Killing Kai Leng in the Cerberus base; renegade interrupt. Revenge for Thane. This is the only renegade interrupt I executed throughout the entire game. Worth it.
Preach it, brother-- amen. THIS was the high-water mark of Mass Effect 3 for me; no one fucks with Commander Shepard's crew and gets away with it...*NO ONE*.
Kai leng was the best villian I have ever experienced. Never have I felt the hatred more than I did for this wanker. Man, the reapers, illusive man, udina, idc about them. This is just between Sheppard and the target of my unrivalled fury.
I am a paragon through and through, and I couldn't click that renegade interrupt fast enough. If you ask me, breaking his sword wasn't enough. I wanted to lop his head off.
I saw a meme that says: "No matter how paragon your play through, you will hit that renegade interrupt with the fury of an angry god!" Which I do. Every. Single. Time .:)
I played the trilogy for my first time this year and I went with paragon, this is one of the few times I hit a renegade prompt and I didn’t regret it. It was so badass.
no shit lol ! best interrupt ever , and shepard eyes who seem to say " go for it and give me the chance" just before the interrupt was just a awesome play by bioware :)
+royal22erick I dont know what's better between the two though, making kai leng piss his pants when shepard just breaks his sword or making him feel that he is about to complete his mission then ofc fails at the last moment of his fcking miserable cowardly life when shepard just dodges the sword like he just moved his head a little
+Saturn (Paragon Shepard, evading sword): Leng, you're not supposed to use the melee weapon that way! (Gutting the Leng out): This is how you're supposed to do it! F-minus in the melee, mister Leng! Oh, you're already dead! What a shame...
I saw a meme about this scene that said no matter how Paragon your Shepard is, or platform you play Mass Effect 3 on, you will hit the Renegade interrupt with the fury of an angry god. Damn right!
I like how EDI is an AI and Garrus is an experienced vigilante and both should logically have heard the grunting, pained ninja limping around but they clearly also realised he wasn't a threat to Shepard.
Garrus : "Did you hear that ?" EDI : "Yes." Garrus : "Then, should we... ?" EDI : "No." Garrus : "Why ?" EDI : "Because they need that." Garrus : "You mean Shepard ?" EDI : "No. I mean the player." And boy were they right.
When I first pressed the renegade button, I remembered saying "This is for Thane, you son of Bitch!". My jaw hit the floor when Shepard said almost the exact same thing I said.
The only thing that could've made it better (which is difficult) would be hearing Thane's voice, saying Shepard's name, warning her/him, as the interrupt appears on the screen.
Something sorta similar happened with The Last of Us Part II. Right before I killed Jordan (baseball cap guy) I said “I got you, you motherfucker!” and I was shocked when Ellie immediately said “Got you, motherfucker!” 😂
This scene gets more satisfying if you play as FemShep and romanced Thane. Just as Thane exacted revenge on his wife's killers, you kill that bastard Kai Leng. It's a damn shame you couldn't make him suffer more before you stab him. He deserved more pain than that.
Saw a brilliant meme about this cut scene: no matter how paragon your play through, when the renegade interrupt appears, you'll hit it with the fury of an angry, vengeful god!
Look, you can be the most Paragon son of a gun on the planet. you can hug orphans, give your endorsements, and spread peace and love throughout the galaxy as much as you want. But, No matter what, when that Renegade Interrupt comes up, you will hit that shit with the fury of an angry fucking God.
EdSkywalker or that blade was of a very poor quality...c'mon its the 22nd century xD there's got to be some exotic metal stronger than steel and sharper than anything else, shepard broke that blade as if it was made from glass lol
EdSkywalker Actually, you're on to something. Back on ancient times, it was said that the sharpness of one's blade reflected his courage and bravery and it's weakness reflected his cowardice, very metaphorical indeed. :)
SRT480 I can't remember exactly where I heard it but I know it had something to do with samurai and guess what? That weapon of his his looks a lot like a ninjato. (pronounced as ninjatou [and it's shorter than a katana but longer than a wakizashi]) :3 I see a connection. XD
If it’s the default option then it takes away your choice and control. By making it a renegade interrupt it becomes a conscious decision, and thus considerably more satisfying
“You were never my equal. You weren’t even worth the time it would’ve taken to finish you off. Go to hell and think hard on that; all this death, all this destruction, and you barely even put a dent in my armor.”
