat the 8 Ball they should make the first player in 0 if someone else scores or 5 if everyone else busts. If you just make the first one in a free point it kind of ruins the mood if someone is short only 1 point, but with the 0/5 you can force tension on that person by holding out as long as possible.
I had this game as a kid in the 70's. The reason for the 0 point is because in the 70's version it was as you say 1,2,3,4 points, But if you were near the end of the game and the winning score was to reach 20 points, if someone was on 19 points, they just immediately released their ball, got the 1 point they needed and won the game. I still don't think that th 0 really solves this problem, unless they have chnaged the scoring rules.
Dixit Disney sounds dumb to me, cause people will usually just try to give subtle quotes from certain movies. I feel many will lack the creativity that regular Dixit provides
When he showed the case for Zag, I thought “that doesn’t seem too bad.” And then he showed the components. I’d give it a try, but seems visually frustrating.
About Beat the 8 Ball, I have a completely different opinion, you DONT want to go first, going first is easy, there is no tension and the game should not reward that - Our house rule is as follows: The bottom green score is -1 instead of zero (then +1, +2,... normal), UNLESS you are the only ball that beat the 8 (i.e. everyone else is behind the 8 and getting negatives), in that case you get zero points as normal. This way everyone is encouraged to wait as long as possible, but if you wait to long, you dont beat the 8.
Dixit Disney sounds intriguing because Dixit is a good game with card art that looks do demonic that it scares off most people. So Disney art would be welcome. But, I would not buy this game because if I did anyone who knows Disney stuff would have an advantage.

1:55 that “wow” was hilarious. Well done Tom!
Great to see lots of games coming out of Brazil!

Zag looks really cool

Any place to actually purchase Zag? I would love to use it as a brain teaser with my 5th grade class but can’t seem to find it anywhere. 😢
Man, as soon as Tom said 6 player for Beat the 8 Ball I never wanted anything more.

And the cards only reference one movie. Definitely inferior to the original. Asmodee is getting lazy.
Thanks for the reviews! Interesting games.

So sad, I asked bue orange if they sell beat the 8 ball in Europe but turns out it is Blue orange USA only so we won't get it here
I love Dixit, I love Disney….seems like a good marriage for people like me

Sunglasses have been around waaaaaay longer than 1929.
Yeah I saw Crowley wearing them in like the 1500s in the documentary "Good Omens"
I wonder how many other errors there are in this game.
As a fan of silent films I have seen folks wearing them before 1929. Take that, electric razor!
i love the silly artwork on Order of invention. that alone would make me play it over Timeline.
Garbage bags fyi were invented in Canada, so you're welcome.
I would play Zag with you or anyone. Looks interesting but yea, a lot of people would not like this game.
