I am the same way I do all the fancy decorations in my planner I use colored pens and planner sticks. I got my pens at Walmart they are a 12 pack of the Paper Mate Flair Tip Medium Pens. And my sticker book I got at Barnes and Nobles it’s called So. Many. Planner Stickers by Pipsticks it was $13. I mainly use the grocery and laundry stickers from the book so far.
I love that your focus is on functionality! I have a habit of covering things in stickers and not having enough room for planning. Great reminder that I can always add stickers later!!! Thanks for posting :)
I always write 1st & my keep business/personal planners separate, keeping an extra note sheet in each, for any ideas that pop up then transfer in the missing planner. Small icons instead of writing is a great idea!💕 Interesting video ~ Thanks 🎀
You have beautiful handwriting! I will definitely be watching for the smaller writing video. I’ve been a nurse for 20 years and my writing has gotten bigger and messier every year. Everything is computer charting now and *everything* seems more rushed. Trying to be more present and intentional throughout my life. Love your videos. Thank you for sharing!
I never understood why people put their stickers first! I always use stickers as I write, they complement my appointments, activities and then (if it looks too simple) I put some decorative stickers, but most of the time it looks like a beautiful mess of appointments, checklists, colors and stickers that show how I feel about each item 💓
I wanted to thank you because I’ve been feeling so off this past year (even before covid) and using a planner was a way I always felt in control and I just stopped. Since watching your videos I’m planning my day properly and getting much more done, and it’s keep me happy. Thank you for your videos I love them and your voice, like everyone says, is so soothing. It’s like a hot cup of tea :) xx
This is very informative and really speaks with me right now. I am working in a couple of Happy Planners and I'm getting very caught up in the decorative part (not always a bad thing), but I really do want the system to WORK for me. Your tips are very helpful. Thank you so much!
I noticed you wrote first then added stickers, I tried that and loved it more!! I’m going to utilize some of these other tips this weekend when I start August’s monthly layout. You’re the first account I put the bell on so I catch these as they come out! Quickly you’ve become a top 3 YT account for me. Thank you for all your videos.
For the first, like 4mins of the video, I was thinking “Now we don’t have anything to write down because of quarantine!” But something caught my eye, and I was like “Wait... was this done during quarantine?!” And I checked the date it was posted, and it was... so uh yeah. 😂 Thanks for the tips!!! Needed these badly!!! 😩
I use a mini dashboard planner so this is going to sound specific to that but I did this when I used other layouts, too. When it comes to decorating, pick one smaller area each week to be your "pretty place". For me, it is either the "calls/emails" area or the "bills to pay" area. One of those becomes my to-do area and one is the pretty place. If I am feeling particularly decorative, I may add washi to the top margin of a page. Pleasant side effect to this is that sticker books last much longer, I don't feel the need to purchase stickers as often. I will also decorate more on the monthly overviews because I use the blank squares at the beginning or end of a month for stickers. For me it is the perfect balance between decorative and functional.
Awesome ideas!! Me too, I had to learn to write smaller. A smaller pen point helped with that. You voice is so lovely t5o listen to. Again than you for all you do for this Chanel
Thank you for sharing I LOVE how you do things! I plan a lot like you do and you are teaching me and inspiring me (I am now using 5 Happy Planners in 1 and i love it!)
This was lovely, I'm going to do a practice planner with the part of a planner I have right now and soon I'll look into getting a better one with little icons for my weekly chores and for working out. Thanks for all the advice in your videos!
LOL I’m late to the party on this one but I laughed at your ‘practice writing smaller’ because my notes from high school were so small I would fit 2-3 sentences in each line on the paper. LOL 😂
I have a Happy Planner. I usually only use a mechanical pencil or a black erasable pen in my planners. But this year I finally decided I wanted to try something different. I bought a pack of 12 different colored Paper Mate Flair tip pens medium that don’t bleed through pages. I mainly only use the monthly spreads in my planner. How I decided to color coordinate things in my planner is; red is for work schedule (because our work vest are red), blue for anything related to sports, lime green for pay day, green for bills, magenta for birthday/holiday or holiday gatherings, orange is for appointments, light blue is for vacations or trips, purple is for days I babysit my niece or have zoom meetings, pinks and black are extra colors, yellow is for movies, tv shows or video game release dates that I want to be reminded of, light purple is for events or date nights with my fiancé.
I'm so glad you left this video up. I've had to redo my planning due to changes in my life and I was beginning to get muddled trying to figure this out. This has definitely helped!😊