I mean, at the point of Mass Effect 3 Shepard is a very advanced cyborg with superhuman strength, durability and abilities(biotics or inhuman reaction times, depending on the class, well except tech related ones, but they are impressive in their own regard). I usually do renegade when its an interrupt to kill someone. Kai Leng Udina That doctor chick from Arrival The illusive man. I basically played a nice guy with a lot of pent up rage.
I play a kind hearted man with a very low amount of patience It’s hilarious because he’ll calmly tell mordin they’ve making his lab but will shut him up and tell him to take a breath it’s fun
Chaotic Good Shep. Play him mostly paragon with hitting VERY specific renegade options. Such as, the gunship at the start of Garrus' recruitment in ME2, the Gas Tank in Mordin's Loyalty mission, Kai Leng's death, punching the Admiral that started firing at the Geth Dreadnaught while you're still inside. Get the job done, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
Yep, i shot that crazy doctor, stabbed the bit** kai leng, shot tim for anderson, and let kaiden kill udina cause he needs to learn a thing or two for trusting udina in the first place
Elisabeth Hawke I hated Kai leng the most of All the characters in the game. this was the most satisfying moment out of the entire game and I still wish he would come back to Life, Just so I can murder his ass again.
I honestly yelled that just before my Shep yelled it. I romanced Thane and I'm normally a Paragon...I felt so good after that. I hated that ass so much.
I just played that part. When the cut scene started I already planned to use a renegade action should Kai Leng still be alive. In memory of Thane. "That was for Thane, you son of a b***h!" Heck yes it was!! Felt so good! (I cried as Thane was dying ;~;) Btw, did anyone notice that the renegade option was in the paragon spot? Like the game wanted us to choose it.
It feels so good, no matter how many times you play Mass Effect 3. I like to think that Shepherd's years of training/experience allows him/her to sense Kai Leng approaching. And also she hears Thane's voice, warning her. Like he's watching her back one last time. :-)
I have to say - watching and hearing the two Shepard's say the line ''That was for Thane, you son of a bitch!!" ... Jennifer Hale TOTALLY NAILS IT. Perfect execution, perfect tone and perfect delivery. Its almost as it JH knew exactly what was happening (could see what her character was doing) and knew exactly how to say the line. Best line in Mass Effect 3 for me.
I am a huge Gamer and I have battled many bosses. This kill however is the most satisfying ever. I read the books and knew how much of a fuckstick Kai Leng was before Mass Effect 3 came out. When Shepard kills him, ahhhh, the sword breaking his expression then driving that omni-blade into him. Satisfying.
I'm really looking forward to how this entire scene will look like in the Legendary Edition, especially when we see a snippet of this scene in the trailers. Killing Kai Leng in 4K? Yes please.
And the lesson here? Never piss Shepherd off. I always choose the Renegade option when it appears. It feels so good avenging Thane's death. Almost as satisfying as shooting Udina (which I always do every playthrough). I always add my own line: "That was for Thane, f@$k you and die!"
I remember the first time I saw this scene, I screamed so loud "YES!!!" because Kai Leng deserved that and after saying that was for thane, that was the epic part
I liked this interrupt SO MUCH (much like the one about Udina). First, you kill his dignity (by destroying his sword) and then you kill HIM. That was both, poetic and satisfying.
