    I kept 2 giant clams in my saltwater aquarium.
    They were my favorite.

    would it be possible to do this in a colder area? or in smaller tanks on a small scale? i would love to try this but we are land locked

    As far as doing this in a colder area, it is not possible unless it's done in a large room that protects them from the elements. Giant clams are from the tropical Pacific ocean. Water must be maintained between 78 and 80 degrees F. They need sunlight and/or metal halide lighting or LED lighting. Calcium and other trace elements must be kept at ocean parameters. If I had the money I would start out with 3 raceway tanks: 1 for spawning, 1 for baby settlement and 1 for grow out.

    It's legal to maintain them in aquariums. I have a gorgeous blue maxima in my 120 gallon reef system. It's possibly 6 months old. I have always wanted to breed them in captivity, but it is very difficult to do so in an aquarium. One needs very large raceway holding tanks to achieve success. Perhaps one of our local fish stores can do this....