Wow, this video was so helpful! I loved your tip about only labeling the activity in color and details in black. I get lost in all my color coding sometimes 😂
Very good information. I’m left handed and write so big. I thought I was crazy because I now have a planner for both my bank accounts. I had them both in one and it just didn’t work for me. This for all the tips.
If you could have seen my face when she took the pages out to write in.... I mean, the ingenuity. I've been hating on Wednesday for no reason other than my own oblivion😂
You are amazing! Your planning and planner literally speak to my heart and make me feel so calm. I have been using my phone for years but used to use a Franklin Covey in college. However, I was always spending so much time organizing and planning and making it cute and nicely laid out that I never had energy to actually get anything done. How do I get over that? Also, right now I have to keep an electronic calendar for work but have just invested in a FrankenPlanner system from Happy Planner to help me fee more calm and in control of my day and life since working full time from home while taking care of the home and homeschooling and a new puppy! It should be delivered tomorrow, hopefully. I don’t like to repeat things and write things multiple times, how do I make both planning systems easy and functional and fun. Like you, I look at this as me time too. It really soothes my soul. Thank you so much for your highly informational videos and your soothing voice.
These are my questions too. Planners just keep adding spaces & function and I resist writing stuff in multiple places. My most successful planners were simple ones, many years ago, where work & personal were split by color but in same spread. I can't quite figure out how to effectively use a modern planner vs the spacious ones of 20 yrs ago.
Great Video! You are my Functional Planner Guru. I just started franklinplanning and love the 3 month tips. Great idea for icons I'm tired of big stickers.
Thank you very much for this video, it is helped me a lot! I really like seeing the Franken planning and I want to finally decide how I’m going to do my planning. Your tips were spot on and I am very grateful that you shared!
Hi there, I recently found you and love your planning videos. I also love that you and your husband are church planters! I am an elementary teacher and love the process of planning, but it is hard to find a planner that is designed to meet my needs. Where do you purchase your planners. I notice that you use the happy planner. I went to our local Hobby Lobby and they had a limited selection. Thank you for the work you put into your videos and may the Lord's richest blessings be upon your minisrty.
Hey Guys!! Today's video is all about my top 10 tips for using your planner effectively. Do you have any additional tips for functional planning in a happy planner? Make sure you leave them below.
Hey beautiful, it is possible for you to do a video on the black book with all of your list in it or do you already have one? I was looking but I didn’t find one
When I first saw people put stickers on before writing down all the text, I was so shocked. I've always been more functional with my planner, so I guess the other way didn't even cross my mind.
0:57 “think of all the *planners* that you’re currently using” me with only one planner: 👁👄👁 Lmao jp I just got two new ones and my school gives one out for free
Thank You sis for the simple tips!!! Can i know when u usually review your planner and ensure you on track with your goals? Do you have any specific time for every day/week to do this?
I do events and festivals for my business and usually have my entire year planned out - for stuff like this do you pre-plan in your notebook or do you have some kind of list at the front of your catch all planner?
My planner has the weeks and months and idk what to put and where to put things. Even has spaces to put "to do's" "reminders". Like all of this is confusing and i want to start doing things especially in quarantine 😔
About tip 7: I use a multi-colored pen...you know the ones with the red, green, blue and black in one barrel? There are versions that have rainbow colors, and purples(!). I keep the multi-pen with my planner and that works very well for me. If I don't keep it with my planner, other denizens of my house will tactically acquire my PENS!
I want to get my life organized so badly. Am watching several of your videos back to back. Am getting all the tips that I need. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much as I am a functional planner no time for decoration lol
I Oo

So many practical tips, I love the writing THEN decorating tip. Also love those little Wonton in a Million icon stickers, they're so cute and tiny!
Yes...I definitely like using icons to save space. I am working on my handwriting so I would appreciate that video.

Very good information. I’m left handed and write so big. I thought I was crazy because I now have a planner for both my bank accounts. I had them both in one and it just didn’t work for me. This for all the tips.

I do events and festivals for my business and usually have my entire year planned out - for stuff like this do you pre-plan in your notebook or do you have some kind of list at the front of your catch all planner?