I swear that this is probably the most satisfying thing that I've watched. Also, i was hoping that maybe you could tell us the code for your Shepard character creation. It looks really awesome ^w^
In my mind, Kai Leng was a rip off Raiden ( From MGS4, and Revengance if you _really_ want to go there. ), what with all the cybernetic enhancements n' what not. He tried to come off as ' Superior ', but instead he came off as ' Cheesy '. What made his death that much more sweeter, is that his character is so stale and generic, he never deserved to kill _Thane_ of all characters. Thane was an trained gunman and assassin, who could put down people faster than KL, and he did it without enhancements. For Thane to be killed by this ' Cerberus Barbie ' really makes my blood boil, at least Thane had character and a cohesive backstory. I truely think that KL wasn't in ME3, the story would not be affected by it. Besides, when it comes down to it, Shepard isn't a stranger to cybernetic enhancements. By this point he's faced literally everything a soldier can go through. One little punk with a few gizmos in him and a glorified butter knife was never going to kill him. Hell, Shepard fucking DIED for two years, and the moment he was resurrected he was already killing security robots like he just woke up from a night in bed with his love interest.
Who cares if the endings were less than satisfactory this scene alone is worth everything it is the greatest renegade interrupt of all time! I do this everytime and i always play pure paragon.
It's more there as a sign of whether you are above or beneath humiliating your enemy, something to do with a samurai being only as good as his sword if I recall and breaking it would be a massive insult to any prideful swordsmans ego especially right before he is killed. Leng was going to die anyway, this was just the extra topping on showing him just how little chance he had against Shepard. I wouldn't be surprised if Shepards crew also knew what he was attempting, furthering just how little of a threat Leng actually was.
I like it with the renegade option)) So epic! And that Shepard remembers Thane (they talked about Mordin, Legion and Miranda, but everybody jast forgot poor Thane) is so cool!
I've played mostly paragon throughout the series. ME3 I promised my self I would still be paragon but a little more aggressive due to the dire circumstances and this renegade interupt right here made it so worth it
Worst villain in the entire series (including andromeda) this guy just kinda shows up kinda tries to make himself seem relevant with some obscure connection to Andersen then dies. Seriously in this world of asari biotics and krogan battle masters why did bioware think a dude with a sword would be an intimidating rival?
Even in a completely paragon playthrough, there are two renegade options in this game I always choose. One is yelling at the Quarian admiral for shooting the ship I was in. The other is killing this loser.
I didn't even have time to blink I pressed the renegade option so fast. Now I don't think I could ever do a playthrough without doing it. Easily one of the most badass things I've had the pleasure of executing in a game.
“That was for Thane you son of a bitch.” Gave me actual chills hearing that for the first time, still does. Justice for the friend he killed, favorite Shepard moment and Jennifer delivers that line so perfectly
Honestly don't know if I will receive rage for this or not... BUT! I have to say BioWare did a great job with Kai Leng as a villain. I mean.. He was so hate-able. Arrogant too. And when this scene came.. I never hit the renegade button faster the ever and I felt a great joy of relief wash over me that this mofo. Was finally taught a lesson. ESPECIALLY after what he did to Thane. :l
The lights you see aren't actually the blade. The tool itself constructs a super-heated silicon blade, then shines big bright orange warning lights to warn you where the edge of the blade is, because the blade proper is hard to see. The tech-armor that you see is similar - it's actually just a warp field stuck between two shield barriers that explodes when breached. The orange light pattern is to warn allies not to stand close to you, because you're liable to explode when shot.
I usually preferred the paragon option where I got to make her look like a fool that had no idea what she was talking about. Since I had a character that had talked to her throughout the games, I went for the paragon option for the third encounter as well. It got me a war assets boost, as small as it was.
First time I played this I hit that renegade option and when Shepard stabbed Kai I shouted "That was for Thane you son of a bitch!" literal a second later Shepard said it. Never more have Shepard and I been on the same page.
This scene is even cooler if you play as a biotic. You still stab him with the omniblade, but it means that Shepard always had it on him/her and wanted to shank Leng as a form of karmic death. Awesomeness.
You know what? Next time I ever play Mass Effect 3, I'm gonna do the Renegade Interrupt. Yeah I didn't do it any other time. But now I don't care. It must be done.
Hands down one of the best moments in the Mass Effect series. Ran like a bitch. Fought like a bitch. Died like a bitch.
I wanted him to fucking bleed to death. In pain.

It is, actually, the only difference is that rather than breaking his sword, you dodge and then stab him with an omniblade.

Nice job making all those noices tottaly not noticeable your there
When this happened I thought i missed the renegade interupt until I realised my finger was still on it.
That blade being smashed is the sweetest sound effect in the entire trilogy.
In my playthroughs, Shepard would say, "That was for Miranda, you Son of a B*tch." One of the most satisfying cutscenes in all of gaming history...
I never realized that so many of my fellow Paragons take so few Renegade interrupts and dialogue options.
The only reason he didn’t get killed by the mostly dead Drell was because of his bionic running-away-like-a-little-bitch legs
Even in a completely paragon playthrough, there are two renegade options in this game I always choose. One is yelling at the Quarian admiral for shooting the ship I was in. The other is killing this loser.
For me, it's shooting elnora and udina and headbutting that gatatog uvenk loser for dissing grunt
I was animating an Omni-blade in 3ds Max, but that's not the only reason I watched the end over. and over. and over again.
Doing this interrupt as a paragon player is the same as a renegade player doing a paragon interrupt on gavin in ME2 Overlord DLC
And hugging tali
I usually preferred the paragon option where I got to make her look like a fool that had no idea what she was talking about.
Since I had a character that had talked to her throughout the games, I went for the paragon option for the third encounter as well. It got me a war assets boost, as small as it was.
The only Renegade interrupt I've ever used in the whole trilogy. Completely worth it
First time I played this I hit that renegade option and when Shepard stabbed Kai I shouted "That was for Thane you son of a bitch!" literal a second later Shepard said it. Never more have Shepard and I been on the same page.
I did the same! I romanced Thane and had so much anger towards him and it felt sooo good getting revenge on that slippery idiot
This kind of characters who are trying so hard to look badass, although they've done nothing badass
“That was for thane you son of a bitch!... yeah thanks for watching my back on that one guys!”
Kai Leng - ( Comes quietly.)
Shepard: -Sense power level- , *breaks the sword*
Kai Leng - Oh crap not again............ *Dies*
Favorite moment in the game.
This scene is even cooler if you play as a biotic. You still stab him with the omniblade, but it means that Shepard always had it on him/her and wanted to shank Leng as a form of karmic death. Awesomeness.
The only time a pure paragon player who’s gone through the entire trilogy will do renegade.
Wow FemShep delivered this line so much better than the male counterpart.
Ngl man I like maleshep more. But her delivery was so damn good.
I jumped out of my seat when this happened. OOOOH YEAAAH!
Was I the only one who yelled "HELL YES!" once Shepard said: "That was for Thane you son of a bitch!"?
I've never pressed the renegade-button so fast in my entire mass effect life
I don't think he died imideatly. He looked like he was stabbed in the groin of all places.
I think more in the lung or kidney's. Either way slow and painful death.
+SnowHawk7 He was stabbed in the stomach
What he deserved, a quick death would be merciful, he doesn't deserve it
"I'm commander Shepard, and this is my favorite interrupt of the whole fuckin series."
Everyone became the Fastest Renegade in the West when it came to this scene.
Why does nobody hear this guy gasping and panting and drowning in his own blood?
THAT was for Thane, you son of a bitch.
"no plot armor this time you son of a bitch!"
No matter how Paragon you are, you are always doing that! xD
That is not a Renegade interrupt. that is BADASS INTERRUPT!
this was one of very few renegade option i chose in the mass effect trilogy and it felt good afterwards
You know what? Next time I ever play Mass Effect 3, I'm gonna do the Renegade Interrupt. Yeah I didn't do it any other time. But now I don't care. It must be done.
Is it weird to say that I could watch Shepard stabbing Kai Leng over and over and over again?
+22kingdomheartsfan
No not at all, it was the most satisfying counter.
The only renegade interrupt my full-paragon Shepard could not resist doing! Was totally worth it.
Isn't there one where she says "That was for MY Thane"!? I can't find it
